Noam Chomsky–7th Edward Said Memorial Lecture
There will be no entertainment this weekend. In stead, I have chosen to post some serious stuff for our reflection about life and personalities of great intellect.
Here I present to you Noam Chomsky’s Lecture in honour of his friend, and renown public intellectual and scholar, the late Edward Said of Columbia University.–Din Merican

Massive US Troop Movements In California Raise Russian Concerns
Posted by EU Times on Jan 26th, 2012
http://www.eutimes.net/2012/01/massive-us-troop-movements-in-california-raise-russian-concerns/
A disturbing report prepared by the Ministry of Defense circulating in the Kremlin today states that Russian Military Officials were rebuffed by NATO yesterday after questions were raised regarding massive troop and war equipment movements in the United States region of California and said to involve over 78,000 soldiers from various countries.
Reports coming in from the United States verify these extraordinary troop movements are currently underway with videos showing massive amounts of tanks and other war equipment being brought into the California region by train near Santa Cruz [see video HERE] and Morgon Hill [see video HERE] along with reports detailing that areas of Los Angeles were cordoned off this week for secret military exercises.
Important to note, this report says, is that even though Russia had withdrawn in 2007 from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) it was still able to get explanations for the transferring and movement of Western European and American troops from the United Kingdom under a separate agreement, but which was suspended without notice or explanation by the British government this past 25 November 2011.

Here’s another side of the story.

I am not a military expert but shouldn’t the tanks be bearing desert camo if they are heading for Afghanistan ?

No area in Los Angeles have been cordoned off as of 10.30 am Saturday. So please be very careful what you report. Don’t raise false alarm.
The movement you see (the trains) are just equipment being transported. There’s no troop movement. Who is going to man and drive all that equipment? Where are the troops coming from?

Are you shooting down the messenger now?
Did you not follow the second link I posted above ?
Anyway I was hoping to get your take since you are in California that you can also verify that the report about 78,000 troop participation from foreign participation was totally false?
Cheers.

LA Military Exercises
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Joint military training exercises will be held evenings in downtown Los Angeles through Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The LAPD will be providing support for the exercises, which will also be held in other portions of the greater Los Angeles area, police said.

The report above at least confirms that Joint military exercises did take place and my question is what is Obama preparing for ?

George Soros predicts Riots, Police State and Class War for America.
Is George Soros connecting the dots that the Americans are too blind to see ?

No not shooting the messenger but bearer of news must face consquences too.
Joint military exercise are a common occurance. There is no MASSIVE military exercise. These exercise are confined to selected area and carried by a limited number of troops. The LAPD will not allow disruption with massive exercise. The citizens will rise and demand their rights unlike Malaysia where the citizens are docile.
Angelenos are used to these exercise especially in preparation for a major earthquake or other natural disasters. The Radio and TV stations conduct test of the Emergency Broadcast System every week and the public are informed that “This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System” In real emergency the system will be used to inform citizens of the dangers and what action to take.
California National Guard, Army and Marine Bases, Air Force Bases are scattered throughout California. If you drive by Barstow, San Luis Obispo and Camp Pendelton you will see troops and equipment doing exercises daily. These exercises include deployment of troops as well as military hardware. Real live weapons test are however conducted in isolated bases away from public views. One such base is Vandenberg Air Force base.

“No not shooting the messenger but bearer of news must face consequences too.”
Tell that to George Soros who seems to paint a very dim picture of what America is going to be – a police state, to say the least!
“The recent adoption of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 and the proposed Enemy Expatriation Act, if approved, have already very well paved the way for such a society. Under the NDAA, the US government is allowed to indefinitely detain and torture American citizens suspected of terror crimes without ever bringing them to trial. Should lawmakers Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Charles Dent (R-PA) get their Enemy Expatriation Act through Congress, the US will also be able to simply revoke citizenship without trial, essentially removing constitutional rights from anyone deemed a threat.”
Btw, the above reports are all in the public domain. What happens to the so called American freedom of information and the right of your citizens to question and to verify what they read or hear which I had incidentally attempted to do.

