In this lecture, Professor Tariq Ramadan explores the need for a new vision of Islamic reform. He reflects on the challenges faced by Muslims in the 21st century, living in a complex globalized world, and how we are to appreciate the sources of Muslim tradition and intellectual history in a new light while engaging with other traditions of thought and morality. In the current state of affairs, Muslims must proceed with a new and inclusive understanding of democracy and social justice that takes into account the past and present without compromising either one.

“The problem with Muslims is charismatic leaders. Charisma is problematic. Are you seeking knowledge to be closer to the scholar, to achieve a rank like him, or is it to be closer to God? Don’t worship knowledge, know your goal.” (c) Tariq Ramadan
Kathy, in the Arabic language of the Revelation – not easy though – it is like the parable of the Pearl-diver, who with all his might & determination will dare to dive deep into the deepest of the ocean-floor to reach the Marianas Trench in the Pacific – then to retrieve the treasure lying hidden.
Let me translate it in the Malay language : ” Tuhan, jauh Nya tiada Perantara’an, dan dekat Nya tiada sempadan…..”
In the Scientific quests, scientists are probing into this Physical universe and trying to understand the Transcendent nature of this Supremely Intelliigent Force that governs the Living universe in all its Manifested forms : but the Immanent nature of His Being, the Absolute, is lying hidden from the view of men……
Just this two, and i would end further contemplations :
1. ” Lo & behold….I am the Hidden treasure, and wish to be Known, so I created Creation….”
2. ” I am the outwardly Manifest and the Inwardly Hidden….” – so Seek, not merely read until Kingdom come….
Knowledge must be pursued and practiced with modesty an humility…and leads to beauty and dignity, freedom and justice..
One must fully understand that the main purpose of acquiring
knowledge is to bring us closer to God…It’s not simply for the
gratification of the mind and senses…It isn’t knowledge for the
sake of science for the value of sake…But rather knowledge
accordingly should and must be linked to core values and goals
in life…
sorry…..i should have said this :
In His Transcendent nature or Attributes, He is identfied with the physical universe. In His Immanent nature and Attributes, He in is His Glory is removed from the material universe….., that is, both Hidden & Manifest….
