Anwar Ibrahim at University of Malaya

Anwar at UM

Anwar Ibrahim spoke with passion to students at the University of Malaya last night (October 27, 2014). He asked his audience, why is the government in power is so scared of a simple human being like him that they won’t allow him to speak in the campus of his alma mater. Where is academic freedom, where is academic excellence and where is our dignity as a people? He spoke of racism and disunity, corruption and abuse of power. Listen to him.–Din Merican

  1. Yes, this man is very dangerous, poisoning all the young impressionable minds with such radical ideas. The faster he is locked up, the better.

  2. Why would the government of Malaysia be afraid of one man Wayne? Or rather the question is why would you be afraid of this one man?
Debate him with facts, counter all his allegations with facts and figures, Show the audience that for every allegations the government or rather BN have a strong valid point and all policies are thoroughly thought off. Nothing should be “sacred cow” to be OSAed. All agreements to build, construct or develop projects in the nation should be open. Why the need for OSA unless certain elements are not in the interest of the nation but in the interest of a few. Let the Malaysian public decide , they are mature enough to see what the truth is instead of speculating on rumors and half truths.

The Malaysian electorates after 50 years are literate and can read and understand what is good for them. There is no need to shelter the Malaysian public like we are some bunch of illiterate idiots which is what the BN government wants us to be.

  4. Anwar Ibrahim has miscalculated his options. Its not prudent to show and encourage students unlawful acts of break and entry, to justify `delivering his stand and attempt to rouse-rubble Varsity students’ for any reason.
This is not about the fuel – price hikes or matters relevant to poor Malaysians like the Baling Incidents.
He should remain focused on his defence in court. Political Corruption must be eradicated via the Polls not by mob actions.
Look at HongKong, it didn’t dislodge the China-backed Authorities. Lucky those students didn’t get `Tianenmen Square’ treatment because China mindful of the economic implications. But Communist China has over 1.3 billion population, what’s a few hundred thousands Students protestors?
Its certainly didn’t reflect well on the Organising Student’s Leadership too doing what they did! Though the cowardly UM Administrators were partly to blame for their imbecile actions it still illegal to destroy properties for Anwar Ibrahim’s sake. Why use Students in the first place?

  5. On one hand they say no one will turn out for him at the trial, on the other hand, they try every means to stop him from speaking. Polls showing that voters are still leaving UMNO/BN even if they are dissapointed with PR and slowly coming back to PR. The glaring inconsistency and hanging to their old ways despite the evidence the change they face is permanent and will only grow is nothing short of mind-boggling.

In the end, the greatest lie told by Najib is to UMNO/BN themselves – that there is enough of a future for them all under his design. As soon as the insatiable feudal appetite realize the pie is shrinking for them and the political narcotics they feed on too abusive, they will turn on him.

Anwar has his fault, may end up in jail again, but he is going down in Malaysian history to have pointed to the only viable future for this country..

  6. A true Islamic & Muslim government will rule a country with principal & fairness to all according to the teachings of Islam. Our government is doing the total opposite. How pathetic.

  7. Let us see how UMNO will react at the KL International Motor Show errr at their Annual General Meeting next month….

p.s. have you noticed the UMNO AGM is like the KL International Motor Show where you can actually see photographers and motor enthusiasts taking photographs of the delegates’ cars…

  8. Quote:- “Though the cowardly UM Administrators were partly to blame for their imbecile actions….”

I don’t blame them at all.

Can Anwar “protect” them? Anwar has difficulty protecting himself, and he was an Ex-DPM.

So how can you blame a kucing kurat UM administrator?

  9. @ Shakirin AlIkram

Comparing actions of a communist regime with that of a functioning democracy like Malaysia, hopelessly defective though it may be, is irrelevant and not worth replicating.

Rabble rousing varsity students? Please give them some credit. They have the brain to see the big picture – undemocratic curbs and the long term implications for intellectual thought and larger public interests in sustaining the check and balance system.

Mob actions of the students? Who was the cause for starting it all? What you call the partisan behaviour and conduct of the varsity administration and its pre-emptive action in locking out the campus – Mafia action?

Please get wiser and stiffen your spine.
