Ibrahim Ali Versus Najib: 1Malaysia Wins

August 15, 2010

Perkasa issues Najib an Ultimatum

by Hazlan Zakaria @www.malaysiakini.com

Malay rights NGO Perkasa today told PM Najib Abdul Razak that he must do all he can to address the economic woes of Malays, or risk losing their support in the next general election.

“If nothing is done, Malays will react. They might be silent now, but they will show their displeasure at the next general election. The Malays will reject UMNO outright,” PERKASA president Ibrahim Ali told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

He warned that UMNO and the PM would lose the votes of the Malays should the government continue to kowtow to non-Malays and allow the erosion of Malay economic privileges, which he said are enshrined in the federal constitution.

“The Malays are worried by the government’s approach to spurring the economy. And the minister in charge seems to be keen in taking away what remains of Malay and bumiputera wealth,” claimed Ibrahim.

He was responding to the 12 resolutions which the MCA congress came up with yesterday, one of which demanded the reduction of the 30 percent bumiputera equity.

In addressing the Chinese Economic Congress, Najib – who is also finance minister – had given his assurances to the congress that the Foreign Investments Committee (FIC), which monitors the application of the 30 percent bumiputera equity policy, will soon be dismantled. Najib also said he would welcome more Chinese involvement in Malaysia’s economic development.

Striking a raw nerve

Both statements struck a raw nerve with Perkasa, which has been championing for Malays to be given a greater economic stake.

“I condemn and censure the demands by the congress to reduce the bumiputera 30 percent equity and for more non-Malays to be appointed into government-linked companies.”

The Pasir Mas parliamentarian argued that not many Malays are directors or are employed by the non-Malay cartels which have been given special considerations by the government, such as Robert Kuok’s sugar empire or independent power producer YTL.

As such, Ibrahim said he believes the 30 percent equity and positions reserved for Malays in GLCs are vital to ensure they have their share of the nation’s wealth.

“The Malays and bumiputeras do not want to be given only table scraps. We also want the main course of the economic stake,” said the veteran politician.

Malays, Ibrahim stressed, are no longer satisfied by mere pittance such as the occasional “duit raya”, welfare assistance doled out by the government and even the targeted RM1,500 minimum income for bumiputeras. These, he said are only “bread and butter” to Malays, who want their lion’s share.

Nazir the ‘Chinese’ hero’

Ibrahim also hit out at the PM’s brother and CIMB head Nazir Abdul Razak  for claiming that the New Economic Policy (NEP) had been ‘bastardized‘ to enrich the few.

“Nazir is talking nonsense,” snapped Ibrahim. He added that Nazir is far from qualified to make such an assessment on this or on other economic matters.

“Even if he is a banker, he is new. And we have to ask how he got to where he is today. CIMB did not become successful because of him,” Ibrahim sniped.

He added that CIMB was previously Bank Bumiputera, and was helped by state petroleum firm PETRONAS several times before it was able to stand on its own. “Let him be the Chinese hero, but I am fighting for my own race,” said Ibrahim.

  1. Malaysians who have been around long enough would know better than to let rhetorics muddy the waters.

It is not about race. It is not about you and me. It is about the collusion between Malay politicians and their lackeys and big businesses. Marx’s dialectical materialism may yet take roots in this third world country frozen in time.

  2. For Najib anything to divert attention away from the ghost of Altantuya. For Ibrahim anything to ensure his irrelevant self and PERKASA relavant !!! So Malaysians enjoy the never ending sandiwara .

  3. It is a foregone conclusion that UMNO will lose some Malay votes in next election because of corruption, cronyism,Anwar case, etc….but Idiothim Ali wants to “scare” Najib and later after election claim that it was because of his “influence” and in Najib not obeying/listening to his advice/instruction…. that there is a decline in Malay votes …. actually the Title should be “MadHatStill” Versus PM.

    Hidup Malaysia !!!

  4. I see a hidden hand, a hand belonging to one man who promised to retire quietly and not get involved. A man who still hungry for attention and power and perhaps wants his youngest son sitting up there one day. This man is evil – he is willing to throw this country down the gutter just to achieve his own personal agenda. Every Malaysian must raise an effort to condemn what he is doing at every opportunity because “all it takes for evil to triumph is for the good men to do nothing – Edmund Burke”.

