DAP‘s Lim Guan Eng, Penang Chief Minister, dares Taib Mahmud: Resign Now
by Clara Chooi in Kuching
The DAP upped the ante on Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s promise to voters last night that Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s Sarawak reign will end soon, saying today the chief minister instead “must resign now” to prove his sincerity.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said it was unlikely that Taib — the state’s longest-serving chief minister — would quit as some other Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders have reneged on similar promises. “The proof (of the eating) is in the pudding. If you say he wants to resign, show me the letter.
“He must resign now,” Lim told reporters, referring to Taib, who had promised this campaign his last. The Penang chief minister was commenting on Najib’s attempt last night to convince voters here that Taib would stick to his retirement plan.
The BN chairman and prime minister told a crowd at a 1 Malaysia meet-the-leaders rally in the Kuching South City Hall indoor stadium that a fresh leadership lineup was on the cards for the Sarawak state government should BN be given the mandate again.
I doubt the PM has any clout over whether Taib goes or stays, Dato. I think the White Crocodilo is much more powerful and influential than we would think! Thus, rather than let Sarawakians be cheated by a lie by the PM< I think it is only right of Penang CM Lim to make the challenge and dare for Taib to go now!
You asked me to resign or step down, then you must make sure that I will not be prosecuted for all the loots I have taken, and I want so and so to be on the helm.
Taib cannot resign. He has to get re-elected and then be appointed Chief Minister so that he can resigned. Sarawak’s state assembly has been dissolved.
To show sincerity, Taib should withdraw and not contest.
But then, he can always pull the puppet from behind the screen …
My hope and prayer is that the people of Sarawak will take back the state from BN, to allow persons of integrity to govern the state for the good of all.
Chances are that unless there is a change of government in Sarawak, Najib is more likely to go before Taib.
Let’s see who will cry on April 16. It’s you all. No prize for guessing. The people and CM of Sarawak will celebrate the victory.
______
Matsab,
Yes, the people of Sarawak will decide on their CM. It may not be Taib. Najib will have some say on this matter if after his aggressive campaign, BN wins even by a narrow margin. Read my response to sentinel.–Din Merican
Sentinel,
Never underestimate Najib. He is powerful as PM and BN Chairman. If he wills it, Taib is gone in a jiffy as the British will say. He may have to do it if Taib continues to act against the interest of BN and put Sarawak at risk. After all, Sarawak is a barometer for him to decide when to hold the 13th GE.
Furthermore, Najib has the formidable BN political machine and money behind him and the media and security infrastructure to wage an aggressive campaign to win the voters.
My own gut feel is that the Prime Minister might be able to retain Sarawak, even if by whisker. After that, we can witness some spectacular deal making that would Perak to shame in terms of how the political bargaining game will be played. –Din Merican
It will be close Datuk, and yes there will be much cussing, haggling, tossing and turning. But i don’t think that the old methods are going to work to their advantage. In the bigger picture, even if they retain Sarawak, the inexorable march to Putrid Jaya has begun. The GE-13 may surprise all of us cynics yet.
It is indeed not much point winning by nefarious means in Sarawak and desperately clinging on to power, while the populace is already restless and agitated. While most of us don’t give truck with Arab style revolutions, the Reality is fast becoming one.
While i agree with your assessment of Najib’s power and reach, he is truly constipated and is defending on all fronts. He is a Survivalist and not a Renaissance man. He reacts, rather than pro-acts. His ideas are reasonable, but he certainly lacks the spine to carry them out. Weak? No, just overly malleable and lacks personal integrity.
So in essence, Umno-BN better watch where they are headed. They may win this battle, but lose the whole war and not in a peaceful manner either..
I’d rather have a country with Leaders of Wisdom, Integrity and Honesty, than Leaders of Mere Pragmatism and Insipid Character.
And i’m not even an “Egalitarian”, as most people understand the term.
Imagine the situation whereby Pakatan wins more votes than BN but ends up with less than 50% seats. Surely this will reflect the extent of gerrymandering by Taib and BN.
Can BN then really claim they have the support of its people or will the truth be out there for the world to witness like a sore rash?
Dato, I would agree with you as your analysis is more rooted in reality unlike that of an asswipe whose purported role as ‘jaga’ is a slur to the association and reputation of ‘jagas’ and whose 2-cents worth is just that – 2 cents.
