Stand Up for and Defend Robert Phang

January 20, 2011

Let us stand up for and defend ROBERT PHANG against ROGUES AND LIARS!

by Din Merican

Today, Malaysian Indians  of the Hindu Faith celebrate Thaipusam. Like most religious festivals which has moral significance, Hindus commemorate Thaipusam as the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel (spear) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. During Haj, Muslims throw stones at the Jamrah to commemorate Prophet Abraham’s stoning satan (the devil) who tempted him to disobey God. Religious literature is replete with such examples. It is a reminder to mankind that eventually good will overcome evil. It is a reminder that God is watching us.

In matters of state and mundane worldly affairs, we cannot, however, leave things to God to resolve for us. The Roman saying “ Give unto God what is God’s and Give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” reverberates in the same way as the Shariah’s concept of “Hablum Minallah and Hablum Minanannas” (Mankind’s relationship with God and Mankind’s relationship with his fellow Mankind).

The Rule of Law and an Ordered Society

Standing Up for Justice

Thus, to ensure that there is order in society, we have laws to govern us. As a matter of good governance, there has to be checks and balances in implementing these laws. That is what we expect in the balance between the two most powerful law enforcement agencies in the country, Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (M ACC). While PDRM is the principal law enforcement agency over all general and specific laws, we expect the MACC to ensure that PDRM does not abuse its powers or commit corruption. But we are disappointed!

PDRM-MACC Nexus

Time and time again we see PDRM and MACC working hand in glove. Instead of checking against one another, they collude with each other.

In 2007, instead of investigating reports by junior police personnel that former IGP Musa Hassan was in cahoots with the Along illegal loan shark syndicate, the MACC intimidated several Chinese informants to frame these junior policemen. It was then all too convenient for AG Gani Patail to charge them for fabrication of evidence against IGP Musa Hassan and the syndicate man, Goh Cheng Poh aka Tengku Goh went scot free.

DSP Baharain, Ken Hock and Hassan Aman: You are forgotten by PDRM, not us

Their case is still on-going and I will write about them shortly because I have just received a plea from one of their family members, a youngster, about the “penganiayaan” that they and their whole family had to suffer just because their fathers were carrying out their duties.

This child was sad that I wrote only about Dato’Ramli Yusuff and Lawyer Rosli Dahlan, only the big people. Let me tell suspended DSP Baharin Che Ros, suspended Inspector Hong Ken Hock and suspended Sergeant Major Hassan Aman that they are not forgotten. But the duty to remember them is their own Pasukan- their own PDRM which may have forsaken them!

The Teoh Beng Hock Tragedy: A Cover-Up

The MACC and PDRM also colluded in fixing up the investigation outcome of the Teoh Beng Hock Coroner’s Inquest. They had the scene of crime, they had a dead body outside of the MACC office window, they had a broken window handle which is clear evidence of Teoh being thrown out of that MACC office window, they had a list of the names of people who handled Teoh, they had senior DPPs and the Director of Prosecution of the MACC to assist the Coroner and yet the verdict was a disappointing – “We don’t know!”. This is a damning verdict on the state of justice in our country.

We see this sort of cover ups becoming more balatant of late. It is time we say we cannot have cover ups to be institutionalised. It is time we say no more!

Sanctimonious Ramon Navaratnam’s Poor Judgment

That is why there was public furor over Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam’s clearing of A-G Gani Patail over his consorting with Tajuddin Ramli’s proxy Shahidan Shafie. That is why Tan Sri Robert Phang asked A-G Gani Patail to clear the air. Instead of doing that, proxy attacks by UMNO bloggers are now being launched incessantly against Robert Phang.

Proxy Attacks on Phang

Phang is under personal attacks after he questioned the lack of action in the MAS Scandal and A-G Gani Patail’s Haj Trip with Shahidan Shafie. Obviously, AG Gani Patail, Tajudin Ramli and Shahidan Shafie are hurting badly, not because they are repentant Hajis remorseful of past evil deeds, but because of Phang’s comments. Thus, these UMNO bloggers  are working hard to defend these three and spin a new story that MAS did not lose so much money after all.

MAS’massive losses

Clearly, they are trying to make fools of the Malaysian public. Clearly they are trying to re-write history about MAS Widespread Asset Unbundling (WAU) restructuring which was implemented to get MAS out of the brink of bankruptcy. The reports of MAS losses lodged with the Police and the MACC were made by then MAS Managing Director, Dato’ Seri Idris Jala himself.

Idris Jala is now Minister in the Prime Minister’s Dept in charge of the Economic Transformation Program (ETP) for the government and of the country. Are they saying Idris lied when he made these reports? If Idris was wrong on the MAS losses, are we safe to leave our economic fortunes with this man? Is Idris now cooking the country’s economic books to present a rosy picture for PM Najib’s administration? These UMNO bloggers  spin without thinking that in the end they damage PM Dato Seri Najib’s credibility  more by their falsehoods.

As for Phang, they now accuse him of being in conspiracy with me, RPK, and a few others. Conspiracy for what? According to them, we are out to attack and discredit former IGP Musa Hassan, the MACC, and A-G Gani Patail. These proxy attackers should know that there is no need for me to attack A-G Gani or his Chambers. Just look at Dato’ Razak Musa strangulating himself in TBH’s Inquest and tell me if they have any credibility?!

What conspiracy?

Their conspiracy theory is not just preposterous but borders on the assumption that their readers are living in Bodohland. Thus, to depict that they

Gani Patail is the problem. He is mired in controversy . He is vindictive. He victimizes the innocent and protect the crooks

have supporters amongst their readers, they delete the negative comments they received and put up their own positive comments. The things these mercenary writers do!

For good measure they bring in names of people who have been victimised by the system and who are now fighting back. They dragged in Ramli Yusuff and lawyer Rosli Dahlan as part of this conspiracy theory, whereas I wrote about their cases since 2007. They dragged in Dato’ Mat Zain Ibrahim, former KL CID Chief, whereas it is only recently that Dato’ Mat Zain came into  the scene to expose Musa Hassan’s and Gani Patail’s fabrications and manipulations.

