2012 Merdeka Theme Song: Vulgar Propaganda

by Aidila Razak@http://www.malaysiakini.com

Already facing criticism from the industry over its logo, the 55th National Day’s theme song, too, has left many cringing.

Yes, CLF , Hosanna is better:

For Buddhi Hekayat, who penned the award-winning song Awan Nano, the National Day theme song has the hallmarks of “vulgar propaganda”.

“The words may be polite but it is just that. It does not reflect nationhood and the meaning of independence, but is a song to showcase a ruling government,” he said.

He added that the line “janji sudah ditepati, kini masa balas budi” (Promises have been fulfilled, now it’s time to pay return the good deeds), is like “holding a knife to the rakyat’s neck”.

“Many people would say I’m saying this because I’m a PKR member and all that, but truly, I’d say the same if Pakatan Rakyat did this,” said the Parit Sulong PKR division chief, whose real name is Hasmi Hashim.

Malaysiakini received a CD with the song and lyrics during the launch of the National Day theme at Brickfields earlier this month.

The lyrics were written by Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim while the melody is by Aye, Jasnie and Arman E six.

Buddhi, who commented without knowing the lyricist’s identity, said that the minister who wrote the song failed to differentiate between the concept of nationhood and government policy.

This, he said, is exemplified by the focus on things like Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia and Klinik 1Malaysia.

He added that propaganda songs need not be trite, and can be powerful even in simplicity like the song Anak Kecil Main Api – a song used by National Civics Bureau (BTN).

“It doesn’t come anywhere close to songs like the Indonesian patriotic song Gugur Bunga, which was penned to commemorate independence.

“This theme song is transient, it has no longevity which to me is a real shame,” he said.

‘A political campaign’

Agreeing with him, Bob Lokman, who wrote the lyrics for the hit 80s rock ballad Isabella, said that the National Day theme song “sounded cheap”.

“There is no depth in the words, no poetry nor is there any sense of patriotism. Patriotic songs are supposed to move the people, not teach them how to brown-nose,” said the PAS member.

“The song is telling people they have no choice but to support the ruling government. It is a political campaign and not a National Day song.”

Bob (right) added that the melody of the song, too, did little to boost the song and the rap interlude was unsuitable to invoke feelings of nationhood.

“I believe they intended the rap part to keep up with trends, but when Lionel Richie wrote We Are The World, rock was all the rage and he bucked the trend and that song is still sung today,” he said.

When informed that the lyricist is Rais, the duo said that it would have been better to have left the job to a professional lyricist.

“It’s true that everyone has the right to write, but there must be some respect. You don’t see Ministers trying to be doctors,” Buddhi said.

Malaysiakini had also approached other professional and prominent lyricists who were not members of any political party on the matter, but they declined to comment.

The National Day theme Janji Ditepati has been under fire by the Opposition, as it is also the name of a campaign by the BN which was launched months earlier.

Rais, however, defended the theme by saying: “Malaysia has truly arrived as an achieving nation after 55 years of independence. Why can’t we say ‘Janji Ditepati’?”

The Minister did not respond to the portal’s call, mobile text message and tweet on the lyrics of the song.

Pemimpin BN perlu sedar rakyat berhak berbuat demikian, bukan kerana rakyat tidak petriotik, tetapi sikap pemimpin BN menyebabkan rakyat bertindak demikian. — harakahdaily.net

All I can say is this: Cry Desperado. The end is near for Najeeber Singh. What do you think, Orang Malaya?

  2. This fella, Rais Yatim, is the Numero Uno kaki bodek. Once he kissed the hand of that stupid Prime Minister Badawi. Now he must be licking Najib’s cojones. How ridiculous can one get! Cheap and desperate act. It is past due time to throw UMNO-BN out of Putrajaya.

  3. ya, thats vulgar. out of curiousity: what are those the madames hold in their hands, from afar they look like packets of Tongkat Ali?
a minister should not neglect his ministerial duties and write songs, we don’t pay him for that!

  4. FOLKS WHAT DO YOU REALLY EXPECT FROM A HALF-PAST-SIX FELLA LEADING THE MINISTRY?

All the time is spent on propping himself (wife too) and the boss up to look GOOD!
He is just another PR guy working for money by Bodeking BOSS!
He talks as though he is a philosopher and thinks that all others are Bloody Fools like HIM!

Lets make sure he got no more bridges to BURN after this!
Becos he need them no more!

