Anifah to Anwar: See you in court
By Adib Zalkapli

Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman today said he is ready to face Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in court over his statement that Anwar had offered him the deputy prime minister’s position if he crossed over to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) last year.

“Oh yes, I have no problem with that, as the Foreign Minister I have better things to do, Anwar is the least of my concern,” said Anifah when asked whether he is prepared to face legal action by Anwar after he refused to retract his remark.

Anifah, at a joint press conference with Hillary Clinton in the United States on Thursday , said Anwar had offered him the deputy prime minister post to lure him to defect to PR, but Anwar had yesterday denied the allegation and threatened to take legal action.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival from the United States, Anifah said that Anwar had called him once last year to make the offer. “I told him, ‘Don’t waste your time, I am not willing to leave UMNO and Barisan Nasional’,” said Anifah adding that the matter was an open secret.

When asked when the call was made he said he could not remember as he did not treat the call from Anwar as something important. Anifah said he only revealed what Anwar did in Washington because a reporter there had asked about the charges against the opposition leader.

“There was a reporter who asked a question about whether all the charges against Anwar were politically motivated so I told the reporter that I have utmost faith in our judicial system, there is no need to doubt, our judicial system is free and independent,” said Anifah citing the recent High Court declaration on the Perak crisis which favoured the PR.

He added that Anwar was being irresponsible by tarnishing the country’s image in the United States which is Malaysia’s largest trading partner. “I believe it is necessary to tell the Americans the truth,” said Anifah.

  1. Bro. Din,

We must say thank you to this idiots FM. He is helping Pakatan Rakyat screwing his own party and his own bosses. The people in Washington are better informed than his sleeping countrymen at Mt. Kinabalu. So we need not worry.

This must be “wow” factor that Najib mentioned before naming his cabinet.

Congratulations, Hanifah on your first trip to USA as FM. We hope you will visit China and Mongolia and repeat the same statement over there.

But make sure you come back in one piece. They do have C4 as souveniour for you Sir.

Once again Conratulations for your successful visit.

  2. “The people in Washington are better informed than his sleeping countrymen at Mt. Kinabalu.”

    Well said, mr. tean.

What was he thinking? Officiating a balai raya somewhere deep in Pinangah?

  3. So Anwar is going to court to ask him to prove that he made the offer? He cannot prove Anwar made the offer. Nor can Anwar prove that he didn’t?

So it is a case of “He said, she said”.

Why waste time? Why start another circus when the other one has not left town?

  4. What else can we expect from the Aman brothers. They have the sugar factories in their mouth. They can twist and lie day in and day out. Please take him to court and let him understand they cannot be forever act like they own the whole of Sabah Somehow someone must
stop this man. As said he may one day step over his boss Najis should he is not able to get what he wants

  5. “So I guess it’s OK for Anifah to share a JOKE with Clinton, since she asked about Anwar, and bring some laughter to the PC.”

Correction. It wasn’t the U.S. Secretary of State who asked the question.

  6. She was visibly relieved when the focus shifted to another issue. Otherwise if the same line of questioning had continued, it was obvious she would have acted to interdict and avoid the embarrassment caused to her guest i.e. our Foreign Minister.

And all that because her guest did not know where and when to stop running his mouth.

  7. Bean,

Look at his body language? I can see clearly, his is behaving like a standard one pupil just shitting in his pant and now have to face the teacher.

Come on Najib, please stop sending this clown to represent Malaysia. Diplomats from other countries must be wonder why we have such people as FM. I pity officers at Wisma Putra to have a new boss like this fella.

  8. As I said;… Well well, another look of knows all. Didn’t he realised there’s such thing as Youtube or what. There’s no need to show the world how fair or our system is.. i guess its more of personal attack than anything else. Maybe this site can shed some light.

Not sure how he has so many other more important things meant?
    Anyone?

  9. Yeah! Anifah suffered verbal diarrhoea and slurred in his 1st outing as FM alright but not to forget
before him we had another FM , a Minang clown and a legion of jokers that lost Batu Putih to the cunning descendants of gardeners from mainland China
, but as hilarious as clowns are yelled out ‘all is not lost – we got the rocks’
As the bigoted reasoning of handing over Temasek just decades earlier which turned out to be the most strategic in the whole of South East Asia wasn’t bad enough.

  10. Why not they (UMNO) try using Saiful’s game again?
    _________
Tourman53, the Saiful matter is a total fabrication, reflecting that UMNO is bankrupt of ways to deal with Anwar Ibrahim. However, they will try their luck in July to deny bail, get a conviction and send Anwar back to Sungei Buloh. We will wait and see what the reaction of the Malaysian public and the world will be. If it happens, UMNO and Barisan Nasional will lose the 13th General Elections. So their strategists and Najib himself should think carefully about how they treat our Opposition leader. The Mahathir approach will not work this time.