In short, these UMNO bloggers behave like a bull in a china shop, they attack anyone who speaks out against the abuses in the system. That is how skewed these UMNO bloggers are. These proxy attacks launched through anonymous blogs is an old tactic.

If Phang’s comments about A-G Gani are untrue, then A-G Gani should deny it publicly. As private citizens with civil rights, Tajuddin and Shahidan could take out legal suits for defamation and slander. As the powerful A-G, Gani Patail could institute prosecution for criminal defamation against the writers who discredited his office. There is precedence – Raja Petra Kamarudin was charged for allegedly defaming our Prime Minister’s wife, and the PM’s wife is not even a civil servant!

The A-G’s silence is deafening

One down and out ,one to go.

The AG’s silence could only mean there is much truth in the allegations of his association with Shahidan and in him being compromised over the MAS Scandal such that he NFA’d the case despite Dato’ Ramli’s written recommendation that Tajuddin should be charged for various offences.

Now they accuse Phang of bribery! The intention is clear. It is to make Phang the subject of investigation by PDRM and  MACC. A-G Gani Patail will then decide to press charges against Phang. That is what happens when you go against A-G Gani Patail. That was what happened Dato’ Ramli Yusuff and Rosli Dahlan in the MAS Scandal. Instead of going after the real crooks, they went after the Police Director and the lawyer!

But they made a big mistake in Rosli’s case and he is now fighting back. Are these bloggers, MACC and AG Gani Patail making the same mistake now by attacking Phang?

It seems so. Lone MACC dissenter Phang is not some kaki bodek like  the sanctimonious Ramon Navaratnam who would cower at such base tactics. Phang has issued a Press Statement which, surprisingly, is carried by some mainstream media like the NST and The Malay Mail today. I reproduce the full text of Phang’s statement below in which he did not mince his words.

I call on all Malaysians to rise and defend Robert Phang against these rogues and liars!

PRESS STATEMENT BY
TAN SRI DATUK ROBERT PHANG MIOW SIN. Justice of Peace
Chairman – Social Care Foundation
Panel Advisor of Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)

ON THE RECENT PERSONAL ATTACKS AGAINST ME IN ANONYMOUS BLOGS

1.    In the last two days I have been receiving many calls from friends and the media asking for my comments on the personal attacks made against me in various anonymous blogs. I have asked these callers to help me identify who these writers and blog-hosts are, but I am told that no such information are available on these blogs. In other words, these are cowards who hide their true identity. These are mercenary writers and spreaders of falsehoods as aptly described by the Malay saying “Lempar Batu Sembunyi Tangan”.

2.    It is noted that I started to come under personal attacks only recently, after I raised concerns about public perceptions on a host of issues about the lack of action in the MAS Scandal; the Attorney-General’s Haj Trip under suspicious circumstances; AG Tan Sri Gani Patail’s  relationship with the former Chairman of  MAS, Tajudin Ramli’s proxy, one Encik Shahidan Shafie;  about perceived selective prosecution; and also the disclosure of a confidential MACC meeting by Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam who announced that the AG had been cleared of any wrongdoing without any investigation. For merely asking for accountability for all these controversies that were already in the public domain, I became the subject of these attacks.

3.    Let me be clear that in all the above matters, my comments are proven justified. I have been vindicated in that the MACC now says it is investigating the MAS Scandal. It is notable that the MACC Corruption Prevention Panel, after a meeting with the Home Minister, Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, on 10 January 2011, was authorized to issue a public statement to censure its Chairman, Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, for making that unauthorised clearance of AG Gani Patail. The Panel also urged AG Gani Patail to clear the air on the issues raised in public domain with the Rakyat as soon as possible – in which he agreed to do so.

4.    In regard to the vicious attacks by these anonymous blogs against me, I can only deduce that some people have been hurt badly by my previous comments. Let me also be clear on this – my comments referred to above were based on matters that are already in the public domain. It is on record, that from day one till now, I have merely urged and invited AG to engage, explain and clear the air with the public as soon as possible.

5.    I am told that one of the stories in these anonymous blogs initially claimed that I am involved in a conspiracy to discredit former IGP Musa Hassan, AG Gani Patail and the MACC. This is such a lame and illogical allegation. Recently, to intimidate me from speaking out on issues of public importance, these blogs also created a fanciful story that I tried to corrupt a KSU of one Ministry. Very amusing stories.

6.    I say to these phantom writers – do not think I can be cowed by such delinquent and childish antics. I will not dignify these acts of cowardice seeking cheap publicity at my expense. TO BE SURE AND CLEAR, I DENY THESE VINDICTIVE STORIES OF FICTION AND IMAGINATION. The objective of these personal attacks against me is clearly to confuse and distract the public from the real issues that I have identified above. I will walk my talk. I INVITE THESE MERCENARY WRITERS TO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AND MAKE THE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST ME PUBLICLY. Do not think by doing this you can shut me up to cover up for your masters.

7.    Sincerely and humbly, I say to these cowards again – if you have the guts, identify yourselves and repeat your allegations in an open forum. Then, I will expose the liars that they are and I will take the appropriate action against them. I will continue to speak out until all these rogues are weeded out. That is my pledge.

8.    If at all there is any investigation by MACC, not only do I welcome it but I will extend my fullest corporation. THE TRUTH MUST PREVAIL.

9.    I will support MACC in their fight against corruption.

“HUMBLENESS IS GOOD VIRTUE, ARROGANCE SHALL FALL, THE MEEK WILL RULE THE WORLD”.

  1. Tan Sri Datuk Robert Phang, Sir, I salute you and I truly respect your fight against corruption.

    I stand behind ye Sir!

    keith khoo

  2. Thanks, hurricaneMax for your moral support. The court of public opinion matters. We are not spinning here, merely putting facts before Malaysians who are intelligent and responsible to judge for themselves. Those in power assume we are stupid.–Din Merican

  3. Robert Phang,

Fight to the end for justice, fair play and
    good causes!