  5. sentinal ,

are you inferring to the ” devil incarnate “?

  6. Whatever, this will indeed derail the plan for an early elections. UMNO will have to do a lof ot damage control. And it will be left to Muhyiddin as te DPM to do the dirty job.

There’s a clear divide now with the MCA mouth-piece giving a big splash and Utusan, the professed Malay voice, down-playing it. And the PKR will use this issue to the hilt. It cannot be help this tarik tali politics of ours where you please the Chinese, the Malays will be angry and hurt and vice-versa.

CSL is smart to use the people-pleaser Najib who to some is looked upon as a weakness.
Najib is really in a pitiful situation. He may lose out – losing Malay voters and not getting the required Chinese voters. Let’s take a ring-side seat to watch the wrestling match between MCA and UMNO from tomorrow with Ibrahim Ali as the bell-ringer.

  7. “Let him be the Chinese hero, but I am screwing for my own race,” said Ibrahim.

Ibrahim is a small fry in this screw business. You know the biggest screwer of the Malay race in UMNO!–Din Merican

  8. how can we ever reconcile a group who perpetually wants to inherit or grab whatever wealth is available while the other group intends to create wealth and be shared by all and sundry who put in their share of efforts?

  9. “Let him be the Chinese hero, ..” Sapple (stretched apple, rotten, if you will..)

Hahaha.. Sapple, O Sapple, scion of Ali Octo Baba.. your understanding of the chinapek psyche is as thin as your overstretched skin. Jibs and bro can promise the moon (not meaning PAS), but ultimately it’s the “lard” that counts! Those syphlitic clowns hunkering in this “Congress” of Sin and Depredation certainly don’t represent the run-of-mill chinapek. They are actually the one’s selling tepid ‘soup sandwiches’ to the Befuddled Brothers Razak.

No worries, dear Sapple – what has been obvious so far – is that for every stroke Jibs makes, he unstrokes the next second. Now ain’t that uncomfortable??!

  10. This is what you wrote, Sayang Bangsa:

“It cannot be help this tarik tali politics of ours where you please the Chinese, the Malays will be angry and hurt and vice-versa.”

The reason why the country is like this is because the leaders are insincere! They have been the ones guilty of employing racial factors in winning votes! If these leaders could have seen the forest instead of focusing on the trees, and do what was right for the entire populace and and the country irrespective of race, today’s situation would be different.

To me, Tun Dr Mahathir was the biggest culprit and caused the most irreparable damage to the inter-racial fabric in this country, period!

  11. To Salimah Hassan : there is no need to mention name of the devil incarnate. He will destroy this country!

  12. Bro…

    I’m back… link baru… mintak tolong tukar…

    http://perisik-rakyat.blogspot.com/

  13. In my point of view , the divisive malaysian mentality had always been the main obstacle that barricaded the expansion of malaysia thus halted socio-economic development

Jibby’s baby brother has taken the right step by voicing out all the dubious moves past leaders had mischievously undertaken which led the general populace to all the wrong directions throughout post merdeka years.

Never mind if what he says are construed as merely window dressing and a ploy to cover-up misdeeds. The least malaysians could do is to treat his remarks particularly on the abuses of the now defunct NEP as an eyeopener significantly for the ordinary malay on the street and that they’ll not be misled ever again. And to take it as genuine as the facts are with good intentions on his side.

We can’t rectify the past but we surely can the present!!

danildaud, yes we can because we have little choice if we want to stop the rot.–Din Merican

  14. sentinel ,

I think the ” devil incarnate ” already did . Like you say , the inter racial fabric in the country is already destroyed .Similarly , the institutions like the judiciary , the police force , civil service , etc. And lets not even talk about the theft from the nations coffers.

And this he considers as his legacy to the country! How sinister a mind this ” devil incarnate ” has.

  15. “….. you please the Chinese and the Malays will get angry and hurt and vice versa “. – sayang bangsa.

Sayang , there is only one way forward and that is to please all Malaysians . Then everything will fall in place .

