Gwo-Burne Loh on Anwar Ibrahim

January 22, 2012

I met Gwo-Burne Loh and his father Loh Mui Fah some time in December 2007 when I was with PKR, at the time when the existence of the VK.Lingam “Correct, Correct, Correct” video clip was about to be disclosed by Anwar Ibrahim.

The impressionable young man who had returned from China after spending a few years in Beijing was introduced to me by his father who later became my close friend. When Gwo-Burne was nominated to contest the Kelana Jaya Parlimentary seat against MCA’s Dato’ Lee Hwa Beng, my friends and I campaigned hard for him.

No one at the time gave the young and inexperienced Gwo-Burne a chance. He was only known as the dutiful son and cameraman who taped the VK Lingam conversation with the soon to be appointed Lord President/Chief Justice, (Tun) Ahmad Fairuz. But on March 8, 2008, he became the Pakatan Rakyat David who defeated the Barisan Nasional Goliath, and sent Dato’ Lee into political oblivion.

After some initial hiccups, Gwo-Burne turned out to be a very conscientious Member of Parliament for his constituency, and having gone through the rough and tumble of parliamentary politics, he has matured and now at 37+ years of age, he is ready for a bright political future. He is cool, smart and hard working and ready for greater responsibilities.

This article reflects his true feelings about his political mentor, Anwar Ibrahim, not about the Sodomy 2 trial. I thought I should share it with you, my blogger friends and associates. The article by Gwo-Burne confirms why Anwar Ibrahim is a hit with geeks, the not so young, and liberal geezers. –Din Merican

The Remarkable Anwar Ibrahim*

by Gwo-Burne Loh, Kelana Jaya MP

This is not an article about Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial. But in case anyone is interested to hear my two-cents worth on the trial, I have two questions. How many people do we know who have actually been charged with sodomy? And do you think if Dato Seri Anwar will be charged if he were not an opposition leader? My answers are NO.

Furthermore, for those paying attention during the VK Lingam video, would have heard Anwar’s case being mentioned. What does it mean? It means the BN government would go to great length to ascertain that Anwar will be put behind bar until his political carrier expires, if not for his entire life.

On that fateful day Lingam revealed to my father and myself that Mahathir and his political cronies had planned an UMNP led coalition be cemented in power as long as time could be projected, and in the name of Malaysian prosperity and peace, Anwar must be destroyed.

In this conspiracy all sectors of government including the Civil Service, Judiciary, and Police will be under their direct or indirect control and influence! The reach of this conspiracy even extends its reach into the private sector. The financial system in the country be manned by trusted cronies, PETRONAS and its agents guarded by friends and family, the private power suppliers, utilities, media, trading companies, precious little was spared. One man stood to threaten the conspiracy, so he must be destroyed.

And what will happen on January 9? I think all the cards are with the conspirators. If recent trends are any indication, then I think Anwar will be found not guilty, to buy some good will. Instead moving the grounds of execution will be moved to the Court of Appeal (probably after the elections). But all the cards are with the conspirators, we can but wait.

With that out of the way, I want to talk about my observations about one of the most remarkable person i have had the pleasure to encounter and spend time with. He is my boss, but I will try to be objective. So let’s make it clear that Anwar is by no means perfect, only UMNO Barisan Nasional is perfect and does no wrong, so Anwar from time to time makes mistakes. The important thing is that he admits it.

The Inspirational

The first time I met Anwar Ibrahim was about 4 years ago together with my father. I was never an Anwar fan, also I am a skeptic by nature making me someone quite difficult to convince. I have lost all hope for Malaysia, and like many Malaysians have decided to move abroad. I was in a very good place in my life.

Anwar struck me with his warmth and modesty. He spoke at length on his beliefs and his political vision for Malaysia. He spoke about his views regarding race relations and international relations of Malaysia. He spoke at length about his mistakes and what he learnt during his ordeals. When I left the meeting I left with a change of heart. I left the meeting loving Malaysia more.

For the first time in my life I felt hope for Malaysia.  I realised that there is something worth fighting for. Suddenly I started to see everyone as Malaysians instead of just Malay, Indian, Chinese, Dayak, etc. I was inspired to see hope for our nation and its people..

Anwar inspires. Anwar inspired with his sincerity and conviction. Anwar inspired with his vision. And directly and indirectly millions were inspired. Just five years ago, who believed that our nation was standing on the verge of change? Who would believe that the mighty UMNO would need to start listening to the rakyat?

Of course Anwar was not the only source of inspiration. But at a time where some tremble at the sight of the moon on a green flag, and others who hurl insults at the sight of a rocket. He more than anyone else was the glue to bind us all together. He more than anyone else led us to each other, and today together we stand at the brink of a regime change in Malaysia. Without Anwar, how many would have believed we would have even got this far?

The Resilient

The remarkable thing about the survey which registered 51% liked our Prime Minister, while 39% likes Anwar. A friend commented that PR should be worried since Najib apparently was more popular than Anwar. But I offered a reversed conclusion that it is BN who should be concerned. Why? Simple.

