Aspan Alias and Ariff Sabri join DAP

BREAKING NEWS

ASPAN ALIAS and ARIFF SABRI join DAP

DAP scores a coup with UMNO veterans and bloggers, including former Pulau Manis UMNO  Rep and Economist Dato’ Mohd Ariff Sabri Aziz.

Former Pulau Manis UMNO assemblyman Mohd Ariff Sabri Aziz and Negeri UMNO veteran Aspan Alias (photo) have joined DAP.

Having Ariff on board is a major coup for DAP because he was Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s information chief in his Pekan UMNO division up until 2004.

“If you want to know, yes, that is what we are doing (joining DAP).

“I am impressed by DAP. They are principled, I like their professionalism.I was with (Lim) Guan Eng at the bloggers conference last month. There is no fancy words, they are focussed on work … always thinking unlike our UMNO people,” he told FMT recently.

Ariff’s admission puts to rest weeks of wildfire speculations in pro-UMNO blogs. He is also rumoured to be contesting under the DAP banner in the next general election. Ariff is touted to be contesting in Raub where MCA’s Ng Yen Yen is incumbent. Ng is currently the Tourism Minister, and a MCA Vice President.

Warning to UMNO’s bloggers

Gunning pro-UMNO bloggers who have been maligning them both personally and professionally, an incessant Ariff (photo) said: “Why the paranoia? If we are not good, failed ADUN (assemblymen), bankrupt politicians, it will be cinch for any winnable UMNO candidates to beat us.

“So, it’s no cause of concern or a sleep depriver. But be warned, you want to play ball, we play ball too, so stop telling lies about us and we can promise not to tell the truth about you (UMNO).”

Both Ariff and Aspan are not alone. There are increasing speculations of shifts within and out of UMNO.

DAP has been targeting ‘thinking’ Malays post-2008 GE to increase its support within the community.

Onboard is Transparency International Malaysia founder Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim who is now the party’s Vice Chairman and former UMNO Education Minister Khir Johari’s son Zairil.

Zairil and party strategist Liew Chin Tong along with Youth chairman Anthony Loke have been tasked with wooing selected Malays.

It was reported that the party leaders have been meeting “Malay opinion-makers in small closed-door discussions dealing with issues concerning Islamic state, hudud and Bumiputera affirmative action”.

‘DAP more relevant to Malays now’

Ariff and Aspan have been the target of  pro-UMNO bloggers who have among others accused the duo of treason.

But according to Ariff, DAP is ‘more relevant’ to the Malays now than UMNO. “Don’t read our move as blasphemous or treasonable. I believe the DAP is more relevant and functional in achieving a more democratic and abuse-free society than UMNO, he added.

“In DAP I can speak on the plight of the displaced and disowned Malays with more energy than allowed of in UMNO. UMNO has turned its back on corruption and abuse of political office. DAP abhors these traits. To me these are attractive propositions. As a Muslim, we are changing wadah not aqidah…that is what UMNO fears. It fears that its monopoly over Malays is broken, ” said Ariff, who is also an FMT columnist.

Last week DAP Youth chief Anthony Loke had reportedly said that the party had approached Ariff and Aspan but ‘no decision has been made’.

  1. People are wondering when Tengku Razaleigh will be making his move with his Amanah NGO movement. He will make the move when the time is right, I guess. I am told that he is concerned about the fate of his supporters if he quits UMNO. It has happened before with his supporters in Semangat 46. Mahathir squeezed them all financially. Ku Li will make a great Prime Minister. Cry Geranimo.

  2. dato, selamat datang ke Raub. will back to Raub on ge 13 to help whatever i can. you sure have my friends and family votes…..thanks you.

  3. A good move by both Dato’ Ariff & Aspan. Most thinking Malays know that beside PAS, DAP is a party of principle. The only setback is DAP is perceived to be fighting for Chinese only. With the two seasoned and somewhat influential ex-UMNO politicians taking the DAP platform, it is hoped that Malay support for Pakatan Rakyat will get stronger, hopefully in time for GE13.