Pleasing the Malays or the Chinese etc., alone won’t help build a strong, vibrant Malaysian nation. You only beget crooks , rogues and common thieves who collectively plunder the nation.

But pleasing Malaysians , will ultimately help build a formidable Malaysian nation and the people as Malaysians will help every racial group and in time race won’t be in a Malaysian’s nomenclature. And in time too, the Thomas Cup will be returned to Malaysia more often then not. And in time , people like Riduan Tee and his ilk too will be moved to the fringe if not buried.

Look around you at examples like South Africa where they practiced aparthied . Did it succeed? It did not . Look at Israel . Do you think they are succesful as a nation when all through their history , they have been in a state of siege and still are ? Do you think Israel can continue to exist as a nation without accommodating and learning to live with the Palestinians side by side as equals ?

Similarly, look at Australia , Canada , etc., where the ” whites only ” policy has quietly evolved and given way to a more open and practical approach towards other racial groups as human beings because the ” whites only ” policy was not only impracticable but also unsustainable .

The Ketuanan Melayu policies will definately suffer the same fate because it is not only impracticable but also unsustainable.

And last , if the pandering to racial groups only begets crooks , thieves , rogues who collectively plunder the nation off its wealth , then why continue with such policies ?

  16. Salimah Hassan,

Have you completed your thesis on “Politics of the Foreskin”? Please forward one copy to me and one copy to Din.

  17. Mr Bean ,

Thanks for remembering . It’s with my supervisor now . You and Din and a few other Malaysian friends will get a copy . Ridzuan and his ilk and the thieves , rogues and crooks will definitely not .

  18. Sayang Bangsa has already let slip what will happen. Muhyiddin Yassin apparently RELUCTANTLY will have to do the dirty job it seems. Hahhaaaaa WHAT A JOKE. Sayang Bangsa, you do mean that this is all preplanned so that Muhyiddin Yassin WILL do the job to rid of Najib so he can step in and then who will he choose as his DPM I wonder? After all we all know Najib wont be long there he is too tainted.

  19. And so I quote Mr Bean, “Let the games begin” (AGAIN?)

  20. Sayang,

I don’t understand why some of the guys think you are a female. You certainly are not. Every time I call you Sayang (the name of my former secretary) my hair stands on end!

When you deal with Salmiah Hassan, you better hold tight to your foreskin. Ooops … you lost yours a long time ago. Sorry.

  21. Salmah Hassan

Kudos. It’s nice to know that there are many accommodating Malays like you who think above race and fairness to all. You can’t find non-Malays who will be like you, if their race is the ruling party. That is why the British say we are a true gentlemen.

Only Ibrahim Ali and his ilks are the few Malays who think of Ketuanan Melayu. Actually where is the Ketuanan when Malays are weak economically. It’s better if non-Malays think like Malays and can vote for a Malay candidate. We can vote for a non-Malay candidate, but the Chinese won’t do the same.

They voted for PAS because of the DAP. with the hope that the DAP will rule the country.
That is why the MCA now is looking very racist now. The CIMB, a Malay insitution, for example are peopled by Chinese in its top management. And I don’t know whether this is true, but it’s said that more Malays are being VSSed there than the non-Malays.

Compare it to Public Bank which is Chinese controlled, where only Chinese are in the top management. We always hear the sniggers and sneers about Malays still needing tongkats to help us. Really? The only tongkat now we have is Tongkat Ali.

If tongkat is what non-Malays abhor, I wonder why they are also depending on tongkats like scholarships and other benefits enjoyed by the Malays. You call for it to be abolished, but you are also wanting the same crutch. I guess it’s not tongkat, if it is also yours for the asking.

  22. Usual BN-style divide and conquer tactics (using racial rhetoric). Notice how MCA is also using more racial rhetoric these days?

“The last refuge of the Malaysian scoundrel is racism”. We are not so easily fooled this time!

  23. Mr Bean, my ex-boss

Let me refresh you memory circa 1983. Remember when our train stops at Lexington Avenue before we climb up the escalator to Third Avenue. Remember among the many buskers, there were two effeminate guys garbed in girl’s clothings. Then there were no gays. The duo will be dedicating song to me right? Not you! So that explains a lot.