For four years you have all the kings’ horses and men, all the newspapers, radio, cyber troopers attack one man. You went so far as to dig out the old play book and charge him with sodomy. You even have a crony get his own brother to impersonate this man in a porno production. All these while, all the mainstream media treats everyday as “denitrify our Prime Minster day”. Even going as far as to issue official national sermons for Friday prayers telling all good Muslims to offer undivided loyalty and obedience to our great Prime Minister and his friends. After four years of this and you find you are only 10% ahead, wouldn’t you be worried?

In other words we need to appreciate one thing. Anwar is extremely resilient. Anyone else subjected to this intensity of abuse would have thrown in the towel long ago, anyone else would have fallen ages ago. Yet, Anwar still stands tall and strong.

In fact through the waves of onslaughts directed at Anwar, I have never seen him visibly affected. Except during Zahrain Hashim’s fallout.  For the first time I could see Anwar visibly sad, more from the loss of an old friend I sensed.

Despite the unrelenting assaults, which would have crippled entire armies, Anwar still stands tall and strong, “this is because of the hard work and support from all of you” he would say. But in truth is we are the ones that should be thankful.

Not only because he continues to give us hope and inspiration, he also provides us shelter and protection. Imagine if there is no Anwar to draw the waves and waves of onslaught by the powers that be. Imagine if all the PR leaders and YBs are subjected to what Anwar has to face every day, how many more of us would have fallen? How many more would have thrown in the towel? He stood there and drew the majority of heat upon himself, so the rest of us can collectively work towards the goal of a better nation.

The Remarkable

Sometimes a nation produces a person who is destined to shine not only within their nation, but on the international stage as well. Here is someone who will make our nation shine that much more brightly (Some might try, some might imitate, but you can’t pretend to be Princess Diana). We in Malaysia are fortunate to have produced and nurtured such a remarkable person.

But it is also unfortunate that we choose to allow him to be shackled and weighed down. Or should I say that it is unfortunate that so many of us decide to stand by and allow him to be shackled. But remarkably Anwar remains firm about his love of Malaysia and its people, remains determined to spend his life and blood in building our country into the great nation we know we can become. He believes we can, I believe we need to.

Today our nation remains rooted and unable to break free from being decidedly mediocre, but the truth is we are mediocre by choice rather than due to any disability. To a large extent this is where our  Government has decided is the best place to be.

And for 55 years there have been nothing the people could have done about it. In a way we chose where we wanted to be. When the BN government was bulldozing the so called “peaceful” assembly bill through Parliament, in spite of the widespread objections from the people, a BN YB said that the Barisan Nasional is passing this bill with the mandate of the people and if you don’t like it then take over the government in the next elections if you can. The Remarkable Mr. Anwar Ibrahim says we can, do you hear him?

*Please note that this article was written before the Sodomy 2 verdict was announced on January 9, 2012.  Gwo-Burne’s views on Anwar Ibrahim have not changed.

This comment from Makcik is not unexpected. Semper Fi and Hang Mongkut Bean, I think either of you should make a date with her and find out why she is very frustrated.

Parit Makcik tersumbatke? Tu bukan kerja MP. Tugas MP adalah pengubal undang2, bukan makan kenduri, 10 rumah satu hari. Kalau jenis MP macam ni, tak lama terjerbak dalam rasuah sebab pengundi tak tahu bidang kuasa MP.

Saya dan jiran2 tetap undi ABU.

  3. You even have a crony get his own brother to impersonate this man in a porno production. ….care to elaborate?

Jembalang.

Pecah tembelang saperti semua tipu helah UMNO.

Like to send you ticket but you cannot get Visa from US Embassy and if even if you get a visa TSA will do full body search. TSA wants to make sure that you are a real Mak Cik and not Mak Nyah like Kumar the Comedian in Singapore. Depan belakang boleh main.

Apa susah sangat dengan nama MP saperti Lu tolong Gua (Guo) Gua tolong Lu. Pergilah belajar dengan ketua lu Ah Jib Gor.

  16. Why some of you who are smart enoughbother to respond to this UMNO cybertrooper, anak melayu pondan who call ITSELF, “makchik”.. SHEEESH!!!

  17. To all Malaysians of whatever race, religion, creed. It is time you guys leave whatever baggage you have been carrying through the years and ride the Dragon together. Frank will shovel coal through the ass of this Dragon so it could breathe fire.

  18. WATCH THIS VIDEO AND SEE HOW THESE MALAY THUGS DISRUPTED A CERAMAH HELD BY ABU-HINDRAF at Jalan Kebun on 21st January 2012

None of the mainstream media, Star, NST, Utusan Malaysia, RTM etc reported this.

See here commentary on Anil Netto blog

    http://anilnetto.com/malaysian-politics/what-happened-in-jalan-kebun-last-night/

SURELY this is an UMNO YOUTH /PERKASA inspired thuggery.

    Where is PDRM????

  19. Makcik,

you seem to be many persons under one name, the following song is especially for you – it fits you

  20. It is good that everything that took place is recorded on video and now the police cannot say there is no battery, assault, trespass and damage to property. All that needs to be done is to identify the perpetrators.

  21. The police will need to treat this incident like any other incident. Crimes have been committed against individuals and private property. If they do not and view it as instigation and dismiss it as being politically motivated etc then the obvious danger is that more of such incidents can be expected. It will lead to a general breakdown in law and order sooner than later. Those who committed crimes must be charged and made to pay for the damage to property among others.

