Hadi3Hadi Awang–The Loser

A prominent analyst of Malay politics today placed a large part of the blame on PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang for the party’s failure to retain the Kedah government in the last general election.

Hadi’s failure to address a rift within Kedah PAS was one of the chief causes of thesayuti omar party’s defeat in the state, said Mohd Sayuti Omar (right) in a forum to discuss his 46th book, “The Fall of the Kedah PAS Government.” The discussion was organised by Youth Discourse of Negeri Sembilan.

Sayuti, who maintains close ties with the PAS and UMNO leaderships, said Hadi’s credibility as party leader was questionable because he had not taken responsibility for PAS’ failure to hold on to two states – Kedah in 2013 and Terengganu in 2004. “Also, the Selangor Menteri Besar crisis dragged on for longer than it should have because of Hadi’s flip flops,” he added.

Sayuti said Hadi persisted in supporting the late Kedah Menteri Besar, Azizan Abdul Razak, despite the latter’s unpopularity with the grassroots and Kedah PAS’ Ulama Council. He alleged that the council, at a meeting in February 2012, urged Azizan to step down as Kedah MB and Kedah PAS Commissioner.

“The reason given was that Azizan was not referring to the party when making state government decisions and that those decisions did not satisfy the Islamic criteria as given by the ulamas,” Sayuti said.

Azizan was also accused of abuse of power and making decisions that served his personal interest,”he said. Hadi ignored the Ulama Council’s complaints against Azizan.Sayuti also said there was discontent among the grassroots when Azizan unilaterally decided on his choice of candidates for GE-13.

“Some of the candidates Azizan fielded were candidates who were not proposed by the respective divisions and this made the leaders and members angry,” he said.“It is believed that disgruntled PAS members sabotaged the candidates to vent their anger against Azizan,” he added.

  1. He could not deal with Kedah and Terengganu and was a problem over the Selangor Menteri Besar matter. Yett he has dreams of becoming Prime Minister. Something must be wrong with this character. He should see a shrink asap. –Din Merican

  2. People who know what was happening in Kedah back in 2008-2012 also blamed Hadi and Azizan for just shutting down the only abattoir there and this sudden actions took the local Chinese community by surprise and they then kept their distance from PAS….

The local electorate also questioned of loss of hundreds of millions in investment of the Kedah state government in a forest concession in Papua New Guinea… why invest in a forest concession in PNG in the first place without due diligence?

  3. Din.
Not only Hadi but the whole of Shura members Including Harun Din dont have the “brain” and they always assume God always with them.

Until today Hadi still use vulgar words against the two PAS assemblyman who support PKR in Selangor, whenever he make a speech in PAS gathering.

I hope Ahmad Sabu and all the progressive PAS leaders will challange Hadi and all his corrupt Ulama.

  4. Assalammualaikum, Leekh, don’t say like that la. You just surrendered before going to the battle. In Shaa Allah, in spite of the goons around, we shall persevere and achieve victory.

  5. Loss Kedah, Trengganu or even Selangor? So what, it’s God’s will, is it not?

What has it got to do with Hadi or the ulamas? If God wills it, Hadi will be become PM, not just of Malaysia, but Singapore as well. What is it that God cannot do?

All you people have lost Faith.

  6. The problem with religo-rule is that its not measured by material quantifiable rule. By definition, religo-rule is measured simply by FAITH – subjective completely. If it can’t be measured, how do account. Throw up all the numbers, wins/loses you want, it still comes down to unmeasureable “feeling” of faith and religion.

  7. Malaysia is known to be an independent and sovereign nation close to six decades. It has been governed by the same party, which has been “elected” in by the voters year in year out. The current ruling BN coalition party is just hanging on to what ever vestiges of power they have but lack ideas on how to manage and develop the nation whose voters expect more responsibility and accountability from the government. BN perhaps is suffering from party “burnt out”, bereft of credible leaders. Dishing out BRIM, money out of taxpayers, just when election is around the corner is one clear example how desperate BN is to hang on to power.
Meanwhile, PR the wannabe, government in waiting, has yet to prove itself that it can really wear the crown. As they say , the crown doesn’t fit till you wear it. But as long as the PR opposition party can’t put together some semblance of a shadow cabinet to proof to the voters that they deserve a go at running the federal government, their dreams just remains that.

Malaysia has a long way to go as far as political maturity is concern. It is still a racially divided nation, one the most divisive among the ASEAN states. Whenever they want to attract support, each party will play the racial card.
However, neighbouring Indonesia, has manage to put its democratic process in some order in spite of its diverse groups and cultures. That is very healthy indeed and considering its potential power, she should lead the way to a full fledged democracy and governance.

  8. “Loss Kedah, Trengganu or even Selangor? So what, it’s God’s will, is it not?”
Thank you Wayne, funny but true. With God all things are possible.

  9. Why blame Hadi for what happened in Selangor? The man spoke his mind which is guided by his religious discipline. Why should he tow the line if his conscience disagrees? This is the case “lembu punye tahi sapi kena kutok”.

  10. This Hadi guy will screw Pakatan Rakyat totally if he still remained as Pas president. It’s better to remove this threat before he causes future troubles.

  11. Hadi and his supporters in the Syura Council can only see the perceived weaknesses in others. They are still high on PAS’ win in Selangor in 2013 believing that this is their own effort. Hadi and the Syura council shrewdly distance themselves from PAS’ defeat in Kedah deflecting the blame on others. PAS cannot progress with Hadi.
