11-11-11 almost over But no G-13 Announcement

by Hafiz Yatim@http://www.malaysiakini.com

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has laughed off speculation that he will announce the dissolution of the Parliament today, as 11 is his auspicious number.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a BN supreme council meeting this evening, Najib said the day has almost gone, and Parliament had not been dissolved.

“As you can see, Parliament is not dissolved yet and we are discussing today about strengthening the Barisan Nasional coalition,” he said, laughing.

The number 11 has a big role in Najib’s life as he is the Orang Kaya 11 Pahang, a position he took on after the death of his father, second Prime Minister (Tun) Abdul Razak Hussein.

Speculation has been rife that Najib would call for Parliament to be dissolved today as the date is November 11, 2011, and 11 is his favourite number.

Najib, who is also UMNO President said there was also no discussion at today’s meeting on the allocation of seats among component parties – which had also been highly speculated.

He also denied that there was any discussion today among the BN component party leaders on the possibility of deciding an election date. Speculation remains that the 13th general election will be called sometime in the earlier part of next year.

‘MCA’s view not BN’s position’

Najib was also asked about the BN’s position on the view of MCA, presented to the parliamentary select committee on electoral reform this morning that the party does not support the proposal that Malaysians living abroad be allowed to vote.

“MCA may have a differing view, as its view is in terms of the difficulty of logistics. However, this does not mean that it is the view of BN. BN is not opposed to it, but wants to highlight the problems,” he said.

Asked to comment on a book, Kesilapan-Kesilapan Najib, that calls on him to resign before the next general election is called, the prime minister said he did not want to comment on it.

“There are a lot of books (tak usahlah)… what for you give prominence to this book?” he said. “We do not have the time and day for books like this.”

The author, former Wangsa Maju UMNO leader Shahbudin Husin, lists Najib’s “mistakes” in the book and calls on him to resign from UMNO and as Prime Minister before the next general election.

The Prime Minister also said he does not know of any Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission investigation against national oil corporation Petronas.

  1. It’s better for both BN and PR that GE is delayed. Gives both parties time to prepare. GE will sap a lot of resources especially for PR. BN have a huge war chest and if GE done now they have the upper hand in terms of funds and resources.

A delay in the GE will also assist PR to better prepare as with the AG report more BN shit will be exposed and these are good campaigning materials. It also allows PR especially PKR to really screen its candidates and avoid the likes of Zul Nordin and Gobala.
    _________
More dirt will be exposed by both sides…more uncertainty and with the economy slowing down, social problems could emerge; Perkasa and other extreme elements and civil society activity (e.g. BERSIH3.0) will be adding to the temperature of the nation. I thought getting over with G13 would be a good thing.–Din Merican

  2. Economy slowing down is a given and may cost BN heavy price
social problems are present already and reflect weakness of BN
Perkasa and other extreme elements will be adding to temperature – something the government will have to deal in the a fair but firm manner
Why rush for GE when both sides not ready?
Even with GE will there be immediate change to the economy? Don’t think so. If BN wins it’s the same shit. If PR wins, they will be in hog heaven and and there will be major squabble for posts and positions amongst the 3 parties. Issues like Hudud will go mainstream and may cause PR to break up. How would PR divvy up the spoils? Have PR form an election manifesto and who will make up the Cabinet? How big will the Cabinet be? How will PR handle racial issues?

  3. “Even with GE will there be immediate change to the economy?”

Well, if UMNO is kicked out – we can expect the financial/fiduciary irresponsibility, corruption, nepotism, cronyism, open plundering and whore mongering to abate somewhat. Otherwise, we’d exsanguinate sooner. Our external trade numbers remain strong this quarter, while the domestic side is wracked with contaminated goods from the Mydin KR1M hand-job.

External factors are beyond the control of even the self=proclaimed god of UMNO (i.e. Octo) and the cynical manipulation and waiting for tickle (and trickle) down effects, will not work well. The only outcome of the delay is an exhaustion of maintaining the ‘election hysteria’. I doubt PR is blinking, but it seems that some commentators here already are.