  22. And Frank,

I wish you had not said “Malay thugs”. A thug is a thug whether he is Malay, Chinese or Indian. No one is above the law. Crime or crimes have been committed and they are caught on video. It is now a matter for the police. It is a issue of law enforcement.

  23. This comment picked up from Ani’s blog reflects the thinking of the Malays in areas like Kg. Bahru.

    ————————————

Firstly, we are the resident of jln kebun and we are not satisfied with the provocation by the outsider from hindraf and political party that organize ‘meeting’ at mbsa hall nearby. They used to provoke our community with these words ‘ melayu …’ n melayu … and many more. Thats why the people of jln kebun react to teach them how to respect people when they were into our area! Pls be fair to us! Ok

    ————————————

“Provocation” by outsiders?? How ridiculously stupid is that? What is the reason for this dog in the manger attitude? These are people exercising their rights to free speech, assembly and association. And this is a nation of laws.

“Be fair to us”?? Some people’s rights are being trampeled here? How and where does the fairness issue come in? The danger is that these retards actually believe in the trash they are pedalling. Someone should educate them. They should be made example of by other Malays who do not share their views.

  24. ooops …. trampled

  25. I wish you had not said “Malay thugs”. -Mr Bean

    Point taken…

The emphasis was deliberately made by me to highlight the fact that the attendees at the ceramah were mainly INDIANS, and such an action by a group of MALAY thugs might spiral into something out of control.

It is also intended to reinforce the the need for the damn POLICE to go after these thugs, which in the past, Malaysians have resigned to the fact the police seems reluctant to arrest and punish them, for whatever reason for their CRIMINAL BEHAVIOUR.

According to Malaysiakini reports, these thugs asked the Malay participants to leave before they went about creating havoc at the ceramah. That in itself is a frightening situation.

What if the Indian participants were to retaliate with violence?? The consequence is unthinkable.

And you know what the Selangor Chief of Police said when he was interviewed by Malaysiakini. Read here

“….However, Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah refuted the allegations that a person was injured.

“Nothing happened, the residents were unhappy, that’s all. No BN or Umno supporters disturbed them,” said Tun Hisan when contacted.

“No police reports were lodged, not even by the victim who was said to be injured,” he said.

I consider this reaction by Selangor Police Chief Tun Hisan as a disgrace and totally unacceptable given what was captured on video.

No wonder these thugs have no respect for public order because they see the POLICE as either on THEIR side or simply as a bunch of WIMPS in Uniform because they are members of UMNO and/or Perkasa.

The fact of the matter is that fortunately those INDIAN participants were told not to react which might conflate into something very very ugly.

Perhaps I should have said “UMNO and BN thugs”, as Malaysiakini report made it clear AFTER I made the posting. Interesting if among these thugs were Chinese and Indians. I doubt it.

    See here in Malaysiakini

“…According to Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) executive director E Nalini (right), the ceramah was disrupted by several youths sporting T-shirts with BN and UMNO logos…..” .

But then again, I might lose the point intended to be put across to the POLICE and to decent minded Malaysians of the racial underpinnings of the samseng behaviour of these Malay thugs.

  26. Back to Chinese New Year mood and riding the Dragon. Be mesmerized by this Korean babe and her talent.

  27. … the problem must be nipped in the bud in no uncertain terms by the powers that be. The alternative is unthinkable.

  28. Things seem to be rapdily going downhill and I’m afraid for the country.

  29. Re: NFCorp

“It turns out before this Datuk Salleh had two non-Malay employees They handled RM150 000 in cash every day One of these employees siphoned off the money Ibrahim told reporters at Hotel Putra here He further alleged that the employee then stole the companys cashbook as revenge for the dismissal and may have sold it to PKR which led to the charge against the scandal-tainted NFCorp The marketing executive will be charged in court soon for embezzling company funds Ibrahim added — Malaysian Insider

“Two non-Malay employees”?? What has race (assuming it is true), gotta do with anything?

  30. Look, Gwo- Burne Loh, we are not doubting your experience with AI. We are in deep gratitude of his sacrifces. With every change someone has to be sacrifced, he did it for us. He went through the whole hog and its still not finished for him. He still is the target of them who dont want to let go of power .

I hope that you will fight the good fight and make sure M’sia is for all M’sians and not be selective if ever you are elected to SERVE the people. Don’t forget because if you do , you will have humiliated everything AI went through and we will be here to make sure you are no longer there to SERVE.

Zero tolerance to public servants who enter for their own intentions. ZERO.

  31. Charisma, warmth, humility and an unusually talented politician… I do not think too many people can argue with that description of Anwar. The point, however, is… is the coalition he currently leads ready to govern our country?

I feel they need a lot more time.

  32. Thanks, frank for highligting the incident here. No one can stay on the sidelines on this issue as it has a tendency to be replicated elsewhere in the run-up to the elections. There is a pattern of behaviour here and unless checked will become a model of behaviour for others to follow.

Let’s hope Dato will give this incident space in this blog to highlight the ramifications of such an incident with the police issuing statements that are clearly at odds with what actually took place. What took place was invasion of public property, battery, simple and aggravated assault with serious apprehension to bodily harm; and damages caused to public property by common criminals.Their identifites are known and the tape is evidence.

