Al Jazeera on ISA
In case you missed the Al Jazeera show on the ISA and the August 1 demonstration, watch here for exceptional spinning by Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and a relatively more balanced view presented by Datuk Zaid Ibrahim. Particularly disturbing was the explanation given by the pro-ISA NGO arguing that the ISA is in fact in place to preserve Malay power. And how?

“How can they work together when they have so many opposing ideas, only Anwar has succeeded in deceiving the two parties to push his own agenda … DAP and PAS are being used by him,” Mahathir
The first allegation made against PR is obvious. We need no further education on it. PAS remains PR’s Achilles’ heel and, in my opinion, an arrow sooner than later will find its way. As for DAP and PAS being made use of by Anwar, that too is obvious. They all use each other. We all do. What’s wrong with that??
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Wasted my time watching this. KJ portrays the biggest hypocrite in the Guiness Book of Records ever, talking thru his posterior end, as usual, and hope to impress & convince idiots.
pat ling - August 10, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Din, the repeated posts by the spoofer il-ham is getting out of ham. There’s nothing edifying in them, besides they’re only worthy for landfills and the imhoff septic tank.
Sorry to say i couldn’t bring myself to watch the manga cartoons above, but i trust Bean and pat ling are right.
There’s another thing, i ought to mention – the H1N1 thingy that dear leader had just noticed – as if for the first time!
It’s too late because the infra-biologist Liow-Chi (finished) and the DG Ismail M. (should be replaced asap) – who were using it as a political tool to distract the masses from the worm infested gomen shenanigans, don’t understand basic epidemiology.
While this scare mongering is going on, i believe that the prevalent ‘flu strain now is rais’in’s “selesema babi”, instead of H3N2. Guess why there’s a shortage of Tamiflu/Relenza? It’s controlled by MOH, via bumno.
By Oct. we won’t need the new H1N1 immunization, ‘cos we’ll have had naturally acquired ‘immunization’, due to its high infectivity rates and of course, thanks to those bumblers.
No worries though – but i do wish PR’s ‘shadow’ Health Min. comes out with a proper statement instead of relying on this ‘alternative medicine men’.

Bean,
Our blog host is busy ” kampai” for closer relations between Malaysia and a small red dot country. Why not you take over as DJ for now before he come back.
Let me start with Dayung sampan to Pulau Batu Putih by the late Teresa Teng.
tean - August 10, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Not a good interview. The interviewer perhaps unwittingly, allowed KJ to get away from very salient points raised in rebuttal.
But Zaid is wrong when he says our constitution allows for freedom of speech, assembly and association. If that is the case, then the plethora of legislation that has mushroomed over the years circumscribing our fundamental liberties would be void ab initio as being ultra vires the constitution.
There is this common misperception that has gone on too long that our country i.e. our constitution, allows for freedom of speech, assembly and association. It does not.
The above notwithstanding, it is the basic principle of English common law which we follow that a person accused of a crime or a wrongdoing must be given a reasonable opportunity to be heard. By not letting the detainee know why he was detained, without the need to show any evidence at all and refusing the detainee a timely access to counsel and with his detention made final simply by the Minister issuing his written order, an order which cannot be challenged by the country’s courts, for one it makes a mockery of our judicial system. There are so many constitutional issues involved. The doctrine of separation of powers and independence of the judiciary is only one.
If we want to have a game, let us play by the rules.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 9:10 pm
tean,
Our blog host has reminded us that it is Monday – and it is now Monday evening over in KL but only Monday morning over here. I see you’re still on Teresa Teng mode. Din Merican says we have to run in order to stand still – and you’re standing still with Teresa Teng. Good thing it’s not Mother Theresa.
I have given Dr Kam an assignment. Let’s see if she does it tonight when Din Merican renews his old boy network at The ShangriLa.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 9:19 pm
I’m so used to hearing the Mandarin version of the song that I thought it was in Mandarin.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Najib suggested that the protesters should use the proper venue like stadium. He cannot understand the right to assemble as guaranteed by constitutions said Zaid.
In other word, Najib said you can have the right to have sex but make sure the sperm should not flow out of the condom. Just do whatever you want until 2 a.m but make sure the sperm is blocked. He cannot understand that it is the fundamental rights of every man and women to have sex if they so wish.
tean - August 10, 2009 at 9:27 pm
I just learned that Din Merican is going to the ShangriLa tonight without his better half. That is a serious breach of protocol …! Don’t you think?
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 9:32 pm
“Najib said you can have the right to have sex but make sure the sperm should not flow out of the condom. Just do whatever you want until 2 a.m but make sure the sperm is blocked. He cannot understand that it is the fundamental rights of every man and women to have sex if they so wish.” tean
He says there is no interest for premature withdrawal.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 9:36 pm
That is a serious breach of protocol …!
Not really. Din is not representing the host country, he is there as a guest.
With A H1N1 scare everywhere Dr. Kam surely better informed than most of us. Unfortunately, her job is really at the front line of the war.
tean - August 10, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I don’t mean protocol protocol.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 9:49 pm
Attending a cocktail reception without one’s better half? Din Merican is not using the best asset he has.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Pat Ling, what about this guy?
This was what Anwar said about the ISA on 24 May 1994 when he was Deputy Prime Minister while officiating a “Mesyuarat Agung Antarabangsa ke 27, Majlis Ekonomi Lembangan Pasifik (PBEC)” in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar Ibrahim said:
“Walaupun keadaan dalam negara sekarang adalah baik, namun tidak dapat dinafikan kemungkinan berlakunya ketegangan. Dalam keadaan seperti itu kebijaksanaan untuk mempertahankan ISA adalah perlu demi keamanan negara. Adalah tidak wajar untuk menghapuskan Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA) yang terbukti berkesan membawa keamanan dan kemakmuran di negara ini.”
On 28th Oktober 1987, Anwar’s statement when he was Education Minister on the arrest under ISA of both BN and Opposition members during Operation Lallang:
“The goverment’s decision to ban all public rallies showed that it placed national security above the aspirations of certain politicians and political parties…..The government’s actions were carefully planned and placed priority on national interest not that of any particular group. There can be no compromise on national security in a multiracial country like ours.”
Fast forward to 1st August 2009, this is what Anwar Ibrahim defacto Opposition Leader and wannabe PM said in the anti ISA demonstration:
“We gather today to fight a cruel law under a cruel administration..”
___________
Ibrahim, that was long ago (1987). The man has changed and so has time. I could quote your statements by UMNO leaders including Mahathir’s that are contradictory and paradoxical.
National security yes, but NO to using the ISA against opposition politicians and ordinary citizens and bloggers, who criticize government policy and expose abuses of power and corruption in the present government—Din Merican

