Dato Mohd Ariff Sabri: A New Team in Putrajaya soon
We are going to see a new government in Putrajaya after the 13th general election. My prediction is that Barisan Nasional will end up with between 97 to 114 seats. There are 222 seats in parliament.
BN Chairman Najib Tun Razak knows that with just a three percent swing in popular votes, UMNO will be left with 71 seats.
With the same vote swing, MCA will end up with 10 seats and MIC will be reduced to two parliamentary seats. But it is more likely, MCA may only end up with two parliamentary seats having lost its legitimacy among the Chinese.
When this happens we will see a new team move into Putrajaya. When this
happens, we can expect the current Chief Secretary Dr Ali Hamsa to tender his resignation. We will request former Chief Secretary Sidek Hassan to relinquish his post as chairman of Petronas.
We will let Najib know the business of government is not like playing musical chairs.Najib stops the music and shoves a chair underneath Sidek while pulling away some seats meant for other people. There’s no telling what Sidek will and can reveal if he were allowed to fall.
‘UMNO thinks in private’
It’s almost a protocol nowadays for former senior servants to kiss and tell all. We will also deal with Azman Mokhtar and see what Khazanah has been up to.
We will put their books under the knife and allow accountants to look at how and what the Ivy-league university boys have done with our funds. We will ask all loss making government-linked companies (GLCs) to stand and be counted and if after the count, they can’t stand, we will close them.
We will ask Syed Mokhtar Bukhary to reduce his debt exposure because we cannot allow such huge debt exposure to threaten our financial system and bring this country to an economic collapse.
We will also haul the bank that breached the limit in lending to one particular borrower. Probably the UMNO leaders have talked themselves into becoming block-headed to deny the overwhelming rejection of UMNO-BN by the people.
Let me tell you 90% of the Chinese reject UMNO-BN. So UMNO tries to stop the rising tide of discontent by pitting Malays against Chinese.
I hope the majority of Malays are sensible enough to be aware that numerically the Chinese will never be able to replace Malays.
As for the Malaysian Indians, only the most insensitive among them will want
to support UMNO-BN after the “hang (BERSIH co-chairman) Ambiga” outburst.
Believe me that statement was not done in a fit of absent-mindedness.It was a calculated statement designed to create fear in those who opposed UMNO thinking. The UMNO MP who said it, said what UMNO thinks in private but doesn’t have the testicular fortitude to say it out in the open.
The writer is a former UMNO state assemblyman but joined DAP earlier this year. He is a FMT columnist.
I felt that Sak has gone into an extreme optimistic mood. Hey hey hey! Pap has swept into power in 1959 due to unexpected incompetence by 2 Singapore chief ministers. An idealist Jew & a born again Muslim who found himself wandering in Australia. If only this muslim not stupid enough to sell away Christmas island at cheap price to australia. Some Singaporeans may migrate there for the rustic kampung
Nah! It’s time not to complacent. Focus to ahem ahem those sons of bitch. Where the hell is George Patton
Interesting but it is too speculative. It is not going to be a walkover for Pakatan Rakyat. The government in power enjoys the advantages of incumbency and that can be quite a considerable advantage. So you cannot be sure until the last voter has cast his vote.–Din Merican
New team in Putrajaya?? What crap ! You gotta be naive to think UMNO will let this happen. You are more likely to get shot by NYPD in the streets of New York.
So you cannot be sure until the last voter has cast his vote.– Din Merican
I’m sorry Dato. But I do not share the trust and the confidence you appear to have in the integrity of the political process in Malaysia. Like I said before and I say again, “It ain’t gonna happen”.
until the last voter has cast his vote.–Din Merican
or until the last postal vote box find its way in to be counted. BN will use every tool in its box to win this election. The writer is dreaming of an election free of voter fraud, free of tricks and treachery and free from deceit and cheating.
Yes, just like how you predict BN might be losing seats, the same could as well be said about PR losing seats on their side. Selangor and Kedah will pretty much be up for grabs again with PR’s poor performance there, DAP may still retain Penang, so it PAS with Kelantan. Perak and Terengganu on other other hand might be swing states. Sabah and Sarawak will still continue on being BN’s safe deposit despite PR making inroads, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Pahang will still be BN’s strong state.
Just like how no one could have predicted that massive PR-tsunami back in 2008, so is the upcoming PRU.
Every tool? Yup, started sometime ago. Can be tiring for the afflicted.
Overuse and poor maintenance is causing some bother. That’s why Octo and deputy are in a hurry, before the whole machinery grinds to a halt and kaput.
SAK’s recent piece on FGVH listing deserves a second look, as a lot of war funds are being generated outta thin air. Replenishing the funds ain’t as easy nowadays, thus the wholesale corporatized rape.