The police chief here should be charged with dereliction of duty if all he does is deny it has taken place or acknowledges it has taken place but by well meaning residents annoyed to see the peace in the neigborhood disturbed by the assembly. If that is the case they can then lodge a police report for nuisance. Good luck to that.

  33. Alot more time? Sometimes when there is “no time” to learn, and you have just got to do it, that is when you learn the most. Thrown into the deep end and you just have to swim. They just have to do it, serve the people, formulate policies change the whole system.

It is always, always, in conditions that are unbearable (desperate conditions) change happens & thrives

  34. Things seem to be rapdily going downhill and I’m afraid for the country.- Mr Bean

I do too. I hope the bloghost highlight incidents like this so that preventive measures can be taken by the authorities.

Racial conflicts are being used to instigate political differences.

Unfortunately the rakyat-funded uniformed personnel in Bukit Aman are more interested in making house calls at Opposition members and those who criticise the UMNO-BN govt…. I wonder whether what the LEADERSHIP in the police force thinking…that they are paid from the UMNO coffers or from taxpayers for their stupid attitude in dealing with issues that potentially can get out of control.

  35. ‘dereliction of duties’ Mr. Bean

Rosmah should be charged with dereliction of her duties to look after her husband, so he could look after the country!

the polis, the ruling politicians and the judiciary should be jointly charged for derelicting their responsibilities to the people of malaysia.

the longer this type of establishment sanctioned anarchy (disrupting of the ceramah) goes on the deeper sinks this country into political/racial chaos.
is this intended so as to declare emergency soon if umno/bn sees itself disadvantaged in winning the election?

I hope the opposition will keep their cool and wait for the opportunity at the election to turn the tables. beforehand it should concentrate on pushing for reforms in the election system together with Bersih.

change must come sooner than later.

  36. Frank,

All the Chief of Police of that District needs to do is to call up for interrogation that one guy who started the invasion of public property (apparently it was licensed out for a public purpose), destroyed public property, committed trespass, assault both simple and aggravated besides the tort of intentionally inflicting emotional and mental distress to onlookers. Have him charged for those crimes and the others with conspiracy. That is his duty as police officer in charge of the district. He does not need to get approval for that.

And so what is the reason given for not doing his duty this time?

You guys should never let this go away. Yes, it is true there are more serious incidents that resulted in deaths of detainees in police custody, for example, and that is nothing compared to those, but it goes to the very core of police work. If they are not willing to apprehend local bullies in the neighborhood who have complete disregard for the law, caught on tape and circulated on the internet, the deleriction of duties by the police officers here would be followed sooner or later by a general breakdown of law and order. It could happen to you, your family and your friends. Home invasion woud just be one short step away.

    I fear for the worst.

  37. GBL, thank you for sharing with us your thoughts. Reading about Mahathir’s grand plan makes my hair stand. As it is right now, we are seeing his vision unfurled in ways only UMNO knows how – gangsterism and thuggery with law enforcers choosing to turn a blind eye.

I’d like to say I’m macho enough not to be afraid but then my fears will only feed these bast**ds. In the face of these challenges I should hope to be able to at least appear stoic unless they have morphed into real animals that they could smell my fear.

In the midst of these provocations the best thing to do is to remain calm. We can’t reason with those with empty cranial cavity. Our opportunity will be the election day. Then, we nail them.

Even in defeat I’m not hopeful that they will repent nor reform. Causing mischief is what they will probably resort to and we must be prepared to employ the full force of the law as the first reminder that the rule of law has returned.

  38. I hope the bloghost highlight incidents like this so that preventive measures can be taken by the authorities. — frank

Looks like there are only two of us.

  39. In the midst of these provocations the best thing to do is to remain calm. We can’t reason with those with empty cranial cavity. Our opportunity will be the election day. Then, we nail them. — ARMS728

In the context of what had happened in Jln. Kebun (wherever that may be)? We should not treat incidents like this as being politically motivated and of frayed tempers etc. It is a simple case of law and order. Neigborhood bullies out to cause public mischief, a breach of the peace, inflicting emotional and mental distress should be treated as such and charged accordingly.

Remain calm? Everybody is calm. Life has to go on. If you are not willing to enforce the law over incidents involving neighborhood bullies out to cause mischief, then what would the chances be when racial fights are staged outside polling stations on election day?

Are we supposed to go burn Parliament Building down because we believe Emergency will be declared and Parliament would be suspended and power would remain in the hands of an unelected caretaker government?

  40. Mr. Bean, I do not have any hard facts to back my claim but I believe it is politically motivated. If we read the comments of one of the resident he alluded to a racial angle.

There is this feeling on the ground being formented by the right wingers that Malay/Islam rights are slowly being eroded and the uneducated masses are buying this. In fact, those educated but are too lazy to think are also accepting this nonsense.

This is not s simple case of bullying. The perpetrators specifically asked the Malays to leave the hall…what does this imply? The whole institutional structure in Malaysia has been corrupted to the scale where they obey the Executive branch based on a single thread – race. In any other cases like this the PDRM would be happy to at least whack those gangsters in the head with their chotas. And in the worst case scenario they will receive the fate of the late Kugan.