We shall see him put where he is supposed to be rightfully!
The right Place & at the right TIME!

  5. UMNO-BN…. absolutely pathetic.

Never realised that this UMNO-BN Govt is in EXTREME DESPERATION to maintain power, even to a point of insulting the intelligence of ordinary Malaysians.
Rais Yatim, as Minister of Information, thinks Malaysians are fools and idiots to believe the crap he composed for the lyrics of this FORGETTABLE theme song.

It is getting so embarrassing that the antics of this UMNO-BN Govt makes the North Korea regime’s political propaganda looks tame. It makes Robert Mugabe looks like a statesman.

You got to be ashamed to be a Malaysian trying to celebrate Merdeka in 2012 with this piece musical crap and the logo..

Najib should sack his intellectually degenerated Information Minister for this scandalous attempt to make Malaysians as brainless idiots to accept this piece of musical crap as our national theme song.

  6. If you throw BN out by the back door, it will find a way to come in through the window. You Gurubachan will get plugged from behind and given a piece of your own medicine.

  7. I first met Randy Rais as an undergrad when he was doing his law at SU and I was at MU doing economics. In 1968 he was an ex-school teacher and a ladies’ man with a used MGB-GT prowling Dunearn Road Hoster in SU for victims. He ferried me and another guy to the legendary Bugis Street in the late night hours to observe first hand how business was done – just like Dato here had his first test of his entrepreneural skills early in life parking bicycles around Wat Siam which by the way served him well over the years.

  8. Make no mistake about it. Randy Rais is a ladies’ man. Licking hands come naturally to him. Except this time it was Dollah’s hand. And not that of University of Singapore Freshie Queen. Poor Randy. He’s up to his old tricks again.

  9. On a more serious note. It is disgusting to watch the country’s Prime Minister campaigning using taxpayers money. He does it because he can – and I find this disgusting. It is even more so when people are being paraded out and you are forced to see a sea of smiling faces holding up what here would be Food Stamps. This is the working of an entitlement culture at its best.

I have no doubt that BN better prepared this time round will win the GE-13. For there to be ‘change’ it has to come from the Malays and until the Malays are prepared to make the change, there will be no ‘change’. They are able but not willing.

When the dust of the election campaign settles down, when the slogan shouting is over, these criminals will return to their full time job of lining their pockets with lucrative contracts and cash cows to milk. It is a new twist to Obama’s ‘spreading the wealth a little bit’ – except in this case it is among the wealthy and politically connected.

Ordinary Malays have been had. Except they don’t know it yet.

  10. Don’t just blame Rais Yatim. The whole damn Cabinet must take the blame for this scandalous Merdeka theme song.

It definitely has to be approved by Najib and the Cabinet.

Rais Yatim is just a patsy with a directive to come up with something dramatic to shore up UMNO-BN’s polling popularity.

Instead he uses his Ph,D ( definitely not a fake degree) come up with this musical crap and thereby he further confirms what most Malaysians already know, to rest of the world that his Ph. D was a rare mistake made by the University which awarded him.

This guy who once claimed ” I am in the mode” to a reporter, simply has lost all his substance between his ears. He now runs the Information Ministry with a vacuum between his ears.

  11. U.S. President Obama has been dubbed the first U.S. ‘Food Stamp’ President by his political rivals, red necks and T-party members. Najib, on the other hand, deserves to be called Malaysia’s first ‘Baucar’ Prime Minister.

  12. Here you get to hear from Najib himself who apparently is full of praise for Namewee, someone he says works to support 1Malaysia in his own way. But Dato Din Merican has worked tirelessly for an open and just society. Should he not deserve some praise too? At least a mention, a footnote somewhere?

  13. No wonder the lyrics are so atrocious. Rais Yatim. That explains a lot. Vulgar propaganda by vulgar people. If PR starts doing the same, I’ll vote them out too.

“Malaysia arrived as an achieving nation”? What does that even mean?

I think I’ll be taking a puke now.

  14. “..lyrics of this FORGETTABLE theme song.” Frank

Yup buddy. Mainly because they most likely plagiarized this tune/harmonics from a Hillsong. Change the Hossana to ‘Janji ditepati’ and see what i mean.

  15. Other than cringing listening to the lyrics, I thought this song is more appropriate being sung at some BN convention instead of Hari Merdeka. Somebody should tell Najib that BN doesn’t own Malaysia. Malaysia is owned by Malaysians regardless of their political affinity.

