The PKR blame game is on

Post Hulu Selangor : The Blame Game in PKR is on
by Regina Lee
With nearly all bases covered in the post-mortem of the Hulu Selangor by-election, new allegations of internal dissent and discord have surfaced in defeated PKR.
While PAS and DAP could boast of well-oiled machinery, often borrowing experiences of party stalwarts who have seen more elections up close and personal even before many of the party workers were born, PKR is still considered a baby in politics.
And despite Opposition leader and Ketua Umum Anwar Ibrahim’s (left) iron grip on the party, and Pakatan Rakyat for that matter, there was dissent and disharmony visible.
In the run-up to the Hulu Selangor by-election, there were complaints that the PKR machinery was split into three camps: the party machinery under MB Khalid Ibrahim, the party workers mainly aligned to vice-president Azmin Ali and the candidate himself Zaid Ibrahim.
And in wake of the defeat, supporters from each sides are pointing fingers, accusing each other of being weak links.
Malaysiakini understands that many have been unhappy with Khalid’s leadership even though he was handpicked by Anwar himself to head the entire machinery for the by-election.
“He was inexperienced and inefficient. He was good at logistics, but he did not know much about anything else. Elections are not just about getting people to set up ceramah tents,” said a party source.
Khalid Ibrahim did nothing in Hulu Selangor
The source also complained that Khalid was tight with the purse strings and that he would give unrealistically low sums to run the whole eight days of campaigning.
A top PKR leader also said for the next election in Selangor, Khalid (right) would no longer be heading the team. “He is just too busy as MB. A lot of people could get away with telling him that they had done something when they had not,” said the PKR leader.
Klang MP from DAP Charles Santiago, who was tasked with canvassing the Indian votes, also said that there was just too much responsibility to be an MB and manage the party election machinery.
“There must be a separation of operations. Usually, the nerve centre of any by-election has to come from outside the circle,” he said.
The election machinery head on BN’s side was, incidentally, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Member of PKR’s political bureau S Manikavasagam, also widely known be a vocal critic of the MB, said that while he did not want to blame anyone, it was clear that he was unhappy with Khalid.
“The machinery did not start work until the by-election was announced. It should have been done the moment (late MP Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad) became very ill. Khalid said that he was willing to work 24 hours a day, but what exactly was he doing?”
Zaid headed out on his own
A news portal recently reported that Zaid, fed up with the inefficiency of the PKR machinery, headed out on his own and formed his own team to oversee the campaigning operations.
Party observers have noted that Zaid (left) went off and decided his own schedules and generally did not stick to the plan that the machinery has put in place for him.
“It looks like he doesn’t trust the party workers. His people didn’t even attend the coordination meetings.”
And at the same time, the party workers aligned to Azmin, who incidentally have had famous spats with Zaid in the past, said that Zaid did not know how to campaign.
“When Zaid visited certain areas, he didn’t even get down from the car. It even took a lot of effort just to get him to smile and shake hands with the locals,” said one of them.
It is also fairly obvious that Zaid had his own agenda on his mind and there were times when the party machinery would not know his schedule or his whereabouts.
Indeed reporters covering the by-election had to check with the party machinery and Khalid’s team for an ‘official’ itinerary, and also for Zaid’s own schedule.
Azmin is MIA
It was also curious that Azmin, who had been previously speculated to be miffed that he did not get the job to helm the campaign, was noticeably missing. But it is understandable that as chief whip, he had to hold fort at parliamentary sittings which coincided with the campaigning dates. And so the skilled orator hardly took to the stage at the ceramah.
While Azmin (right) has repeatedly stressed that there is no rift between himself and Zaid, as well as Khalid, there was not much sign of him between nomination day until the final leg of campaigning.
“In previous elections, Azmin gave 100 percent, but in this election, he didn’t. Frankly I don’t know why, maybe he was afraid Zaid might take over,” said Manikavasagam while refusing to elaborate further.
However, many of the parties, including PKR elections director Fuziah Salleh were quick to quell rumours of disunity in the ranks.
“The allegations are baseless. I don’t deny that we have our own weaknesses, but all the leaders worked very hard,” she said.
Arrogance in the office
While the PKR machinery may need to take a step back and take a further look at the machinery to improve it, much will still have to be done to keep the party in touch with the people.
Santiago also said that apart from the lack of cohesion in the machinery especially at the grassroots level, many of the MPs and assemblymen from the various folds of Pakatan Rakyat had “airs”.
“Some of the YBs think that they need an invitation to go help out with the campaigning. They would rather not go from house-to-house but prefer the ceramah circuit instead. At every night, there are five to six speakers when time is better used to meet the voters on a personal basis,” he said.
Manikavasagam also quipped: “If all the Excos think that they are federal ministers, we are finished”.
Bro
Pakatan must close ranks, put out a defcon 1 alert and start marshalling the troops for the GE 2013 confrontation.
They should not buy all these APCO paid spin about blame game designed to drive a wedge among the the Pakatan partners. One or two swallows do not make a summer no matter what $77 million of BS may put about!
in HS, 48% of voters plunked for PKR/Pakatan, the same % which voted for Pakatan as a whole in GE 2008. Maha Firaun himself has acknowledged that the sizeable opposition to the hegemony of UMNO/BN is not going to go way anytime soon.
What’ll be worrying Rosemajib, the de facto PM and her “trained economist” husband most will be not so much how to secure > 2/3 majority, but how to make sure they don’t get walloped with < 50%!!
So a la Sun Tzu, they will be preoccupied with defence and therein lies the weak chink (no pun intended) in their armour.
Pakatan should go on all out attack and carpe diem!

