Believe It or Not?

Believe It OR Not?
When I was a boy many, many years ago, growing up in Alor Setar, I used to buy Beano in addition to Captain Marvel, Superman, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse comics. In BEANO, I remember looking and laughing at the Believe It or NOT cartoons. I thought that was a passing phase in my life, until today when I came across this poster (above)in Haris Ibrahim (MCLM)’s FACEBOOK. I nearly fell off my chair. Well, I said to myself, I should share it with you, guys and gals.
How incredulous this poster can be, knowing fully well that Taib Mahmud is nothing if not corrupt to the core, that he has abused power, betrayed the trust of his people, enriched himself, his family members and cronies over several decades (I call this phenomenon Taibism) at the expense of the people of Sarawak and let his BN colleagues down badly. The Ibans,Penans and others of Sarawak too have been robbed of the Native Customary Rights, their Forests and other resources including oil. The mergastua including our close relatives, the Orang Utan and beruks too are complaining of the destruction to their habitat and sanctuary.
This woman (above left) who,I suspect, is normally polite, respectful and gentle of orang besars has to finger her beloved Ketua Menteri. This means change is coming to Sarawak, and the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues who are now campaigning very hard to win on April 16, 2011 cannot take Sarawakians for granted. This is because the Opposition Pakatan Rakyat is having a field day poking fun at the Taib Administration, drawing huge crowds to their election rallies throughout the nooks and corners of the Land of the Hornbills and winning their hearts and minds.–Din Merican

Din,
These dudes remind me of this…..Enjoy! You too Mr Bean

Mongkut Bean will have his own comic stories to tell. This poster probably beats them all. Taib is unreal or is it surreal. I wonder how the Mat from Sarawak will react to this parody of sorts. Upset perhaps since I am teasing his beloved CM.–Din Merican

Maybe they have another definition of corruption?
didi - April 11, 2011 at 10:08 pm
It’s really hard to comprehend how thick skin he is. I just wonder how he define corruption then. If he’s not corrupt, Mubarak of Egypt and Marcos must be Mother Teresas.

What can I say? I like that elderly lady and her hand gesture. She ROCKS!!!

“Maybe they have another definition of corruption?”
Depends on whether you’re using it as a verb or a noun, didi.
If a verb then it means change from good to bad. That, Buaya Putih doesn’t do. He’s bad all the way.
If you use it as a noun, it means ‘wicked’. That too he isn’t. He is kindly and loving to his friends and family. He just doesn’t give a damn to the ordinary folk, who look towards him for salvation from their miserable lot in life.
Ergo, this crocodilian is definitely not corrupt in his own view. However, we may call him: depraved, morally deteriorated, decomposed, perverted, infected, tainted, prone to bribery whether directly or indirectly and a destroyer of purity.
Anything else, i’d have to open the thesaurus again.. Meanwhile, i really appreciate “Mak Finger’s” point of view.

Yes, Dato.
Who could forget Beano and Dandy? I remember waiting with great anticipation for my dad to come home with copies of Beano and Dandy. He would throw these on the table and we would make a grab for these along with the other comic books – Flash Gordon, Superman and Batman, Billy the Kid and Buffalo Bill, Kit Carson and would spend hours marvelling at the characters.
The first copy of the first edition of Beano printed in 1938 fetched some BrPd 11,000 some years back. I bought a copy of Beano when I was in London back to Malaysia in the ’80s. Yes, it is still in print.
Such comic strips featuring those characters like Minnie the Minx, Roger etc are examples of art imitating life. There is a little of Dennis the Menace in all of us.

Yes, and let’s not forget The Beezer.

The poor woman with her middle finger raised ( a western gesture of defiance) has no clue as to what it means and must have been told it would make a good photoshoot and paid a few ringgit for it. Disgusting! Why do we Asians have to pick the worst of western values and make them our own?
Over here, they are losing their traditional values and their belief in traditional institutions like marriage, and are yearning for a return to traditional values and we are busy aping theirs.
There is a lot to be said about Asian values — like respect for elders, of filial piety, religion etc and it is sad to see these are being replaced by western ones. And the irony is that they have been there, done that and today wished they could return to traditional values while we take pride in losing ours.
Can’t we learn anything from their experience? Modernisation does not mean westernization.

” Cant we learn anything from their experience ? Modernisation does not mean westernization .” – bean.

If only George Orwell is still around (so that we can invite him to comment on this).
Phua Kai Lit - April 12, 2011 at 8:06 am
For George Orwell’s 1984:
blackwhite: The ability to accept whatever “truth” the party puts out, no matter how absurd it may be. Orwell described it as “…loyal willingness to say black is white when party discipline demands this. It also means the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know black is white, and forget that one has ever believed the contrary.”
malreported: When the Times reports a fact which the government later deemed untrue. You see, the government is never “wrong”, the paper merely reported the facts incorrectly. This term was often used in describing newspaper articles that contained references to unpersons, unfulfilled economic projections, or altered government policies.
Pornosec: Department of Minitrue. Produces the “lowest-kind” of pornography for the proles. In the Novel, it is described as a “sub-section of the Fiction Department which turned out cheap pornography for distribution among the proles. It was nicknamed Muck House by the people who worked in it”. They “produced booklets in sealed packets with titles like Spanking Stories or One Night in a Girls’ School, to be bought furtively by proletarian youths who were under the impression that they were buying something illegal.
prolefeed: Rubbishy “Entertainment” and spurious news which the Party handed out to the masses. This includes written literature, movies, porn, music, and other various propaganda created for the proles. (For a modern example of prolefeed, just turn on your television or radio. With the exception of some scientific programming, everything else is prolefeed.)

Bean,
First of all, you sure it’s originated from the west. Second, I do not believe east west thingy. Deng says regardless of white or black cat, the cat that catches mice is a good cat….
Better still, we should embrace spanish vulgarities which I am not going to share here…..Courtesy of my spanish friend……Except the word “cojones”

Taib and co anti rasuah???? hahahahahahahaha
JJx - April 12, 2011 at 9:37 am
Straits Times used to place this type of news under the heading “Just Fancy” those good ole days. The banner is one good piece for such an incredible news. This white-haired rajah is really desperate.
Bean, you missed Desperate Dan, Colonel Clot, Jonah and Dennis the Menace.
I was an avid collector of Beano and Dandy too. Pass some to Ilham. He needs them to realign his thinking.
Tok Cik - April 12, 2011 at 10:20 am
Yes, Sarawak needs many ‘Dennis the Menace’ in order to topple TS Taib Mahmud.
Hussaini Abdul Karim - April 12, 2011 at 10:23 am
Hahahaha……Many Dennis the Menace
This song is tribute to Taib Mahmud & his underlings & Najib/Rosmah & their goons

There are some Sarawak BN politicians
Who badly need the people’s votes and cooperation
So they declare they are anti-graft
Do they think the people are so daft
That this will stop the people from voting Opposition?

Decide what we want for the future. Let us be at peace with all our brothers and sisters and importantly with Nature. Do not abused or destroyed nature as things do work in a mysterious way. Let us be warned of the consequences about to take place now or in the near future. Just do the right thing. Peace be upon us.