    Janji siapa? Janji kita.
    Janji apa? Janji 1Malaysia.

Who’s” kita”? What the heck is “janji 1Malaysia”?

From the musical point of view, this song is so horrible. Cheesy melody and cheesy lyrics. I can’t bring myself to watch even half of the video.

This song has stupid lyrics but at least the girl has the decency to have nice, catchy tune to come with it.

  16. And just why do they need to show a rural folk holding his huge RM50 Baucar? This is really stupid, and I mean stupid. For God’s sake its Merdeka lah, its Independence Day, its nation-building lah Rais, it should be about patriotism and loyalty development adoi bangang betul budak Jelebu ni…

  17. “Mr Bean, which Muslim church are you with ? If not, which Christian mosque you attend? I like to attend too” — ol’ frank

Huh?? Please direct that question to our bloghost. He has “Hossana The Highest” up there. I have mine down here !!

Over here it is Tuhan Allah and Tuhan Jesus – the Holy Trinity in bahasa. No moral police after anybody’s tail for entering the ‘wrong’ place of worship. You’re welcome to join.

  18. I pray for my Malay Christian brothers and sisters in Malaysia. Open up your eyes and break free from the chains that bind your feet. And to then take a deep breath for there is nothing better than the sweet smell of freedom that awaits you!

  19. Hey frank, iread about a women who is a priest and an imam at the same time . So she does both duties at different times. So there.

  20. – @ Mr Bean.

The ones who feel entitled do not even understand this Mr Bean. That is why they take and take and take and take whats belongs to the people. This is the ‘mabuk” ( intoxication) spoken about in our Koran. MABUK KUASA ( intoxicated by power) . Drinking wine only hurts your own kidney but this mabuk hurts every one. See the difference ? you who call yourselves ‘moslem’. You are DELIBERATELY hurting your own vulnerable people and for that you SHALL pay.

  21. ‘so there’ wasnt for you , frank. it was for thsoe moslems who force others to do it their way and no other way. Well there are different ways in life and only our Creator can make the Judgement.

  22. i am fond of making repititions, pl excuse me : They are Slimy Slithering Sleuths….no wonder slimy salamanders survived for melliniums….but NEVER evolved…..

This one ? Truly Vulagarity at its highest….no wonder some of our younger generations are practising plagerism, to have an easy way out in life….go boot-licking everywhere, and obtain quick wealth…

Not only in terms of riches, but also honours & Titles – but pathetic, so artificial & Fake ! Like that Scoundrel who labelled people not joining the military as disloyal ( loyalty as the last Refuge of the Scoundrel – wonder HOW he became a DR ? ). LIKE also the Transhit-ship flur Dr in the Never-land of fame & glory, to be associated with Malaysia;s Disneyland fame…..

No, not trying to express Disgust….but sometimes i am bemused with Vulgarity…..in Malaysia of course…

  23. if it true that dr. bodek wrote this 1malaya song..then this dato dr. bodek is the champion of everything la..from bakar jambatan specialist to ‘wrote 1malaya lyric la…samdol punya dato dr. bodek???

  24. This song by Dr Rais Yatim suggests that the people of Malaysia should be beholden to the government for all the government has done for them. It seeks payback from the people. In all, from this song,

I can gather from the song’s espousal is Malaysia is not a democracy where people elect the government. The song tells us Malaysia has a feudal govenrment where the government expects the citizens to accept the fact all the resources belonged to the ruling class, and anything that the ruling class expends to help develop the country must be paid back.

This song is trying to brainwash the people of Malaysia.

Malaysians must not forget that the present government was voted in by the people, and all the resources belong to the people. They do not belong the the party-in-power. In other words, the citizens is the BOSS. Parliament is where the people of Malaysia exercise their rights to set the national agenda for the government.

The next GE is where the people decide on which contractor [ the choice is between BN and Pakatan] to relegate the management of the country to. That is why the government is called the “Executive”, and in this case, the prime minister would be the “CEO”.

I hope Dr Rais Yatim in all his grand standing has not forgotten this. Using govermental resources for party purposes is a serious case of mismanagement.

  25. it is Tuhan Allah and Tuhan Jesus – the Holy Trinity in bahasa.- Mr Bean

Its only two. Where is the third one in Bahasa.? Hantu Suci? No?

  26. Hey frank, iread about a women who is a priest and an imam at the same time . – Kathy

You should read on the Origins of Religion and the rise of human civilsation.