Fingerpointing builds up distrust, anger and divisiveness. I would like to give this article the finger. It isn’t necessary to wash dirty underwear in public. The problem stems from too much focusing of goes wrong, but seldom is there any analysis of what goes right, except for truly neutral observers. Just simple overwhelming facts are required:
* The Felda Malays were not going to lean towards PKR no matter what – and especially when the goodies thrown at them were stupendous. Even Pas could not make any headway.
* The Indians who voted for Be_end were easily impressionable. * The Chinese couldn’t be bribed, and they voted solidly for national issues and were sceptical of 1Malaise, which is mere sloganeering.
* Failure of PKR to work on the ground and serve the people, even before the necessity of a by-election.
*Be_end especially bumno are still stuck in their time honoured traditions of hypocrisy, corruption, brute force and manipulation of the instruments of federal governance.
Why do we need to be so engrossed in parochial sentiments of the few, who did or didn’t do and their perceived incompetence and neglect? Sins of omission are as bad as sins of commission.
Let the postmorten analysis be settled within the confines of PKR supreme council and their partners – we don’t want nor need to know. I, like many can’t care 2 hoots about blame games which does nothing but detract us from the big picture. As Bean would say, get a life. And that, to me means to move forward – correcting mistakes and revamp tactics and strategy. Articles such as these are reverse propaganda, used by opponents.
Seriously, i don’t need to know why you’ve got colic and diarrhoea, but you’re definitely purging your hemorrhoids out.., just go see the doctor will ya? Unnecessary descriptions of diarrhoea are just fecalent – keep the symptoms and signs to yourself!

Welcome to PKR, Dato Zaid.

Cool. I love more drama!

I agree 100% with Menyalak-er’s succinct summary of the situation in PR. I will, however, pay close attention to the Felda settlers’ sentiment, for it all depends on whether or not UMNO will honour their promises and knowing these greedy monkeys, I am pretty sure they’d rather keep the money for themselves.
I must say that I am quite curious, though, to know the real situation in PKR as it is now, especially from our brother Din here who used to be in the inner circle of PKR, but now out just like most of us who are passionate about our country here. The definite positive thing I see is that PAS & DAP are working more closely than ever. My personal preference is for Zaid Ibrahim to lead the country, for I see in him the kind of person our beloved Tunku was. The other person should be Nizar, and I feel that he stands a better of becoming our next PM.
And no, the Chinese don’t give a damn that a Chinese must have a chance to become PM in this country, they just want to live peacefully and harmoniously in this country – please bring back the old days when we didn’t care about your race or religion!

