Weekend Entertainment: Lobo Live in Malaysia
October 16, 2010
Lobo at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands, October 15, 2010
Dr Kamsiah and I have just been back in Kuala Lumpur after a brief visit to Genting Highlands, Pahang. We were guests of Ambassador Dato Anthony Yeo, Executive Director for Human Resources, Gentings Berhad to dinner followed by a Live Performance by Roland Kent Lavoie, better known as Lobo at the Arena of Stars, Gentings Resort.
It was great feeling to witness the wholesome show by Lobo with his songs from 1970s. Lobo, as we know, is an American singer-songwriter who was successful in scoring several U.S. Top 10 hits, including “Me and You and a Dog Named Boo“, “I’d Love You to Want Me” and “Don’t Expect Me to Be Your Friend“
The 67 year old singer was in great form and gave us his best for which he received given a standing ovation when the curtain came down after 2 hours of solid star performance. So for this weekend, Dr. Kamsiah and I have chosen for your listening popular tunes by Lobo which he sang for his audience at the Arena of Stars on October 15, 2010. Please have a good weekend– Dr. Kamsiah and Din Merican.

Waaaah …. !! drkam dressed up for “Dancing with the Stars” ??

Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 2:22 am
The river has indeed turned yellow …
Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 2:28 am
There was a time when you couldn’t go anywhere be they Eastern Cabaret frequented by our Tok Cik or Time Tunnel by Shrek and The Cellar or the Latin Quarter without hearing ‘Yellow River’ played to a packed audience. At the time drkam was not even in diapers. And Din Merican? Well Din Merican was smelling around Third College, Second College being all boys college.
Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 2:37 am
Ooops … got that one wrong. DIn Merican was in D.C. chased after by Puerto Rican gals.
Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 2:40 am

Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 10:30 am
Thank you Mr. DJ Din and Second Dj Mongkut.
“How can I tell her about you” and “please don’t go are” must be Mongkut’s lagu cari makan after “that’s the way i like it” at Patpong.
tean - October 16, 2010 at 11:41 am
Mr. Mongkut always ending his wild night with this song..push it push it some more…
tean - October 16, 2010 at 11:44 am
Bean, you forget “Guantanamera” by the Sandpipers. That’s another favourite at Time Tunnel, Cellar, Tin Mines, Eastern Cabaret and BB Park.
Tok Cik - October 16, 2010 at 11:51 am
And yes, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” from Mongkut’s darling a few days later.
tean - October 16, 2010 at 11:54 am
Yes, Tok Cik this is yours
tean - October 16, 2010 at 11:55 am
Thanks, Bean. Brings back many fond memories. My Commanding Officer was so fond of this song and he kept playing the LP on the turntable in the mess over and over again. It got into our nerves. I broke the stylus one day and that was the end of our nightmare.
Tok Cik - October 16, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Tok Cik
My grandma like the song. She sang it Geran Tanah Merah bagi Geran Tanah Merah, because she lives on a Malay reserve land so geran tanah puteh.
semper fi - October 16, 2010 at 12:26 pm
In order to please Perkasa let’s play some gelek song. Otherwise they will lodge another police report.
tean - October 16, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Din must be hopping mad now that you guys took away his job as DJ. He must understand that over here jobs are scarce.
There’s nothing like a trip down memory lane when music was the food of love, gals were gals and boys were boys and no UMNO goons to tell us what to do. As an undergrad in the late 60s, my favorite drink was brandy on the rocks and vodka lime. The gals had screw drivers. Beer was when we were drowning our sorrows at pubs and not living it up in discos. The gals were dressed in mini skirts and bell bottoms – barring their bottoms to those who cared to look. And yes, we all inhaled and exhaled. They were not Malay, Chinese and Indian gals. They were just gals out for some fun on Saturday nights.
Today I will vote in any government which brings back the good times.
Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 6:57 pm
Where did the good times go??
Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 7:08 pm

Tean, mai kita naik Harley pi Nongkhai. Din, tak pa. Dia dok rumah jaga drkam.
Mr Bean - October 16, 2010 at 10:47 pm
Jadi bagaimana Sami Tean?
Hang dah siap dengan Harley hang? Nangkhai bahaya sikit. Kita mesti bawak Tok Cik kita, sedia dengan pistol dia sekali. Tapi problem Tok Cik kita … pistol dia selalu jam. Tembak tak melutup.
Mr Bean - October 17, 2010 at 12:49 am
Waah … sotong dengan beer! Lethal combination.
Mr Bean - October 17, 2010 at 12:54 am
lol … lingkop teloq Din Merican kita. Ooops blog.
Mr Bean - October 17, 2010 at 1:10 am
Give it to me, baby!!
Mr Bean - October 17, 2010 at 1:45 am
..thanks Dr. Kamsiah and Din Merican. I’ve never heard much of Lobo in the last 30yrs. he is not well known in continental Europe. when I first came here I could’nt find any Lobo lps or cd’s. you hear him very seldom on radio. thanks for all the songs and video. brings back the memories of the late 60′s and 70′s. have a wonderful Sunday all of you!
dian - October 17, 2010 at 4:27 am
Mongkut,
Harley culture and lifestyle is over for me now. If I go to Nongkhai, i will look for temples and caves where I can sit down and look into the monkeys running amok inside my own mind. Happiness is in the heart Mongkut, not on Harley or in the glasses of beer and sotong.
tean - October 17, 2010 at 12:15 pm
And what a coincidence it was. I met my friend who was blamed for breaking the stylus and suffered some harrowing moments from the irate Commanding Officer. I recapped that fateful day at the KKB officers’ mess in mid-1969. We had a good laugh and I ended up paying for the beers at Cobra Club PJ last night, Saturday, Oct 16.
Bean, semper fi, tean and Din, we all had our time. I’ve no regrets. Our kids don’t even have time for us. My son was too busy gallivanting with his new gal in Seremban to even think of his old man. His car was in the workshop so he took dad’s car. Anak bertuah….
Tok Cik - October 17, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Jangan merajuk Tok Cik, your son just want me to play this song for his old man while he is stroking his new gal. Mongkut is busy at front store.

tean - October 18, 2010 at 12:44 am
Tean, I learned my lessons the hard way.
Never date a Thai gal twice unless you want to have a relationship with her i.e. one you can never hope to wiggle your way out with your anatomy intact. In my case I was lucky to have beer poured over my head.
Mr Bean - October 18, 2010 at 12:49 am
Look what you need to do Mongkut.
tean - October 18, 2010 at 1:00 am
Next time I find myself in Bangkok, mesti bawak bomoh Siam sekali. Jampi sikit. Hang tean macam mana … ? Hang dok tunggu Din, buat apaa ..?? Dia sebok.
Mr Bean - October 18, 2010 at 1:00 am
Stop drinking?? You might as well ask me to stop breathing!
Mr Bean - October 18, 2010 at 1:03 am
Goodnite Mongkut,
This instrumental is for you.
tean - October 18, 2010 at 1:05 am