  4. The two bloggers in the blogsphere that I admired for their wit, intelligent and politic savvy, among the few intelligent people in umNO who were brave enough to speak out but never being listened, just like mencurah air di daun keladi – umNO never listen and never learnt. Hopefully all the other brainy people in umNO would leave umNO for Anything But UmNO/BN. Lets have a new dawn for Malaysia. Malaysia will be a better place without umNO/BN in power.

  5. By joining the DAP, you carry none of the political baggage that breakaways from UMNO carried and who earlier flocked to form PKR. By joining DAP they are helping to rid DAP of the image of a Chinese opposition oarty which has emerged to haunt it now and then only to be exploited by right wing elements of UMNO. If this trickle turns to a wave, it will change DAP forever.

  6. The two ex-UMNO men joined DAP because of one man LIM GUAN ENG. (LGE)

LGE walks the talk. He puts DAP principles up front in Penang and showed to the Malays, “You can trust us to look after YOU too.” The wannabe Malay UMNO mamaks suddenly found themselves in the twilight zone.

The UMNO-mamaks in Penang found themselves betting on the wrong horse (and wanted to be a horse too) in the last 40 years.

If LGE is willing to go to jail (and he did) on a principle to defend the modesty of a young Malay girl against an UMNO warlord, what is so being afraid defending the marginalisation of the Malays.??

The only MALAYS who feared DAP are those crutch-dependent, greedy and “you owe us a living” Malays to which UMNO’s existence is depended upon.

Thinking MALAYS who aren’t afraid to cross the rubicon, so to speak, and who genuinely want to help their fellow Malays who are on the receiving end of the class struggle, are NATURAL supporters of DAP.

With this new development, RACIAL political parties are moving towards oblivion. However, racial politics will still be the main game in the short term…but I am confident as Malays see themselves as Malaysians, unlike that PEA-BRAINED DPM who is responsible for approving the cow-project to his fellow UMNO cronyt, and who is knifing Najib with “I am Malay first and Malaysian second” statement, RACIAL POLITICS will move into the background sooner than later.

Educated Malays must wake up fast from the lies and the wool put before their eyes by the pariah UMNO Malays… for the sake of the future of our beloved nation.

  7. If this trickle turns to a wave, it will change DAP forever.- scarlet.pimpernel

It is time Malays take over the leadership in DAP and with support the Chinese and Indians.and Malays.I hope it happens in my and Mr Bean’s life time

That will give the shit to UMNO and I will be more than happy to meet my 72 Virigns.

  10. razaleigh,

pls come on board for a better msia.

dato’ ariff and encik aspan-terima kasih kerana berjuang bersama untuk msia, country kita semua msian sayang.

may god always be with you all and your families.

  11. And if Dato Din and Dr Kamsiah become card carrying member of DAP, that will complete the picture.

UMNO will have NO chance to survive whatsoever.

Mr Bean can join PAS… to change PAS forever too.

  12. TAHNIAH Dato’ AS & Bro. AA…saya sangat bangga & terharu…Langkah Sdra berdua, pada saya, betul2 significant ke arah masa depan Malaysia yang lebih makmur demi anak-cucu kita

  13. These two are intelligent and principled politicians. They don’t wear blinkers and will make excellent law makers, be it in the SA or Parliament.
Any rational Malaysian, not necessarily Malay, should join the DAP. Its democratic principles far exceed those of UMNO, PAS and PKR.

From now on, they will come under severe fire from UMNO media and bloggers but I am sure they can take them on with tact and finesse.

I hope this is a precursor for like-minded Malays to follow.
May I wish both of them good luck and may Allah continue to guide them.

Din, is not ‘politician material’. I don’t think he will join the DAP but he can to take a stand as ordinary DAP member with no other ambitions.

  14. …PKR?? It should be DEMOTED to a JUNIOR partner to PAS and DAP until PKR sorts itself out of the current mess.

PKR should now spend more time nurturing Nurul Izzah and help to build a strong foundation for Nurul to take over PKR leadership.