  24. C’mon clever people of Malaysia enough of all this rhetoric and race nonsense. Change the Government at the next election lah.

BTW, we would like to have a Government any B*&^%$dy Government ,as long as they are not taking the people’s money from right under their noses and rubbing it into the rakyat too whilst they do it.

  25. It is already 2010 and here in Malaysia, we are still talking and fighting about race and religion. It is a sad fact to see other nations are racing ahead while we here are fighting each other over whats mine and yours.

I’d be honest here. Let’s not dream about having a new government after GE13. It ain’t gonna happen. PR is not good enough as it also clearly lacks leaders with integrity.

I believe the only way Malaysia can change is for us to hit rock bottom first. Yes, we need to hit the bottom and then the only way forward is up. As such, we need to go bankrupt first. That will bring about real change. In wont be long. In a few years, Petronas wells will run dry and by then our economy will crash.

We need to experience real poverty because obviously being blessed with natural resources didn’t make us appreciate our nation as we prefer to squabble our race and rights etc.

Let us go bankrupt. Let us experience our Malaysian ringgit having no value at all. Let us experience paying for a packet of nasi lemak at RM15. Then maybe we can set aside all the nonsense of today and focus on change … real change

  26. What bumiputera is shitibrali is taking about, we sarawak Dayak Bumiputera what did we get??? land robbed by BN dont drag West Malaysian probelm with us in the east.

  27. Sayang Bangsa, you are caught in a time warp… ketinggalan gerabak, thats a new term I learn reading Malaysiakini last week.

Chinese and Indian students just like Malay students also need scholarships, these are from the poor families. We are talking about needs here and we should grant scholarships based on needs and merits and not based on race.

What people are unhappy about is the fact Tan Sri’s children and Dato Seri’s children all being awarded scholarships when the poor are left without these which they need badly to undertake their tertiary studies.

So I am surprised that even in a blog like Din Merican’s blog you even dare to try and spin?

As for Public Bank Berhad’s top management being 100% Chinese, it is obvious you do not know the true facts but just repeating what was written all over the pro-UMNO blogs. Again you were spinning. FYI Sayang Bangsa, it is a fact that Public Bank maintains a 30% Bumiputra employee policy… go check it out with any senior officer in any branch!

  28. Let’s assume Najib submits to Perkasa’s demands. (Most probably, he will).
NEP stays, house discount for the rich stays, AP stays, 30% equity for IPO stays, senior jobs in GLCs stays with Bumis.

Now what will happen to the Malaysian economy?

Can anyone or economic wizards here foresee the ramifications of such a scenario?
    Din, what’s you take?

  29. JJx, I am not sure the Malaysians can handle that. What will happen then as “the State has failed its people” obviously?

  30. the social fabric and the divisive politics can only continue to wreck havoc if we allow it to…I stand against it!

I respect any hard working, decent, honest person next to me…be this person be malay, chinese, indian, seranie or even a polka-dotted 1eye martian!

  31. “Let us go bankrupt.” JJx

Is that an option, bud? The way things are going we are already there: “pokkai” mentality of the regime. Our youth morph from mat rempit into mat ekzos, the education system is in an apanama warp, the social safety nets are full of holes, the legal system is a shithole, the politics in a blackhole.. Enuff of whinning, mopping, gripping and groaning. Rock is where the bottom is.

No Kathy, you’re wrong – Malaysians can handle anything! See, they are in awe of the Perseid meteor showers during Ramadhan! But the ‘spectacle’ is the same as 50yrs ago, when i was a lil’ kid. Many have adopted the attitude of ‘Cling-ons’, like Sayang. But I rather look forward to see the real Klingons land in our midst, and say: “Take me to your Foreskin!”.

    cheers.

  32. Dear Menyalak-er,

We are not there yet. Almost there, but not there yet. We can see it already but we have yet to hit rock bottom. We will soon in a couple of years.

