Pak Lah: I have no role in NFC

Former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi says he cannot be held responsible for alleged wrongdoings in respect of the on-going investigations into the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).

Abdullah, who was Prime Minister since 2004 till early 2009, said the project may have been given out during his time.

“However, so many things have happened between then and now. So I cannot be responsible for what happens after that.

“When they want something, they have an argument, they have a basis why approval could be given. So what happens after that has nothing to do with me,” he added.

Abdullah, who is affectionately referred to as Pak Lah, said this to reporters during his visit to the special media centre prepared for the UMNO annual general assembly.

Asked whether the NFC project was given out by tender or whether there was a bid for it, Abdullah said he had “no comment”.

On whether Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil should resign as a result of the NFC fiasco, he said he did not want to answer that as it would be speculative. “It is not fair (to her). Its not her business, it’s her husband’s,” he said.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said today initial investigations revealed no criminal breach of trust elements in police investigations, even though they have yet to interview Shahrizat.

‘Perceptions are dangerous’

Asked about the perception that Shahrizat was involved in the NFC scandal, Abdullah said such perception was a dangerous thing.

“Sometimes, we make a perception as if it is true. I know in politics perception can kill many people. We should not allow ourselves to be influenced by such things and that what we say is only perception, for perception can kill,” he said.

A lot of politicians all over the world, Abdullah said, have had a lot of problems because of perceptions they may have faced. “A lot of them are unnecessary,” he said.

Asked how he felt BN and UMNO would fare in the coming general election, Abdullah said they had to be prepared.

“If we have problems, we have to attend to the problems. If these have surfaced, we must face and resolve them. That is what UMNO has been doing as before and we have to be more efficient in handling these,” he said.

  1. Efficiency alone is not enough. Management must be honest, transparent and accountable for their actions. It is very much about fiduciary duty and trust. In the case of NFC, the management led by Dr. Salleh failed miserably.Money–taxpayers’ money–was been expended for personal use.

What is the rationale for buying a rm9.8 million apartment in Bangsar Baru to earn a phenomenal rental of rm70,000 per month (and who is the tenant of the place?) and some rm800,000 on a family holiday among other abuses? Anyway, who believes this Al-Ghazali wannabe who slept on the job? He should declare his assets since he is the man who publicly said in a poem that he did not seek wealth. That poem won him a prize from the Saudi Government. Badawi declared that he was looking Al-Ghazali, and was not interested to get rich. What greater b.s can there be than this crap from a self proclaimed Mr Clean! Cry Geranimo.

  2. My friend told me that in order for his parents to get projects, they would have to pay Pak Lah’s handlers to have an audience with him. I don’t doubt if he says that he doesn’t know anything about anything. What can you expect from somebody sleeping on his job?

  3. Sleepy head was sleeping or having amnesia. How can we trust a gomen which approved RM250 fund without the PM doing his homework. Didn’t they know it is going to a misister’s husband and children. When the partner who had the expertise pull out, didn’t they review the project? Who gave the approval for the fund release when the company is not even ready for such fund and have to spent it on condos, prime land and Mercedes? The reason given for investing in condos is that it provide good return. How about land and Mercedes and overseas trips and expenses?

  4. “However, so many things have happened between then and now. So I cannot be responsible for what happens after that.” Dollah

Ask any lawyer and he or she will tell you. It is all about a break in the chain of causation. The proximate cause cannot be Dollah’s negligence due to this break in the chain of causation. Blame the cow.

  5. Projects being hijacked and given to cronies are not new in Malaysia. It happen all the time from Mahathir time to Pak Lah and now to Najib. The EPU is notorious for hijacking projects as all project papers have to pass through them first.
Sometimes even LOI and LOA’s are not honored. So the feedlot project has been hijacked and given to Shahrizat family so they can Feed A Lot. Probe further and you will discover that it may have been KJ and the 4h floor boys that were involved. Wonder why KJ is desperately defending the project.

  6. If this happens in Japan, the Ministers will voluntarily apologise and step down.
The Korean President committed suicide when he was investigated for a smaller sum compared to Malaysia.

Many Malaysians are now eager waiting for the 13th General Election.
Rumours say UMNO/BN will cheat in this Mother of All Elections.

  7. Mongkut Bean
I’m at PWTC watching the Melayus being worked up t a frenzy with speeches from the UMNO leadership. At the GA the President of UMNO had to compare his party with the Opposition, pathetic, this is not an election campaign why give prominence to opposition parties. He’s lost his marbles.

Now left “semalam di Malaysia”. Leaving for home tomorrow. Gained a few pounds with all the good eats courtesy of UMNO with entertainment thrown in.

  8. Worst kind of denial. Is this the kind of leaders we voted for? He even has the cheek to defend her, birds of the same feathers. Totally no accountability. Turning wrong from right. There is no word in the dictionary to describe such human being. It is as good as showing us the middle finger and proclaimed “so what, if we corrupted”.

Are the voters taking it again coming GE13? Your bet is as good as mine.

  9. An important issue has been lost in all this debate. The fact remains that the ‘mess’ was first brought up by a Constitutional Office holder in the Malaysian Democratic System. THose concerned have to reply point by point the issues raised by that High Office. That is is the rule of law in this country. Politics does not come into play at all.

  10. Sheesh….childish ! This denial Syndrome is nothing but the art of Defending One Another….they have to. since everyone of them has got to play this hide & seek…..

If one, or someone exposes IT – whatever the Sh-IT – then everyone one of them will be exposed : so this sleepy head can make the public all go round in circles…that;s the idea.

  11. beyond redemption ! the nation coffer is at the brink of bankrupcy.Siti norhaliza will say – Don’t cry for me malaysia.

  12. Now left “semalam di Malaysia”. Leaving for home tomorrow. Gained a few pounds with all the good eats courtesy of UMNO with entertainment thrown in.

Winter this year is likely to be short periods of intense cold and unusually warm weather followed by floods. My Peurto Rican connectin is now in Paris drinking herself silly.
