BERSIH2.0 Rally Update

Restriction Order on 91 Individuals

The Police have placed a restriction order on 91 individuals, including organisers of the BERSIH 2.0, PERKASA, and UMNO Youth’s Patriot rallies.

NONEThe order is to stop any of the 91 individuals from being present at several spots in Kuala Lumpur on July 9.

“This means that anyone (on the list below) caught present at these areas will be arrested on sight,” said the city deputy police chief Amar Singh.

Top on the list are the BERSIH 2.0 steering committee members, including Ambiga Sreenevasan, Wong Chin Huat and Maria Chin Abdullah.

Also on the list are Pakatan Rakyat leaders, such as opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, PAS spiritual adviser Nik Aziz Nik Mat, his party’s deputy-president Mohamad Sabu, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and social activist Hishamuddin Rais.

Fourteen from PERKASA, including its president Ibrahim Ali and other top leaders such as Ab Rahman Ab Bakar and Syed Hassan Syed Ali.

UMNO Youth leaders also included in the list are UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, secretary Megat Firdouz Megat Junid and information chief Reezal Merican Naina Merican and eight others.

“This order is to avoid from any activity that can disrupt public order or bring danger to human lives and security.

“With this, they are barred and given warning not to be present or take any part in any assembly in those places on July 9 from 8am to 6pm,” said Amar during a press conference in the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters this evening.

A breach of the order would contravene Section 188 of the Penal Code for disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant, punishable by up to six months’ jail or up to RM2,000 fine or both.

The Police Chief added that the order was approved yesterday and that it has been sent out to the 91 individuals.

Mix-up in list

When asked how the police decided on the 91 individuals, Amar said that it was based on Police investigation over the past few weeks. However, it was evident that although 66 people were listed as BERSIH 2.0 supporters, some of them were clearly either UMNO members or anti-BERSIH.

NONEAmong those on the BERSIH 2.0 list are former deputy minister Khalid Yunus, Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Noordin, Gagasan Melayu Perak president Mohd Hilmi Ismail and national scout chief commissioner Kamaruddin Kachar.

Even PERKASA leaders were listed under BERSIH 2.0 supporters such as Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu commissioners Mohd Noor Nordin Abdullah, Sibri Ismail and Mohd Lukman Muda respectively.

The list has also includes at least one mistake. PERKASA vice-president Zubir Harun was listed twice – in the PERKASA and BERSIH 2.0 list.

Road closures from Saturday morning

According to the order signed by a Kuala Lumpur Magistrate, the 91 individuals are barred from being along Jalan Syed Putra, Jalan Istana, Jalan Bukit Petaling, Jalan Bellamy and the area surrounding Istana Negara. They are also barred from Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, Jalan Lembah Perdana, Jalan Cenderasari and the area around Masjid Negara.

The Police also listed Dataran Merdeka, Central Market, Masjid Jamek, Dataran DBKL, Sogo shopping mall, Maju Junction, Kampung Baru mosque, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Haji Taib, Jalan Raja Muda Musa, Jalan Raja Bot, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Gereja, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Loke, Jalan Sultan Mahmud as restricted areas to the 91.

Although there were already numerous roadblocks around the country since yesterday, Amar said that the city police will be closing roads and diverting traffic from Friday midnight. He also said that the police have not received any police permit applications to assemble at press time.

  1. This looks like Ops Checkmate to me. Without these 91 under restriction order, the rally will fizzle out, unless alternative arrangements have been made by BERSIH2.0. No Merdeka Stadium. Maybe outside Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam with Police Permit?–Din Merican

  2. Najib is the only PM in Malaysia who has not got his mandate from the people. He sneakily undermined Abdullah Badawi and was appointed by 200 people in UMNO to be the pretend PM. Admittedly, he could have call for a snap election within 3 months of his appointment to obtain a mandate but he did not have the courage to face the people. Instead he tried to soften his image through his political chicanery and religious cant of caring for the people with his 1Malaysia fakery.

The last time I wrote on this blog was to express my disappointment on Bersih’s mere acceptance of a stadium without testing the sincerity of Najib’s olive branch. I was right in my assessment that Bersih and the people of Malaysia was suckered by Najib big time and were the bigger losers in this game.

But now with even the stadium being denied by the regime to Bersih and declaring 91 people persona non gratae, I am appalled by Najib’s temerity to make the Agong look like a fool. Najib has a history of backpedalling on promises and official government policies. Yet Bersih was not being careful about Najib’s shenanigans and got tricked instead. At this point Najib has the last laugh but the final and ultimate laugh will be Bersih’s.

