The Charging of Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik – It’s just a Show?
by Din Merican
On Thursday (29/7/2010), the A-G Gani Patail and his troopers smugly marched into court after word was leaked that a VVIP was to be charged in court for the PKFZ scandal. The mainstream media was ready to splash the story of how the collaboration of the MACC and Police managed to identify and prosecute Tun Dr Ling for cheating the cabinet.
RPK has already written about whether Tun Dr Ling cheated the Malaysian Government or whether it was the BN Malaysian Government that was cheating Malaysians. The cabinet papers reveal all!
Making the AG, PDRM and MACC look good
The scenario is set for the AG (Attorney-General), PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police)and the MACC to look good. The BN politicians then blare their trumpets of how clean, impartial and transparent the BN Government is. How independent the enforcement agencies have been. How the trinity of the A-G, the Police and the MACC are serious about tackling corruption. How there is no selective prosecution as shouted about by the opposition and alternative media.
MACC Top Honcho: No Comment, PKFZ is a secret(RAHSIA)
Then yesterday July 30, 2010), the MACC chief Abu Kassim said that he could not comment as the investigation is secret and to be fair to the former MCA President. MACC only wants to be fair to MCA while it attacks mercilessly the chinese in DAP and PKR. That is why Ronnie Liu, Tony Pua and Elizabeth Wong are under constant attacks.
The MCA Presidents have been nothing less than scandalous. Some 20 years ago, another MCA president, Tan Koon Swan, was charged and convicted for a financial scandal. Now we have Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik in the PKFZ scandal. Not too long ago, Dr Chua Soi Lek was the main actor in a porn movie scandal. Yet, MACC saw it fit to investigate allegations of abuse over a RM2,400/- wakil rakyat allocation which caused the death of Teoh Beng Hock. When a MAS steward was involved in the taping of his sex exploits, he was charged by the Police. But when Chua Soi Lek did the same thing, nothing happened. Instead Soi Lek became MCA president! That is the quality of men you have in the BN.
PKFZ is the biggest scam and MACC’s Abu Kassim says its a secret which needed to be protected. How come MACC sources were quoted in the Dato’ Ramli Yusuff’s case in dubbing him the “RM 27miilion Cop”? How come that story ran for months in 2007 quoting MACC sources close to the investigation giving out details of what MACC discovered? And which was not even true! How come when the charge was made for only a joy ride and some small change, the MACC considered that mission accomplished and only then went quiet?
How come MACC leaked to the mainstream media that Rosli Dahlan was the lawyer hiding Dato’ Ramli’s assets when that was not even true? How come his brutal arrest and charge was publicised one day before Hari Raya, and yet Ling Liong Sik’s case is a secret? How come the double standards? Is something amiss here? Indeed, there is double standards and this is just MACC’s Public Relations and image building exercise to spin things the MACC’s way!
Will the picture become clearer if I tell you that since Thursday, the Malaysian Law Conference (MLC) is being held at the KL Convention Centre? The day Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik was charged was “coincidentally” the opening day of the MLC. The MLC is attended by hundreds of the eminent legal brains of the world. What better way to change perception and improve image than before a congregation of the world’s best judges, lawyers and law enforcers? Brilliant plan! That’s why Fox and APCO are paid millions to capitalise on these things.
MACC re-imaging exercise
The MACC has turned the MLC into an extension of its image building road show. That is why, today at 12.45pm, MACC’s head honcho, Dato’ Abu Kassim Mohamed, will be the main speaker for the Plenary Session. So the plot in the script is pretty easy – diffuse the situation by charging a has-been politician with a Tunship and all is well. The world media will be awed. The world’s legal minds will be impressed. The opposition will be shut tight. All this is then nothing more than a show!
Anwar Ibrahim at the MLC today
And why all this show? Because at 4.15pm Anwar Ibrahim will be closing the MLC. The BN
government through the AG, the Police and the MACC wants to steal the thunder from Anwar Ibrahim. They had to do this after the PM Najib declined to open the MLC upon being told that Anwar Ibrahim would close it.
So, at the last minute the Malaysian Bar had to slot in The Honourable Michael Kirby Former Justice of the High Court of Australia to deliver the key note address on the Rule of Law.
It would be embarrassing for PM Najib to talk about the Rule of Law. Nay! it would be sheer comedy, given what is happenning in our country, given PM Najib is the central figure in the Altantuya murder, the Scorpene submarines corruption, FELDA finances and, most importantly, Sodomy II.
Sodomy II Trial resumes on August 2, 2010
No wonder, Anwar’s trial will resume on Monday August 2. Here is the opportunity to embarrass him when he appears at the MLC. Hopefully, Anwar will realise this show being put up by the AG, the Police and the MACC, and will turn the tables on them. May Anwar deliver a sterling performance in his closing speech that will receive a standing ovation.
Anwar can help re-write the script of our country so that there is genuine change; so that there is Rule of Law; so that there is truth and decency; so that there is equality amongst Malaysians as one united people regardless of colour, race, or religion; so that our country can stand tall again amongst the nations of the world. We hope and dream for all that so that we have continued faith. So that none of these is just a show!

