Zaid’s Wife takes the stumps
By Debra Chong in Hulu Yam (April 20, 2010)
The daggers have been drawn against Datuk Zaid Ibrahim but the PKR candidate for the Hulu Selangor by-election knows he can count on his wife to shield his back. Datin Suliana Shamsuddin, Zaid’s wife for the past 31 years, is no shrinking violet.
Unlike most politicians’ wives who appear to prefer to support their husbands from the shade, the mother-of-three grown children has been boldly campaigning for her man all over the parliamentary seat the size of Malacca, without him.
“I don’t have a problem meeting people on my own,” the slender Suliana told to reporters after campaigning for her Kelantan-born husband in the tiny sneeze-and-you’ll-miss-it Chinese village here.
“It’s hard work but satisfying,” she said, recounting the long hours she now keeps due to the extensive travel into the semi-rural seat.
The petite Perak-born showed she was indeed made of sterner stuff during her short walkabout through the village. She never once flinched or shrieked at the sight of the many strays that meandered around the street, scratching their furry bodies furiously.
Likewise, she unflinchingly tackled the thorny issue of her husband’s alleged drinking. “If you want to ask bad things, ask your enemy; if you want good things, ask your friends. It’s just part of the process,” she said, shrugging off the allegations her husband is an alcoholic and a womaniser.
“That’s over already. The main thing is what he can bring to the people,” she added. The energy and confidence with which she carried herself gave away her experience.
Suliana said she had campaigned for Zaid when he ran for the Kota Bharu parliamentary seat as an Umno man in 2004. He won it but was not fielded in the next general election. She said she was on the campaign trail this time to help introduce the locals to Zaid and convince them why they needed to vote him in as MP come Sunday. Her message, Suliana said, was simple: Zaid Ibrahim is the new hope to save Malaysia.
“He is a sincere person and not a hypocrite. He holds to the truth,” Suliana said in her speech earlier. She told the 30-odd working-class men and women who turned up with their young children that Zaid has a generous heart. She spoke of the foundation for the less privileged he had set up in Kelantan, Yayasan Orang Kurang Upaya Kelantan (Yokuk) 11 years ago.
Oh my God!!!
Fatimah Zuhri’s hero,Kamal bin Nathan, it seems lied about his qualifications, ie graduated with a Bachelors in Mass Communication from Edith Cowan University in Western Australia.
RPK might still be wrong. So far the score is RPK=1, Kamal bin Nathan=0
Go read in RPK’s piece here: http://malaysia-today.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=31320:come-again-kamal-bin-nathan&catid=20:no-holds-barred&Itemid=100087
(1) Kamal bin Nathan said he got the degree via Olympia College, but no such course Bach in Mass Comm offered by the College
(2) Cowan Univ does not offer such course for off-campus students.
Now what????
If true he lied, whose hands is he going to kiss?? Samy Velu??
Kamal bin Nathan will be showing us his degree within 24 hours.
Frank - April 21, 2010 at 11:31 pm
Kamal bin Nathan says he will post his degree on his website
pkamalanathan.com
But RPK says that website does not exist!!!
Now what again??? Whose hands is he going to kiss on this one? Ibrahim Ali’s?
Frank - April 21, 2010 at 11:35 pm
Kamal bin Nathan’s website does exist. One of RPK’s commenters corrected him. It was wrongly typed in the search.
Here is his website: http://www.pkamalanathan.com/

Sorry Din for going off topic here.
The reason is the developing story about Kamal bin Nathan’s publicly disclosed qualification that he graduated from Edith Cowan university in Mass Communications and Malaysia-Today contested Kamal bin Nathan’s claim.
Kamal bin Nathan has FaceBook in which he stated:
Grad School:
Edith Cowan ’00, Mass Communications, Public Relations
_________
Frank, there is twinning between Edith Cowan Uni and Olympia College, only with HELP University College. Kamal may be caught here.Has he a surprise for us?–Din Merican
____________
The ramification, if true he lied , is serious and may (or may not) impact on the election outcome. And that is why I am following that instead of Zaid’s wife’s walkabouts.
I am currently checking Olympia College website and Cowan University’s off shore program
Interesting… very interesting… Everybody is waiting to see his degree on his website.

Kissing the hands of the DPM is nothing. It reminds of one MIC top man who kneeled down and kissed the foot one of an indian VIP from India during the 70′s.
See how low MIC can go.

This lady Datin Suliana Shamsuddin , like her husband Zaid Ibrahim , will make a very good Member of PARLIAMENT . I am sure JUSTICE N H CHAN WILL AGREE.
peach ann nacion - April 22, 2010 at 5:20 pm
Hi peach ann, nice to have you here.
Yeah, datin sure does have a nice warm blooded smile. Much better than the pinched facies of her hubby. But one thing at a time. It’s unfortunate that Kak Wan can’t stand for the GE 13..
I generally think that women MP’s are more diligent, and less prone to the ‘the cojone big-bigger-biggest’ snafus.

Here is the Edith Cowan University where you can check names of graduates from the university.
Olympia College Academic Direct Tan Chee Seng said it is possible ECU does not keep records of off-campus students who have graduated from ECU. I think that is pretty ridiculous because Kamala bin Nathan’s degree bear the name and logo of ECU and signed by ECU authorities.
The page is: ECU Graduates Verification Service:
You try and fill in the details on the search-form to see whether his name comes up.
I tried but I couldn’t get a positve response from the search-engine of ECU
Here is the link:
https://simo.ecu.edu.au/ecudev_calprod/ecu_graduates.jsp
Have a go to see whether RPK could be wrong.
Frank - April 22, 2010 at 11:09 pm
Frank, i don’t think RPK’s ‘barking’ is gonna make a dent on this flurs candidacy. Although it makes us pretty sick to watch this lying sod bamboozle the common folk – his audience can’t see the lies as it is. They have been immunized to all these chicaneries over the years of corruption and misrule. All they want is their washing machines. It’s always about short-term gains and they don’t care 2 hoots about the big picture.
Imagine being a ‘longkang’ MP. They can’t even differentiate between the functions an MP and state assemblyman. The only thing is that the PKR/PAS spiritual leaders (esp. Tok Nik and A.Hadi), play this up for all it’s worth especially to the younger audiences.
Btw take a breather, ‘cos you will have to run the marathon for the next 3 days. Rest well.
Menyalak-er - April 23, 2010 at 1:54 am
Kamal bin Nathan actually got the degree in Cpmmunications from Cowan Univ.
I checked. The input in the search engine should be:
Exact family name: P.Kamalanathan/P.Panchanathan
leave given name blank
put award as: Bachelor
The result is positive