She is the only shining light in PKR. The other person who should be given strong support to rise up higher in PKR is CHEGUBARD, Badrul Hisham.

Both of them are the future of PKR.

The rest, especially Anwar and former rejects of UMNO, MCA and MIC in PKR who had totally lost the plot should just fade off or simply get out of the way quicklt,
    .

  15. A change of wadah not akidah – fanciful illustration.

” Stop telling lies about us and we can promise not to tell the truth about you (UMNO).” ,

Sakmongkol has a way with words but its the critical approached “out of the box” thoughts of the man , and a more than moderate understanding of the primary appeals of deliberative discourse that sets him apart from the many ‘ deadwood ‘ found infesting umno
Aspan , if his various write-ups by any-mean gives him in than superficially he can be describe as a person with a more conventional outlook . One who will not venture to far way from the protection that Article 153 provides

What can be said about this latest twist of events is that Umno is fast becoming yesterdays news…

One with an overdue reply is : Will this moved trigger an exodus of Malay liberals out of feudalistic bondage?

  16. Finally, a floodgate of Malay deadwood has began.

Next wave will include Dino the beano, Saifudin and mokhtaruddin lasso

  17. When is Dato Din Merican going to join DAP is a question many here would like to know.

    Mr Bean @Mongkut@scarlet@ ?????

Many also would like to know when Mongkut and Tok Cik would stand up/ erect up to face Shahrizat and her lembus . Don’t worry if any of you need help our kerbau is right here waiting.

I have had enough, Tean. Now it is time to be a member of civil society and a responsible voter.–Din Merican

  18. A sign of changing time ahead. This new year will be the start point.

Thanks for keeping the kerbau in check, tean. In case we have to take a hike bring it along with you.

  19. Both of them are loser, stupid and not relevant. Only be use as propaganda by DAP. I hope HRH Sultan tarik balik the title “Datuk” . Hmm..

  20. Now it is time to be a member of civil society and a responsible voter.–Dato Din

Perkasa is a civil society. No?

Ibrahim Ali and Kutty Supremo crowned by Perkasa as Panglima Bangsa (National Heroes). Acknowledged citzenry. No?

  21. That will give the shit to UMNO and I will be more than happy to meet my 72 Virigns.

Ibrahim of Perkasa says as an infidel you are not entitled to half a virgin. But it is never too late to go make a date with the effervescent, affable and gay Tok Mudin — not to confuse with Tok Cik. The 72 virgins would want to see confirmation that you have something in common with their Jewish neigbors.

  22. Many also would like to know when Mongkut and Tok Cik would stand up/ erect up to face Shahrizat and her lembus — Tean-Rean

Erect and then up ! That’s a double erection. I don’t think Tok Cik who sometimes morp into the legendary Apache Chief Geronimo, having been ‘dead’ and ‘at rest’ for the last ten years could rise to meet your expectation.

We are happy to see you return to lend support to your partner in crime who was about ready to throw in the towel i.e. until he learned that his blog got some 7 million hits. Have you gone to collect your honorary award for best supporting role?

    Go here http://dinmerican.wordpress.com/2012/01/01/2011-in-review-of-my-blog/

DrKam, you must know by now, is extremely protective of Dato. No can do. No won’t do.

Anybody joining PAS should seek to change PAS or forever be changed by PAS. What’s the point of selling viagra to a eunuch who doesn’t have the equipment? You would have more success selling your meat to Ms Maria Ozawa.

  24. Mr Bean @Mongkut@scarlet@ ?????

Many also would like to know when Mongkut …
    — Tean-Rean (Wat Siam’s altar boy)

Don’t forget Achmed the dead terrorist who has gone to meet his 72 virgins and found that they were not necessarily female. Then there is Sir Lancelot now in the custody of Kathy. She likes to ride and I thought it would make a good Christmas present for her.

  25. Malaysia is in a state of flux and it is about change guys. My advice to those in position of authority and power is to roll with the blow or go with the flow or be blown away. Make your choice.