When UMNO loses Putrajaya, it will be a rude awakening for many of them. Selangor is a good example where the civil service is still ill at ease with the state administration. And until today things have not been where its supposed to be.

The broad agenda is to fill every nook and corner with every Malay available as they feel numbers will win the day. This is the reality today.
Even the PM’s department is filled with 46,000 employees with a RM 4 billion budget.

I’d like to think that it’s quite a clear law and order issue but this I feel is not the case. I wouldn’t want to do anything silly to hand over the country to a bunch of unelected caretaker government either.

  41. “Mr. Bean, I do not have any hard facts to back my claim but I believe it is politically motivated” ARMS728

Of course, it is politically motivated. That is plain to see. That was never in doubt in my mind. The point I’m making here is the police should approach it as a law and order issue and nothing more (underline nothing more) and take the appropriate action.

  42. “I’d like to think that it’s quite a clear law and order issue but this I feel is not the case” ARMS728

The idea is to confine the issue to one of law and order. Whoever are behind this would want to make it into something else more to justify their action. If it is nothing more than an issue of law and order ( battery, assault, trespass among others are committed in flagrant breach of the law) it would be easier for the OCPD in charge to proceed. No political ramifications of any kind to complicate matters.

    That is my point.

  43. “I wouldn’t want to do anything silly to hand over the country to a bunch of unelected caretaker government either.” ARMS728

Where were you between May 13 – May 15 1969? Parliament was suspended and in its place was the Operations Council. Tok Cik was in Kuala Kubu Bahru waiting for orders for his unit of army Rangers to move in to take over from the Royal Malays. And Semper fi was hunkered down at Batu Cantonement waiting for his orders.

It is not like you and I have a choice. We didn’t have a choice then. We don’t have a choice now.

  44. Thrown into the deep end? No. not good enough especially when one considers that the component parties hardly miss an opportunity to be at each other’s throats. How do we expect them to swim under such circumstances?

  45. Mr. Bean, if the police wanted to enforce the law as it should be it would have happened that night. The fact that the injured party has not made any report suggests either he feels it would be of no use or he was “advised” not to do so. Lodging a report might be taken as inflaming an already tense situation.

If the past 12 months is any indication, I do not see anybody within the higher rank of the PDRM to face up to UMNO. From this perspective it would be very difficult for them to act without being coloured by political consideration.

May 13, I was in Ipoh. My late father was on standby, waiting for his orders as well.

  46. Mr Bean,

There are too many woolly-headed Pakatan supporters who have wet dreams about a Pakatan victory for Putrajaya. Talking through their noses and through their other end of the alimentary canal.

The road to Putrajaya for Pakatan as of today is still VERY VERY FAR OFF.

There are too many hurdles and most of them unsurmountable such as Police bias and the police unwillingness to stop these kampung thugs and samseng from creating an environment for racial conflict.

Unless these pea-brain Pakatan supporters address all these obstacles, including the abuse of the mainstream media to report garbage to the rural Malay heartland, Pakatan will NOT have any chance of coming within 10 km from the door of Putrajaya.

The inaction of the Police to these samseng in the Malay neighbourhood who have no respect for law and order has to be addressed by Pakatan, not just free and fair election.

These thugs will not go quietly EVEN IF THERE IS A FREE AND FAIR ELECTION… AND THEY KNOW THEY HAVE THE POLICE ON THEIR SIDE.

If the dumb Pakatan supporters on this blog don’t sit up and stare squarely at these samseng such as those disruptint the ABU-HINDRAF ceramah,, they will wake up in the morning after the election night with nightmares.

Empty headed Pakatan supporters… talking through the space between their legs..

  47. “I wouldn’t want to do anything silly to hand over the country to a bunch of unelected caretaker government either.” ARMS728

ARMS728, I think you mean the caretaker government or operations council (Mr Bean) and not PR.

you don’t have to do anything silly to provoke the declaration of Emergency, once a dictator feels that he has no chance of staying in power he’ll call an emergency. likewise is malaysia, one dictator with many little Napoleons. the reason for calling emergency rule is unimportant – anything will do. who is there to question them, the King??

Italy declared emergency yesterday to facilate the handling of Costa Concordia crisis.

even if we keep our cool and topple the government at the polls, the same thing will happen – emergency and caretaker government. THEY are NOT going to relinguish power, no way. thats why commentators like Isa Manteqi insists that is better to let umno/bn reign over us forever.

head you win, tail I lose

  48. ARMS, you stand the risk of walking into a lock-up if you go to a police station to make such a report, especially if you belong to opposition parties.

  49. Looks like there are only two of us.-Mr Bean

Perhaps the bloghost feels this incident is NOT important to warrant discussion, as other INTERNATIONAL news are more urgent and important.

As for those on this blog, while they are only a small minority of the internet savvy, but they are the woolly-head blind supporters of Pakatan who have orgasms just talking about a Pakatan victory in the next GE. They just syok sendiri.

There are other Malaysians who have written in to Malaysiakini expressing their disgust at the response of the Selangor Chief of Police to the samseng behaviour of these thugs at the ABU-HINDRAF ceramah.

