Haris Ibrahim on Project IC

haris-ibrahimA friend, quite sometime back, told me of an incident that his close friend was subjected to.His friend, a high-flyimg corporate figure, was summoned to meet the then Prime Minister, that man of Keralite descent.

Now when you are a businessman and are told that the Prime Minister wants you to see him, you do go.

On reaching the Prime Minister’s office at the appointed time, he was ushered into a waiting room and told that the Prime Minister had some visitors then and that he would be called as soon as the Prime Minister was free to see him.

Whilst alone in the waiting room and after the customary tea and snacks had been served, this corporate figure was surprised to see a single, thick file on the coffee-table in front of him with his name emblazoned on it.

After furtively glancing about to make sure no one else was there nor could anyone see him, he peeked into the file and to his horror found that just about every wrong that he had done in his life was meticulously recorded and documented in that file.

Shortly thereafter and whilst his head was still ‘spinning’ from his discovery, he was ushered in to meet the Prime Minister. When the Prime Minister spoke to him, it hardly registered in his mind what was being said. All he could then think of was what was in that file and wondering to himself how long and how many knew about what he had done.

Not surprisingly, whatever the Prime Minister then asked of him, he readily agreed to.If you have ever wondered what is it that makes so many of our people, numbering amongst them politicians, civil servants, judges, businessmen, activists and others (including those who suddenly do an about-turn), ‘toe the line’ when it comes to fulfilling the wishes of our leaders, the above scenario provides a likely explanation.

It should come as no surprise therefore that high up in the criteria for selecting persons to key appointments is that the file kept on them ought to be sufficiently thick and detailed to enable them to be kept under control.

To aid in the control of them, too, it is advantageous to permit them to continue in their wrongdoings as these acts can be further recorded and documented in their files for further use in controlling them.

Now do you understand how and why so many of our Ministers, civil servants and so many others in key positions were and are corrupt? They are permitted to be so, so that they can be controlled.

If investigation had commenced against them or charges preferred against them, so much the better. The investigation could be stifled or the charges dropped and their eternal loyalty and gratitude obtained.

It is not surprising therefore to learn that those involved in Project IC in Sabah, as reported, made money in the process and sold these ICs.

As reported, the Special Branch of the Police knew of it and by extension therefore the political masters knew too.

The political masters were quite content to allow them to make money on the side as this would further ‘buy their silence’ over the matter. Though it must have been known that these people were making money on the side in issuing ICs under Project IC or Project M as it is better known, yet they were never charged in Court.

Why were they not charged?Well, there was the risk that they might, to save their own skin, blurt out in Court that they were following orders from their political masters in issuing the ICs.

I venture to guess that some amongst them, who the political masters were mahathir_mohamadsubsequently afraid might ‘spill the beans’, were then detained under the ISA in a bid to intimidate them and keep them silent.

Do not therefore be mistaken into believing that the NRD officers in Sabah in illegally issuing ICs did so independently and solely for monetary gain without the complicity of the political masters.

I will not be surprised if that is the line taken by Mahathir to save himself. The reported meetings had with Mahathir’s henchmen, Megat Junid and Aziz Shamsuddin, on these matters are however too revealing to exculpate Mahathir’s involvement in these treasonous acts.

Is it any wonder then that Mahathir is campaigning in the 13th GE as though his very life depended on it? He may, after all, be right about that.

  1. That is true. We remember the incident when Mahathir called UMNO Kedah state assemblymen who strongly objected to the appointment of that “budak Acheh nakal dari Yan, Kedah” as the Menteri Besar to succeed Osman Aroop. They came to see as directed and after the meeting with the Prime Minister they announced that they accepted his nominee and praised him.

We know what happened. Mahathir must have met them individually (and after that collectively),showed them their files and threatened them with action. He would even call the banks to cancel their overdraft facilities if they did not play along.

  2. THERE IS NO WAY MAHATHIR IS NOT GUILTY OF PROJECT IC’s TREASON. Mustapha Harun had said it no record, more than once, that he had KL approval to process the illegal immigrant. He had declared it openly that it was his goal to migrate them in. People forget that THEY amended that Sabah constitution to make Islam the state religion WHEN in fact the Malaysia Agreement specifically forbid a state religion in Sabah and Sarawak.

If Mahathir is not guilty, my crap smells like perfume..

  3. I know for a fact that he reads all the time (Mahathir) and I guess that maybe half of those books were or are about subject of control and manipulation, tactics used by KGB,CIA,MI6 or Mozzad …..Oouch!!!