  3. I am not sure, vsp, whose last laugh it is going to be. But this is a major setback for electoral reform and a sad day in the history of Malaysian democracy. Najib can now leave for overseas.

What is BERSIH’s next move on the chessboard after being cornered by the Police? They have to make an appropriate announcement to enable their supporters to assemble.–Din Merican

  4. Bersih must rally in the state of Selangor, not in KL. Not many will be able to get through to KL, so let the city be a dead one in recognization of the effectiveness of Bersih.

This rally will be provoked, so the safety in numbers is critical. Bersih must understand the entire power of the government is against them. Already there is a comment in yahoo Malaysia that the police and FRU is getting set for serious riot control.

Bersih organizers must understand that they cannot beat this government. So move the rally to the Selangor site and march to the City borders. But do not enter. BN is ready to kill Malaysians to cling on to power.

By the way, do we still have a King? Or is he also under ISA or EO?

  5. Just a matter of time now that this push for transparency is part and parcel of Malaysian life. Bersih is just the start of the changing of the Malaysian mindset. Bersih may or may not achieve its present goals, but the nucleus of its being will continue to expand.

Bersih has dug some pretty impressive tracks in our muddy Malaysian politics. This trailblazing is just the start for others to walk the talk, to man up and carry on the fight.

  6. Guys, not to take the thunder out of the issue of electoral reforms (and we need reforms of the judicial system), assuming for one second reforms are passed, guess who controls the Electoral Commission? You can have the best legislation in the world when it comes to crime prevention etc, but if the investigative bodies armed with all the powers necessary don’t do their jobs and if adjudicative bodies fail to adjudicate issues in accordance with established principles of law, it is not gonna work! We have the Electoral or Election Offences Act but that has never stopped flagrant breaches of the law. Why should a reformed legislation work now?

Judges and prosecutors work not to ensure justice but to protect the incumbent ruling party from having elections they won as null and void. The real issue is over implementation. Not so much reforms.

The issue of electoral reforms appears oversold.

  7. Most of these guys live in KL. So, this illegal order by I Raja Polis & I Polis Raja is meaningless because it is tantamount to house arrest.

Watch and see. All 91 except KJ and I Robot Ali will turn out and become heroes i f they are arrested. That will be the end of Najib and Camenotalot.

Najib is playing it like a rank amateur. And make no mistake, it’s not the IGP, I Robot Ali, Muhy or anyone else. Right from the start it’s that yellow-striped Najib who in his innate cowardly fashion, has been calling the shots. Nuremburg awaits this traitor!

    dpp
we are all of 1 Race, the Human Race

  8. Shah Alam stadium also, no permit will be given. Najib & Co have honorable intentions. Now is time for MCA, MIC and the rest to abandon the sinking ship. After all , rats do so.
Wow, the Authorities so smart. Some names, like Najib, Muhiydeen, Rais Yatim, Hishamuddin etc are missing from the list. Tolong tambah list to include all the KL residents. Better still. Paranid stuff.

  9. Najib can just go into exile. Leaving the country when this is playing out? Irresponsibility at best. But then he shares the same first letter of his name with Nero. So he’ll probably just watch Malaysia burn while playing on his fiddle.

  10. Najib is cleverer than all of us think. On July 9th while idiot idealists are getting teargassed, watercannoned and frogmarched into polis confinement camps, he will be safe in the bosom of the Vatican – where the Pope will bless him, accept his conversion to Catholicism, and baptize him Norbert Razak, thereby indemnifying him from any possible prosecution. How can we put on trial and imprison somebody who no longer exists?

  11. P.S. Rosmah, of course, will accompany him to the Vatican where she has already applied for a position in a well-established nunnery as a guest relations officer.

  12. Since Bersih can’t meet in KL maybe Bersih can take over the PM’s office in Putrajaya. Since all the policemen will be in KL, you can easily walk into the PM’s office in Putrajaya. Even for a few fleeting minutes Najib won’t be able to say “over my dead body” since he’s not in Putrajaya, let the citizens enjoy the trappings of the palaces in Putrajaya.
Occupy the Palace of Justice and the PM’s office.
When the Police come just vacate the place.

Meeting the Pope to annul his marriage to Che Mah Chot kot? Why would he want to meet the Pope? UMNO doesn’t like the Christians so why visit the Head of the Catholic Church?

  13. The question is Who’s shutting down Kuala Lumpur?
    Bersih or the Police?

Bersih just want a street walk of KL.

Police blocks all traffic coming into the city.
Police cut off all telco and internet service
Police restrict people living in KL from coming into KL?
Where are these people supposed to go?
Police deploy thousands of police officers into KL
Government stop issuing bus permits to travel to KL
Government tells civil servants not to go to KL

So who is shutting down Kuala Lumpur?