Here is the llink to read :

Click here: YOUR SAY:Police chief blind to blatant gangsterism

I take comfort that there are MORE THAN TWO US outside this blog who have concerns on the irresponsible response of the Selangor Police Chief to this incident,

Reactions or non-reaction from the readers of THIS blog are irrelevant in the bigger scheme of things. End of the day, its just talk-fest.

  50. oops..Facilitate, it should be.

  51. The one who appeared to be in control and leading what appeared to be a group of local gangsters was doing so in a purposeful way, measured and never out of control. Someone with police training? Police in mufti? Agent provocateur?

  52. Frank and Bean,
I had on an earlier thread alluded that Malaysians might have to resort to vigilante justice seeing that the Police are not protecting or enforcing law and order.

  53. I really fear for M’sia now. It is tyrranny what goes on!

  54. semper fi,

I had in an earlier thread mentioned that the Police are advising residents to organise their own security service. is the police there to intimidate the opposition politician and supporters only?

  55. Well Isa manteqi, what you & I debate about is academic isnt it now. Look at whats happeneing on the ground. People are fighting each other based on false ideologies, based on fear. The fear has set in adn when that sets in and the momentum gathers, a landslide will happen , not the political ladnslide but God knows. This is a really worrying development .

  56. The country is heading towards unchartered waters here.

Faced with the prospect of losing all legitimacy to rule , right wing elements in UMNO can be expected to create a public order crisis leading to a declaration of Emergency and a suspension of Parliament and the setting up of a National Operations Council. This happened in 1969. The police in charge of internal security was ill equipped to handle such widespread breakdown in public order and the military had to be called in. But the military under Gen. Tunku Osman Jewa was too well trained in its traditional role, too complacent, too well looked after, to harbor political ambitions of its own and played a supporting role in the National Operations Council (NOC) which remained under civilian control. The military remained subservient to civilian leadership.

But this time the Malays appear split right down the middle. What is the thinking among the military brass today? What do they see as their role? Unlike in countries like Indonesia where the military shed blood in the struggle for independence and won for itself the legitimacy to rule, our military has never had to fight to win independence.

Semper and Tok Cik (both formerly from the military) may be able to shed some light on the thinking that goes on among the military brass today. Since the end of the Indonesian confrontation, our army is a peace time army, well looked after and too satisfied to want to assume power from the civilian leadership. But in times of a widespread public order crisis they may be forced to step in to assume control like they did in the opening stages of the racial riots in 1969 but as part of an Operations Council under civilian control.

Like I said. The country is in unchartered waters.

  57. Mr Bean

With the leadership of the POLICE FORCE like that we have for Selangor, who has BLATANTLY SHOWN to be an UMNO apparatchik, the country is GOING TO THE DOGS.

The milittary is one thing… but the onset of CIVIL CHAOS in Malaysia will be predicated by the role of the POLICE force.

Is the MALAYSIAN POLICE with its LEADERS acting like UMNO para military personnel a party to the civil chaos after the results of the next GE.

Perhaps this UMNO-led govt fearing they might lose for the first time the reins of govt are DELIBERATELY asking the POLICE FORCE, which is already behaving like an UMNO-Para Millitary outfit, to generate FEAR among the voters so that they will vote for UMNO-BN.

The thinking among many many Malaysians is that the police force, by its ACTION and NON-ACTION, will be the TRIGGER in the next civil chaos.

The only people who can confront this scenario builtg up by UMNO is the PAS LEADERSHIP. and the PAS grassroot to prevent the onset of a racial strife. If this happens, the country will be on fire… and this time around, the blood will be in the hands of the POLICE FORCE.

  58. frank – no MAGERAN please..that’s the bottom line but

reeperbahn thinks that they’ll never submit to a new administration.

That’s why no report was made in the first place.

It is naive to think that the road to Putrajaya is easy. Difficult would not even begin to describe it. It would have been good if the police had taken swift action that night but what they showed was political bias which they should have not. I have alluded to the reasons in my comments above.

All of us in this forum being objective is one thing but reconciling it with the reality on the ground is another.

  59. We the people hereby demand that Kartun Hisan the CPO of Selangor be issued a show cause letter on why he should not be removed for dereliction of duty and being blind to civil disturbances. A blind man like him cannot perform the duties of CPO. The Police must remain neutral and carry out its duties in protecting the citizens regardless of their political affiliation. Police must maintain law and order and the Selangor Police under his command has failed and thus he should be demoted with a pay cut. He should be transferred to PVR or become a meter maid.

  60. REEPERBAHN : You are obviously unaware of earlier postings (going back to the 2008 elections). If you were, you would know that a TWO PARTY system is what most (including myself)t on this blog have been advocating and debating on how best to bring abouit.

It is my view that the current opposition is far from ready to govern the country. I am also aware that this opinion is not widely shared.

  61. The difference between the opposition and the UMNO led government is that the latter is in power for all the wrong reasons and has the wrong kind of experience i.e. abuse of power and corruption. We can do without that kind of experience. With Pakatan it is ready when you are. The reason you gave Isa Manteqi sounds like an excuse for more abuse and more corruption in exchange for political stability.

