Weekend Music for All Our Friends

November 11, 2010

Friends,

Another weekend is upon us and Dr Kamsiah and I thought that after skipping a weekend with no entertainment we should play you some tunes of a bygone era, performed by some of the most outstanding voices.

We open the session with a classic Nat Cole number titled “I Need a Plan”, followed by two tunes by Old Blue Eyes. Perry Como renders Dr. Kamsiah’s favorite titled “And I Love You so”, which I hope to sing at lunch on Saturday at Cengkih, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, when some old friends will meet for a jam session. This is followed by  Tony Bennett’s rendition of one of my favorities, “Rags to Riches”.

We also wish to introduce Patrizio Buanne’ who sings two tunes for the younger set among us. These are “On Evening in Roma” and “Il Mondo”.

We truly hope you like our selection. Have another great weekend.–Dr. Kamsiah and Din Merican

Nat King Cole

Frank Sinatra

Perry Como

Johnny Mathis

Tony Bennett

  1. Din,

    Thks. for the memories…..good selection….esp.Young @ Heart,haven’t heard it for a long,long time.

Am also a “sucker” for Old Country & Western like Faded Love,I Fall to Pieces etc.

Wonderful Weekend to both of you.

  2. Din,

Today is only Thursday and your weekend start early this week.
I hope of kampung folks in Alok Staq could enjoy the weekend without having to sleep in evacuation centers again.

Mongkut, why not you come back and see Din and Dr. Kam performing live at Taman Tun. You really do not know what you are missing for being away.

    Look!

  3. Here is my favourite sambal belacan and ya budu.

  4. And don’t forget “loy krathong” in November full moon.

  5. Here is the original.

  6. Wonderful selection Din and Dr. Kam. Thanks for the memories.
Would both of you perchance be singing the ultimate “Say You’re Sorry” duet? This about as soppy as it can get:

  7. Wonderful song brother Menyalak-er . Thanks.

  8. Oh, so our very own Deano will be crooning away at Cengkih (where the heck is that?) with the evergreen ‘And I love you so”. Good. But please step aside, I will have that last dance with drkam — with ‘Didn’t I tell you so?’.

  9. Be nice. Save the last dance for me.

  10. Tean aka Lee Marvin,

Please go and video the gig and put it on Youtube.

  11. Have a great weekend Dr Kam and Din. I wish God’s protection over you and Dr Kam because you are doing a great service to M’sia. May God shower great Blessings on you both and Be present constantly in your pure endeavour. Indeed to guide us all.

Have a great weekend everyone here.

  12. I like your selection of songs. You must be like me. It is only now that I undestand the meaning of the songs that I used to sing over and over again. That some say is a sign that we have reached old age. We must not take that as a disadvantage. We must enjoy it and if possible try to make Malaysia a better place for all.

In the event you find Zainal Alam’s jingle produced for the 1959 General Elections please post it in your blog. The first few staza go like this:

I put my name onto the register
I am going to make it
I am going to make it
    Make Malaya better.

  13. Everytime I look at drkam, she’s getting younger. Din must be doing something right.

  14. Go to bed la Mongkut.
This number for your sweet dream.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUSzL2leaFM

  16. alFatihah buat pemergian Shamrin penyanyi Fotograf.. Takziah kepada isteri, anak-anak serta kaum keluarga Allahyarham. Semoga rohnya dicucuri rahmat. “Yang hidup pasti akan mati… dari Dia kita datang, kepada Dia kita kembali…”

  17. Bini org tu Asril. But cantikkan?

  18. Simple. Get one of those glue sticks by 3M, cut and paste it here.

  19. Ha ha Mongkut Bean. Teaching the kid how to cut and paste. Next teach him the 10 commandment “thou shall not covert thy neighbors wife” Hingus tak kering lagi dah nak menurat isteri orang.
Mongkut Bean et al, notice how this kiddo is playing with you guys, sometimes pretending to be a village idiot and at others times trying to argue a point from an UMNO CT perspective. He’s also playing a mind game lest you don’t realise it. Humor him guys humor him and let him expose himself.