In case of a close result I still think a coalition arrangement will be a good idea not least to allow the political temperature to come down.
It will also be a much more representative government than a “winner-take-all” one.
Din I think he is right.Najib knows,Mahathir knows and Daim knows that BN can safely secure 80 seats. The balance 50:50
Mahathir is a bit panic when he knows the fig but Daim said I have nothing in Malaysia.
Not that easy for PKR to move in Putrajaya, not like changing government in Australia or UK.They will use the Army or the Police to block the move or spend the money buy the Opposition MPs.
Clf,
Octo = mahathir? If yes, which deputies? Be specify la! Is it anwar? No fun if the other gcmg not here. Watch the battle of titans. Where the hell my popcorn is? Hahaha!
Isa,
I have had enough of another bn. All parties must be on equal footing. No taiko in the firm of umno, pkr, pas. Anwar if become pm should be a ring leader. Not an elected dictator.
Or you fancy northern Ireland style where Sinn fein & unionist have a share in excos. Take note that first minister & deputy first minister have same amount of power. You might say in the modern world, few regions or countries got 2 leaders with same power. The other one I know of is Andorra. It’s shared between president of France & archbishop of Spain
Din should know dual pmship ended up a disaster in Cambodia. Sihanouk was shipped out of country.
Army? Police? Also half-half, i would say. But I don’t we could do a Syria over here.
The rest of the Service, will fall in line with their respective heads except the truly BTN’ed PTDs. Again half-half. A lot of heads will roll either way, but the KSN may be the first to bite the dust – but then he’s an opportunistic bolehlander. The Judiciary is more worrying.
Buying MPs is near impossible nowadays, in which case would impact PKR>DAP> PAS, in that order. But the game is fluid and PR can do the same – not with monetary but other substantive rewards. Whatever the blowjob is, Jibs is a goner.
I hope it is old wine in new bottle. I wish you luck.
Listen guys, what Dato Sak is saying is confident building, when you say it most times,it’ll sink thru to the fence sitters,no doubt that Umno/Bn will use all dirty tactics that they can conjure, like I always tell my friends,” Berangan is Free”,but you will never know, deep in my heart,I know PR will win,but by how much is anybody’s guess.Don’t worry Dato Sak,most Malaysians are with you,if not in spirit,it’ll be in their Berangan.Umno/Bn as a dog has it’s days, now it’s the people’s turn.Don’t be dishearten Dato Sak from comments that are pessimistic. They have their right to voice it out, just brush it aside, coz most think that they know better.
Repressive governments that have lost their legitimacy in the eyes of the vast majority of its citizens can collapse faster than you think, e.g. Eastern European communist police states (when it became clear that Gorbachev would not intervene militarily), apartheid regime in South Africa (when
economic sanctions began to bite badly), Marcos’ regime (when the soldiers were blocked by People Power, USA withdrew its support for him, and Juan Ponce Enrile and General Fidel Ramos defected).
The smart UMNO-BN guys are jumping, to clean their image and to escape serious post-regime change punishment. Only the foolish or the massively corrupt would stay with the sinking ship to the end.
(Even Bashar Al-Assad’s PM has jumped to the side of the Free Syrian Army!)
One more comment: an Election can be stolen. But what if
an awakened and truly upset citizenry refuses to accept it? Like in 1986 in the Philippines?
And nowadays, illegitimate military regimes and their coup d’ etat leaders can also be ousted by pressure from foreign governments and the international community. Think of West Africa, for example.
One more comment: an Election can be stolen. But what if an awakened and truly upset citizenry refuses to accept it?
Then they’ll do the Perak manouver. Unlike the Philippines the Perakians are deprived of their legitimately elected government by working Istana Bukit Chandan. At the Federal level they’ll do the New Istana Negara manouver.

UMNO-BN’s rallying cry for GE-13 is menang tetap menang. All these news about defections to Pakatan Rakyat in Sabah and Sarawak are by people who will not be able to stand under UMNO-BN ticket in GE-13.They hope to win under Pakatan and then sell out for loads of cash. Sorry if I sound cynical but that is East Malaysian politics.—Din Merican
There’s no harm dreaming. Dreams do materialize sometimes. I am with SAK. If it happens or should it happen we’ll be in for a treat. Get your pop corns ready.
If they answer not your call, walk alone.
If they are afraid and cower mutely facing walls,
O thou of evil luck,
Open thy mind and speak out alone.
If they turn away and desert you when crossing the wilderness,
O thou of evil luck,
Trample the thorns under thy tread,
And along the blood-lined track travel alone
If they do not hold up the light when the night is troubled by storm,
O thou of evil luck,
With the thunder-flame of pain ignite thine own heart
And let it burn alone.