    Peoples’ Powers are behind you

  4. It is the Prime Minister show some leadership and act firmly. Playing safe is risky. While he may appease UMNO warlords and power brokers, Najib could lose the support of the people. If he wants to get elected, then he must act decisively. Rein in UMNO bloggers and spinners because as Din says, he will lose his credibility and popularity because of the actions of these bloggers.

Fight corruption and victory will be his. No more cover-ups and whitewashes. The A-G must be suspended, investigated and if found guilty, he should be dismissed. As for Mr. Tajuddin, the MACC should hasten the investigation so that he can be charged and all monies due to MAS can be recovered. Happy Thaipusam to all. Namasste!

  5. please stand in next election !

  6. Tan sri datuk phang and datuk din merican—i salute both of you for you got the eggs. Not many people have the balls to write against those in power eventhough those in power did grieviously wrong. Nampak sangat kezaliman ag and former igp. Instead of upholding justice, having identified who they want to nail, they used their positions to manouvre and pin down those they want to nail down. Inilah namanya harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi. Kesian the other police 2 personnel yang kena aniaya (apart from Datuk Ramli and lawyer Rosli Dahalan). Sebab apa? Lain lain tak lain sebabnya ialah the quest for duniawi without consideration for ukhrawi. Saranan saya elok bagi mereka jika ag dan former igp tengok balik arti “zalim” dalam Al-Quran just to establish that they have not crossed the line that has been set dalam syariat islam. Maaf jika saya terkasar bahasa–itulah yang di dalam pemikiran saya selepas banyak membaca cerita pasal ag dan former igp ni.

  7. now they try to go after Tan Sri Robert because he dares to stand up to the corrupt officials. Nava, your balls held real tight by AG? For what reasons, only you and the AG know. But darn, we now sure know that you dont stand for the Panel on the AG dasdart behaviour. Why did you risk your reputation for the corrupts?

  8. Najib,

you allow the AG office to be contaminated just as Mahatir?

  9. Din,

We always stand on the side of the law but it is the one that are suppose to implement the law rightfully that are not doing so.

Question is other then stand up & defend so and so what else can we, the ordinary person do.

We simply cannot win when they can do anything above the law or even breaking the law.

But if we were to call for change and remove the present government, some may not like the idea. Most people are now seeing that Najib is doing right for the country, or is it really?

  10. Dear TS Phang and friends,

The Establishment’s Agenda has always been to labeled any detractor as a no hoper, joker and a rogue. Nothing new.

Unlike some commentators here, i see no change in the fundamental values of the ruling Caesars. Do not be deceived by the comestic changes of the “Whore”.

As the words of this song, which i dedicate to Robert Phang and our most gracious bloghosts Datuk Din/Datin Kam: “..we are on the road to nowhere; let’s find out where it goes..”

  11. Din and Tan Sri, my best wishes and we need prominent folks like you to stand up and give these shenanigans a good fight. The common guys in the streets are behind you all the way.

  12. Find out who they are and sue for libel.

  13. Thanks, C.L. Familiaris. The video is inspiring. Let us all find out where it goes, although the road is leading nowhere. Actually it is leading somewhere, but we will not know until we find out where it goes. That to me is the journey taken by many philosophers before us in the quest of truth, justice and freedom.

Remember Socrates and Thomas More. We all know that the end of that journey is death. After all we are mortals with expiry dates. Nobody including Mahathir and others can live forever. Arrogance ends at that point and those who believe in God know after that comes retribution.

On earth, only “The evil that men do lives after them.” (Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Mark Anthony’s Funeral Oration)–Din Merican

  14. Blogger Another Brick on the Wall has levelled his own accusations about” Loh Bert Phangs” shady dealings and shady past.Looks like theres SHIT everywhere especially amongst Tan Sri this and Tan Sri that !! Anyone we can trust in this country with BILLIONS being illegally siphoned out of this country???

  15. we’re with you TS Phang

  16. This blogger could be a hired hand; Robert Phang has asked types like him to come out in the open. I do not pay attention to bloggers like that. –Din Merican

  17. When every criminal act is exposed, the mafia will relentlessly attack civic minded citizens with their proxy attackers and ,as a result, this would open up a whole can of worms about their thuggery and rogue behaviour for the whole world to see how treacherous and dangerous they are!!!

The PDRM-MACC nexus is a Mafia of sorts. They control the politicians in power. The A-G has power under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution. Mahathir made it possible when the Late Tan Sri Mokhtar Abdullah was the A-G.

Every civil minded citizens must not be cowed by this Malaysian Mafia into submitting our livelihoods to this bunch of thugs and rougues and exercise our rights towards a better governance. We have a choice to make soon. Please make use of it wisely.

  18. I thank God for establishing good and courageous people like RPK, Din, Tan Sri Robert and the likes in Malaysia. You are fighting for the betterment of the nation. I pray that you will get the protection, strength and resources you need in your battle against the evil regime. At time, I wonder if there are enough good people to fight against the bad government which is so powerful with its control over the resources of the country. For me to see the victories we have achieved so far in an such an unfavorable odds, God must have been with us. That gives hope to see for a better Malaysia, where all races can prosper together peacefully in time to come.
    Din,
We can see a clear picture of things happening in the country from your writing. Your work is commendable. Thank you also when you write to voice out the injustice faced by those who do not know how to put it in words. You are the voice of the oppressed. Your writing has its might too. That’s why that youngster is turning to your pen to defend the family against the sword.

  19. Din, no efforts should be spared to root out Blogger Another Brick in the Wall and others bloggers for their malicious attack on Tan Sri Robert.

There is a history of PDRM/Malaysian authorities sniffing out and charging bloggers posting against the Royalty during the Perak Constitutional crisis.

Sniff out the websites where these slanderous postings are hosted and pursue legal avenues to have their real identities revealed for further actions.

