  1. Silver tongued orator and maybe the best the millennia has delivered to this day! The choice is clear , which every we argue or reason this out Hillary is the only choice, the opposite being a Demagogue Narcissistic Trump who clearly lives in single man planet also called trump. Yep those words in CAPS BOLDFACE. But we watch this drama unfold. Hitler campaigned for more than 8 years and when he addressed in Nuremberg under great time of duress post depression many travails Germany was willing to try anything.Some of these forces were unleashed even during old Prussia. Its interesting how similar patterns re-emerge in human interactions. Yep we all offer very little influence and take many brickbats thrown by an american leader.

  2. I always thought that Clinton’s campaign slogan “Stronger Together” sounded rather corny, even bordering on being superfluous. Like a clumsy attempt to appear inclusive but ultimately falls flat like motherhood slogans always do.

    Until Obama gave ‘Stronger Together” life and a soaring perspective while reminding Americans of their common values and the amalgams that bind them:
    “These values my grandparents taught me (invoking universal virtues unrestricted by boundaries or ideologies like honesty, hard work, kindness, courtesy, humility, responsibility and helping each other) — they haven’t gone anywhere. They’re as strong as ever; still cherished by people of every party, every race, and every faith. They live on in each of us. What makes us American, what makes us patriots, is what’s in here. That’s what matters.”
    “That is America. Those bonds of affection; that common creed. We don’t fear the future; we shape it. We embrace it, as one people, stronger together than we are on our own.”

    Not Obama’s best speech but still it demolishes effectively Trump’s dystopian version of America riven by fear, suspicion and violence.

  3. If Hillary wins the election, that would make the Clintons the first couple ever to have both the husband and wife as the Head of State in the US. Or, anywhere else in the world? Would Bill then be the First Gentleman?

  4. Dear “The” 9:34 am

    Plenty of husband and wife leaders in the world
    e.g. Pakistan’s Benazir and her husband; Argentina with
    Nestor Kirchner and his wife Cristina, and the Perons; Zia family of
    Bangladesh; Cheddi Jagan and the US-born Janet Jagan of
    Guyana;

    Then the informal ones i.e. Zimbabwe with Robert and Grace(less);
    Mao and his vicious wife Jiang Jing; 1Malaysia with Najib and Big Hair 🙂

    Of course, there are lots husband and wife being Heads of State of major countries in history. Wu Zetian who was crowned a sovereign emperor of China in her own right after her husband Emperor Gaozong passed away. Czarina Catherine the Great was crowned sovereign after her husband Peter III was deposed. Actually, there are several Russian empresses who were crowned as sovereigns after their husband’s death. Peter the Great’s wife Catherine I (a different Catherine), for example, was also crowned a sovereign.

    Then there was William III and (his wife) Mary II of Great Britain who were joint sovereigns. Then there was Phillip II of Spain and his wife Mary I of England, who were sovereigns of their own individual countries.

    The terms queen and empress can sometimes be confusing. Usually there is only one sovereign (Head of State), and that was usually male, so typically the King/Emperor. And his first consort will have the title of Queen/Empress. Usually the consort Queen/Empress stops being one when her husband, the sovereign, dies. But sometimes, as mentioned above, the Queen/Empress is the sovereign or becomes one. Indeed, the current queen of Great Britain, Elizabeth II, is the sovereign, and her husband is just the consort. But male consorts don’t get the title of King/Emperor. Very unfair I know.

  6. If you object to examples of royalty, then there is the former PM of Bangladesh Khaleda Zia, who was the wife of the former President of Bangladesh. There is of course the more famous husband-wife team of Benazir Bhutto (PM) and Asif Zardari (President) from Pakistan. There are also the Kirchners of Argentina who were both Presidents, as were the Perons before them. So Argentina has actually had two sets of spouses as heads of state!

  7. It is not over until the “fat lady” songs-pardon the expression. And do not forget what happened to Argentina.

    In MO1’s case, the Big Hair one is the Empress. Her second husband is the Consort, or Eunuch or puppet on a string…..

  9. Janet Jagan’s story is quite interesting —- a white American woman who married a Guyanese dental student, relocated to Guyana,
    husband was one of the founding fathers of Guyana, and who became
    leader of Guyana eventually.