Do you know that mankind’s first concept of Divinity is a FEMALE. Among the first known was SOPHIA.

The Catholics, being the first to organise Christianity into a bureaucracy following the Roman Empire’s set up had to walk a fine line between early pagan beliefs of worshiping a Female Divinity and the person called Jesus. So they elevated Mother Mary to be more if not equal to her very gifted Son.

In the early days of development of the human consciousness of how to deal with the unknown, our ancestors, after coming down from the trees in the jungles of Africa, saw the wonder of rejuvenation of life around them… and they discovered that the nurturing of life and the rejuvenation of life is in the FEMALE equation while the MALE equation is more of a destructive force. They saw the SUN as the source of rejuvenation, and worship it. It was in human consciousness that the earth is MOTHER EARTH, never a Father Earth.

If you look at the animal kingdom, the female chooses the direction of the line of the next generation. The lioness in the cat kingdom for example.

Male dominated and chauvinistic history destroyed this human legacy of the FEMALE as the primary force in maintaining the survival of the human species and replace with their version of divinity.

It is the INSECURITY of the MALE genes that forced Males to use their brute force to suppress and lower the importance of females in the development of human society.

Modern day religons made it worse by trying to erase this memory of human consciousness of the vital role of the FEMALE in human destiny. Islam, Christianity, Hinduism etc are the main culprits. Even that atheistic Buddhism is doing the same thing.

I say, WOMEN OF THE WORLD, RISE UP AND REVOLT AGAINST THIS DESTRUCTIVE MALE DOMINATION.

Start by walking away from all these ANTI-FEMALE RELIGIONS you all have been hoodwinked and cheated to believe in by your HUSBANDS, BOYFRIENDS and your MALE COUNTERPARTS.

RISE UP , MY SISTERS OF THE WORLD, AGAINST THESE MALE CHAUVINIST PIGS… RESTART THE belief in the divinity of an OLD FORGOTTEN Friend in the Sky who is a Female and who is called SOPHIA. Recite HER greatness by replacing with these words,

” OUR MOTHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME, THY KINGDOM COME……blah blah blah”.

Eat your heart out, all of you Male Chauvinist Pigs

  27. Roh Kudus, Frank. Indonesian and Malay Christians will take exception to your translation, and probably regard as a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Not good. Not that they’d crucify you.

Bean enjoys modern worship songs. I’m partial to ridiculously tongue twisting wordy ‘traditional’ hymns, but there are nice hill-songs too.
Happy clappy stuff i don’t mind, once in a while. The point is that the Goons have taken charismatic, contemporary music to new lows.

  28. ….and by the way, I still believe the Minangkabaus got it right all along when they place the FEMALE as the right heir of inheritance of more important things in life, ie property and land, passing down from mother to daughter, NOT to the stupid male heirs who were, luckily, given a LESS RISKY task of looking after RELIGION and POLITICAL affairs of the family.

I would have like the Minangkabaus to take away the responsibility on relgion from the Males and give it to the Female family members. Then we will have less of the shitty nonsense we get today in the country with idiots in Jakim making fools of themselves and of Islam. At the core, Islam places women on EQUAL footing as the male. But those insecured Muftis cherry picked the verses in the Quran to fit into their MCP egos.

  29. Ahhh!!, the bloghost censored my much early posting, a prelude to the above poting…. perhaps it touched on the Evidence Act or ISA.

  30. Sorry Frank. I don’t pray in bahasa. I believe it is ‘roh kudus’ in bahasa Indonesia. ‘Hantu’ translates to ghost. And that is an entirely different ball game.

Malays pray to ‘hantu’ in Chinese cemeteries for ‘numbers’ so they could strike lotteries.

  31. “The ones who feel entitled do not even understand this Mr Bean. That is why they take and take and take and take whats belongs to the people.” — Kathy

Can you blame them? After decades of having to put up with the same garbage from criminals who make a living out of messing with their heads? They can’t even begin to understand what ‘entitlement culture’ is all about. Government hand outs are what give rise to it. They are the cause and not the effect.

They believe in having a ‘free lunch’ when we know there is no such thing as a ‘free lunch’. Somebody is always made to pay for it. And in this case it is their children and their children’s children.