- Rabindranath Tagore
We in Malaysia are past that Tagorean stage now. People are in ferment. The impending GE13 may be the dirtiest campaign and the results may well be distorted, but the people will no longer walk alone.
The people are in ferment. Bersih 3.0, specifically Najib’s ill-advised response to Bersih 3.0 on April 28 and the subsequent antics ostensibly coming with the tacit blessing of the powers-that-be, were the turning point.
On April 28, Malaysians were shown the iron fist of naked power, were subjected to the enhanced tear gas and laced chemical water canons, instead of the velvet glove, the abiding power of love.
Malaysians are in ferment.
We in Malaysia are living in interesting times, in dangerous times and the winds of change is a-blowing. What the future portends is potent with change. Malaysians like the bullied Ambiga Sreenevasan will no longer walk alone.
Malaysians have regained their courage after years of bullying. Can they summon the collective wisdom to envelope that collective courage?
Datuk Sak, only time will tell, only time will tell.
Time for an anti-hopping legislation.
Phua,
You have forgotten few parts. Troops rebelled against Marcos stuck up in the building. Cory rally people for support. Finally Fidel Ramos came for the rescue.
Perhaps, we should ask CLF if there is any Fidel Ramos in the midst in Malaysia
“..win under Pakatan and then sell out for loads of cash.”
Perhaps. Consensual rape like what happened to PBS or not, i don’t know. The Feds nearly killed them off by slow strangulation. But that was during Octo-Anwar’s duality.
I think it won’t be so easy nowadays. 2 decades ago, they could b.s. like crazy and stuff a roll of cash under the tuai kampong/longhouse. Nowadays with all the vitriol being spewed left, right and center, the KDM (Kadazan-Murut) ain’t as gullible. It’s also a wise move by PR, not to induct these potential amphibians into their fold and let the Sabahans fight for themselves. The Chinese over there are as recalcitrant as in the Peninsula. Divide and rule methods do not work as well over there. There is a whole generation of disenfranchised youth with little to do, than cause mischief. The ‘Allah’ issue impacts them, as their youngsters working in the Peninsula are mightily pissed. Money can’t mollify issues like that.
The weight of glory as Hanggun-Siou should now pass from Joseph Pairin to someone else, not necessarily his constipated brother who seems to be perpetually chasing his own tail. Now that fella is what i would call a ‘dangerous’ amhipod.
Same scenario in Sarawak, although PBB’s wealthy beyond all probability – maybe more so than UMNO. That’s the natural price for ‘progress’. SAPP is dead in water and there’s serious infighting within the lesser parties. No joy for UMNO, either. Pek Moh might even cut a deal with Anwar, seeing his distrust and antipathy towards Jibs.
And in the meantime cousin Kerismuddin is making a fool of himself boasting how well he has “managed” the situations in Malaysia… go enjoy your lambchop lah…
The way I look at it, it is a good chance PR will wrest Putrajaya come GE13 but I am also mentally prepared to see a short period of upheaval and trouble because UMNO/BN will not surrender / handover power than easily…
Deep inside me I know there will emerge a Fidel Ramos from within the armed forces and there will be a white knight who will appear and put us all back into the road to peace and development and some sanity in life… and reduce crime rate too!
And jail some of those who have robbed and wronged the people for so long!
Phua Kai Lit,
You must be daydreaming if you think ‘ a coup’ of sort will occurred. What business has foreign power to mess with this country peaceful loving people. The truth is the majority Malays will throw their support behind Najib whatever it takes. As the saying goes, when the goings get tough the toughs will get going. Moreover the solid, toughened and battle hardened Armned Forces especially the Royal Malay Regiment is a no nonsense army battalion to curb any eventualities as proven during May13. So what rubbish are you saying about foreign forces??…or perhaps your wish they step on our shores??..That will be over many dead bodies I believe.
The geopolitical situation in Arab countries are totally different from Malaysia. The population are 100% Arabs, and ruled by Army dictators without any election whatsoever for the past 10 to 20 years. Of course any changes were much easier there compared to our multi-racial, religion and culture.
So you Mr. Phua, take a deep breath and ponder again some of your thought…!!
Dear “Ahmad”
Are you aware of the differences between (1) a coup d’etat to prevent a legitimately elected government from taking power (or continuing in power),
(2) non-military foreign intervention (diplomatic pressure, economic sanctions) to force coup leaders out of power and (3) outright foreign military intervention by big powers to remove unfavoured govts?
Examples of (1) : Fiji recently and Salvador Allende’s Chile in 1973
Examples of (2) — military coup leaders forced out by foreign diplomatic pressure, economic sanctions etc. This is increasingly the norm in international relations nowadays.
Examples of (3) — Gaddhafi’s Libya recently