Protection of capital is the no 1 rule to survive in this competitive world. If you can avoid the risk why not?
A piece of good news for you Bean, your USD is moving higher than Ms. Ozawa’s yen. It is 97 yen to a dollar now.
tean - August 10, 2009 at 10:03 pm
What’s Yen to Ringgit?
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:10 pm
The doctrine of separation of powers ?
You have legislative, judiciary , executive and Raja in the doctrine of separation of powers. Just wonder where che mah chot fit in? Your wisdom dr. Bean?
tean - August 10, 2009 at 10:10 pm
What’s your current exposure to USDLS?
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:12 pm
100 yen is RM 3.60
tean - August 10, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Che Mah Chot fits snuggly in between.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Good Lord! Used to Y100: MR0.88
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Che Mah Chot fits snuggly in between.!!
Tok Cik and Din, can you confirmed what dr. Bean stated
tean - August 10, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Anyway since my earnings are in USDLRS and exposure to MR is nil, I could still afford to attend Ms. Ozawa’s English lessons!
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:18 pm
You must be talking about the time when a bowl of noodle at lorong pipit telok wanjah only cost 25 sen. Now the same bowl is worth 2.80 in lorong pipit and 4.80 in K.L
tean - August 10, 2009 at 10:19 pm
MR is not an international currency and you cannot open back to back LCs in MR – otherwise known to the financial circle as the ‘Anwar LC’.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Where the hell is lorong pipit? I only know Bulatan Wan Jah and Lorong Selak Kain.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:24 pm
I don’t know what Tok Cik has to say about Belakang Mati.

Shrek’s Batang Berjuntai looks more fun to me.
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:27 pm
RM is not traded freely. Bank Negara just rename Petronas Bond as “emas” dollar bond” to compete with Ms/ Ozawa’s “Samurai Bond” and the “maple” of Canada.
So a new meaning of “emas” when you come back home Bean.
BTW, Najib just said that he hopes that our GDP growth next year would be around 6 percent.
tean - August 10, 2009 at 10:32 pm
It would be good if the pumping and the stimulating efforts can move the econ.
tean - August 10, 2009 at 10:36 pm
“RM is not traded freely”
You cannot have off-shore accounts in ringgit.

How much of USDLS T/Cs are you allowed to bring with you on the plane?
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:40 pm
The last time I passed through Bangkok Airport their customs had my attache case prised open looking for USDLS. The last time I passed through Perth, customs looked at my toothpaste. The last time I showed my passport to a bank in Jakarta the teller held up my Malaysian passport to see if it was fake.
What’s happening today??
Mr Bean - August 10, 2009 at 10:45 pm
How much of USDLS T/Cs are you allowed to bring with you on the plane?
Mike Tyson carried millions in cash to Australia while Daim is operating Banks in Africa, surely they have no limit.

The message then was Malaysians are known for money laundering, drugs and fraud. There was no human tafficking involving Malaysians yet then.

Today, before the air stewardess serving you, she will ask you
“Mr. Bean, you Malaysian, you no pig, you cow?
Meaning you don’t want pork but beef.