  32. “Bean enjoys modern worship songs. I’m partial to ridiculously tongue twisting wordy ‘traditional’ hymns” — CLF

So you’re a Pentecost and enjoys speaking in tongue. Kathy will no doubt tell you that Sir Lancelot is a modern day Pentecost. Much to the envy of ol’ frank who took too long horning his speaking in tongue skills as an undergrad in the late ’60s. Today grandma Hyacinth Goddard is a constant reminder to ol’ frank of what he missed out. There is no fury like ol’ frank scorned. Since then ol’ frank has been vacillating from being an atheist and an agnostic.

  33. Yes i agree with you frank,> The relationship of the feminine with God is a sacred one ,v ery special and sacred. They have no clue. That is why I believe that change willc ome via the women this time around. Yes , eat your heart out you male cahuvinist pigs.

  34. Roh Kudus, Frank. Indonesian and Malay Christians will take exception to your translation, and probably regard as a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Not good. Not that they’d crucify you.- C.L. Familiaris

My apologies to those Indonesian Christians. I need to brush up my Indonesian Bahasa. OK Roh Kudus. Thanks. I learnt a new phrase today.

BTW, there are NO Malay Christians in Malaysia. If there are, that religious bigot Hasan Ali and those chaps in Jakim will be hunting me down for evidence or I go to those Rehabilitation Centres to be cleansed.

It is against the Constitution to say “Malay Christians” in Malaysia. You can be charged under ISA. A Malay is DEFINED a Muslim. So if a “Malay” is a Christian, he is NO MORE a Malay. He is a classified foreigner like those illegal immigrants who get overnight citizenships.

A “Malay Christian” legally does not exist and that person under the Federal Constitution is NOT ALLOWED TO EXIST AT ALL. If you don’t believe me, ask Hasan Ali.

Only one problem, if a Malay is a Christian, can he be called a Chinese or an Indian. After all, that formerly pork-eating slit-eyed Ridhuan Tee when he converted to be a Muslim, says he is now part of the Malay race.

  35. Good grief! This posting is going awry. Frank has gone on an orgy!
Just an aside, i ain’t Pentecostal. Otherwise i’d be tongue lashed to death..
The Catholics have contemporary music too although they would be aghast at this UMNO hillsong, like all true-blue Mainline Protestants. But i’ve to admit that i’ve have taken the Catholic and Orthodox Eucharist (yeah, not supposed to.., but i don’t discriminate, and didn’t spit it out.

  36. I’m pretty sure that Dr. Rais has billed the taxpayers for writting the lyrics to that song. half a million?

”Modern day religons made it worse by trying to erase this memory of human consciousness of the vital role of the FEMALE in human destiny. Islam, Christianity, Hinduism etc are the main culprits. Even that atheistic Buddhism is doing the same thing”. – Frank

please call that ”male chauvinism” Frank, nothing to do with religion. as we have recently discussed in this blog, religion is in our minds.
religion should be kept in its place and not allowed to dictate us everything.

its nice to see that even the London Olympics 2012 has gone pro – women, respect for the English ladies for starting the first movement against male dominance (womens rights) in the world. bravo

  37. Watch out who you’re calling MCP. That old goat Hanif Omar may sit up and take notice of this blog and put his running dogs on Dato’s tail. You don’t want that to happen to our bloghost.

  38. Watch out who you’re calling MCP. That old goat Hanif Omar may sit up and take notice of this blog – Mr Bean

My apologies to Hanif Omar and his colleagues in Bukit Aman. I didn’t know that the term MCP was a monopoly of Hanif Omar and his senior colleagues. Perhaps I should have referred MCP as Malaysian Chief of Police. I thought Chin Peng should be upset too, MCP=Malayan Communist Party.

Any way, MCP= Malaysian Chief of Police=Malayan Communist Party=Male Chauvinist Pigs= Malay Christian Party.

  39. please call that ”male chauvinism” Frank, nothing to do with religion- reeperbahn

Unfortunately, the truth is, it has to do everything with RELIGION. Religion reinforces the INSECURITY of the Male Genes.

  40. According to some pastors in Malaysia and visiting pastors there are many Malays who are Christians who practice their religion on the quiet. You don’t see them in churches but in tight knit groups having prayer sessions in private. My heart goes out to them.

Article 160(2) of the Federal Constitution has been used to legally deem all those who speak Malay and habitually follow Malay customs and profess the Muslim religion as Malay. And so, according to the old goat Mahathir, if a Malay were to be anything but a Muslim, he would have to give his or her Malay special privileges. He says not only are they no longer eligible but would have to pay back all loans, scholarships. surrender their licenses and contracts etc awarded to them.