Tan Sri Robert is an eminent Malaysian and with his role in Transparency International we must all stand up and suport him from being mowed down by these evil forces. IF the websites hosting the postings are in a Western Nation, there is likely to be some prominent lawyers in their jusrisdiction to do probono work to weed out these bloggers. We must not let another brave warrior fall.

  20. The PDRM-MACC nexus is a Mafia of sorts.- kakrubi56

The Sicilians should make study tour to Malaysia and learn a thing or two from UMNO.

  21. Thank you Tan Sri Robert Phang for acting in such a brave manner. You are showing an example on how we can claim back the great country that was at Merdeka.

Malaysians must speak up and stand up to be counted. It is the only way.

  22. Dato’ Din Merican,

Yes, please write about DSP Baharin Che Ros, Inspector Hong Ken Hock and SM Hassan Aman. They were the brave men in blue who dared report on former IGP Musa Hassan but ended up being charged by AG Gani Patail. Also ASP Azizul, the former ADC of Musa Hassan and ASP Meor who whistle blew on Mus Hassan. They are all now left out in the cold.

IGP Ismail Omar should give them a Pingat Polis for being true policeman acting without fear or favour. PDRM must defend its own men!

  23. Tan Sri
I am behind U all the way

  24. Mr. Phang

Who cares what shit you had in your cupboard!

It takes a lot of guts to turn back and do what you are doing. More guts than many Tun’s, Tan Sris, Datuk Seri’s and Datuk’s.

So long as you do what your conscience tells you to do for the betterment of your home country and your fellow countrymen, you can hold your head high. Your family will be proud of you. That is more than anyone can ask for.

Of course, support from your fellow countrymen will also go a long way …

    Mr Phang, I salute you!!!

  25. GODbless to you two !!

  26. Dear Robert Phang and Din Merican, you have both acted in accordance with your conscience. Throughout time, whether in the past or in the present, people have always admired and respected such courage and moral rectitude. Those in the future who come to know shall aslo hold both of you in high regard. Truth and a clear conscience set the mind and spirit free in a way common, vulgar politics and selfish intrique cannot. You are both a credit, not just to Malaysians, but to humanity.

  27. Let’s not glorify any one individual.

The fight for justice and the return to the rule of law is not the prerogative or the monopoly of the few but of the many i.e. that which belongs to all right thinking Malaysians who have any sense of decency left in them.

  28. True Malaysians & anti-corrupters will stand behind Tan Sri Robert Phang ! Tan Sri you are one hell of a gentleman bravo !

  29. The issue here is larger than Phang, Ramli or Rosli.

  30. Encik Din,

Your writings are excellent. Hopefully there are Bahasa Malaysia and other translated language versions for many more people out there to read. I still find there are people who don’t know who is Ramli Yusoff or Rosli Dahlan, let alone the fact that they had to undergo such fitnah.

With so many ignorant people around who may well continue to vote for BN, who everyone knows are the ones keeping the AG in his comfy seat, this is why BN continues to be so arrogant and high-handed in their ways.

It may even be a good idea for audio versions of your writings to be recorded just like RPK’s articles and thoughts, in order to reach out to the masses to educate them.

  31. Najib and his band of Malay mafia thugs are DESPICABLE- PLUNDERERS, MURDERERS,SWINDLERS, FRAUDSTERS. The wife of ex-president Ben Ali took out 1 1/2 tons of gold before fleeing to Saudi Arabia. Tunisians are fighting against corruption, killers, bashers, high cost of living and high unemployment and at least 68 civilians have died in their deadly street fights.
No Malaysian newspapers or internet would write about Tunisian uprising, OUT OF FEAR RAKYAT WILL RISE UP.
My 100% praise for Singapore NewsChannelAsia to write the article today. I bow down to you, Sir.
    —————–
    SINGAPORE NEWSCHANNELASIA 20.1.11
TUNIS: Tunisia’s interim president on Wednesday promised a “total break” with the past and hailed “a revolution of dignity and liberty,” as prosecutors opened a vast inquiry against the previous leader.
Investigators will look into the extensive domestic and foreign assets held by former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, who resigned abruptly on Friday and fled to Saudi Arabia after a wave of social protests against his regime.
“Together we can write a new page in the history of our country,” Foued Mebazaa said in an address to the nation in which he also vowed to ensure an amnesty for political prisoners, media freedoms and an independent judiciary.
The new government is to hold its first cabinet meeting on Thursday amid protests against the inclusion of old regime figures and for the abolition of Ben Ali’s once all-powerful Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD) party.
In his first public appearance since being sworn into office on Saturday, Mebazaa thanked the army for ensuring security during recent days of chaos.
“We have discovered those responsible for the terror in our country. We have arrested these armed gangs,” he said.
He also paid homage to “the martyrs of dignity and liberty” — a reference to the dozens of people killed in the protests.
Thousands of Tunisians rallied against the new government earlier Wednesday.
“We want a new parliament, a new constitution, a new republic! People rise up against the Ben Ali loyalists!” some 2,000 protesters chanted at a peaceful protest in the centre of Tunis — one of several around the country.
Around 30 protesters later refused to disperse as the night curfew came into force in Tunis. Police and security forces, however, showed restraint, in contrast with recent weeks when they have fired on demonstrators.
Negotiations over the inclusion of the main UGTT trade union in the new government also broke down on Wednesday, following the pull-out of four ministers Tuesday.
“We cannot take part in a government that includes symbols of the old regime,” Abdessalem Jrad, secretary general of the UGTT labor union after a meeting with Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi.
The government meanwhile gave legal status to three parties barred under the previous administration and freed a dissident journalist, Fahem Boukadous, who was sentenced to four years in prison last year for his work.
The central bank also took over a bank owned by Ben Ali’s brother-in-law in the first such move against assets controlled by the former strongman’s influential family, which formed the core of Tunisia’s business elite.
The authorities also shortened the curfew in place for several days, saying the security situation had improved. But a state of emergency banning public assemblies remained.
Traffic was visibly heavier in Tunis and some shops and offices re-opened.
Mebazaa and Ghannouchi on Tuesday quit the RCD party, which in various forms has dominated Tunisian politics and state organisations for decades and has been one of the main drivers of public anger in the streets.
But Ghannouchi and seven other ministers from the previous government under Ben Ali held on to their posts including the interior and defence ministries.
“Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water,” Tunisia’s Le Quotidien daily commented in an editorial that emphasised the new national unity government was temporary and would prepare for democratic elections.
“The participation of the RCD in this government should not be a source of discord or a stumbling block,” it said.
The tumultuous events in Tunisia — dubbed the “Jasmin Revolution” — have inspired dissidents across the Arab world and sparked protests in numerous countries including Algeria, Egypt, Jordan and Egypt.
Tunisia’s new leadership is due to hold democratic parliamentary and presidential elections in the next six months, although no dates have been set. Under the constitution, elections should be held in less than two months.
The banned Islamist Ennahdha (Awakening) movement has said it will seek to acquire legal status as a political party to take part in the elections.
One of Ben Ali’s fiercest critics, Moncef Marzouki — who has said he intends to run in the presidential election — also returned to Tunisia on Tuesday after years of exile in Paris, amid emotional scenes at Tunis airport.
On Wednesday he visited the tomb of Mohammed Bouazizi, the 26-year-old graduate forced to sell fruit and vegetables to make a living who set himself on fire last month to protest against the seizure of his stand by police.
His suicide sparked off the protests against Ben Ali’s regime.
“I’m not here for politics. I’m here to pay homage to a region thanks to which Tunisia is acquiring its freedom. It’s thanks to this region that I am here in Tunisia. It’s my duty to come here,” Marzouki told AFP.

