Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s probe tactics bared
Victims talk of ‘mental, physical’ pressure
INQUIRER.net (The Philippines)
KUALA LUMPUR – Victims of torture by a government commission revealed the “mental and physical” pressure that they underwent following the death of an opposition member last week allegedly in the hands of the same group.
Tan Boon Hwa was forced to stand for four hours by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission that threatened to assault him repeatedly, according to Malaysian opposition members, which appeared in a report by Din Merican, a Malaysian-based independent news correspondent and blogger.
“They kept calling me stupid China man. They said that if I don’t ‘tell the truth’, they will take away my wife and there would be no one to care for the children. But I did not give in,” Tan said.
Ramon Navaratnam, an adviser to the MACC, grudgingly admitted that “no normal person can withstand the mental and physical pressure” of the MACC interrogation tactics and called for a review of the agency procedures. “Teoh’s death is tragic and unnecessary,” he said.
Navaratham referred to Teoh Beng Hock, 30, who was found dead on Thursday at the balcony of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission building in Shah Alam, the capital of Selangor state controlled by the People’s Alliance coalition of Anwar’s Justice Party, the Democratic Action Party and the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party.
Well-placed sources and officials close to the MACC said Teoh was “manhandled and threatened” by investigators during a 10-hour interrogation as part of a political conspiracy to bring down opposition leaders, led by Anwar Ibrahim, and to implicate them for alleged misuse of funds.
“When he refused to do so, the officers dragged him to a window on the 14-story building and threatened to throw him out,” the said the source who was not authorized to speak to media.
Teoh was to get married on the day his body was found. His fiancée is expecting their first baby and has vowed to raise the child as a symbol of her love for Teoh.
MACC officers claim that Teoh was not a suspect in any crime. But officers declined to answer why he was interrogated beginning late evening until the early hours of next day and that his lawyers were not allowed to be present.
The government pledged a thorough investigation on Teoh’s death but few were willing to believe in that assurance. “They are all the same, the police can investigate but how many suspects have died in police lockups and nothing has been done. It will be no different this time,” said Kesavan Munusamy, a 32-year old businessman.
Liew Chin Tong, an MP from DAP, said Teoh’s death has revealed “the most sinister elements of the National Front government.”
“In its attempt to implicate elected members of the opposition for corruption which would later pave the way for a coup d’ etat, the MACC has started killing our young.”
“It is now our obligation to see that Malaysia is freed from the National Front misrule and justice is restored in our beloved nation,” he said.
The truth is clearer from foreign eyes , as always

These guys have seen too many Hollywood movies and did not know what to expect. A struggling and panic stricken witness with sheer terror in his eyes, is all that is needed to make the difference.

They in turn panicked and held on to his pants which then tore and he went down head first.
Mr Bean - July 20, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Negligent homicide.
Mr Bean - July 20, 2009 at 11:21 pm
… and in the meantime, Captain Ahmad Shauki, the son of the MACC Chief, who was convicted of child pornography in an Adelaide court in Feb 2008, continue to be employed as a pilot in MAS, boleh kah?

‘stupid cina man’
What are they implying?
Are they implying that Malaysian laws made it legal for Malay racist enforcement personnels prejudiced towards non-Malays to carry out that prejudice at grotesque extreme .
Hence , send out signals that its not just the old-fashioned May 13th Malay/Chinese/Indian-hating anymore.
It is now policy!
Is that it?

They could have had him killed because they wanted to admit the statements he made to MACC into evidence. His statements are now not hearsay since he is dead.
Mr Bean - July 21, 2009 at 5:53 am
oooops hearsay but admissible in both civil and criminal trials over here in some states, as a result of the OJ Simpson murder trial
Mr Bean - July 21, 2009 at 6:10 am
He could be already dead on the 14th floor for a while before being carried pushed out of the window.
If he was still alive before he exited ( Whichever, pushed or jumped) from the 14th floor window, the area where Teoh’s body landed should be spilled with massive blood all over.
From the photo, I don’t see much blood around the body….my take, he was murdered much earlier, then thrown out the window.
The Police said he died around 9am but did not say before or after he landed on the 5th floor.
The forensic scientists should be able to determine the before or after theory.