The shadow cabinet of PR is probably in place, if my sources are to be trusted. Can’t show their hand lest it ends up like the FUBAR 916. As for Hudud, we’ll have to wait and see – but yes, that is their biggest bugbear. Frank, have a go at this will ya?

  4. How to Instill Purpose

A great many organizations invest a significant amount of money in trying to improve themselves. This commitment to getting better is laudable, but many times organizations overlook something within their organization that, when tapped, can sharpen focus, tighten alignment, hone execution, and — in the process — deliver better results. It’s called purpose.

While a veritable tsunami of resources — many of them first-rate — exist to help individuals discover purpose, a mere trickle of resources are available to help organizations discover theirs. This dichotomy led me to research ways to help organizations discover their purpose, and upon discovering it find ways to put it to good use. The result is Lead With Purpose, Giving Your Organization a Reason to Believe in Itself.

Purpose, as savvy leaders know, is the foundation for creating vision, executing the mission, and abiding by the values of an organization. Culture emerges from purposeful organizations, because purpose is what shapes individual’s beliefs and organizational norms. That foundation is essential, because it opens the door for organizations to do four important things, all of which are vital to success:

    1. Instill purpose in employees. Employees may be very good at compliance, but in today’s global competitive marketplace, going through the motions is not good enough. Organizations need employees who are engaged; that is, they come to work with a sense of purpose that comes from knowing that what they do matters to others. When employees are engaged in their work, they enjoy what they do and tend to be more productive.

    2. Provide clarity. We live in uncertain times. In fact, uncertainty is becoming the norm, at least in contrast to previous generations. Call it ambiguity. But, is it necessarily a bad thing? Fearing ambiguity leads to narrow thinking and reactionary behaviors. But, leaders to whom I spoke talked about ways to make ambiguity an ally. Embracing it can open the door to allowing employees to see possibilities that they wouldn’t have otherwise seen. Purpose then drives clarity because it “connects the dots” for employees. They know what is expected of them and why.

    3. Stimulate innovation. Knowing what an organization stands for can open the door to purposeful. I say “purposeful” because it enables employees to think of new ways of doing things for a reason — that is, to meet the mission of the organization. That depends upon purpose.

    4. Groom the next generation of leaders. Organizations that survive more than a generation are typically those that have developed a leadership cadre who inherited the mission, but have been shaped by core values. Purpose leads to intentional development. Leaders whom I interviewed were very explicit about their commitment to employee development. So much so that they invested their own time in working with younger employees who would someday — sooner than later — run the company.

As important as these four factors are, they need to be developed and nurtured by leaders. That can only occur when leaders at the top are sure of their own purpose. In my experience, such leaders know what they want and how to get it; but they may lack focus when it comes to driving purpose throughout the organization.

One very meaningful way that leaders can instill purpose is to communicate it through their behaviors. When employees see their leaders doing for others — especially when it comes to the heavy lifting — any excuse they may have for not participating is negated.

Such leaders are engaged in the process of leadership. They spend time mixing in at all levels of the organization. They are passionate about what they do and they convey that passion through their words, as well as through their actions.

Purpose is not something that should be allowed to sit on a shelf to be admired. Rather, it can be a catalyst for stimulating creativity, engagement and strategy in ways that drive results.

  5. Sorry no General Elections until the current term runs out. GE 13 can only be held in accordance with the constitution. The Pakatan states have much work to do and it would not be in their interest to go for early polls. So Pakatan states pull up you scoks and double -up to ensure that you get out of the books of the Auditor General an make a positive impression on the people who are going to vote for you.

WE are looking for leaders so please stand up and be counted.

  6. Yes Kathy, i am attracted to what John Baldoni says. Its downright practical, but on the upside highly motivational for Employees to make them feel their self-worth, and with that offer their dedication & committment to their Employers….
i suppose in the West, they provide good working environment & ambience towards the productive process .

    Excellent piece by him.

  7. PS. Kathy,

It is mutual & reciprocal rights, duties and obligations between the Employer & Employees that make for the success ( or failure?) of the Company/Enterprise they undertake : No rights without duties & obligations, conversely no duties & obligations without rights of both parties.