  32. Put the governmentb on notice. If any branch of the government or law enforcement goes after Robert Phang or Din Merican we know it is a vindictive act and a retaliation for the exposure.

  33. you have my support sir!

  34. Tan Sri Datuk Robert Phang,

    We need people like you.

  35. If Tunisia’s new leaders take the road of democracy, new elections, a new constitution etc the country will end up in exactly the same mess in a few years. Instead they should announce a blueprint for development of the country and proceed to implement it with great speed.

Tunisians want jobs for their unemployed young and food – not democracy and elections. Planned properly, tourism alone can bring in vast amounts of foreign exchange with which to start their development.

  36. Sir Robert, I salute you. A towering malaysian. A giant amongst man. I will walk next to you in support against these lies and cowards.

  37. The law enforcers of Malaysia have now become law breakers/outlaws/criminals behaving like thugs, hooligans and corrupt officials.

It’s time for all Malaysians who values our democratic way of life to stand up and be counted.
In order to preserve what’s left of our democratic society, we must now be vocal and demand for a government which values the rule of law and reins in these outlaws and send them to jail and replace them with capable, honest and beyond reproach candidates in order that the public could once again respect this all important institution of the nation.

We must stand closely with Robert Phang in his fight for our nation’s integrity and to get rid of those who abuses their power for personal gains.

United we shall deliver strong message for a better enforcement institution which serves the public’s interest.

Let all of us unite/stand with Robert Phang in order that he is empowered to speak on behalf of all law abiding citizens of Malaysia!

United we shall stand tall. Divided we will never be able to deliver the needed changes to transform the unholy alliance of the bastardised PDRM-MACC conspiracy.

  38. I don’t think our Prime Minister is in full control of the government machinery. For some reason or other, he is scared of his own shadow. He is not decisive and tends to allow things to drift, leaving the little Napoleons like A-G Gani Patail and Abu Kassim at MACC to run riot. There is no accountability.

I wonder if Najib is up to the job. He can’t even control his wife, so how can he run the country. I am worried about the future of our country under his watch.

  39. I wish Deepavali will come sooner. Then we can offically launch the fight for good over evil.

Despite this the Secretary of State of the US in a fit of absentmindedness has made Malaysia the model for democracy in the ASEAN-where most of its members are in the lower end of the Democracy Scale. And then Washington gives us the title of ‘one of the leading countries responsible for the illegal outflow of foreign exchange’ through unrequited transfers.

That is how US Foreign Policy operates. They first give you the good, then the bad and the ugly is yet to come.In the midst of this the Bank Negara has nothing to say. I recall that in Many Third World Countries Members of the Association of Money Chancers9legal name for Black Market) found this way into banks and in some cases the Central Bank with the aid of politicians. We know what happened to those countries. I hope that we have not reached that stage.

But of Immediate concern is this proposal to introduce Proxy Voting by the So-Called Independent Chairman of the Election Commission. He should get the views of the public first before opening his mouth.I do not want the person who pays my salary to pressure me to make him a proxy for my vote. And why approval of the cabinet.

Is the EC simply another ministry?

  40. The new IGP should reinstate all officers and men who served without fear or favour. Comrade, you are right. Never abandon your men. –Din Merican

  41. Reinstatement is not somebody in the position of Ramli wants for himself but in lieu of reinstatement damages.

  42. “He can’t even control his wife..” Ahmad H.

But, but.. There’s a new entity called FLOM (First Lady of Malaysia) office in the PM’s dept. Surely, there must be some purpose in such a acronym?
See our tax-payers are getting their moneys worth! A monkey on our back.. Corruption and Hubris all rolled into One Whatever.

  43. Put the government on notice. If any branch of the government or law enforcement goes after Robert Phang or Din Merican, we know it is a vindictive act and a retaliation for the exposure.

    Vindictiveness is not a defense.

  44. “I wonder if Najib is up to the job. He can’t even control his wife, so how can he run the country. I am worried … ” Ahmad Hussein

An observation which is late in coming. Only about 20 years late.

  45. If vindictiveness is not a defence maybe we can file a harassment suit with a huge punitive damages amount. This is to preempt the govt and the law enforcement agencies from filing frivolous charges.

