As Anwar faces his latest attack on his reputation by a contrived Sodomy 2 trial in July, 2009, we should recall what Mahathir said he did in 1998 which resulted in his Deputy Prime Minister going to gaol in Sungei Buloh. Anwar was incarcerated there for 6 Years under solitary confinement. By God’s Grace, he was set free in 2004 and is now a political force, Harapan Baru Untuk Malaysia which is sending shivers down Najib’s spine (and Rosmah’s too).
Today, Najib and his political advisers are shamelessly repeating the Mahathirian approach of “finishing off” political rivals, imagined or otherwise. Sodomy 2 involving a confused young man by the name of Saiful Bukhari is a repeat of 1998, using the same script. And it won’t work with Malaysians this time around because we cannot be fooled for a second time. Let us listen to Mahathir’s confession. —Din Merican

Even if Dr.M now admits that he “fixed” Anwar all those years ago, he would only be admitting what practically the entire country has known all along. The real question is : what does he propose to do about it? On another blog several months ago I proposed that as a good Muslim he should seek out Anwar personally and ask for forgiveness and do the same to the learned judges whom he also wronged so terribly. Then, and only then, will his “confession” carry any weight.

Kalau kita fahamkan apa yang di-katakan, ia nya adalah the reverse dari apa yang di-ucapkan Tun Mahathir.
Contoh nya, ” Saya tangkap, saya taru masuk dalam tahanan. Semua orang nampakan ? Saya tangkap Dato’ Seri Anwar..taruk dalam tahanan..bukan ada kesalahan apapun yang dilakikan oleh Dato’ Seri Anuwar. Takdak langsung..”
Jawpan saya kepada Din Merican adalah mustahil Anwar di-tangkap tanpa melakukan apa-apa kesalahan.
Adalah zalim jika Anwar di-tangkap kerana tidak melakukan kesalahan apa-pun
din Merican – cuba cara lain dan lain kali berkali kali buatlah sesuatu yang baru, yang asli untuk cuba membersihkan anwar.
Cubaan yang bodoh akan berakhir dengan kegagalan yang bodoh juga.
hakikatnya cubaan membersihkan anwar walau dengan apa cara sekalipun, tipu muslihat, bersumpah, lari dari mahkamah, sabotaj diri sendiri tidak akan dan tidak mampu berjaya jika diri orang itu tetap tidak bersih sebenarnya.

Mahathir is too proud to say sorry to Anwar. So forget it. Let us focus on what Najib will do for his own interest vis-a-vis the Leader of the Opposition who is his opposite number in Parliament.
My purpose of posting this youtube clip is to remind all of us that 2009 will be a repeat of 1998, if we let it happen by doing nothing. The AG and IGP who were the fixers of the evidence for the 1998 trial where Augustine Paul (the “not relevant” judge) was the judge are still around, and it is in their own interest to see that Anwar’s political career and his road to Putrajaya come to an abrupt end.
The question is whether we are to react if Anwar returns to gaol. One thing I assure you is that PKR will not wither and die because Anwar put away as His Majesty’s guest for the second time. The public must ask their MPs to stop this or else they will be voted out come the next elections.
The government must withdraw this case before it is too late. Injustice has been done and Najib must be man enough to do the right thing. To show that he is genuine, Najib should also remove the AG and the IGP. But this is a tall order for the Prime Minister who engineered Sodomy 2 and the Perak political crisis—Din Merican

I’m fearful that these so called malay “muslim” look up to Mahadey more than they would the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. Well, these malays didn’t utter a sound when Mahadey insulted the prophet and Islam. Heck, these people still proudly proclaim Malaysia as an islamic nation. Didn’t they know Malaysia have the biggest gambling den in South Asia, unrivaled even by the Philippine, a majority Christian country. Mahathir has no scruples, he even lied about his race. In Singapore, 1953 he declared that his father was Indian. By 1975 he had become more Malay than the Malays with the Malay dilemma. He ruled by focusing on enriching his own family and his friends by ransacking our treasury. Mahathir turned UMNO into a corruption machine, used our cultural and religious differences to aid his concepts of enpowering the Malays. Until today, it is common knowledge that there are no real bumiputra contractors capable do doing real M&e Work. The Malaysian construction industry expertise has entrenched into the hands of chinese and indian engineers who are admired international – Malaysian project managers are valued more overseas than in our own country.
WHETHER ANWAR is guilty or not, is NOT of concern to us who are seeking change to our country. As far as we are concerned, his sexual preferences are none of our business. But it seems that again, there are many who have the audacity, and even in here, so be more holy than ANWAR. If you are more holy than Anwar, just tell us, how come it is wrong for ANWAR to love another man, but it is right for UMNO to hate all non muslims, hate all Malays, enrich themselves, steal, bomb their mistresses, prevent children from educational opportunities, steal money intended for rural Malays, put innocent Malaysian indians to jail, make sure indians dont have power or water, and I can go on and on.
Please be objective about UMNO. UMNO is a corruption enterprise for corrupt people. It is nothing else. UMNO is a money hungry machine that cares nothing for the betterment of all Malaysians. Supporters of UMNO are just such, and the one who evolved it into a rapacious snob is Mahathir.