  62. The reason you gave Isa Manteqi sounds like an excuse for more abuse and more corruption in exchange for political stability.-Mr Bean

I have been telling Isa Manteqi for a million times the same thing…but evidently Isa has his brain surrounded by concrete. Nothing will get through to him. He is an obstinate in his views that it is like asking a fish to see the world from out of the water.

I have given on him on this issue. He just can’t come out of his concrete walled mind.

  63. That’s right. There comes a time when a man has to take a stand. You can’t just keep on running away from the issue.

  64. Let me give the mindset of Isa Manteqi and relate that to Penang.

It is like Isa Manteqi telling voters or those in this blog PRIOR to the MARCH 2008 election that it is too early to let DAP to govern Penang because DAP has NO experience in governing a state. It is inexperience, and for the sake of stability, Penang should remain status quo ie run by Gerakan under BN since Gerakan had been running Penang for donkey years.

In Isa’s mind, it is too risking to let Penang change hands to DAP, a party that has no experience. DAP can only govern later after having some experience in governance, otherwise there will be turmoil and political instability in Penang.

Isa’s solution is that DAP should start by running a Town Council or City Council first before voters give DAP the right to govern Penang.

Now… how is Penang doing under DAP/Pakatan????

If Isa Manteqi does not know, READ ASPAN ALIAS’s article HERE, entitled, Nak tengok Bersih, Cekap dan Amanah?….ada di Pulau Pinang.

That is why I say, Isa Manteqi’s argument of a status quo is faulty and full of loopholes. It is discredited by what happens in Penang and Selangor.

Of course, he will say, governing a state is different from govt the country. So is governing a Town Council to governing a state.

  65. correction

In Isa’s mind, it is too risky…..

  66. Isa wants to not only taste the wine before buying it. He wants to make sure that the vintner will continue to bottle the wine in the future. Isa is not a risk taker. He wants to hedge his bets on a proven party.

BN is not a political party, it’s a loose coalition bunch of political parties that got together to divvy up the spoils. PR is exactly like BN a loose coalition of political parties. If you don’t give PR the opportunity, how would PR prove their ability. Thus forever Malaysia will be ruled by BN and the pillaging will continue.

  67. Isa, while some of us may not share your views, respect it we must. That’s the sign of civilized discourse.

Status quo is definitely a no-no. I am a firm believer PR is ready to helm the country. If we look at Japan, the government changes all the time but life goes on. Of course our civil service is not to their standard but as I have always maintained, sustained public support will provide them the confidence.

The first thing they must do is take care of the “bread and butter” issues. This is the “ice breaker” to obtain wide support. Once this is done their influence will cut across political affiliations or at least it will mute their opposition.

  68. Isa’s ideas on status quo are akin to retrograde ejaculation, my friends. There is no ‘issue’ with these type of infertile thinking. Change is mandatory at this phase of dead-water politics – in which threading on water will only sink us.

With all the cash hand-outs, hype and branding that is Jibs&Co., the margin is still too close to call. Central KL remains a sight to behold this CNY. Petaling Street was overrun by foreigners – who for a piece of paper, will be more than willing to twist the knife further into our innards. The only hope for Pakatan will be a huge voter turnout to mitigate the vote-buying and manipulation.

Expect the polls on April. Ready or not, we’ve to roll.

  69. retrograde ejaculation, – C.L. Familiaris

Never heard this one before… further clarification please!

  70. ARMS728, Japan has changed umpteen times they have no fear of change. We however have never dared, this is the first. So fear is everywhere because they have no faith in themselves so the fear is projected outwardly. I dont mean Isa manteqi here but those who are resisting it.

after the first it will get easier and easier, so this is a natural stage .

  71. abit of caution is always good so we dont make the same mistake of surrendering our power totally and trust those who are in service completely (again!).

  72. Aiya frank – ‘back’ ejaculation into the bladder, as practiced by the arcane Taoist supremacists and other religious freaks lah, so that they can continue or as a means of contrception.. In other words dry ‘orgasm’. Problem is that it seldom works as the system get’s jammed. Also happens post-prostatectomy as a complication or as a side-effect of some drugs, most notably SSRI’s used for treating ‘depression’.. haha..

  73. Oh dear… Crucified a second time…

But who said about maintaining status quo?. Never mind.. I shall stay put in my concrete mind and keep repeating what I believe… that there are ways to go forward other than the big bang solutio,. with an opposition at odds with itself.

Why? Have said this before too… WE HAVE TOO MUCH TO LOSE.. You folks can make what you like of this..

  74. But Isa manteqi, I am not trying to be difficult but pray tell us what exactly Do we have rightnow that we have too much to lose?

Isnt them that refuse to let go of power have much much more too loose than the people?

  75. ‘back’ ejaculation into the bladder,-C.L. Familiaris

    Ouch!!!!

  76. CLF – retrograde ejaculation? I pity those swimmers! After all the warm-ups they’re to return to the bench, what an anti-climax..he he

Isa, I can’t speak for the rest but I have no intention of crucifying you. In any shakeout, there’ll be losses – on both sides. But I’m confident that Malaysians now are mature enough to accept it albeit a small section by the periphery. This is to be expected.

The noises by the likes of the son of Ali will be drowned out once the mainstream media is streamlined. After all, they only get airtime from UMNO controlled media.