  48. Hi There !
Blogs like bigdog, million something, rocky brus,PK, spinners, hittheprik and a few more are mere attack dogs of TDM.
They discredited Paklah ,going after KJ in favour of installing a mute as the youth chief In short they are paid well to take care of their masters voice.

Best is, just read them, have a good laugh and forget them. Keep the good fight going.

  49. Are there today so few right thinking Malaysians with the courage and the decency to speak their minds on an issue that whosoever speaks out must then be elevated to the status of a demi God and others will have to kiss the ground they walk on?

What has become of Malaysians these days? Have they no cajones they could call their own that they must lick those who show theirs — however shrinkled and shrivelled these are??

  50. To Tan Sri, I salute your resolve to fight corruption and justice in the face of threats.

To Ramon Navaratnam, whatever good I had about you before have now vanished. Honestly I do not have any respect for you now because you have behaved the same way as most of the ministers; taking us for fools.

  51. Din,

Rasanya sesama bloggers UMNO depa tahu identiti masing2. TSRP boleh saman depa.

How can they come out in the open when they are either from PDRM, MACC or the AG chambers.
In this country the scums occupy the corridors of power.
Remember they even created a blog to tarnish a deputy minister!!!

  54. Like the berlin wall, the cold war and the apartheid policies umno too will come crumbling down. Nothing so bad as umno can last forever. 50 yrs is long enough. Far too long, in fact.

    Bravo Tan Sri Phang. Bravo.

  55. Dear Tan Sri Robert Phang, I pray for God’s protection upon you and your family. Please do take very good care of yourself and family wherever you go, for this country has played very dirty.
To all those who seek justice for this country, I pray that God will take care of all of you.
We indeed need to stand up for these heros who are trying to defend the country.

  56. The Malaysian ‘elites’ are also living in a climate of fear and under rule of claw especially at the very top.AG is a very powerful person not because the constitution gives him that power but the power of controlling ‘evil’ files inherited and accumulated since the Mahathir’s regime who is the master craftman of this black trade.Even Najib and the warlords have no power to put him in line for he is the Master Fileman of the Universe, you hit him he will blow you to pieces. If the AG were to demand for a security of tenure as AG he would surely got it.The AG is omnipotent despite his crocodile tears even Najib and his inner circles dare not touch him unless he is sufficiently rewarded with immunity attached. This is the reality.
Under this kind of adverse condition I salute Robert Phang and Din Merican for you are the true warriors of democracy and without leaders like you Malaysian’s road to totalitarianism and fascism would be without much obstacles.

  57. The issue is not Robert Phang, Dato Ramli Yusuff, Lawyer Rosli Dahlan, et.al, as my friend Mongkut Bean says. It is about a cabal system which will not hesitate to deny us of our fundamental rights as enshrined in our constitution and which does not respect us as individuals who are endowed with certain inalienable rights.

We Malaysians must stand for our rights. That is why I chose the picture of that little fella who had the courage to stand up against his oppressors.

Calling Phang, Lawyer Rosli, me and others “heroes” does not give us much comfort because cheering will stop when cheerleaders are threatened. Cheering on the sidelines is fun, but when the crunch comes, what?

I have seen that before. When it comes to the crunch, most Malaysians back off while others like Ramon Navaratnam never entered the area; instead they play safe by being “politically correct”. Few will soil their hands. Being in the arena (to borrow Richard Nixon) carries big risks.

Let me make it absolutely clear that I for one am not anti-Establishment. I was once part of that system, both in government and the corporate sector. But there is nothing more that I want today than a government that uses its awesome power not to repress and suppress, but one that utilises that power in the service of its citizens. There must be a symbiotic relationship between government and citizenry.

I am disappointed that in stead of more openness and greater accountability, we see corruption and abuse of power in our country and lots and lots of spin.–Din Merican

  58. The country is in short supply of people of Tan Sri Phang’s standing. The band of thieves and crooks, on the other hand, is getting larger and larger by the day. And they will stop at nothing to see their evil agenda through. If it means employing kaki bodek like Rocky Bru to do their bidding they will. After all, they reason, there’s nothing to lose but everything to gain. In the end we are the ones who have to bear the brunt of their insidious acts.

So guys, be wary of these “musuh dalam selimut”. Their network is pretty extensive. Some are among us. Smoking them out is not the issue now, detecting their movements and intents should be priority.

The few good men must be protected at all cost. If they are gone, there goes our “jihad”. This country will not go to the dogs for as long as there are people of Phang’s stature and integrity around.

The pro-Umno bloggers will continue to spin and twist facts, as they are paid to do so. They want to put Phang to pasture for obvious reasons.

The petai selller is just waiting in the wings to swoop down on poor Phang, and may be Din too. Let’s not allow this to happen.

Truth shall prevail and so will Phang and Din. We have faith in you two. Continue with the good work – keep telling the truth for truth hurts, especially to the crooks.

To the crooks, might is right. To us, truth is right.

    Cheers.

What is there to clarify? There are no name(s) attached to their blogs. They are spinners and they behave irresponsibly to just confuse the masses. It is very simple– those who can’t reveal their identities are as good as garbage writers and The “pro-somebody” types.; could it be some billionaires, past ex PMs , etc who fund these bloggers to spin and twist facts. these are mercenaries.

I believe my readers are more astute. If you want sensationalize news or articles there are plenty of click here, click here, click here types. They are not even write properly and argue rationally with their commentators. When comments which challenge them are posted, they delete them. I don’t see how we can have any intelligent discussion, just click here, read more here… etc.

“Anwarista” is a term used to refer to those who believe in DSAI’s political ideology, I suppose. Am I a Najibista , or Mahathirista as well ? 61. The petai selller is just waiting in the wings to swoop down on poor Phang, and may be Din too. Let’s not allow this to happen…Tok Cik.