In Malaysia …. you take a gun/parang and go into a bank you are a bank robber.
In Malaysia … you ride a m/bike and snatch some helpless old lady’s handbag, you are a no good snatch thief.
In Malaysia … if you sit in some cosy office and swindle billions of RM, you will be given titles and respect. You will be invited to fancy parties, expensive designer product launches, sip cocktail with who’s who etc.
Malaysia Boleh!

Guys,
We’ve been duped big time by Jibby and Co. But it’s none the better for me as I’ve anticipated this all along. I’ll only rejoice when Umno is out of Putrajaya.
Tok Cik - July 31, 2010 at 11:08 am
Expect more to come out of the woodwork next week? It looks as if the election campaign has started ahead of schedule. Maybe, Sarawak first.
Tok Cik, it is too early to tell who will be in Putrajaya. But it is good for your health if you go on dreaming and maybe dreams can really come true. Good weekend, pal.–Din Merican

Why r u guys angry with UMNO/ BN ??. If not for UMNO/BN since Mamak became PM and whip up race/religion /Malay special rights and Malay feudal privilages ( titles galore TUN, TAN SRI ,Datuk and value added Datuks with Seri,Wira, Panglima and all) and with non- Malays similarly lapping it up, we will not have the current class divide of rich and MARGINALSED masses. !!! There are rich and privilaged Malays living in Istanas, towkays in palaces, and chettiars in castles !! Many contributing in this blog are upper middle income with some guilt conscience but happy to be with be in the privilaged upper crust and write comments from New York, Sydney, London or wherever. So why try to kick out UMNO/BN when the going is so good!! Let the marginalised majority wallow in their misery, and continue voting UMNO/ BN so that we can maintain our upper crust lifestyle !!

Early snap election, Najib uses his last card he may be in for a surprise that this charges on LLS will backfire.
ajajal - July 31, 2010 at 12:44 pm
How come the GM of PKA OC Phang was handcuffed but this Tun Ling wasn’t? Double standards.
Sentinel - July 31, 2010 at 3:18 pm
1. Yes. It will backfire. Why charge LLS only? Why not those in UMNO particularly the top guns. The chinese will not like this. It’s not racial but Najib is selective in the charges.
2. If UMNo top guns are charged he will get the wrath of many Malays. He is in a limbo now.
3. Someone will be exposing him!

I remembered what Tun Ling liong sik said in his speach “welau woa men da huo tai” it can mean ‘for our next generation’ or ‘for our back pocket’. Now I know what he meant.

Remember the Prosecution Team of Tun Majid and Manoj in the Altantuya Murder case where they objected the very moments the names of Jibbo and the protected few being mentioned in the trial ?
The same could happened here !
The show begins !!!

This whole case about Tun being charged in court is nothing but sandiwara. Why?? Because we, Malaysians are idiots and can be had easily. Dont believe me, well take a look below:
Look at our education system, it is in the pits. Our local graduates are not wanted in the job market.
Look at Malaysians in general … look at how we drive, for example. We really have a 3rd world mentality. We are not civic minded … look at how we indiscriminately park our cars, look at how we treat our environment, we litter all over the place, we smoke even when there are NO Smoking signs …. when we cant even do the basics right, how in the world are we going to change and make Malaysia better??
China, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore etc etc are all surging ahead …. we are still fighting over race and skin colour. No wonder Singaporeans, when they come over to our country, they look down on us.
We, Malaysians have a short memory. We forget and forgive easily.
It is inevitable, we are going down.
JJx - July 31, 2010 at 4:53 pm
This is a sandiwara. I would bet that after going through all the motions of putting Ling Leong Sik on trial, the AG will purposely lose the case by omitting much of the relevant evidences that will leave ground for the judge to throw out the case.
Look at the Perwaja Steel scandal, the Atantuya murder case, the Lingam-gate scandal and you will get a feeling of how the PKFZ will end.
vsp - July 31, 2010 at 4:55 pm
IT seems incomprehensible to most sensible Malaysians who do not want to be involved in the 2 of the world’s oldest professions {prostitution and politics both of which are the same } that the Minster who is generally expected to be fed with information by his team of Idiocrats ( sorry bureaucrats) can be held liable for wrongful and misleading information fed to him. That is how the sandiwara will end eventually after lots of mud raking. Ling Liong Sik at Court reminds one of how MCA looks today. Led by a Video Sexploits chief who tried to equalise President Clinton and a mass of thieves like looking squad of leaders, the MCA is certainly in one of the professions mentioned herein earlier. It has lost its lustre and the right to represent the Chinese. It should be representing Malaysians and not the Chinese crooks hanging around with all the Tun, Tan Sri, Dato Wira, Dati mahawira, and so forth titles as if though they had led the Nation to war and excelled themselves in saving the Nation from defeat. In fact they have used and are using the dumb UMNOcrats to loot the Nation without being identified anywhere as the final looters. It is a pity that the Malays today bear the brunt for Looting and Raping the Nation and its citizens.