Well Barry, I am with you on this. Zaid and Nizar are definitely PM material!

Zaid and Nizar are definitely PM material!- Din
Wrong again!!! You PKR/PR supporters are losers.
Rosmah makes a better PM. Who do you think is running the country and master-minding the Hulu Selangor election. Why do you think Rosmah was in the helicopter surveying the situation above Hulu Selangor during the campaign.
Najib and his cabinet ministers?? Rosmah and her team of bomohs have been advising Najib’s cabinet since last year.Rosmah’s bomohs knew what the “jins” in the Felda areas were saying… “letak duit cepat” and Rosmah went to Najib to throw money into the Felda areas.
Who do you think advise Najib to call in APCO? You think those Muslim paranoids will want this Zionist outfit in the country. The bomohs read it well that APCO would turn Najib’s political future well.
What you PKR/PR losers do? Read Din’s blogs and those silly comments and try to outsmart Rosmah and her team of bomohs who are running UMNO and the country.

The Chinese couldn’t be bribed - Menyalak-er
What??? Say that again!!! Are you sure you didn’t shift your brain downwards towards the other end of your alimentary canal.

The Chinese couldn’t be bribed – Menyalak-er
Menyalak-er, do you know the Chinese survived the NEP in the last 40 years.
The chinese will sell off their race, their parent’s religion and destroy their cultural heritage, and bribe their way through to gain an advantage. Just ask Ridhuan Tee, that slit-eyed Chinese wanna-be Malay.
Frank - April 30, 2010 at 10:54 am
Frank,
I am beyond angry with the pig-faced witch and his ball-less m-f’king murderer bastard, pardon me French. Of course I don’t need you to remind over and over again that I am a loser. But I hope that won’t stop me from trying and hoping to see this evil regime destroyed, in my lifetime. As for my children, I am all prepared to let them leave the country to settle elsewhere. As for me and my wife, we will be buried here, so please spare this fool the constant reminder of the fool that I am.
barry - April 30, 2010 at 10:56 am
Let’s focus on GE 13. The number 13 may be not be good for some but it’s definitely good for us.
Tok Cik - April 30, 2010 at 11:14 am
Right on Tok Cik.
Any ideas on how to reach out to the recalcitrant Felda/Felcra and other rural folks? Anyone?
As for the Orang Asli, i think the Senoi ‘Praaq’ can be better employed and Tok Cik should be put in charge for both Peninsular and East Malaysia. Nothing like an old warhorse to lead the inexperienced colts. Just don’t ‘tuak’ too much with them.. As a gesture, get voluntary medical and dental teams into those places. They will appreciate this very much. Dr. Lee Boon Chye can help with this in Perak and so can other Drs. in the coalition. It is best that religious proselytizing be kept out for the time being.
Menyalak-er - April 30, 2010 at 11:48 am
One other important factor not being mentioned is the failure of Datuk Seri Anwar as the de-facto leader of PR.
These 3 factors may not be the main factors in the PR’s loss in Hulu Selangor.
The fact remains that, PR has various internal problems, if they are not being resolved, PR will definitely fail the people more, in the future.
PR should have foreseen this problem, even before the by-election itself. They should have known how important it is to retain the seat in hulu selangor. yet, the way i see it, anwar is too preoccupied (or not only him, the whole PR leaders) are obsessed with tainting the country’s image, they forget their priority is to serve people.
well, i think, the bottom line is that, politicians should serve people. Hulu Selangor is now under BN. BN will definitely make sure that it will not be lose again in the 13th GE.
good luck!!