Hello Tok Cik, are you sure the petai seller is not already “kecut teloq” with all the bloggers and few Ministers already looking for “kambing hitam”. The fact that he was crawling to the MACC commission on his knees, is an indicator that he is also living in fear and worry.

Moreover, his best buddy the Musang is now not there to protect him anymore.

That is why it is safer to hide your telur besar just like my friend the Great Mongkut.

  62. Err.. Din, the Establishment is always taken to mean Today. The angst is a conditional one. Therefore for all intents and purposes being anti-Establishment means a rejection of what is neing established at this moment.

The fact remains that the policies and agendas have changed little despite the hype. Deep down inside the rent-seeking, corrupt, feudalistic, hibristic and facist mentalities have not changed amongst the “Elite”. They see and hear, but do not perceive nor understand.
Many of us too have been part of the ‘System’ but some of us are able to leave while others are forced to wallow in the swill.

Yes, i agree that Robert Phang and other ‘soft targets’ must be symbols of our conscience in the wilderness. Otherwise, it will be another Tunisia in making.

  63. Din

It is a matter of record that, notwithstanding the shenanigans of the EC, at the last GE, the ruling BN lost its intractable hold on the constitution and therefore the country and the people. Come the next GE, we may see a stronger tide against the BN and unless DSN makes serious efforts to bring about real changes.

The changes must start within the BN itself. In the management and exerting control over the fanatics and warlords in BN and the crony parties, especially in Sabah & Sarawak; and by eleminating the blatant corrupt practices amongst his political cronies and calling for accountability from them! By reviewing and changing the laws taht were created in the last 50 years that give absolute top-down control and power to the cronies, ibcluding changing our system of constitutional monarchy by TDM the arch-crony! similarly DSN must review the role of the bureacracy and also eliminate the absolute power they weild over the ordinary rakyat whom they are supposed to serve. i would striongly urge DSN to stop the bureacracy from using the term “Saya yang menurut perentah”. Loke the absolute power that the civil servant AG weilds through the constitution. This power must be repealed so that he cant do what he does. The same applies to the MACC and the PDRM. this is the only way to break up the unhealthy nexus that currently exists between these three. Give the Judiciary back the dignity thatey enjoyed by eliminating political appointments who are making our system of justice a mockery throughout the world!

The actions of people like the unspeakable character Raymond Navaratnam, who has always been known to toady up to the top, must be stopped while the actionsd of brave souls like Tan Sri Phang must be emulated. The ghost bloggers of UMNO are part of the risk that we have to face and fightr. But the example of Tunisia and before that the Philippines and enen Japan should give us hope that when the people are pushed to the wall they will rise up like the tsunami. ihope Malaysia does not reach that stage. DSN must show that he has the courage of his convictions represented by his !Malaysia slogan to bring this about.

  64. Have you read Rocky’s blog? You were mentioned. He said someone told him Din must be in love with Robert or knows Robert very well to sacrifice his reputation.

Yes, I was against Badawi, his politics and policies. So was Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. I happen to be associated with PKR at that time. Everyone agrees that Badawi did not perform his job. Rockybru too was anti-Badawi. Now Rockybru is with Najib. I see nothing wrong in Rocky Bru’s change of heart.

I will continue to write about issues. Let me say to you that if the present government does thing right, I will praise them. Nobody has a license to write things that brink on defamation. They should be careful about what they write. It is a matter of time I will know who they are. But at this point in time I do not want to waste my time on them except to state that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others. 65. din merican,

Our lame ag lost pulau batu putih due to his favorite tactic of using anonymous blogs to create fictitious claims and disinformation. I remember his using of doctored photos posted by these blogs to support his claim of sovereignty over the islands, while the Singapore team brought historical documents, spatial and littoral maps, real photographs, all of which laid waste to the ag & rais’s dog & donkey show. It was a day of shame for the entire nation!

Despite this shameful debacle, the lame ag did not have the balls to resign, instead continued to pursue his trick of framing up persons who stand in his way with the help of his anonymous bloggers, details of which you have been exposing here.

I will stand behind Truth and Justice.

  75. Dear Ilham

You and the far right wing of UMNO need to realise that not everyone can be
bribed with money or intimidated into silence.

UMNO needs to carry out genuine reform in order to compete for votes from the increasingly political aware Malaysian public, not resort to the brutish Mahathirist methods of the past.

And do learn from the prosecution of people who behave abusively when in power like Pinochet, Chun Doo Hwan, Galtieri etc after more democratic regimes come to power.

  77. Rockybru too was anti-Badawi. Now Rockybru is with Najib. I see nothing wrong in Rocky Bru’s change of heart. – Dato Din

I beg to disagree. Not true. Rocky Bru did NOT have a change of heart. He played according to the tune of Mahathir. He never supported Badawi at all.

He was all the time a snake in the blanket when he was out in the cold after Badawi came to power. . He was removed from NST. When Badawi won with a landslide, like a snake, he kept his venom to himself waiting for the right occasion. He became active with all the bloggers and hid his true intentions.

When Mahathir decided turn against his successor, Badawi, that is when he began writing in his blogs anti-Badawi sentiments. True Badawi fell short of voters expectation, so were other PMs. We all know no PM in the past, even Najib, has the balls to take on the warlords. When Badawi decided to take on corruption, the UMNO cronies began to get worried and Mahathir knew he had his chance to bring down Badawi when Badawi refused to fast track Mukhriz.

The venom spit out by Rocky Bru went beyond the pale. He was ruthless against Badawi and KJ at that time.

Rocky Bru was rewarded with a Datukship and got his job back, and better, promoted as head honcho of Malay Mail when Badawi lost power. Now isn’t Rocky Bru attacking Najib for his weakness and his poor responses to allegations of his involvment inthe Altantuya case? And the lack of balls by Najib on the 1Malaysia case and Najib’s weak-knee response to PERKASA.

You and all of us, including myself, got hoodwinked and cheated by Rocky Bru , who was set up as a snake in the blanket with the bloggers by the pro Mahathir camp in UMNO when he was out in the cold.

