Tun Dr. Ismail’s Widow Dies

Toh Puan Norashikin Mohd Seth, the widow of a former deputy prime minister, Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, died of old age at noon Friday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said there were many characteristics and leadership qualities of the late Toh Puan Norashikin Mohd Seth, the widow of a former deputy prime minister, Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, which could be emulated.

He said Norashikin was admired during her life time for her huge contributions, especially in welfare and charity works. “When her husband, Tun Dr Ismail, was alive, she was his staunch supporter,” he told reporters after paying his last respect at her residence at Taman Tun Dr Ismail, here Friday night.

Najib, who was greeted on arrival by Norashikin’s eldest son, Mohamed Tawfik, a former Sungai Benut member of parliament, and a daughter, Zailah, was at the residence for about 15 minutes and then signed the condolence book before leaving.

Norashikin, 80, died of old age at the Damansara Specialist Hospital at noon Friday. She would be laid to rest at the Warriors’ Mausoleum after zohor prayers on Saturday.

  1. Exemplary wife and mother. Wife of the Deputy Prime Minister yet ever so humble, shuns the limelight and publicity. May Allah bless her soul.

  2. She was a staunch supporter of the late Tun Dr. Ismail and his work and a good mother. Al Fatihah.

  3. Current and only one former PM were at the internment ceremony at the Mausoleum. The other was sulking somewhere or has he been relegated to the fringes in the national mainstream media. Pity the standards set by this lady do not seem to have rubbed off on some incumbents.

    Mr. Bojangles,

The other you mentioned and his wife are in London and therefore, could not be present. Tawfik Tun Dr. Ismail said this to me when I visited him and members of his family in Jalan Pinggir Zaaba, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail last Saturday to pay my respects.–Din Merican

  4. Che Mah also can’t come because she’s attending her son’s graduation after a three-week mandarin course at beijing U.
Nice ya. Three weeks and you are already declared proficient.

  5. The passing of Toh Puan Norashikin Mohd Seth, or Neno as I was fortunate enough to be allowed to call her was received with the saddest of sentiment. I had known Neno for only a few years, but like many people I was deeply touched by her charm, her laughter, her dignity and her grace. Over the years I was lucky enough to call not only Neno my friend, but also her remarkable family, Tawfik, Zailah, Badariah, Tarmizi, Zamakhshari and Ariff. As they and their families gather united in the memory of their mother let us remember that the passing of Neno is not the death of personality for Toh Puan Norashikin Mohd Seth has not died in death, she will live forever in the hearts and memories of all who knew her.

  9. Can I somehow get in touch with the family of the late Tun Dr Ismail. My grandfather was his Personal Assistant in the 1960s when he was Home Minister. My father and aunties have spent their time in Tun Dr Ismail’s family home in Johor. My grandfather was initially PA to Dato Sulaiman, the brother of Dr Ismail before he left for Australia. I have Suleiman’s kids pic even until now. Really hope to get in touch with any of them to relive some memories. Thanks.