Malaysia is the only country in the world that legally deems its citizens as belonging to a particular religion.

  41. No Malay Christians? But there are! The still wear sarongs and speak in that ethno-linguistic tongue called Malay. Ask that Hassan Ali flur – the one with solar powered Bibles. Definitely a rapacious, conniving evil to have invented the solar cell – Einstein’s fault!

So, they’d have to call themselves “Other (Bumiputera)”, which would be totally alien? Certainly won’t be classified under Kadazan-Dusun or Dayak-Iban etc. When will enlightenment come? As soon as people don’t resort to a god of Divine Rape.

  42. Good grief! This posting is going awry. – C.L. Familiaris

No, not at all. This is to emphasise the fact that our Information Minister is an intellectual mutant, and somehow, his religion seems to run away from him which result in his low IQ behaviour in recent times despite having a Ph.D

  43. these buggers are smart and they know that religion is useful for them.
religion is the tool used by the male chauvinist to elevate himself above the vulgar crowd.
it is always the stupid asses who incapable of earning a living by doing something useful go into the business of religion and distort religion to their advantage.
the religious books are documentation of past experiences of people who wanted to do good for the public and have not the purpose of putting shackles and chains on your hands feet but to guide you through life. therefore those who read these books and understand them properly remain immune to the unholy propaganda from deviant religious men and politicians.

there are a couple of commentators on this blog of various religions who share their thoughts and doubts via comments with us like CLF, Mr. Bean and Abnizar. their religious affiliations, being immaterial, their religious philosophy exposes the virtue/goodness of religion.

  44. Yang Berhormat Menteri,

I will agree with you that ” Janji Ditepati” when the The Senior Civil Servants are ready to say that they are prepared to work with you but not for you.

  45. I prefer the lyrics for the Merdeka 55 theme song on THIS ONE (READ HERE)

The lyrics are much better than the one composed by that intellectually dwarfed Information Minister.

The lyrics are in Bahasa. Any of you don’t understand what the lyrics are all about, shame on you…. you should consider yourself constitutionally Malay-Christians, and banished from Malaysia

  46. No Malay Christians? But there are! – C.L. Familiaris.

No.. they are NOT supposed to exist, and LEGALLY they are non-existent. Read the Constitution which your forefathers agreed collectively that Malay-Christians are NOT allowed to exist in Malaysia.

If there are Malay-Christians, they are hantus… they exist in the dark, unheard, unseen and always undercover. To find them, need to call in Malay-Christian Ghost Buster, Hasan Ali….Listen to Hasan Ali’s Theme Song when he goes out hunting for Malay=Christians with a video-camera.

  47. …they’d have to call themselves “Other (Bumiputera)”- CL Familiaris

Not recognised… either you are a Bumiputera or you are NOT. No in-between like a woman cannot be half-pregnant.

“Other Bumiputera” will classified as hantus.

  48. …there are many Malays who are Christians who practice their religion on the quiet- Mr Bean

That is very sad. Their only hope is to amend the Constitution to remove that quirky definition of a Malay, ie take out the religion part of the definition and leave the rest alone. Until such time, they are not allowed to exist and the Hasan Ali the Ghost Buster will always be on their tails.

My advice for these people is if they want to go the “Christian” Heaven, it is best they migrate out. That is the only hope they can be SAVED by the Redeemer.

I agree, Malaysia is the only country where you are a Malay BECAUSE of the Constitution.

In other countries, your NATIONALITY is defined by the Constitution, not your race.

For that, say thanks to your fore-fathers who allowed the precursor of the UMNO-BN (ie the Alliance) to put that definition of a RACE in the Constitution.

I doubt Pakatan Rakyat has the balls to change that…

If I am an ethnic Malay, I would demand the Constitution be amended so that a false-malay like Ridhuan Tee will denied from getting all those NEP privileges which should go to the real kampung pakcik and makcik in the rural malay heartland.

  49. Frank,

Any policy that discriminates for whatever reason is morally wrong and indefensible. Hence, it must pass strict scrutiny. There must be compelling state interest that needs advancing. And so over here affirmative action programs in colleges, for example, can pass constitutional muster only if it is to rectify some wrong, and there must be a record of past practices that need correction.

I have seen the pain and suffering of ordinary people working to survive, to make ends meet, to raise families and I cannot find any justification certainly not on moral grounds to have laws that discriminate to give unfair advantage to some certainly not on race. It is just morally wrong.