Huh, once at Sydney airport, I saw they checked a Malaysian passenger’s passport chip to see if it contained ‘pornographic’ material.
What’s going to happen tomorrow??
Edchin - August 10, 2009 at 11:35 pm
UMNO leaders are either reluctant or blinded by sheer arrogance to notice the fact that present day Malay mindset have evolved dramatically since the heydays of peasentry nationalism.Failure to rectify what they are up-against in a mild mannered way invites more dissidents . Most if not all Malays are conciously aware , amid feels secure as well as confident of the priveleges and rights enacted under article 153 are assured no matter what the circumstances or whichever coalition rules the country
Danildaud - August 11, 2009 at 2:29 am
Ilham,
From your writings, I would have guess your age is younger by a few years then me. I also guess that you surely have some sort of higher educational background and mix around. Thus, I try to understand your writing and read it with an open mind.
But until today, I could not understand the purpose of your writing except badmouthing DASI and belittle him as much as you can mostly from unconfirmed & unreliable source, already some old cases that is already proven by the court that he is not guilty. So, I would have guess now that you are actually cyber terrorist (on payroll) trying to distract
Thus, it is a pity that you keep on attacking DSAI, Kak Wan and others without actually discussing topics that are being forwarded by other commentator.
Thus, my question to you. What is the point that you raised such stupid accusation? Are you envy that you do not have such fortunate (bertuah). Or that you are not successful? Or that you do not have anything to do and keep on attacking DSAI (without even have a reasonable and sensible point)?
If my assumptions about you as above are not correct then the only other logical reason is that you are on the UMNO/BN payroll to hassle the pro/PR bloggers/ commentators. My advice, please find other job Ilham. This is not worth it – there are many other jobs outside there. Don’t waste your future career on this path.
p/s: And also your paymaster should find other employee since your attack is such lame and poor.
nazryan - August 11, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Hahaha, now we are getting msm in Din’s blog. Cheap shots…
Danil, u’r absolutely right about the change in the mindset of the Malays in the context of an urban/semi-urban setting.
Pas derives its strength from mostly rural constituencies but that has evolved when DAP gave the Chinese/Indians the light, so that they may trounce the BeEnders, especially in marginal seats. The same favor/fervor was repaid. PKR made a majority of opposition in parliament, also due to this.
The concerted push by bumno, is being played up seemingly by unthinking children within PR’s ranks.
The natural response for any entity facing mass extinction is to use any weapons or tools avialable and nothing is sacred nor sacrosanct anymore. The feudalistic thinking that requires reformation a’la KuLi, is impossible for them. Racism and fanaticism ensues.
There seems to be an epidemic of confusion within their ranks intially, but they seem to be more ‘directional’ now – so that while dear leader spouts the ’1Something’, deputy dear leader spouts ’1Melayu-Islam’ and Octokutty spouts ’1Nothing’. Division of ‘labor’ like this behooves our anti-establishment sentinels to be extra careful.
Menyalak-er - August 11, 2009 at 3:37 pm
I also guess that you surely have some sort of higher educational background ; nazryan
I don’t know from which higher education institution this idiot graduated from as he think the court is part of the ‘legislative”.
Here is his stupid statement;
Najib tidak mahu campur hal dia dengan badan “legislative”.
Hoi balik kampung tanan jagung la ilham
tean - August 11, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Baguslah kalau tak nak balik kampung ilham.
Cuba baca sikit mcm mana Syarikat Kuala Dimensi rompak duit rakyat berbillion. Hairan pula orang macam hang tak marah pada Dato Seri Tiong. Hang dok melalak marah kat DSAI tapi hang diam saja bila Dato Seri Tiong King Sin songlap berbillion duit rakyat.
Tahu dak Ilham, anak cucu hang pun kena bayar hutang yang Tiong sapu bersama sama kuncu kuncu dia dalam MCA.
Ilham Ilham…buka matala sikit hoi.

It was public knowledge that Sudirman was gay. I suppose Ilham didn’t know this since he’s clearly homophobic.
Mr Bean - August 11, 2009 at 8:28 pm
The last time I met Sudirman was in the men’s locker room at Clark Hatch in the mid-80s when Clark Hatch first opened at The Regent and only later moved to The Hilton. He wasn’t in any rush to ‘balik kampong’.
Mr Bean - August 11, 2009 at 8:32 pm
It is best to leave Ilham alone.
Mr Bean - August 11, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Ilham,
Hopefully you achieved your objective what ever it maybe. You should learn from dmh1876 in Dari Lensa ZI blog. At least he gave his own opinion on topic that matters, relevant and tidak diciduk dari mana2.
I guess the copy and paste mentality is very hard to resist from your schooling years.
p/s: Such a waste if we didn’t learn from all the otai in this forum.

Then the Patriot Act. Under this Act, detention is for 7 days. It is applicable only to aliens and not citizen. It is also applicable to terrorists. The AG then must charge the detained person or institute deportation proceedings. He could also sign a certificate to detain the person for 6 months. This 6 months can be extended indefinitely as long as the period does not exceed 6 months at any one time.
The AG then must submit a report to the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives and the Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate every 6 months on the detention
http://art-harun.blogspot.com/2009/08/isa-is-not-comparable-to-patriot-act.html
———————————————
Will somebody please correct Art Harun. Provisions of the U.S. Patriot Act referring to detention without charge for seven days etc do not apply just to aliens but to a class of people deemed ‘enemy combatants’ who may be U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens.