  33. I would be glad to be wrong Menyalak-er in this case.

  34. Sentinel

Gone are the days when Chinese ice-seller kids can afford to send kids to London to study. Also middle-class Indians can send their kids to do medicine in Inida.
Why is it that the two-income Chinese family with the 2.5 children cant do that now?
Is it because of the envy that Malays are getting scholarships, so they must too though they can afford to send their kids to study abroad.
For your info, the situation is reversed now. Many middle-class Malays are sending their kids for studies abroad on their own money. They dont want scholarships no more.
So who really needs the tongkat??
About Public Bank, yep they meet the 30 per cent quota of Bumi personnel. Only in mid-level tier like branch managers.
    Not in the higher hierarchy.
Compare this to CIMB Bank where there are more Chinese in the top rung.
I’m bringing this up to show that Malays do not look at race when appointing people even if it’s Bumiputra-owned.
I have friends who work in Chinese-owned companies who complained that they are not given the same increment and same bonus as the Chinese.
Don’t talk about promotions la. It’s well-nigh impossible.

  35. ” I have friends who work in chinese owned companies who complain that they are not given the same increment and same bonus as the chinese .” _ sayang bangsa .

Sayang , there can at least be 2 good reasons for this . The first is that they just don’t deserve it . The second is that these chinese companies that you maybe referring to are not malaysian yet in mind. The chinese running these chinese companies that you are referring to are just like Ibrahim Ali , Mahathir and the other boys and girls in Perkasa and umno.

Whereas , if what you say about CIMB is right , then it is managed by Malaysian minded people. It is as simple as that .

  36. Sayang Bangsa, stop the spin. Not in Din Merican’s blog anyway.

As for scholarship, you avoided my point – award scholarships based on merits and needs, not on race. Is that happening now?

Secondly, the Chinese and Indians of yesteryears and even now could still afford to send their kids to school overseas, they struggle because they have no other choice.

But why should the abuse continue? Why should the dato seri’s children get scholarships. If at all, give it to the poorer Malays who deserve it more? Why the abuse must continue?

  37. Can we take a breather from these contentious discussions ….. and show some compassion for our fellow Human Beings who are suffering terribly in Pakistan… would Mr. Merican start a DJ Blog Disaster Fund for the Pakistan Flood victims … Please just provide a Bank Account where can deposit the money and the period ….say 10 days….before close…. no matter how little….every bit does count !!!

    Hidup Malaysia !!!

  38. These dramas by Ibrahim Ali and Chua Soi Lek remind me of the build-up to Ops Lalang in 1987 which by the way was engineered by MCA and UMNO Youth…

May be after Sodomy II, we will also be seeing Ops Lalang II soon…

  39. Does it not amaze you as to how a political nondescript such as Ibrahim can threaten the UMNO with the loss of Malay votes and, constantly raises the specter of national security and treason against anyone who dares comment on the pervasive and blatant inequalities that have infected virtually every aspect of public policy and social life? Surely, Ibrahim must realize that only madmen are predisposed to behaving the way he does. That being the case, then, have you ever wondered as to what motivates a person to invite so much public condemnation and ridicule, even from amongst those he so loudly claims to represent? As shameful as his conduct may be, it is in my opinion that having been schooled in the at of political survival and the Marchiavellian politics by his mentor, Ibrahim is well aware of the risks and consequences of his actions. Yet, he continues to remain as tenacious as a rabid dog, in his assault of all that it good and fair in public policy. Shocking? Not really. Decades of abuse of race relations and the criminal exploitation of racial sentiments by UMNO, has made it almost too convenient for any bankrupt politician, to use race and religion for their personal survival. And, being uncouth, disrespectful, dishonest and almost maniacal in his attitudes, even someone lacking in any intellectual maturity as Ibrahim, knows exactly where his next meal will be coming from.

So, regardless of what you people might think about Ibrahim, mutt-faced he may be but, I must remind you, that it is politically incorrect to differentiate one from the other just on account of how he looks or behaves; not by the mockery he does his race – although arguably, the term race has been blatantly misused in the context of our local politics – nor, on how much savagery and unsavoury tactics he employs because, as you will acknowledge, he has been encouraged into this insanity by the environment he is in today.

