Pehin Sri and NFC Scandal affecting Rakyat’s Faith in Najib’s Leadership

By Joseph Tawie (12-15-11)

The Government’s continued silence on the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal and Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud’s alleged wealth described as “grand acts of corruption” is making a “mockery” of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s transformation agenda and affecting the rakyat’s faith in his leadership abilities.

Demanding a response from the Najib administration, Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian also blamed Malaysia’s slide in the Transparency Index to the government’s continued “inaction” against corruption.

He called on the authorities to respond to the allegations against Taib and the NFC involving Welfare, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

“Unfortunately, Malaysia’s corruption score will continue to slide with all these allegations, making a mockery of Najib’s transformation agenda. As Transparency International has stated, Malaysia continues to slide due to its inaction on ‘grand corruption’,” said Bian.

Bian urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Attorney-General and the Inspector- General of Police to investigate the alleged corruptions.

He was commenting on a recent report that a group of international and Malaysian NGOS had written to the Malaysian authorities demanding the immediate arrest and criminal prosecution of Taib and his family members for the alleged illegal appropriation of public funds.

“The Malaysian authorities must respond immediately to the letter and the evidence furnished by these NGOs. The scandal is furnished (in detail) in a letter sent by a group of international and Malaysian NGOs which expose Taib’s alleged wealth.”

Disclosures debunk Taib’s denial

The news item on the scandal was widely published in news portals in the country, some of which have described it as the grandest scandal of them all.

“While Taib’s wealth is not a secret, the details provided by the NGOs are shocking. Taib and his family’s alleged interest in just 14 companies amount to RM4.6 billion.

“In total, Taib and his family are alleged to have interest in 332 Malaysian and 85 foreign companies.

“This (disclosure) debunks his recent official interview where he stated that his family’s wealth is accumulated from businesses abroad and due to their talents.

“In other cases, the most recent being the alleged RM250 million NFC scandal involving Shahrizat and her family, the authorities also did nothing.

“If they continue to remain silent… on all these corruption cases which have drawn wide interest internationally, not only will our country’s image continue to deteriorate, but so will the faith of the rakyat,” he said.

  1. Mr. Abu Kassim, we dare you to investigate Taib Mahmud and the A-G to persecute this corrupt character. He is defiant and we have laws that can be used against him. At the same time, MACC should also investigate Mahathir Mohamad, the de facto Prime Minister with Najib as his puppet or poodle.Don’t spare Shahrizat and her family from the full brunt of the law.

  2. didi

Tak. Cuma realiti. Kita orang Semenanjung memang punyai berbagai persepsi tentang Taib. Tapi orang Sarawak menyanjungnya. Percayalah Sarawak will return a big victory to BN. Saya baru balik dari negeri itu untuk berinteraksi dengan wanita PPB.

  3. Makcik,

Kalau berinteraksi dgn org parti component BN memanglah diorang kata Taib baik. Pergilah tanya orang2 miskin tepi jalan tu. Makcik ni hidup dalam kepompong lah. Keluar2 lah sikit.

  4. The lembus haven’t come home yet, Bean.
The lembus are enjoying the Bangsar condo so they are reluctant to come home to their barn. Need to pry them out of the condo.

  5. One day these looting will strike the national nerve and the anger unleashed will be like a bull in a china shop.

    Nothing goes on forever.

  6. DEC 16 — Umno has decided to save Shahrizat Jalil and paint her husband as the main actor behind the scandal of the year, the National Feedlot Corporation aka the government’s transformation programme (cows to condo).

Leading her defence is the man who helmed the Agriculture Ministry when the NFC project was promoted, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, best known as a defendant in the Stamford Hills controversy (please Google and read up). His main argument is that why single out the minister when she had no role to play in the NFC.

I suppose that sounds fair except that we still don’t why Muhyiddin and his ministry officials approved this project to greenhorns. If the opposition does some digging, it will realise that as early as two years ago government officials felt that NFC was doomed.

Also, as the disclosures by the opposition show, Shahrizat’s expenses were paid by funds from NFC and that her husband and children were paid silly money every month. They also set up some restaurants and the beef from the NFC made its way there.

Muhyiddin and friends would like us to believe that Shahrizat was completely in the dark about the financial benefits which accrued to her family after their involvement in the NFC.

I am told that there are vouchers which would make quite a few politicians blush. Maybe this is why Umno is worried about leaving Shahrizat out to hang.

Already, you have Cheras Umno leader Syed Ali Habshee clarifying his comments and saying that he did not single out Shahrizat but her husband.

It is clear that the government will appoint some auditors to do some study on the NFC, buy some time and then lump all the blame on everyone, except the minister.

All’s well that ends well. Only one small problem, more than RM90 million will be lost for forever.

  7. “His main argument is that why single out the minister when she had no role to play in the NFC.”

Because she is an elected public official and an UMNO Minister. An easy target. Make all the allegations and nothing will happen. She has recourse to the courts. She can file for defamation and recover damages suffered to her reputation – and the matter goes to court. Do you guys think she’d fall that? Did Najib and Rosmah file for anything??

  8. What Sharizat got is just the tip of the corruption iceberg, dig deeper and you shall be surprise, how much she,her hubby, children n her cronies got away with