  4. I have heard many stories in my time too. But this talk of Maha Firaun (and LKY too) having secret files and the dirty on all and sundry is a figment of paranoid minds. it simple doesn’t work that way because the really savvy businessmen and cronies he needs, are likely to have the dirt on Mahathir too. Besides, much of so called “information” is based on unrealiable stool pigeons out to make a quick buck, and for Maha Firaun to go go to court on such iffy gutter talk would be suicidal.

The reality is a “win, win” deal is usually struck between Maha Firaun and the crony and /or businessman, because they are the ones who can engineer and deliver on these crooked and corrupt contracts, AND ensure the agreed percentage flows back to BUMNP/BN’s coffers (i.e. the code of the crooked). Maha Firaun’s ultimate trump card was the ISA, PPPA and Rural Restriction Order, and not “secret files”.

we are all of 1 Race, the Human Race

  5. Easy way to get around this problem with intimidation and coercion
(and abuse of state security agencies):

Immunity from prosecution (or much reduced charges) in return for FULL
testimony at official investigations, including Truth and Reconciliation Commissions.
Use these testimonies to prosecute the biggest “fishes” (rather, sharks)

  6. Of course, PR needs to gain power at the federal level first.

That is why fear of regime change is resulting in
the non-stop barrage of self-serving, twisted propaganda we long suffering decent citizens of Malaysia are being subjected to (daily!). Including from political dinosaurs.

  7. Reading the article in the Malaysian Insider, ‘Save Selangor to maintain position of Malays, Bumiputras’ by the “man of Keralite descent” it baffles me as to the shallow thinking of this man. His utterances are so low and devoid of ethics (I suppose that word is not in his dictionary!!) that it does not deserve publication in the alternative media. Enough said on this low life Mamak Kutty.

It would be a scoop of the century if the number and details of the files could be made known. Just imagine the surprise it will generate on the name list.

  8. I would agree with dpp, simply because that’s how things actually work for those who have been in the service and know what’s it’s all about. Octo with his multiple grasping arms could squeeze the living daylights outta anyone – without conscience. All these myths about having secret files is sheer bunkum.

Octo is not horse trader, but a magician – all he had to do was to conjure up unsavory ‘secrets’ using his lackeys and the vast powers available to him. Those who know him are often awed by his quickness of reading intent and body language. He doesn’t even need to issue orders and doesn’t micro-manage but is able to visualize the panorama, unlike all his detractors.

His flunkies are often left to intuit his intent. All megalomaniacs do that. His cronies are particularly adept at reading between the lines. The Key Word is ‘Profit’, no matter what the circumstances – and all businessmen who belong to his coterie of misfits have the consciences of feral hogs wallowing in the mud. Opportunists and Immoral ‘Mediocrats’.

As such, all that is said and bandied about on Octo’s scheming and conniving methods are way off mark, for he taps easily into the greed (whether in material profit or career advancement) inherent to all men whose conscience is as brittle as glass.

The writer of this piece, would do well to substantiate his case and not sound overmuch like his good friend RPK, who thrives on innuendos and rumors. Myths are nothing but mimetic desire to be the same.

  9. This man called dr mahathir mohammad is guilty of so many sins – treason being the most serious. The authorities should not bother to even charge him in court. Instead they should just drop a hand grenade ( with its pin pulled out ) and drop it in his pants so that he can experience the bang of his life. …. :).

  10. The number of comments and the sheer usage of words in Malaysia Today or in The Malaysianinsider whenever an article on Mahathir is posted baffles me and it deserves rightly so.But why are the same comments not posted in his own blog CHEDET by the same people? Most of the comments in his blog are simply putting the idiot on the pedestal. Is it because they do not read his blog or is it fear of retribution from the old fox himself?

  11. that mahathirudan is a born ‘multitalent’ and therefore we can presume that he has many methods to subjugate people.
it is logical that he had dosiers on all the top businessmen, as his sidekicks would willingly prepare one to appease their beloved master, for the smaller figures the government apparatchik would suffice to gather information under appropriate pretexts but the thought of defending himself in court would have never crossed his mind – he is next to God he assumes.
we are dealing with a very intelligent and cunning man who planned and carved out a lucrative career for himself and his family (at the cost poor malaysians), therefore it is not unlikely that he had dosiers on his business partners. such people record meticulously nearly everything or have done by others, typical of despots.

  12. After reading this article, now I know why RPK changes his stories; he got no choice but to get his son released. Everyone has a price. Everyone has an achillles heel.

  13. Vijian Suppiah, in the beginning I used to post my comments in Che Det’s blog but it never got published so why bother to read or post….

  14. clf,
What’s new anyway? Nixon had said before ”

When you have their cojones on your hands, their hearts & minds will follow”

Watch Yes Minister “Writing on the wall”

Since Din has seldom played songs during le weekend, here is one for you guys
