Council of Regency Appointed for Smooth Administration of Kedah Darul Aman

Report by Bernama (12-12-11)

Alor Setar–The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, today reminded the Council of Regency to carry out its duties with honesty and dedication upon the ruler becoming the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong from tomorrow (December 13, 2011).

“To my brothers and daughter, I say, please carry out your duties with honesty and dedication as a ruler and his subjects cannot be separated, and to treat the priorities and interests of the state and people as responsibilities that should be shouldered with fairness and justice.

“Although I will reign at the federal level, the interests and prosperity of the state and its people will always be close to my heart,” the Sultan said at the ceremony for the appointment of the Council of Regency at Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar.

The members of the council comprise the Sultan’s brothers, Datuk Seri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, Datuk Seri Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani Sultan Badlishah and the Sultan’s daughter, Datuk Seri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz.

Tunku Annuar was appointed as chairman of the Council of Regency, which will ensure that Kedah’s administration runs smoothly after Tuanku Abdul Halim’s departure for Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur .

The Sultan reminded members of the state government and public servants to carry out their duties and responsibilities with full discipline, dedication and honesty. He also reminded the leaders at all levels to uphold noble values and to place the interests of others above their own.

“Allah has made humans complete beings and leaders on earth for us to do good. But I am sad that there are people who deliberately ignore what has been ordained, treating society as puppets to be manipulated without considering the effects of their actions. We have seen the downfall of strong, powerful and proud leaders. Let’s not forget that what happens is fated and we will be safe if we hold fast to the path enjoined by the Almighty,” the Sultan said.

Tuanku Abdul Halim also called on his beloved people to maintain understanding and to continue living in peace and harmony.

The Sultan said peace did not exist out of the blue, but was the result of the toil and sacrifices of the leaders and people from all races and walks of life to make Kedah and the country what they are today.

“Do not be like the saying, ‘because of a drop of nila (blue colouring agent), a whole pot of milk is spoilt’. I believe there are no problems that cannot be solved with tolerance, compromise and goodwill, as well as strong faith in one’s religious teachings which prioritise peace and calmness among mankind. We should learn lessons from the happenings in other countries, as the peace and prosperity that we have built all this while can disappear in the blink of an eye if we allow the fire of hatred to consume us,” the Sultan said.

Tuanku Abdul Halim will be Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the second time after the first from 1970 to 1975, based on the five-year rotational constitutional monarchy system of the country involving the nine hereditary state rulers.

  1. Congratulations to Members of Council of Regency, Kedah Darul Aman. By creating this Council, DYMM Sultan of Kedah is leaving the administration of the state to a team of eminent members of the Royal Family. 2. Dear Din Merican,

I remember that DYMM Tuanku Halim broke down and cried publicly when Mahathir led UMNO members to demonstrate against the Monarchy.I thought there would be a “French Revolution” in Malaysia.Luckily common sense prevailed.

Rise and Fall, like the tide, is the fate of man. Look Cambodia’s Pol Pot, for example. Why? Because the day he thinks he is God, his descent into abyss of arrogance begins and his fall will follow. Humility keeps one anchored to reality. That is why we have to keep our foot on the ground.

I learn a few things in life, Robert and one of them is that we cannot please everybody, no matter how hard we try. So I have learned to deal with myself. People perceive me differently. Those who are against me can be brutal. Be of good cheer and thanks for your thoughts.–Din Merican

  3. Dirgahayu Tuanku.
Din, kalau benar bak dikata, benarkanlah kita berbeza pendapat.
Kita bukanya anti-Din. Cuma perbezaan pendapat.
Perlulah ada differences of opinion to make for a more interesting exchange of ideas.
Ini asyik orang yang sama memberi views yang sama.