Najib came to power just a few months ago.
AAB was in power when the case was reported.
AAB is obviously not involved as he seemed to be unheard of these days.
No way for Najib to conspire as AAB would have let the court thrown the case.
Najib as DPM has no absolute control of whatever government mechanism if he were to fabricate and conspire.
Din, you’re trying to say something that does not make sense.
Plus, till today, Anwar had not proved beyond doubt that the 98 saga was fabricated or a conspiracy. Anwar should have brought forward all his facts to the court to prove his point, and to really bring justice.
The public is increasingly began to believe this time, due to the different scenario in which the case of sodomy was reported.
If its a political assasination of Anwar by whomever inside UMNO, it would be much easier to fabricate a case for corruption, adultery (hire a prostitute! easy) etc.
Why go at length at sodomy which is uncommon in our society?

What appears to be a ‘confession’ is not. The first part sounds like he is confessing – inculpatory evidence as lawyers call it. But the second half is obviously exculpatory.
It is just vintage Mahathir.
Mr. Bean : “inculpatory” or “exculpatory” do not really matter. Many have always thought that, more than anything else, Anwar is a victim of Dr.M’s vindictiveness – as were the judges.
All this old stories are a just waste of time, do something for the future lah don’t go backwards to dig here and there…..

These are issues of governance , transparency and accountability which have yet to be resolved. So, it is not about digging the past but learning from the past so that we can be better for the future. What I don’t understand from comments like yours is that you guys cannot see the big picture and condone wrongdoings. For example a person called Sukma Dewi was trying to be helpful by suggesting that he/she would approach Rosmah so that my wife and Saifuddin Nasution’s wife can get some of her shopping items instead of expressing disgust at such behaviour; Rosmah is free to whatever she wants with her own money but spending government money or money of all those people seeking favours from the Government, that is despicable. mr din , i am of the mind that dr. mahathir had to put anwar ibrahim away to ensure nobody emerged in the near term to out do the ” great ” things he did during his 22 years. although anwar in my mind is still an enigma , i think dr. mahathir knew him better and dr mahathir also knew that there was only one man in his cabinet who could out-talk , out-wit , and out-do his so called ” great achievements “. and this man, namely , anwar ibrahim , would be accorded a more prominent place in the country’s history then dr. mahathir himself would be accorded.
but ironically , with all that said and done , history will only recognise dr mahathir as a pariah , for his corrupt ways and his obsession with his legacy which is all negated because of his lies and deceit , his imprisonment of anwar ibrahim on trumped up charges and above all his mismanagement of the judiciary just to ensure that anwar was imprisoned and he won his case against tengku razaliegh hamzah. good leaders never do these kind of things . only pariah’s do mr. din.

Mahathir targeted to remove his one and only rival well over a year or so ahead before the grounds were prepared and evidence manufactured for Anwar to be arrested and charged. Mahathir was the Home Minister then with the Special Branch under his purview and as PM also had Military Intelligence at his disposal. These are awesome state power tools to nail down a guilty guy as any Intelligence or Special Branch officer worth his salt would know. If someone is a real sodomite, try engaging a first class private investigation agency to investigate the case. They will come up with all the hard evidence – surveillance reports on rendezvous meetings indoor and outdoor, voice recordings and video tapes showing the actual act itself –all clandestinely obtained through covert operations. What did Mahathir produce at the end? – cause a doctored book vilifying Anwar and his character that was timed to be published and distributed to the delegates at the UMNO assembly and thereafter all over the country so as to psychologically prepare the people to expect what is to come, and a king size bed at the trial with dubious DNA sample implanted.
I really don’t understand how people can be so naïve to buy the story – line, hook and sinker. You really think Anwar would have the strength and courage to roar like a lion and fight like a tiger, as he does now, taking on his powerful enemies occupying the seat of power, if he is truly guilty of the crime he is alleged to have committed?
Many years back I used to work as a junior staff for a Malay boss, a pious and a fine gentleman. Every Hari Raya eve (or the day after, I quiet forgot) he would call me into his office and ask me to forgive him for any wrong he might have done to me during the preceding one year period and at the same time give me a $10 ang pow. He had passed away way back. To this day I remember him, his humanity and his conscious effort to walk a straight path as invoked by his faith. It is high time Mahathir asks Anwar for his forgiveness for the hurt and pain he has caused Anwar, his wife and children. This is the cruelest thing any family man can do to another family man.
