Haris Ibrahim’s Despatch:Barisan Rakyat Team heads out to Kuala Terengganu

January 6, 2009

Pet, Haris, Marina, Bernard-Zorro, Big Gus, and others, I will be joining you all soon. Rashid Azad Khan, Shogun Shah, Din Ahmad and I are making plans to be on the campaign trail (from January 14-18). Fellow Malaysians, let us converge on the capital of this oil rich state, campaign and show our support for PAS and Pakatan Rakyat. Sock it to those UMNO-BN guys, and enjoy Kuala Terengganu.—Din Merican

Badawi and Najib endorse Pakatan Rakyat for Kuala Terengganu–For once, they are doing the right thing:

A convoy of 3 vehicles hit the Karak Highway round about 1.30pm this afternoon (January 5). I was in the lead vehicle with

By the time we got to Kemaman, everyone was so hungry and busy eating nasi dagang and drinking heavenly coffee at the famous Kedai Kopi Hai Peng that no-one thought to take any photos.

Next stop was at a PETRONAS station just before Rantau Abang, for some nicotine intake and to give RPK and the rest of the gang a chance to get into the campaign mood.

As we drove through Rantau Abang, could not help noticing the run down state of the houses. In an oil-producing state, mind you!

We got into Kuala Terengganu a little after 7pm. Honestly, does not look like a town that is about to host just about the most important democratic process before the UMNO elections in March. Other than the fact that everyone who’s anyone in both BN and Pakatan Rakyat are expected to be streaming in over the next couple of days. We’ve been trying to get feedback from the ground on issues of concern to the voters. This will be ongoing.

We’re off early tomorrow morning to the nomination centre. That’s all for now. Don’t forget to keep sending out those sms’s.

  2. Uncle Din,

I would like to make a small RM contribution to PAS. Is there a bank account which I can bank in some money?

Free Malaysia, please go to http://www.m2day.org for details. Thanks in advance for your contribution. It will go a long way to help PAS and Pakatan Rakyat to win in KT. Hope others who want change will join you to support our fund raising effort. Unlike the rich UMNO-BN with access to huge pools of money, we have to rely on the support of ordinary hardworking Malaysians.—Din Merican

  4. Just exactly what did you mean by this?:

“As we drove through Rantau Abang, could not help noticing the run down state of the houses. In an oil-producing state, mind you!”

Did you mean the houses should be new and gleaming because Terengganu has oil and should give money to all its poorer citizens to build new houses?

Or did you mean the administration of the state is so incompetent that even with oil money, it cannot ensure decent housing for its people?

Or did you mean those people are so inept that they cannot take advantage of their oil producing state’s wealth and improve themselves?

You city people are annoyingly naive and inappropriately sympathetic where none is due!

If you really want to know why they are that way, stay with them for a month or so. Don’t just drive by and cast judgments (however unsaid) willy-nilly, just to show that you feel something for them. They live worlds apart from you and do not need your fake sympathies….