My reading of Ibrahim is that he is certainly more god and mentor-fearing than he has been made out to be. I am certain that he would have no reservations whatsoever with swearing on the Koran that he and the likes of Mahathir or even Samy, Ling and the rest of the political prostitutes and beggars in the BN fold, have nothing more than the interests of the poor Malays at heart or, that the only reason that they live in such opulence and vulgar extravagance, is because god had spoken to them personally and decreed that they, as his messengers, must reap the bounties that he has so generously provided them, regardless of the untold miseries and the brutal squalor and destitution that the others that their gods had ordained them to defend, suffer mercilessly.

So do not blame Ibrahim. In fact, there are many other deranged people besides him and those that subscribe to his politics, that appear in varying delusional degrees in our society.

Therefore, how can you say Ibrahim is mad, crude, uncouth or even a social misfit and an imbecile, when you have not really investigated the full extent of the malaise that inflicts our society. You are just being unkind to him. Even if he is venting his own frustrations and those of the other less unfortunate miscreants in his organisation, one should be able to emphatise with him. If he were made any better a human being, be it in form or in substance, he and the others with him, would certainly not be given to the lunacy that they have casually engage in.

And, have any of you ever sat back and reflected on how prominent Ibrahim has become. Come on. You must have heard of the letter he sent to Obama and his recent lodging of a protest note at the US Embassy. How many other mad men do you figure could be as famous as him, unless, of course, they were made prominent by other forms of notorious psychotic behavior – rapes, serial killings, etc, etc

I am sometimes shocked at the discrimination you people display. Yet, you have the nerve to label Ibrahim as a childish and freakish racist swine. Well, while I agree with the latter part of the name-calling, that which relates to his appearance but, surely, you cannot blame Ibrahim for the idiotic racist rhetoric that he so casually and unsparingly blurts.

Show some understanding. Do you not realise the environment that has influenced him to become what he is today. Any village idiot subjected to the conditioning and, worse still, as in Ibrahim’s case, given the platform and the frequent media attention he receives, would be encouraged to behave similarly. After all, what easier form of political propaganda is there but the abuse of race and religion to distract the public from far more important issues.

Are you not familiar with the history of abuses and crimes against people that evil despots, wicked dictators and political criminals had often employed to remain in power and to justify their continued reign of terror. Sometimes though, with certain leaders, there is a constant internal conflict. On one hand there is a need to remain relevant and to gain international acceptance. But, this may not buy you domestic approval. This is especially so with leaders, who have, through the systematic, unrelenting and continuous corruption of the political and social culture and values of society, regardless of the ghost that they may have inadvertently summoned in the process, that may one day return to haunt them, deceived a large section of society into believing that only they can provide for their well-being. The political life of such leaders may well depend on continuing with their brand of basal and depraved politics. When someone is forced into two such glaringly contrasting roles, how does one then manage them. Why, of course you can always enlist and rely on political strugglers who are ignorant and stupid enough to do your bidding regardless of the consequential fall-out that they may have to suffer on their own. In comes Ibrahim.

All said, I am of the opinion that all you readers have to show more compassion to Ibrahim. His is a product of environmental influences, the lies and deceit of his political masters and his own misguided beliefs of the mission his god had chosen him to perform. He is certainly not completely amoral nor one who lacks any basic humanitarian values nor ethics. He is just a small-minded ignorant person who has allowed himself to be exploited and, now that he has been given the attention by the media, is compelled to live up to the image he has so quickly created for himself. You should all understand, that being as misled as him, god will surely show him mercy on the day of reckoning. I am for one convinced that when the Christian rapture does occur, Ibrahim will be lifted up into the heavens faster than any other of God’s people.

Spare him the folly of his ways. Stop causing him more problems by providing him with so much media attention. If we all know that whatever he utters is invariably meaningless, nonsensical and lacks any level of maturity and well-reasoned arguments, why then do you keep hurting him by making him so public. Shame on the media and those that provoke him into behaving the way he does.

  40. nirwant

    Good post nirwant.
Why is Ibrahimn badly tarred when his compatriots such as Hindraf and Zao Dong are given blessngs.
This is a blatant example of double-standard.
CSL also got away scot-free when he is playing racist day-by-day for his party survival.

  41. Nirwant ,he is THE manifestatoin of everything that is wrong and gone wrong and ill in our society and political scene in Malaysia. Thats probably why.
