Najib Razak:  I chose to be a PM for Malaysia, not a Mahathir Puppet

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today took to Indonesian media to explain his fallout with former premier and mentor Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Speaking to MetroTV in an interview, Najib related that Mahathir was “obsessed about control” and was trying to call the shots even though he was no longer the prime minister.

“I only had two choices as Prime Minister. First, that I become a Prime Minister who refers to him and get his ‘advice’.I say advice but it’s probably instructions to do what he wants in terms of the administration of the country.

“Or, I become a prime minister who believes in my own leadership, judgement and the mandate given to me by the country and my party, and do what I think is best for the country.

Asked by the interviewer which choice did he make, Najib said it is the latter.

“I need to be a Prime Minister who is responsible to the rakyat (and) do what I think is best for the country. But I know the effect of this is that Mahathir will not be happy with me because history has shown that he has dismissed and got rid of many Prime Ministers before this,” he said.

This was Najib’s first international interview after the US Department of Justice (DOJ) claimed more than US$3.5 billion was siphoned from Malaysian state-fund 1MDB and was confiscating US$1 billion in assets acquired through the stolen money.

Najib was asked about the DOJ action in the interview but claimed it did not involve him.He also claimed the 1MDB scandal is merely a “business” issue and the opposition was politicising it to unseat him.

  1. What bull is that? Did we authorise him to take 1MDB money and send it to his personal bank account with Arab Malaysian Bank? Did we give him the mandate to be corrupt? We expect him to lead, not be a hen- packed Prime Minister. We all know that Mahathir is a busy body, But we are talking about his character and integrity that make him unfit to remain in power. The Indonesians also know that he is just spinning.–Din Merican

  2. The definition of SOCIOPATH, is lack of remorse, shame or guilt. The difference between Najib and Donald Trump is that Trump still has to recognise criticism that has real effect, Najib do not.

  3. It’s OK. Things have a way of working out in their own good time.

The fact that he and his 1st Lady cannot or rather dare not go for shopping junkets and stay at all the fine residences in Rome, Paris, New York, London, or even Langkawi, etc, is already a fine start.

I am waiting to wake up one morning to watch another TV press conference by Loretta Lynch and her compatriots announcing criminal charges against a certain relative of “Malaysian official 1” and his chubby Uni-mate and others at large over some ordinary “business issues”

  4. What bull is that? Din

Auroch-Bison Halal Steak style, my friend. Flopper in extremis.

While the DoJ and other countries are involved in the 1MDB FUBAR, what is immediately relevant and seriously deadly to this bloke is the KWAP-SRC-Mastercard transactions in his account.

With all this bluster and hee-hawing on 1MDB, in part due to the unimaginable amounts and the complex paper/electronic trial, we tend to forget the easiest way to ‘belasah’ MO1 Dedaker..

The more we concentrate on 1MDB, the longer it’ll take to rid us of that treasonous endoparasite and clan. In fact, the supposed indictment drawn up by the chronic renal failure A-G, was related to this..

Perhaps Octo et al and the Oppo blinkers will concentrate on this ‘growth hormone in Birkin bag and Italian shoes’ charge-card sort of thing.

Meanwhile. i’m most pleased to inform the Fascist Kleptocrats, that PRC SOE investment and ownership is proceeding smoothly and will make Bolehland the backbone of Sino-Melayu corruption.

Yup.., the Sepet rules. Octo is a small time Machiavelli compared with these blokes who’d Sun Tzu all ‘Takers’ to kingdom come. Btw, what is the modern equivalent of ‘Bunga Mas’?

  5. 1 PM is a good spinner.. Bullshit to him …rakyat r not that easily conned.. ..n we are voting him out.. .

  6. So….now you choose to lead us to bankruptcy! I think it is better for you to be control by Mahathir than lead this country into a failure state.

  7. The Puppet has turned Master.

It is not necessary a bad thing, if Master Najib is committed to strong reformasi in actions and policies that are fair, constructive and inclusive, regardless of race and religion, rather just words, to prove his wort in regaining the confidence lost, reining in corruption, money politics and cronysm with the PROPET USE of power. People would understand these could not be achieved overnight but they want to see firm initiation and progressive actions be taken, decisively and fairly, Not selectively.

    Or

The Rakyat would punish him come GE 14.
    The blame game is over.
There shall be no more excuse !

  8. Whether you are a puppet or not is beside the point.

The point is whether you are leading the nation into greater heights
    or deeper into the abyss.

  9. WHAT A THICK SKINNED SPINNER HE IS. THIS CROOKED GUY GOES FARTING FOUL ODOUR WHEREVER HE GOES.

HE IS STUPID TO THINK THAT OTHERS WILL BE TAKEN IN BY ALL HIS BIG BLUFF. THIS CROOKED GUY GOES FARTING FOUL ODOUR WHEREVER HE GOES.

THE INTERVIEWER SHOULD HAVE ASKED HIM “WHO DO YOU THINK IS MO1”. I’D LIKE TO HEAR HIS ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION.

  10. Jibby, you chose to be PM of Malaysia, then perform your duties and take all the accolades and critism in stride. Malaysians did not choose you to be PM but your cronies and the goons in UMNOb that chose you to be the PM. So don’t complain. If you don’t like to be PM, then resign. Malaysia is a democratice country you claim, resign and allow someone else to be the PM.
Malaysians wants good governance and if you cannot provide good governance then step aside. Malaysians chose a government to govern the country and develop the country not to succumb to the crooks like Jho Low and Riza Aziz.

  11. Quote:- “THE INTERVIEWER SHOULD HAVE ASKED HIM “WHO DO YOU THINK IS MO1”. I’D LIKE TO HEAR HIS ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION”

That should be easy to answer.

His probable answer, if I am his speech adviser as he probably anticipates such a question coming from a foreign press:-

“Oh, I suppose you have to ask Lorretta Lynch yourself. However, I, as head of state of a country friendly to the US and its government should not indulge in any uncalled for speculation on a matter still under judicial consideration in the US courts of law, sub judice I believe they call it, and preempt or even complicate the good work of the US Department of Justice, which, as I’ve said, the government of Malaysia will extend its full cooperation”

    A better question is…”Are you MO1?”

He has to answer “yes” or “no”, it cannot be both or neither, and if he vacillates, or tries to change the subject, then he is caught.

  12. By saying this arrogant and conceited thing ” I chose to be the PM ” , it does show that he is not fit to be the PM. Someone powerful must MOVE you first, and the entire UMNO Convention then endorse meekly and say in unison ‘ we agree ‘ before anyone can be made the Pee….EM…..The Congress merely nod in unison acting with servility.
The next turn around after GE14, they all should chorus to say ‘ we do not need you any longer ‘ , kindly pack your bag , thank you, you have proven yourself to be unable to discharge your Duty honorably ‘ – accompanied by a Certificate from the Psychiatric department , for proof that it was not a dishonorable Discharge….as some Chinese may say for ” Face-saving ” !

  13. A man without honour and dignity has nothing and is nothing. A man without honour is worse than dead. Only God knows why this shameless hypocrite is still alive.
At least Tun Mahathir had the decency and good taste to know when to step down. All the years of English public schooling had gone to waste. Even an English gentleman like David Cameron resigned over Brexit.
One can remove a lanun away from villainy but one cannot remove the villainy in a lanun.
