Have a Great Weekend, Friends

January 28, 2010

Friends,

I am ahead of schedule this week to bring you some wholesome entertainment. This is because in the next two days Kamsiah and I will be at her niece’s wedding ceremonies.  I have chosen with appropriate advice from Kamsiah to feature  some of the finest female vocalists for your weekend pleasure. I think we all deserve some light entertainment after heavy politiking on this blog.

We must ease tensions and remember that Malaysia is a beautiful place to be, although it can be better if we are a united people, less conscious  of our colour, race and creed. I am proud to be Malaysian, and it is hard for me to trade places. But I am also a Malaysian who recognises that Malaysia “tak boleh semua”, although some of our leaders “sapu semua”, leaving crumps for the rest of us.  Have a good weekend.–DJ Din Merican

Joni Mitchell– Both Sides Now

Petula Clark–Love, This is My Song

Anne Murray–Snowbird

Natalie Cole–Orange Coloured Sky

Vanessa Williams–Save the Best for Last

Brenda Lee– I want to be wanted

Diana Krall–The Look of Love

How nice if Christians have a bersanding and anak nikah ceremony and Muslims have their weddings in a church?

That will help to cool off this pig head throwing and church firebombing incidents in the country.

And Din can be our Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady for this weekend:

  2. ” How nice if Christians have a bersanding and anak nikah ceremony …” Frank

What the hell is “anak nikah”?? Are you suggesting that the bride is “with child”??

  3. How nice if Christians have a bersanding ceremony?

Frank, are you suggesting that the pastor blesses their marriage as well and the mufti says”I pronounce you husband and wife” and “You may kiss the bride”?? Life is already complicated and you want to complicate things further?

  4. Wah Din bukan main awal lagi minggu ni. Saya tahu sekarang bulan penuh dan Din ok tengah mabuk cinta. Macam masa umur 16 dulu di tepi Wat Bakar Bata. Semoga berbahagia semua rakyat Malaysia.

Life is already complicated and you want to complicate things further? Bean.

Bean, Actually it is not that complicated. In fact I am happy to see pictures of people “samak” the mosque after the pig head incident. Clearly people are matured now and they know that some idiots are provocating. If the similar case happen in Nigeria am not sure how many human heads will be chopped off.

Bravo rational Malaysians and let’s go to Batu Cave and enjoy the colours, the smell and the sound of Taipusam.

Sorry for you Dr. Bean. At your best you can only dating Paris Hilton at Pasadena and you can’t poke her as much as our Indian friends poking their bodies on Thaipusam day. Look..

  5. “Mengapa kau bersedih?
“Diriku ini yang selalu setia pada mu”…Sharifah Aini?

    Dr. Bean,
You should play this song for Dr. Kam.

  6. You can’t play anthing for drkam. Din Merican is gonna get angry.

New Yorker Bean, it is okay by me if you wish to dedicate a song to dr.kam. She likes good music, especially contemporary R&B. Please go ahead.—Din Merican

  7. What the hell is “anak nikah”?? Are you suggesting that the bride is “with child”??- Mr.Bean

Ahhh!!! Mr. Bean, Its “naik nikah… ” slip of the keyboard is no slip of the fingers.

  8. “Frank, are you suggesting that the pastor blesses their marriage as well and the mufti says”I pronounce you husband and wife” “-Mr.Bean

Two options: The mufti can conduct the ceremony the Muslim way in church. After all God is Allah and Allah is God. Everything else practised by mortals are just RITUALS and rituals are culture based, not religion based. And God/Allah in all his Compassion will and All-Knowing should able to differentiate between what is Culture and what is Spiritual. Otherwise, God/Allah is living on another planet.

Second option: The pastor can conduct the service the Islamic way and use the Quran instead of the Bible and instead pronounce, ” Go forth and be fruitful and multiply to contribute to the wealth of the ummah of Christians”.

Bersanding ceremony is Malay culture and has nothing to do with Islam. It is a “Raja Sehari”. It would be nice if after a Christian ceremony in church, the bride and bride-groom undertake the bersanding ceremony. I suggest this should be in the Policy Paper on One Culture Malaysia of Pakatan Rakyat.

This wearing of white gown walking down the aisle is a throwback to our British colonial history. What’s with a white gown to represent purity, virgin steady and all the crap.Nowadays there is nothing pure when a kid(boy and girl when their sex hormones are raging at the age of 15. Forget the white wedding dress. The bride should be wearing a RED wedding dress instead.

  9. OK now that I see a picture of (as they say over here) “drop dead gorgeous” drkam, I’m reminded how lucky our Din Merican is i.e. to be alive. For those unfamiliar with the term ‘drop dead gorgeous’ here is one definition given by Urban Dictionary:

“Someone who at first glance is so gorgeous, it is hard to look away. So you look on which makes your heart beat faster and then time slows. Your heart follows slowing while thumping louder and louder. Then you open one eye then the next the doctor turns to your girlfriend and says he’s fine. 50 years later you tell your grandkids the day you actually saw someone so fine you almost dropped dead.”

  10. I don’t understand. Why do people marry?? – bean

Simply to complete the sequence of a pre-destined journey that begins with the engagement-ring which is then followed by the wedding-ring , which in turn ushers in a new chapter that ends in a lifetime of suffe-ring

  11. ” Nowadays there is nothing pure when a kid(boy and girl when their sex hormones are raging at the age of 15. Forget the white wedding dress. The bride should be wearing a RED wedding dress instead.” Frank

Good Lord, Frank! You’re more confused that I thought.

So Din Merican, step aside. Here’s from the guys to ‘drop dead gorgeous’ drkam. Please put on your BOSE earphones.

    Thanks Bean_____kamsiah

  13. Hello Bean and Frank.

When both of you were young and naughty, colour of wedding dress must be missing from your lexicon. Too busy dissecting the anatomy of the girls wearing those dress?
Now, you have all the time to debate on the colour of outer layers.
Look this songs is for both of you.

  14. “Pink?? That takes it in another direction – homophobia and not just Islamophobia!”-Mr.Bean

Perhaps you like GREEN wedding gowns. International colour for “anything goes.”