All things in Malaysia are in a state of flux. Even RPK is fluxing now.–Din Merican

  26. Mr. Bean,

Me an Apache. Tok Cik , who is this animal? He sounds like Big Chief Sitting Bull, a Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux holy man who led his people as a tribal chief during years of resistance to United States government policies. He has a butler named Thai Tean who is taking care of the Kerbau.

Get serious. These two UMNO guys have gone over to DAP. Let us hope they made the right decision. I assume they have consulted Tunku Aziz who, despite his title Deputy Chairman, is nothing but a stooge. DAP is still a Chinese-led party.

  27. Me an Apache. Tok Cik , who is this animal? — geranimo

Tok Cik is no lembu. He is a retired Brig.Gen. the old soldier who never dies but refuses to fade away. His military maneuver known as the pincer movement had Shahrizat’s name on it.

About getting serious. It can’t get more serious than that. UMNO stragglers going over to the enemy!

  28. Mat, you are an idiot. You want their Datuk-ship to be stripped because they changed party? They are not in office so why does it matter? Ibrahim Ali has been party hopping for some time, did you call for the same thing on him too? You call them losers and stupid? They should thank God for taking them away from people like you.

  29. UMNO opportunists deserting a sinking UMNO ship should be made to write five 30 minute essays and answer 200 multiple choice questions on the country’s Constitution and the importance of the freedom of speech, assembly and association; and sign a bond never to wear religion on their sleeves.

  30. DD, don’t let the likes of Mat Lembu get under your skin. If they do, a good cream to use would be ‘Ichiman’ a new brand introduced by Shiseido.

  31. Ibrahim of Perkasa says as an infidel you are not entitled to half a virgin.-Mr Bean

Just give me the bottom half…

  32. I hope that more middle class Malays who are sick and tired of the
kleptocratic regime currently in power will join DAP … and PKR, PAS and PSM.

We must all work together to reclaim our country from the kleptocrats of
UMNO, MCA, MIC and the other BN component political parties.

  33. These 2 umno guys could not join PKR cos they may not be given seats in the coming GE13.So in order to have seats both decided to join DAP who are in need of malay supports. But DAP be careful, they may become katak and rejoin umno after winning the seats.so be careful.umno guys can never change.

  34. In a scenario of a hung parliament, who would be the most likely candidates to be targeted by UMNO to cross over from Pakatan?

  35. It is a strategic move by the two leaders.Dato’ Ariff and Tuan Aspan are sitting pretty on the top of over one million renegade UMNO members who did not vote for UMNO-BN in the last GE-2008.With the issue of cow princess,Felda sell out and brutality against UCSI Malay students burning like wild fire in the Malay heartland the timing of the two leaders joining DAP is going to be a real fatal blow to the survival of UMNO in their safe deposit belt if the GE is held in this March.RPK’s treacherous interview with the Utusan is of no significance to the heartland Malays. There is going to be an exodus of angry members moving out silently like glazier with or without goodies this time.Malays in great number have lost their trust with the present UMNO leaders who are tragically beyond redemption.

  36. When DSA joined UMNO in the 80’s, TDM and other UMNO VP’s welcome him. When POWER at stake, it was also TDM and his crony to chopped him with silver lining sword. Not only chopped but thrown him into lion dent… So the real intention was only become crystal clear after a decade…

  37. Come clean Ariff. I have not read any official statement from you or DAP that you have jumped ship.

Don’t be like that treacherous snake, RPK, dilly dallying for months on the border line, and in the process deceiving the public.

  38. Hopefully both of them will be able to serve Malaysians on DAP’s platform.
Both of them are crucial Malay thinkers and argues with logical sense.
I can only say the only thing that SAK47 will disagrees with DAP will be the “Allah” issue.

  39. Thrilled to know u guys join Dap. Im unaware cos. I was at indonesia…syabas..welcome on board Dap…we r hungrily waiting for the right course, so assist us be our captain..good lucks..
