PKR-DAP ties intact, says Dato’ Mansor Othman
PKR Penang Chief Mansor Othman says the blog posting about a PKR meeting, where Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was said to have been called arrogant, was deliberately spun to portray poor ties between PKR and DAP.
Mansor, who is also Deputy Chief Minister I, denied at a press conference today that a PKR ‘strategic meeting’ had taken place as reported in a little-known blog, which also claimed to have posted the minutes that were recorded.
However, he admitted, an unofficial meeting did take place, but the words spoken about the Chief Minister, such as ‘tokong‘ (deity) were used in a positive context and were meant to praise Lim (right).
“The discussions was not official, and were centred on party matters and related to preparations for the next general election,” Mansor said.
“Words such as ‘cocky’, ‘arrogant’ and ‘deity’ were taken out of context to give a bad image of the relations between PKR and DAP. “For example, the word ‘tokong’ was used in reference to the respect and esteem the people of Penang have for the Chief Mminister,” he added.
PKR-DAP ties intact
During a question-answer session later, Mansor further denied that he had ever said that Lim was cocky or arrogant. “I don’t think I ever said that, I don’t think the Chief Minister is cocky and arrogant,” he said.
“I don’t know where those words came from. I only used the word ‘tokong’, and most importantly, that was not done with ill intentions,” he added.
Mansor (left) said the reports nevertheless will not “destroy the good relations” between the two opposition parties.
He added that the party is still trying to find the culprit responsible for the report.
“I think there is a leak, and we are still probing into that as we have yet to know who the culprit is,” he said.
Also at the press conference today were Lim Guan Eng, along with state DAP Chief Chow Kon Yeow, State PKR Vice-Chairperson Abdul Malik Abul Kassim, Penang Islamic Religious Council President Salleh Man and state DAP Youth Chief Ng Wei Aik.
Chot, the leak was not aimed at destroying the relationship between PKR and DAP; the leak was to destroy you by your ambitious colleagues (with UMNO DNA) in PKR, in case you missed the nuance. Soon Anwar will abandon you.
All this goes to show that nothing has really changed. The politics of race and religion continue in another form, less intrusive perhaps but it is there and colors our judgments. Just as Malay leaders in PKR carry that excess baggage they inherit from their days spent in UMNO, some in the DAP have not emerged from the euphoria felt of being in government.
Unless we get rid of the laws that define us as Malays, Chinese and Indians and others relations will continue to be racially abrasive. It has taken some five decades to get to the rot we find ourselves it will take more decades to undo the rot.
PAS is the wild card.
My view, very difficult for UMNO/Gerakan/MCA to take back Penang.Guan Eng just to make sure he look after the Malay needs. They are not ambitious people.Their needs are vary simple, low cost house,a place or hawker to do business, class F contractor easy to get MPPP and MPSP contract, looking after imam and bilal.
Chot area is Penanti.very secure for him.
The opposition has not even come up with a political party and has stuck to the concept of electoral alliance which is what Pakatan is all about. It uses the same formula used by the Alliance the precursor of today’s BN. Nothing wrong with power sharing but when power sharing is based on race (and religion) it takes the country back to where it started.
Pakatan in government may be short lived and a temporary distraction.
In the first place, why make unnecessary remarks and providing opportunities for your opponents to spin? Bodoh punya orang ini Mansor! If he were a good party leader, Mansor would have tried to calm down his over-emotional party members instead adding more fuel to the fire.
But this is the basic problem for PKR: Anwar surrounds himself with mediocre and incompetent people so that they will always be subservient to him. He would not tolerate any opposition to his ideas and plans. Yet, you call him a democrat.
It is indeed not surprising to see the UMNO-style back-stabbing politics being practised here in PKR…. sad….
When you surround yourself with ‘Yes’ men, you get to hear only the echoes of your own voice. You don’t get to hear what you ought to be hearing until it is too late. People who have your best interest at heart would speak objectively and critically if need be and face your wrath in the short term. A good leader would welcome criticism and with it feedback – not what they think they want him to hear. He can’t be putting his ears to the ground all the time. He has to depend on the most trusted of his aides to do that for him. Having said that a visionary leader cannot be too far ahead of the crowd or he’ll lose the crowd.
True la Gurubachan.
Sometimes people surround themselves with ‘Whaddya’ flunkies to look good. Spouting proverbs, poetry and quotes from obscure intellectuals and literary figures does make one seem very adroit, clever and polished. I wonder what Guru Nanak would call such behavior. Scurrilous?
Methinks some thinking outta box is needed, ‘cuz advisers need to be renewed periodically – just like stale socks or knickers. But i guess pragmatism beats originality. Luckily Anwar does his own speeches as often as he can. The speechwriters across the political divide are much worse – looks, smells and sounds like dead fish. Look at Jibs. He keeps wearing the same pair except the color changes from whitish pink to brown to sickly grayish green.
As for this Chot fella, LGE should just come out and announce with conviction and full of grace: “I forgive you!”. Then give him a surreptitious kick in the butt. These PKR fellas are like barbarians at the gates, all talk and no show. The DAP chaps are like hungry ghosts who’ll sell off their anointed joss sticks. And the PAS mullahs are obsessed with piety for the wrong reasons and react with infantile reflexes to hoary UMNO jibes.
C’mon fellas, show some skill and class la. Otherwise all those dreams, prophesies, the Urim and Thummim (wiki it, okay) for simple dogs like me go to waste. Surely you guys can do better?
No guru,
Pkr is gung ho in snatching other people’s teritories. What’s mine is mine & yours are mine as well. It’s a pre-emptive strike to ensure that pkr would contest in 14 seats. Dap has been too accommodating. Of course, clf the anwarista disagrees as usual
Greenbug,
You got my point!
Clf,
Dap has forgiven pkr all the time. When pkr ever learn to know its limitation. Why can’t pkr start from bottom up. Solid foundation better than poaching
Right, din
i never knew – being so naive in political intreagues – that racial posturings along racial lines in the choice of Candidates for the various constituncies in Penang, is so marked, despite PKR being a coalition of ” partners” to fight for the common good.
Are these only a game of pretences, about who is going to dominate against the two others in this Opposition coalition, i wonder ?
Go away Looes, I dun fren u.
Now, some serious reflection for PR hacks.
Ibnu,
Pkr has declared itself as the new umno in pakatan. See how of all times pkr leaders including anwar make statements or announcement without consulting dap or pas. Fuziah salleh made a pre emptive strike seizing batu sapi candidacy during the by election. Ask tony pua if he’s furious over it. Last check pkr never contested in that area. Ansari is a guarantee chief so by right to give away tuaran to dap. Anwar Ibrahim, clf beloved maha leader brought in bumburing just to make sure that no seats are given to dap.
It’s a classic example of what is mine stays mine & yours might be mine too. I am pissed over Mansor remark. Where the hell is anwar in this case. Mansor should be reprimanded. Takdak apa right. So long dap don’t complain much, semua pun ok. Kaotim. Pkr has achieved its objective. To keep 14 Penang state seats. Can perform, got good candidates, not important. Semua aku punya
Clf,
I am really disappointed that such comments come from. You got brain one lei. Use it la. phua chu kang says so
“Maybe Pakatan Penang has been suspecting all along that there was a ‘traitor’ or a ‘BN sleeper’ in the top PKR party ranks. The words was deliberately said in the meeting, and it is confirmed it was an inside job.”
If I were LGE or Mansor, I would have played it this way. It would have removed any oportunity for BN to hype on the incident because the BN people in KL would be confused who among them is controlling the BN sleeper. This will create animosity among the BN members.