I can appreciate your stand. I wouldn’t want Uncle Sam to unceremoniously send any of his “guests” home packing!
ocho onda - January 29, 2012 at 6:12 am
You need to read the full National Defense Authorization Act 2012 in full before arriving at any conclusion. The Act clearly defines who can be arrested i.e. terrorist and those that pose a threat to the United States.
As for “Should lawmakers Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Charles Dent (R-PA) get their Enemy Expatriation Act through Congress, the US will also be able to simply revoke citizenship without trial, essentially removing constitutional rights from anyone deemed a threat.” read it again. Has it been passed? It will not pass. Secondly how would they revoke the citizenship of a US born citizen? Where are they going to send that person to?
Soros is predicting a class war between the have and the have nots and people will take to the streets to demonstrate to Congress to get their point across. It’s the “Occupy” movement where citizens have occupied City Hall, Banks and Financial Institutions to have Congress end predatory acts by financial institutions such as Banks and Mortgage companies. It is happening every day at various locations. In the US the citizens can demonstrate for a variety of reasons. This they call democracy, the ability to have your voice heard and protected by the First Amendments. Soros has other naughty intentions.

It’s 5 am Sunday morning and everything is as usual in LA. No massive troop movement, no large areas blocked off by LAPD for joint exercise. No TV channels have reported any unusual police activities jointly with troops. As usual there the police investigating a murder, accidents on the freeway etc etc.
I will keep you informed from the ground.

” In the US the citizens can demonstrate for a variety of reasons. This they call democracy, the ability to have your voice heard and protected by the First Amendments. Soros has other naughty intentions.”
Have you read through the NDA Act 2012 ? I’m not sure that you had, if so, you may have to reread it.
The NDA 2012 is not about civil liberties. It is not just an anti-terrorist act but a piece of legislation put in place to contain any internal threat to national security, national security meaning government of the day.
Now, you tell me why would the US government put through such an act?
The concern of many Americans is not the Act per se but the contention that the Act not only gives the head of the executive to much autocratic power but it circumvents the rule of the court and places unprecedented power to the military court.
As such US citizens will no longer be protected by nor be able to lay claims of their Constitutional rights. Forget about freedom of speech and the right to bear arms and more. Any one who is deemed a threat will have to deal with the military…..
I would love to get a US constitutional expert’s take on the NDA and its implications
And yes, the NDA is not just for foreign born citizens and “guests” or lawful resident aliens but also includes US born citizens who, ante NDA could expect differential treatment. Not anymore.
Was it Naom Chomsky who talked about protests from the American public over the US government’s order to assassinate Anwar al-Awlaki, a US citizen on foreign land? It could be argued that such a drastic measure was undertaken because there was no way they could capture him alive . So they sent a drone out to eliminate him instead?
The argument was that had the authorities bothered, with its high level intelligence gathering capability, he could have been capture alive and put him away in an outsourced location like Guantanimo where he would not only be presided by a military court but where his constitutional rights would not matter. Guess a rather convenient method was adopted instead to neutralize the threat.
As to whether George Soros have any naughty intentions? Who am I to say and I am not here to defend anyone but this much I can say. He is merely articulating what the American public already sensed in their bones to call a spade a spade which none of the American politikus shysters bar Ron Paul seem capable of doing as it takes honesty and balls to speak the truth!
“Angelenos are used to these exercise especially in preparation for a major earthquake or other natural disasters.”
With more than 130 Bradleys and armed personnel carriers? Purleeeze. You have to do better than that. If you follow the comments of the people in – http://www.eutimes.net/2012/01/massive-us-troop-movements-in-california-raise-russian-concerns/ – the general consensus was that Uncle Sam is either preparing for an internal worst case scenario or an external military adventure. The Americans are not as dumb and clueless as you may want to portray them to be.
“The citizens will rise and demand their rights unlike Malaysia where the citizens are docile.”
That is what I am most concerned about and I sincerely hope will not happen. Whatever happens in your backyard will ultimately affect us across the big pond and whatever happens to the USA and Europe will impact on the rest of the world and vice versa. Peace onto you brother.

Read again my friend. It says coming Thursday.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks for the update.

will keep a look out for any news or TV coverage of the impending massive troop exercise this coming Thursday. The media here is good about informing Angelenos about any event be it a highway closure or police activities to avoid traffic jams or inconvenience to the public. They usually tell us ahead of time to avoid those areas.

That minor event last Wednesday did make it onto the evening news. 5 choppers flying low over LA skyline caused many to complain to the FAA and the local ATC at LAX.
At any given time there are about 7 news helicopters flying all over LA county and if there’s a major accident, fire or high speed chase they will provide live coverage or hover over the site till either they run out of fuel or the crime comes to an end.
LA is always under threat and LAPD together with the LA County Sheriff are always practising such manouvers, but last Wednesday first time the special forces do a joint exercise.
Still no massive troop deployment. Moving the Bradleys APC is normal when troops return or being deployed from either the ports in California or Port Hueneme at Pt Mugu.