What is most disappointing is that there are medical doctors except from Dr. Othman of Pusparawi Hospital who are prepared to prostitute themselves to Najib and his UMNO gangsters. It is equally regrettable that our courts and our religious establishment (exceptfor Ramlong Porigi) have allowed themselves to be used for political purposes. Najib’s escapades remain such. In fact, the Prime Minister should be investigated and should be punished as just like any other citizen of our country if there is any evidence of wrongdoing against him.

No one is above the law. President Richard Nixon tried, but he paid a heavy price for his cover up of the Watergate scandal (nothing to do with sexual improprieties) and had to resign his office in disgrace.–Din Merican

  11. mr din merican , let us just thank GOD he did not accept the offer and opted to remain in UMNO and Barisan. otherwise, imagine how his ineptness in his conduct would have reflected on pakatan.
    ____________
Jeffery Gascon, no such offer was made to this Anifah fella. Anwar knows his quality and character. Anifah is as tainted as his brother Musa aka Musang Aman. Pakatan Rakyat is not without depth and talent. Welcome to this blog and I hope you will continue share views and ideas with all of us. Thanks. –Din Merican

  12. MR. DIN MERICAN , FIRST LET ME THANK YOU FOR SAYING ” NO SUCH OFFER ” WAS MADE TO THIS WORM CALLED ANIFAH. VERMIN LIKE THESE SHOULD BE LEFT WITH UMNO AND BARISAN BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE THEY BELONG FOR THAT IS WHERE VERMIN BELONG.

THAT SAID , MR DIN MERICAN ALLOW ME TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND FOR WELCOMING ME TO YOUR BLOG AND FOR ALSO ALLOWING ME THE SPACE TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS IN YOUR BLOG. I AM GRATEFUL MR DIN MERICAN.
    _________
Jeffery, it is people like you and others who make me feel good to be the host of this blog. Nothing satisfies me more than to know that young and concerned Malaysians are prepared to speak up, express an opinion, or even disagree (in a civilised way). I have always believed that we can make a difference and that collectively we can deliver another political tsunami and bring an end to a corrupt regime that has been running our country from more than half a century.—Din Merican

  13. I just got back from KK, having managed to reach Low’s Peak in Mt Kinabalu (yay for me!). Sabah, one of the richest states in Malaysia, has the poorest citizens with low incomes and very high cost of living. Yet, they have to put up with idiots like the Aman brothers who are enjoying the spoils of the country, like the other monkeys, at the heavy price to the citizens.

Yet again, I am totally aghast at the idiots they (the monkeys) put up as so-called ministers facing the world who seem to be wide awake when it comes to the real juicy stuff Malaysia is made of, like the murder of Altantuya and the link to Najib. They even know about the alleged and sordid details of the sex between the two!

  14. If you guys hate Anifah very much, tell me who is the most suitable to be the FM? What’s withall the name callings and stuff? *shrug shoulders*

  15. “Mr.Bean goes to Washington.” imwatchinu

There are two Washingtons over here. Which Washington? I’m only a few hours’ drive away from one of the two. The other I will have to take a flight which will cost me the same if I were to fly home.

If ever I find myself in DC it would be as the people’s representative and not government’s. My job would be to keep that toe stucked in his ass – unless it is of course Din Merican’s. That I cannot do because he is family.

  16. He used to live near Tokong Hindu in government quarters where his mother stayed when a matron of the town’s only hospital in Aloq Setaq. Like U.S. President Barack Obama, he was raised singlehandedly by his mother.

He used to frequent Wat Siam. That to me would be family.

  17. K2, your comment below is interresting,
“If you guys hate Anifah very much, tell me who is the most suitable to be the FM? What’s withall the name callings and stuff? *shrug shoulders*

    K2 – May 18, 2009 at 2:47 pm”

Thats the point you see,UMNO does not have ANY suitable candidate that they cn put up for all the positions because these positions and many others (deputies, and whatever else, that is reserved only for Cronies, “members” and also for paying off favours.
Anyway, Najib cannot afford to have independent, thinking, responsible and true Malaysians to be in his top heirarchy – how to control them if they stand up to his sheenanigan?
The entire UMNO/BN Cabinet, as well as their kitchen cabinet and the pantry cabinet (or whatever else names you want to refer to the cronies, the koochus, and the kaki bodeks are a bloody disgrace to the country.
    Can’t wait for GE13!