I would, however, place a strong caveat to your statement that Najib is all powerful. In some ways he is and in some ways he is not. Because as leader of his political party and head of the executive arm of the incumbent government he has to make compromises and accommodations to remain on top of the fray.
It would be a serious mistake to rule out Taib as a force in Sarawak politics. His corruption and abuse of power is a matter of public record known to both the well informed and well heeled and the ill informed alike. So what is new?
I am having difficulty in accessing the Radio Free Sarawak web. Are others having the same problem? Smell a rat?
Are there parallels to be drawn between the copter crash involving DPM Muhyiddin and his entourage and that of Anwar when he was DPM?
“After that, we can witness some spectacular deal making that would Perak to shame in terms of how the political bargaining game will be played.” – Dato Din Merican
Do you mean in terms of magnitude such that Perak in retrospect is a mere speck or this impending one will be squeaky clean such that Perak’s indelible stain sticks like a sore thumb?
Not that any one of these prospects excites me!
Concerned citizen,
How about one way ticket out of Malaysia……hahaha
Din,
LGE & DAP knew it all along. That’s why DAP ceded the lordship to PKR. Anyway, to win Sarawak, it must be a landslide. Just like what LKY’s PAP did to Lim Yew Hock & his goons, many many years ago
CLF,
You sure Lajib has any ideas at all. Or is it his wife, Losmah……Hahaha. Perhaps, Losmah should start sing this song now to win back Sarawak. I am sure Losmah can this sing
These eyes cry every night for you
These arms long to hold you again The hurtin’s on me, yeah
And I will never be free, no, my baby, no no
You gave a promise to me, yeah
An’ you broke it, an’ you broke it, oh no
These eyes watched you bring my world to an end
This heart could not accept and pretend The hurtin’s on me, yeah
And I will never be free, no, no, no
You took the vow with me, yeah
An’ you spoke it, an’ you spoke it, babe
These eyes are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they’re never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they’re never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they’re never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes cry every night for you
These arms, these arms long to hold you, hold you again
These eyes are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Don’t ya know these eyes are cryin’ every night
I need you back in my heart
Guys & Gals,
Time for Moody Blue song…..Go Now plus Spitting Image version too…..Clear message to Taib
Hey Looes74,
Whatever it is you’re smoking, can I have some? We all need some.
It is only fair to give some space and airtime in Dato’s blog to what is being said by UMNO’s dying star for a fair and balance view.
This is race politics at its best — using racial sentiments and race issues to drum up support. Both sides are guilty.
You don’t get to see Republicans and Democrats campaigning for Chinese votes in Chinatowns througout the U.S. with dragons on the streets.
Hahaha…..If you can get some from me…..hahaha
How I wish, I could do this on corrupt leaders. Enjoy!
Can’t it Bean…..Ladies & Gentlemen
Okay! Okay! I am not that old……But enjoy!
Lets be wild man!

looes74, hope you will enjoy this nut.–Din Merican
Dato,
I refer to your response to Sentinel and I can’t help but feel you have too soft a spot for PM Najib. While I agree that the position he holds as PM and BN chairman is “powerful”, but, time and again he has shown us how powerless he is when it comes to instilling reforms in the civil service and governing institutions. He is indeed weak in political decisions. As you say Taib will be gone in a jiffy “if” he wills it. I would rather ask “Can” he?
It is more than 2 years now as PM, and, other than sophisticated abbreviations more reserved for dreamers and air castle builders, there is really nothing that someone occupying the most powerful position in the nation can show us he deserves to remain in that position.

FochAvenue, I admired his late Father and Najib knows me. I spoke to him at the Malaysian Open Golf at KLGCC about our country last year. He strikes me as someone who is serious about his work. But something is holding him back from taking drastic action on a number of issues. I think he must act now after being two years in office.–Din Merican
Boys & Gals,
Including me, the Young ones. Lets sing this song by Joan Boaz……We Shall Overcome…..Lets sing it till 16th of April
By the way, Joan was sweet when she was young…….Lets sing along
Well, Dato, his sudden departure from Sarawak and arriving in KLIA 1.30 am in the morning and then attending the Invest Malaysia* function tells me I am right in my hunch, he does not have enough clout to move Taib out!
* Invest Malaysia sounds very Invest Penang lah… hmmmm LOL!
