PKR Candidates for Next General Elections will be unwavering, strong, and clean
February 16, 2010
“We will be extra careful in our choice of candidates for the coming general elections”, says Anwar Ibrahim
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim admitted in Penang today to have wrongly picked some
candidates to be the party’s parliamentary elected representatives in the last general election in 2008.
Anwar, who is the Opposition Leader, said the party would be extra careful in the selection of electoral candidates in coming general elections, ensuring that they were unwavering, strong and clean.
“I selected the candidates for the parliamentary seats. PKR was new then. We had to field them,” he said when speaking at a Chinese New Year celebration organised by PKR here.
Last week, Bayan Baru MP and former Penang PKR chairman Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim resigned from the party, citing disappointment over the leadership of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and the PKR struggle within the opposition pact. — Bernama
Yes, at the coming 13GE, please select dedicated candidates. Not the ones join, gets elected and then make all kinds of wild allegations. These are the people that bite the hands that feeds them. With casreful grooming, you will dedinitely get good candidates. Remember, the Rakyat are for PR. dCheers.

That’s the problem. In the mean time they are free to do their leap frogging for a fee which runs in the millions and all paid for with taxpayer money. They are not there to represent their constituents but themselves, for their fifteen minutes of fame and the fortune that follows.
It is like flipping a coin. Tails I win, heads you lose.

Jefferi78,
Thanks for your input and welcome. I agree with your observation. The selection process may be rigorous, but there is no way we can be sure that we have got the best. Credentials may be excellent, but people can change with power and circumstances. –Din Merican

It’s one hell of a learning process, one which will impact the way PKR picks its candidates in the future.
There are many Jamaluddins, Osmans, Zulkiflis and Zahrains in the midst. And even at this material moment some maybe eying at the prospect of defecting if the pickings are good.
These frogs are history by GE 13 but they would have made a pile out of their action. A pile which is beyond their wildest dream.
I suggest PKR picks its candidates based on their sincerity, honesty and dedication. The selection process must be fool-proof. You can still pick a Hee, a Jamaluddin and a Osman from the current crop of leaders.
I’d the opportunity of interacting with these froggies well before their defection. I doubted their loyalty right from the word “go”.

Unfortunately they always come with a price tag.
The only solution would be to amend our party-hopping laws. You can party-hop but you’ll have to resign and vacate your seats in the legislative assemblies and stand for elections afresh. Some of your constituents may have voted for you along party lines and some along personal lines and it is incumbent upon you to seek their fresh mandate.

Would Pakatan be willing to amend the country’s party-hopping laws when and if they manage to take over Putrajaya? It remains to be seen.
Mr Bean - February 17, 2010 at 9:53 pm
Had there been frogs within the BN fold (re:Umno) anti-hopping law would have bee passed a long time ago. Since it’s a double-edge weapon which benefits both sides such law remains in the pipeline.