A good research topic on Cambodia vs Malaysia!

Like Malaysia colonized by the British, Cambodia was colonized by France, both maintain Monarchy systems.

Cambodia was more advance in the earlier history since its ancient civilization spread far to Malay peninsular. and Indonesia, etc

However, Malaysia is now more advance than Cambodia which is homogeneous society whereas Malaysia, multiracial plurality. Therefore, Malaysian Chinese, Indian, etc are assets, not liabilities. Hope Ketuanan Melayu understand, not kill the hen lay golden eggs.

Pointless China bashing. Products safety are matters of concern by all countries including USA, Japan, European countries… not only China.

Learn the real China and Chinese from the Confucius Institutes established in many countries including Malaysia.
Good for you and Dato Din!

    A new status for Chinese:

  95. Dato Din,please disclose Frank’s identity, like his blog links…- rightways

    What a dumb idiot!!

  96. rightways,

Be a Malaysian first and Chinese second.

People like you are what makes Malays flock to Perkasa.

  97. rightways,

My respect goes to those whose proficiency in Bahasa is as good as their proficiency in Mandarin or Tamil or what have you. At least able to read basic Bahasa, if they cannot speak as fluently as Malays do. Take the Kelantan Chinese and Indians, their command of the Bahasa even if in the local dialect is as good as their mother tongue. Just listen to 50-60 year old Kelantan Chinese and Indian old ladies talk. They put people like you to shame. These are the people I fully support their learning of Mandarin from your Confucius Institute or whatever Institute, for all I care.

  98. What a dumb idiot!! – Frank.

You are rude again, lecture like a “kangkung professor” , as good as garbage writer, think others as idiot.

  99. think others as idiot-.rightways

    Yes, I am rude.

No, I don’t think you are an idiot.

Because you are an idiot by your request and because you don’t behave like Malaysian first and Chinese second. You are like that idiot we call the DPM.

  100. Frank ,you are being rude again, simply think others don’t know Bahasa Melayu. Your “kangkung” lectures are totally wrong without facts!

All citizens are equal under the laws. Chinese are second to none unless you want it to be treated as second class citizen. Looks like you are!

  101. Only the rotten heads think of citizens in terms of language, color and race!

  102. Only the rotten heads think of citizens in terms of language, color and race!- rightways

Now you have come around to MY way of thinking. Encouraging signs I see in you of a political maturing process.

  103. All citizens are equal under the laws. Chinese are second to none- rightways

Which law? Of Australia or NZ?

Chinese second to none? Yeah, right, in terms being among the most racist groups with the Japanese and the Jews.

  104. Frank
Kesian kat rightways. He’s posted quite a number of postings on his blog but he’s having a conversation with himself all the time. Secondly he’s posted others writing not his original thoughts. That’s why he’s asking Din where he can buy Din’s thesis and other writings. To me being an MBA he’s one dimensional in thought.

  105. Which law? Of Australia or NZ? -Frank

    Universal laws! Don’t be racist!

    Still worshiping the Great Britain?

    semper fi,
Don’t simply imitate others, start your own blog if you are Boleh, hope to link yours on WIN-WIN basis.

    Dato Din,

As I said early on this blog 23/1/11:
“A good research topic on Cambodia vs Malaysia!
Like Malaysia colonized by the British, Cambodia was colonized by France, both maintain Monarchy systems.
Cambodia was more advanced in the earlier history since its ancient civilization spread far to Malay peninsular. and Indonesia, etc
However, Malaysia is now more advanced than Cambodia which is homogeneous society whereas Malaysia, multiracial plurality. Therefore, Malaysian Chinese, Indian, etc are assets, not liabilities. Hope Ketuanan Melayu understand, not kill the hen lay golden eggs.

Can you share your thoughts/findings from your paper on Cambodia!

Please have your brief views here for the benefits of your fans.

    _________
Cambodia gained her independence from France in 1954. It was an oasis of peace and stability until 1970 when the US in hot pursuit of the Vietcong invaded Cambodian territory. Sihanouk was abroad at that time when the pro-US Lon Nol regime took over via a coup d’etat. Cambodia plunged into civil war which led to the rise of the Khmer Rouge (KR) regime of Pol Pot in 1975. Genocide followed. In 1979, the KR was overthrown by the Vietnamese.

In 1991, after the Paris Peace treaty, the civil war ended. The Vietnamese withdrew. The UN Peacekeepers were deployed to back the UNTAC (United Nations Transitional Authority for Cambodia) . Elections were held in 1993 and Cambodia under a constitutional monarch is now at peace. The Cambodians have political stability under Prime Minister Hun Sen and the country is going through a period of rapid development. Google for book titles on Cambodia.–Din Merican

I began to realise after “rightways’s” third posting on Din’s blog that the poor chap is suffering from IDS ( that is, Intellectual Deficit Syndrome”).

  107. Rightways
I have my own blog but I never try to drive traffic to it using another bloggers blog. First rule of bloggers etiquette.
Secondly I blog on different topics and not related or even related to Din’s and so no shared interest.
I visit and contribute to several blogs and are even friends with several contributors here. Often times we cross swords but that’s the main purpose to have an intelligent discourse.

  108. Dato Din,
Cambodia may surpass Malaysia again as she returns to her inner self and change!

    semper fi,
Nobody is driving the traffic to one or another blogs. It is on win-win basis, a natural process of engaging with one another with identity, for more understanding and learning, and to save time.

  109. In 1991, after the Paris Peace treaty, the civil war ended. – Dato Din

There was a 11-year Japanese funded and implemented by the UN to help resettle many of the internally displaced persons caused by the civil war. Asean countries including Malaysia sent in expertise over that 11 year period to rebuild stills and the villages. The project ended in 2004.

That project was under the purview of the Ministry of Rural Development.

Dato, a good brief on recent Cambodian history known to all. Please share your own thoughts/findings from your paper on Cambodia why Cambodia is less advance despite its ancient civilization.