so please spare this fool the constant reminder of the fool that I am.- barry
Barry, That is OK. Don’t feel bad. You are not alone if you think you are a fool. All Malaysian voters are born losers
The whole Malaysian voters were made absolute dumb fools and made into born losers by Najib and UMNO since 1970. The senile old man had 22 years as PM . to ensure that Malaysian voters will remain losers for another 50 years
ALL ( and I mean ALL ) Malaysian voters who voted BN (because they voted BN in the belief that BN is not corrupt and BN practises transparent governance) and PR (because they all pay taxes so that UMNO can take their money and use them to buy votes to win elections for BN candidates), should be reminded or they should remind themselves they are BORN LOSERS.
Malaysian voters have been made born losers by UMNO since 1970.
(A) For the Malays, they are born losers because they voted UMNO so that UMNOputras themselves, their families, and their cronies can be made instant millionnaires while they are fed the UNTUK BANGSA DAN AGAMA crap and work their butts off day in day out in the kampungs and in the side streets of Kg Baru.
(B) For the Chinese, they are born losers when UMNO made the Chinese shit in their pants by reminding them about May 13 and that UMNO Malays will running amok in the streets calling for the blood of the chinese, so much so that the Chinese overwhelming voted the MCA lapdogs andthe racist UMNO candidates since 1970. As a coup de grace, UMNO shit the Chinese in the face, and they pee the Chinese in the mouth by using taxes the chinese pay to buy votes from the Malays and Indians for UMNO and BN candidates.
For the Indians, they are born losers because MIC Indians think they can bodek the UMNO Malays to get one up from the Chinese, instead UMNO shit and pee them into their mouth by hijacking their power to decide who should stand for MIC in elections. And UMNO still make the Indians think it was MIC who selected Kamalanathan as the candidate. Indians are born losers because UMNO says living in poverishly in the estate is OK. Indian problems are no problems. Nothing for the UMNO cabinet to worry about because Samy Velu is there with the Maika Holding shares to help the poor Indians in the estates
Inidans are born losers of the first degree flollowed by the Chinese and then by the Malays.
UMNO pee on Samy Velu’s head so often in the last 30 years, so much so he had to have a hair transplant on his head. Go have a look at Samy Vellu crop of hair on the front of his head and compare that to 20 years ago where he had none.
So, barry, you are not alone. The rest of the Malaysian voters have been reminded by UMNO since Najib’s father’s time and now it is the son’ turn, that Malaysian voters are a bunch of born losers, and will be forever made losers as long as UMNO is running this country.
To top it al with the compliments of the coordinator of UMNO cybertroopers, Din cordially invites UMNO people like Ilham, Fatimah Zuhri and La-di-la to come in the blog and pee into the faces of the commenters here, in the name of balance.
There you go. Don’t feel sorry for yourself. In fact I feel sorry for all the voters in the country.
Frank - April 30, 2010 at 2:12 pm
“UMNO pee on Samy Velu’s head so often in the last 30 years, so much so …. ” Frank
Yeah, sure. Just don’t pee on Judge Judy’s leg and tell her it is raining. You’ll be alright.
Mr Bean - April 30, 2010 at 5:36 pm
Judge Judy is gay. She wouldn’t mind getting pee’d on the leg.

Thanks, Menyalak-er for your confidence in me leading the Senoi Peraq. But I am well pass my prime. Twenty years ago it would have been a perfect match.
Anyway, employ some of the SAS (Special Air Service) tactics in winning over the pak ciks and mak ciks in the rural areas. You have to park yourselves in the kampongs and Felda schemes and be a part of them. Mix and blend in with the rural crowd. Once they take you in confidence the battle is won.
But it’s easier said than done. I stayed for a period of time at Pos Poi and Pos Telanok in the Camerons in the early 70s. The Orang Aslis are one tough nut to crack but you can if you persist.
Tok Cik - April 30, 2010 at 7:12 pm
Tok Cik, you need not go personally. Send your gurkhas’ trained by your goodself. PR doesn’t have the required expertise – they are too much into iPods and tweeting (all of these flurs do it, as if the Felda or OA have the ability to read). No idea how to fight for hearts and minds nor counter insurgency! Modified Briggs Plan.
Form a commitee the Perak PR asap. Better talk to the REAL M.B.(Nizar) asap. The Pahang senoi are fairly well organized already but need the logistics.
Menyalak-er - April 30, 2010 at 8:51 pm
I think you guys need to decompress. Time out!

Mr Bean, I will not decompress my teloq! That will not do justice to servicing the needs of Fatimah Zuhri and La-di-la and Fiona.