Sakmongkol AK47 wrote sometime last week that TDM is behind PERKASA and Syed Mokhtar bankrolls them. When BN is soundly defeated the blame game will start so they’ll be busy among themselves and Syed Mokhtar is a businessman – he flows with the prevailing wind.

  77. Actually Isa, while it is true that many of us have much to lose, it is incumbent on our generation to set things right. We are the one’s who let the UMNO Elitists (shall i say Rent-seeking Feudalistic Entitled Gangsters) go too far. We do it not for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren.

The Talent of our youth is no longer with us. The Wisdom of our generation must not be whittled away by fear of the unknown. We are not even talking about mere economics, we are talking about a failed Nationhood.

ARMS, that Bukhari flur is way, way over-geared. Why is Maybank, not CIMB underwriting the Proton deal? Probably got their udders squeezed.

  78. Collusion between government and big business is hard to beat. UMNO has made race into a bread and butter issue for the ordinary folks, drumming up fear that they will lose out to the ‘pendatangs’. There will always be folks who buy into the argument.

Another argument that has been put out there is that Pakatan is an unknown among the variables and so we must be careful not to throw caution to the winds. Apparenlty it has found favor with some urban folks among the Malays — and Isa Manteqi is one of them.

    Should we be surprised? No.

  79. CLF, talking about gearing, that’s how these flurs (if I may borrow your term) makes money (the OPM principle – other people’s money). To rub salt into wound they got all these juicy deals through cronyism.

Why CIMB not MBB? You could be right, got their udders squeezed. It could also be that to take the heat away from CIMB as CIMB has been too active in the last 12 months.

Some are saying that SMB could be another Amin Shah in the making. I should hope not.

  80. I have said it before and will continue with my conviction – I’d like to leave a sound legacy for my children. Not a corrupt government with broken down institutions.

There’s a glimmer of hope coming through the ballot box soon and I can’t afford to repent in leisure for not seizing this golden opportunity. It’s not as if the opposition are truly “unknown unknowns” that there’s little chance of them succeeding in managing the country, it’s just that dislodging the poisonous thought implanted in the masses mind long ago by the incumbent is excruciatingly difficult to do.

Till this day, the resultant self-doubt lingers preventing the mind to be liberated to reclaim the much needed self-confidence that change we must and together we can make it work.

  81. Yes, agreed that there is more than a small chance that BN will be unseated. If they are and if the current opposition does a job that Malaysians want, I shall be the first to eat my words. (Have said this before too).

Until then, I shall stick to my concrete bunker mentality and say that PR is far from ready for Putra Jaya.

And Frank… you surely do not mean that governing a state IS the same as governing a country??? You will recall we had a short exchange on a two-party system many moons ago… That point is still valid.

  82. A good point, above, about the political maturity of Malaysians. Alas it is not the maturity of citizens but the quality of politicians that will decide the kind of government we eventually get. It is here, one fears, that problems will start.

Hence my suggestion of an ELECTED watchdog/ombudsman mechanism henceforth that would be a citizen’s guarantee and last resort against runaway abuse of power and excessive secrecy. Still not perfect but better than what we currently have.

  83. Isa Manteqi

With all respect to you, I don’t agree with your stance but accept your arguments as to why you think so. IF the voters elect PR, then I don’t see why they shouldn’t give it a try. in which case we don’t need an elected ombudsman.

It is better to go to the doctor early and get rid of the viruses than wait till the whole body is riddled with the disease. We have tolerated the abuse of power for too long.

for the sake of the country’s future, responsible Malaysians should take some risk and push for change.

  84. Alas it is not the maturity of citizens but the quality of politicians that will decide the kind of government we eventually get. Isa Manteqi that’s quite absurd!
in a functioning democracy the government is elected by the people! If the people are intelligent/mature they’ll select the right politicians.

  85. “If the people are intelligent/mature they’ll select the right politicians” REEPERBAHN.

If only this were true we would hardly have any problems in this world of ours.

We are witnessing the results of a financial system that has been allowed to function without effective control mechanisms. Politics is no different.

  86. you are right, real education is that which will profit the people and bring long term positive change.
BUT, umno/bn would never strive to improve the education system because with proper education and freer mass-media, they’ll have no chance of holding on to power!
we are witnessing a financial system which has been abused to benefit the umnoputras, their cronies and to prop up the egos of our useless politicians. as someone said ‘lembeks and lembus.’

if malaysia is to come out of this mess, we have to change our government at the polls. if PR wins give them a chance.
we still have malaysians who are capable of bringing law and order and good governance if given a chance. and many will come bach with new knowhows/talent to help.

when the nazis first moved into Poland they executed 400,000 poles at one go i.e., all the intelligentia – you can cripple a country only by exterminating its upper-class. the same fate was suffered by Bangla Desh etc..
malaysia on the other hand was humane, it just chased away its people or just phased them out of active duties.

  87. REEPERBAHN : There is not one but two issues here. We need to change our style of government but we also need to make sure the country does not get into a similar (or worse) situation again. I can only see this being possible if we put in place a watchdog mechanism that will prevail no matter who is in power.

Our current “winner take all” is part of the problem to which a coalition type of government is one answer, but will anyone buy into this under the existing state of affairs? That WOULD be a victory for political maturity.