THE FOX AND THE HEDGEHOG
While crossing a river, a fox was driven by the current into a narrow gorge and lay there exhausted for a long time, unable to get out. To add to his miscomfort, a swam of horesflies settled all over his body and began bothering and stinging him. A hedgehog, who came wandering in that direction saw him and offered out of pity to drive away the flies that were tormenting him so much. Howerer, the fox begged him to do nothing of the sort.
” Why not?” asked the hedgehog.
” Because these flies who have attached themselves to me right now are already full and draw very little blood” he explained. ” If you were to remove them, a swarm of fresh, hungry rascals would take their place, and I would not have a drop of blood left in my body.”
Moral of the story: Better the contended bloodsucker than the eager nibblers. Aesop’s Fables.
Moral of that Moral: Could we get cold feet come GE13?

I’m looking at the pic of Anwar with Drkam. It is obvious Anwar is putting on his mischievious smile for the photographer. I wonder why.

Things coming outta the Woodwork (Kerja2-Kayu Sdn. Bhd.), Din?
Yup. Probably a cabinet reshuffle soon, with you know ‘who’ (baby cephalopod) becoming full minister of gasp(!), Miti; and the booting out of lame duck mamat whose sec. had curious ‘loose change’ in suitcase. Speculation’s rife of course.. Any bets?
Sorry to spoil surprises – but what the heck, they better shuffle the deck properly, now – not that they have a good hand, and this semi-erectile GE mode is really punishing!
Menyalak-er - July 31, 2010 at 7:03 pm
Obviously this Ling guy has been nominated as the best candidate to take the fall for the corrupt regime. I don’t care to go into the mathematical permutations to try to explain why and why him.
But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that they cannot be serious. This case is scripted and its premature demise in the early stage of the hearing is a forgone conclusion. It will not make it into the trial proper for lack of evidence. Same case as Eric Chia.
For one thing, Ling knows too much and they cannot afford him to spill the beans. But when we are dealing with a justice system that feeds off the hands of politicans and vested interests, there is always that possibility. They may be able make the charges stick and handle any collateral damage done to their reputation. In which case Ling takes the fall and spends jail time. Eighteen months maybe and out in twelve?
They are hoping after all that, interest will wane and people forget, and they may be able to preserve whatever integrity they may still have with the electorate.
But like I said earlier, if I were a betting man, I will bet on a no case to answer at the end of the preliminary hearing.
Mr Bean - July 31, 2010 at 7:37 pm
Wait lah. The show only just begun. Make a loud noise now. Shout a lot about fairness and equality by mainstream newspaper. Then, wait another 2-3 months, everything will quiet down. When case goes up to court, prosecution (government appointed no doubt) will do a bad job, and court will have no choice but to throw the case out with “Insufficient evidence”, “Prosecution has failed to produce sufficient proof”.
Hey, haven’t we seen this episode happen so many times in BN channel? All wayang only !!

Bean…Ling in JAIL ?? No way Jose !!
walter - July 31, 2010 at 9:00 pm
If they can put Anwar in jail, nothing is impossible anymore i.e. if they want to. Anwar is privy to a lot of stuff. Yet they stuffed him into jail for six years! Who would have thought??
Mr Bean - July 31, 2010 at 9:46 pm
Anwar posed a real an immediate challenge to Mahathir back then.It was about power and the premiership. Ling is retired and a has been ( and will go the way of Kasitah Gaddam) and Mat Mongol is no Mahathir !!
walter - July 31, 2010 at 10:12 pm
Show or no show, only time will tell. Let’s give credit to MACC and the police for the courage to bring him to book.
Kudos to the government for proving it’s all out to fight graft.
Lets hear from Najib when he comes back from his vacation.
But the sure thing is Ling will drag everybody’s name in the mud withh him.
It’s really shocking. All the while the alleged one was Ong Tee Keat He got scot free.

Reminds me of Nelson Mandela’s powerful speech-cum-political statement after he was convicted in 1964. Mandela said:
“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to the struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