  14. Without these 91 under restriction order, the rally will fizzle out, unless alternative arrangements have been made by BERSIH2.0.- Dato Din

You can bet the Bersih leaders will be there on their way to Stadium Merdeka.

The Pakatan leaders will be in the fore-front as martyrs of freedom, justice and democracy.

THe more this corrupt pariah UMNO Malays led by Najib and his violent cousin use brute force against Bersih 2.0, the more the voters will stay be sympathetic to the Opposition.

PAS will flood Kuala Lumpur with its supporters…

I am waiting to see the 50,000 SILAT IDIOTS coming out defending the borders of Kuala Lumpur.

Can someone will SMS JACKIE CHAN and JET LI TO take out these bunch of SILAT IDIOTS who know a couple of fighting steps and think they are Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat… just a bunch of mat rempits in black uniforms.

All it takes is a couple of tae kwondo kids with blue belt to knock these guys over the head and they will running yellow (pun intended) with their tails between their legs.

  15. With so much uncertainty going , at least one thing we can do is to call all our relatives and friends to wear yellow on this Saturday.

  16. JUST A BIT OF COMMON SENSE IS THE ANSWER

BERSIH 2.0 RALLY IS TO BE HELD AFTER ALL – IN THE STADIUM PLEASE
Would you believe that the findings of weapons, explosives and Bersih yellow colored T Shirts by the police in KL recently is the work of the Bersih organizers or its supporters? And do you not see how irrational and stupid the police were in pointing their ten fingers and declaring that this has to be the dirty work of Bersih? Wasn’t I right in saying that the Special Branch officers today are no longer of the caliber of those officers of the 60’s and the 70’s?

I am not a full fledged intelligence trained retired military officer, but having seen and worked with some Special Branch officers of the 60’s and 70’s, I think by preempting that the ‘loot’ to be the work of Bersih, even without making a thorough investigation first, is arguably stupid and dumbfounded. Special Branch officers of yesteryear’s and the many that I am personally acquainted with would not have come out with such a preposterous conclusion.

Anyone with a bit of common sense would not want to do what the supposedly ‘perpetrators’ did for the following reasons:
    1. Placing the ‘loot’ at a conspicuous place to be easily noticed by the public.
    2. The timing for placing the ‘loot’ is also not right. If someone seriously wants to create problems, they would do it at the very last minute and in the most secured place.
    3. Surely, the ‘perpetrators’ has to make sure that their act is not seen by anyone. They would have to surveil the area first before doing their job.

What is most amusing is the claim that several Bersih yellow shirts were also found among the ‘loot’. My guess is that these shirts must be the ones taken by the police in their raids or stripped off their owners during the arrests. My common sense tells me that it is merely a ploy to reinforce the police claim that it is indeed an act perpetrated by Bersih or its supporters. I don’t buy this kind of bluff my dear friend. If at all it was Bersih that had placed the ‘loot’ and had intended to use it during the rally, the Bersih supporters do not need the shirts anyway; they would have worn the Bersih shirts before joining the rally itself. Why rush to wear the Bersih shirt the very last minute?

Please, I have had enough of this nonsense. Now that PM Naijb has allowed the rally to be held at the stadium, let’s all join hands; Bersih, dissenting and pro-Bersih NGO’s, the opposition parties, Perkasa, UMNO Youth, police and all like-minded citizens, and together we gather in peace and harmony, to show our solidarity and demands for an election reform. Is this wrong?

And to Home Minister Hishamuddin, I am yet to hear you annul the order that the Bersih 2.0 rally an illegal assembly. The same goes to the IGP and his Deputy. And why don’t all of you join us in this peaceful rally? I am quite sure the people will offer you a bunch of roses.

  17. Can somebody tell me where are the 50,000 SILAT IDIOTS will be station to show off their kampung martial arts??

  18. Najib off to the Vatican on the eve of National crisis …. his road “to Damascus”… coming back to Malaysia as Joshua Najib… just what happened to the Apostle Paul, the vindictive Jew who persecuted Christians and made Christianity a gentile’s religion.

Joshua Najib will be the saviour of the supporters of Bersih 2.0 upon his return from Vatican… he may not see the vision of Nabi Isa as Paul did, but he will see in flash and blood, God’s representative on earth.

  19. Watch for the YELLOW halo around Joshua Najib’s head when he returned from the Vatican. Rosmah will be wearing a black and white hujjab, and will call herself Holy Mother Rosmary Rosmah.

Halleleuia, Praise to God, and Allahuakhbar