  18. Hi K2, we dont hate Anifah, he simply illustrates how good the BN is at in putting morons in public administration. Maybe this suits your idea of how Malaysia should portray itself abroad, and I don’t support the idea that Malaysians should bear both the expense and embarrassment. Maybe lets put in a non English speaking minister, he will make less of a fool of Malaysians. Anyway Washington and the rest is having good laughs at our expense. Thank you.

  19. My only disappointment at what happened during the press conference held at the U.S. Department of State, Washington DC is with this other reporter who had to ask a different question which took it in a different direction altogether. There should have been a follow up question. After all Malaysia’s own Foreign Minister opened up the flood gates. Nobody else did.

Having said that you could count on the host to stop the line of questioning as it concerned Malaysia’s domestic politics. But then she could have cut some slack and allowed the question and then stopped it. Now we’ll never know.

  21. Ok, not exactly hate but dislike perhaps? But, it’s your point of view on this and I can’t change that. I’m just asking you guys one question. Thanks for replying anyway.

  22. When will our leadership going to appoint “real” statesman as foreign ministers and allowing this chimpanzee on visits overseas.

Teaching Americans how to eat bananas is embarassing..

  23. Anwar must have enticed Sabahans with something to persuade them to jump ship prior 916. Anifah already rejected deputy minister from Pak Lah. I guess a DPM or full minister is the only offer Anwar can make.

Second DPM in PKR’s Sabah manifesto

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah, launched another manifesto here themed “A New Hope for Sabah and Malaysia” promising a second Deputy Prime Minister if it rules the land below the wind.

“As partners to the formation of Malaysia, the Borneo states deserve to have a Deputy Prime Minister for without the Borneo states, there would have been no Malaysia.

“Thus, under the PKR government there will be a second Deputy Prime Minister for East Malaysia,” the PKR said in its 14-point manifesto launched Wednesday by State PKR Vice President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan. State PKR head Ansari Abdullah was also present.

Other points in the manifesto included termination of any petroleum agreement with national oil company, Petronas, and replacing it with a petroleum sharing agreement apart from a review of the Petronas Act to give a fair revenue to Sabah.

PKR would also ensure that state immigration be placed under “state matter,” where the movement of people in and out of Sabah would come under the purview of the state government and “the director of immigration would be a Sabahan”.

The party said if it rules Sabah, Federal Territory Labuan will come under the jurisdiction of Sabah without changing the status of the island as an Offshore Financial Centre.

PKR also promised to introduce a comprehensive economic and development plan for Sabah called the Development Agenda for Sabah.

For the March 8 election, the opposition is putting up 55 candidates for the 59 states seats.

It promised to resolve the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah, restore relevant State rights, see to land reforms as well as set up a comprehensive economic and development plan for the State.

The manifesto also focussed on increasing the State’s per capita income from RM10,000 to RM15,000, promoting transparency in the government as well as ensuring more women participate in decision-making processes.

PKR also wants to replace the Federal Development Department in Sabah (JPPS), which it describes as a waste of public funds, with a State Development Department (JPN) to ensure development funds go straight to the State Government.

On land reforms, PKR promised to restore the role of the village chiefs (Ketua Kampung) and Ketua Anak Negeri in land applications besides setting up a Land Reform Committee to review existing land laws.

An agency known as the Sabah Native Land Development Authority (SNLDA) will also be established by a PKR government for native land and interest.

The party also vowed to democratise the appointments of Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) as well as village chiefs (Ketua Kampung) and ensure these JKKKs are actively involved in the development of the respective villages. As such all projects costing RM25,000 and below will be implemented directly by these JKKKs.

PKR Vice-President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the manifesto is a supplement to the national PKR manifesto entitled “A New Dawn for Malaysia”, which was launched recently by party adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I am confident the people would accept the manifesto as they have had enough of Barisan Nasional’s empty promises since it come to power”, he said after the launching at his residence at Bukit Padang, near here.

He claimed the BN’s just unveiled manifesto themed “Security, Peace and Prosperity” was just another of its sweet promises”.

“We must remember that when BN launched ‘Sabah Baru’ in the previous election, it promised to reduce poverty to zero, housing for all, etcÉ but today we bear witness that all their promises have not been fulfilled and for that the current government must be change,” he said.

Jeffrey went on to say that the real power in BN Sabah was Umno and that the 10 component parties have little say in the State Government.

He urged the people of Sabah, especially the young voters not to be misled by the BN’s promises and instead vote PKR for change.

“Sabahans have a history of making brave changes when needed and together we can do it again,” he said.
