The Weekend Entertainment–Down Memory Lane

We are back after a rather busy period entertaining and visiting friends and associates as part of the Eid Aidil Fitr celebrations. It was nice to meet up with them to renew friendship and chat about the good old days. It was during our Open Day at home in Damasara Jaya, a friend talked to us about the great songs of the late 1960s and the 1970s and how meaningful the lyrics of these songs are compared to those of more recent times.

We thought it is appropriate that we play some tunes of that decade. Please enjoy yourself by recalling the thrilling and frustrating times of your lives. But no matter what,  remember life is great if we accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.–Dr. Kamsiah and Din Merican

  1. Neil Diamond is a Jew and UMNO today given the choice would ban all his records.

So what, he has talent and composes great songs. –Din Merican

  2. I’m sorry Dato but these featured here are mostly from the late ’60s. A rock and roll band from Obama’s neck of the woods called Chicago described themseves as a “rock and roll band with horns – because of the instruments they use. And so if you guys get horny you may want to listen to the music of Chicago.

Don’t get me wrong. Neil Diamond was one of my favorites.

  4. Neil Diamond is also one of my faves — some have described hi as a Jew-Elvis. Din, I dedicated NatKingCole’s RAMBLIN’ROSE to my ER too, includin’ ye!:):)

  5. Din,
David soul aka ken hutchision of the famous starsky & hutch. Love all the series. By the time, it’s aired in Malaysia. It’d be a rerun. Me born in 1974 la dei. Too young to watch when it first aired anyway.
Now David is in London, a uk citizen. By the way, David & Michael’s English pretty close to Canada. Hahaha! Huggy bear is cool along with no nonsense captain Dolby.
Gosh, how I wish I was born much earlier instead of hehehe

  6. Neil Diamond with his Cracklin’ Rosie

the trip down memory lane takes us through songs of the Monkees and also Petula Clark.

RIP, Neil. You will always be remembered as the first man on the moon. Buzz Aldrin was your colleague on that mission.–Din Merican

  8. Send list of Jewish singers and song writers to that silly “I am in the mode” Information and Culture Minister, so that all their songs are BANNED from being played on radio and TV in Malaysia… because they are against UMNO’s version of Islam and their songs contain anti-Islamic and atheist propaganda. These Jewish singers and songwriters are causing young Malay girls for having babies before marriage. National Fatwa Council MUST issue a fatwa against songs sung and written by Jewish artists.

    Hidup 1Malaysia. Hidup UMNO
    ______________
Thanks, Frank. Without them, we will have no music but kerongcong.–Din Merican

  9. Hey MR. BEAN… if that is really you on the keyboard then singing ought to have been your vocation. Great stuff, man.

  10. CLF – this is what I see on my screen when I click your link!

”Leider ist dieses Video, das Musik von SME beinhaltet, in Deutschland nicht verfügbar, da die GEMA die Verlagsrechte hieran nicht eingeräumt hat.
    Das tut uns leid.”
is santana a Jew and the Germans have banned it?
or are they taking orders from UMNO fatwa council?

Neil Armstrong was the first man to leave the gravitational field of earth and land on an Alien world, a great and brave feat for man. achievement of the century for the americans and mankind. the technology required for the such a journey, the landing and takeoff were originally developed mainly by Jewish/German engineers like Werner von Braun.
its been 40 years since Armstrong landed on the moon, lets hope that man will land soon on Mars. China and India?

    its a wonderful world!

Mr. Bean sings so fluently in Marshallese, is your better half from there?

  11. Thank you, Isa. Dato and Datin offered me a job some time ago as the resident singer at their favorite watering hole in TTDI. I’m now re-considering the offer.

  12. Isa, Bean should be performing in front of Globe Silk Store to entertain shoppers. You fell for it.Dato, what’s wrong with Keroncong music, Reggae is Keroncong beat.

Nothing is wrong with keroncong music; it is just monotony and too laid back. As for Bean (if that is really him), he needs more practice. As it is, he won’t survive performing in front of Globe Silk Store. The store owner will probably pay him not to sing.–Din Merican

  13. Bean,
I guess you should consult George w bush on how to avoid flying objects thrown at you. That includes several pairs of shoes

  14. Throwing slippers at me is not a good idea. My day job is as an attorney and hence an officer of the court. I only sing to make ends meet. If you throw slippers at me while you are on the witness stand being cross-examined, that would be contempt in the face of the court. You don’t want to do that.

  15. Nothing monotonous about this keroncong jazz

    _____________
This is what happens when you make a kerongcong out of a popular Neil Sedaka’s hit tune of the 1960s.Here is the original.

Try to put this Anka hit into kerongcong with the help of mode change minister Rais Yatim and claim it to be a Malaysian/Malay song. Mr Anka will take you to court.–Din Merican

  16. I say Orang Malaya, you always come out with some really good numbers. Give us more ! But our bloghost is turned off by keronchong.