Forget about 2020. We are indeed a 3rd world country run by thugs and goons.
Free Malaysia - July 21, 2009 at 10:22 am
Time to let the experts do their job. He probably died before he even hit the concrete floor. A pathologist should be able to determine that.
Mr Bean - July 21, 2009 at 10:52 am
Assume we know that some idiot at MACC murdered Teoh, what’s next?
Ghani Patail said Kugan was murdered in Police Station. Mana dia pembunuh? Tak ada siapa pun kena tangkap? Apa jadi? Lupakan saja.
The same story will be repeated in Teoh’s case? Linggam case? PKFZ case? Atlantuya?

The people will only accept 1Malaysia if there is sincerity. Right now, there is none.
Batu Ferringhi - July 21, 2009 at 12:51 pm
The Umno-controlled papers are spinning the story of TBH possibly being murdered by gangsters. Furthermore the police has determined that TBH fell out the window on the 14th floor where MACC is located. Does anyone from the public has free access to MACC premises? If not, then someone from MACC must had let them in……if the gangster theory is true. No matter how you look at it, TBH was murdered within the MACC premises and that makes MACC partly responsible if not fully.
Don't trust BN - July 21, 2009 at 2:30 pm
But I thought they said it was “sudden death”. So what’s the big hoo-hah?
They also said all the other cases also “sudden death”. So all of a sudden people conveniently died of “sudden death”, eh?
With allegations now surfacing on how people are interrogated at that f..king place, we all begin to understand what “sudden death” is.
Worst still these flers start accusing everyone else for politicizing the issue. Including the running dogs from the boongkang M_A – who else? And they let those f..kers from the 2 newspapers get away with it. This is not politicizing, eh?
OMG…if only the next GE is tomorrow!!
pat ling - July 21, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Police only start to seal off the MACC office for investigation after more than 2 days after the incident took place, why ? So that they could have more time to make evidence disappeared or sheer incompetence, i guess it is the former. i m no genius but common sense prevail.
CYC - July 21, 2009 at 4:23 pm
I read with some shock and dismay calls by the opposition and various quarters that they be allowed to see for themselves the place where the deceased was presumed to have been and believed to have fallen from. Over here, that would be classified a crime scene and immediately cordoned off to everybody except law enforcement personnel.
Instead not only were they not allowed (which is the right thing to do) but we have various personnel including MACC personnel walking all over perhaps removing evidence, tampering evidence and polluting what is a crime scene.
That will never happen here.

Our Beloved Tun M wrote a comedy of sorts ala shakesphere when he has no guts to address the basic law and order problem like Teoh or Kugan or others detained in ISA , OSA and other things that goes on in BolehLand. My reply to him in Bahasa Malaysia to him is below – even though not entirely relevant to this posting
Tun Dr Mahathir,
Pandangan Keseleruhan landskap Malaysia kini:
Negara kita ada 13 negeri and 1 wilayah persekutuan. Anihnya , bahagian barat malaysia barat umun nya and khusus nya Lembah Kelang telah menikmati kekayaan negara kita. Susah hendak kita nafikan.
Pendek nya Tun,
Banyak hajat NEP yang baik pun di goda and perkosa kan, banyak Wang Rakyat yang kerjaan telah membazir and tidak kena pada sasaran nya
Satu contoh yang mudah, Kalau kita buat polisi untuk memberi pertologan kewangan , pendidikan and biasiwa kepada semua di bawah takat RM 1500 sebulan tanpa kira kaum – akan kita saksi kan 6 melayu, 2 china , 1 india and 1 lain lain – ikut hitungan Tun sendiri mendapat bantuan , sekira dilaksana kan dengan betul and tidak mengira warna(color blind) , tapi bukan ini yang kita buat
53 tahun kita merdeka, Tun sendiri berhujah hendak melihat Rakyat berbilang bangsa mengelar diri mereka bangsa Malaysia. Tepuk dada tanya selera.
nswamy - July 21, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Tepuk dada tanya selera”.
Yep. Ketok kepala, garu teloq.
Mr Bean - July 21, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Din, the truth is MACC should be disbanded immediately and all its officers arrested and put in Sungei Buloh. These officers should be given the same interrogation treatment. In other countries, when an interrogation takes place, Video recording is done and when the interrogation completes, the person who is interrogated is given a copy of the video recording. This is how a professional body works. Is this done by our MACC? God only knows or maybe BN. Its a disgusting organisation.

Wow! Most of you guys here can be consultants to CSI. Start sending CV’s now.
MACC investigates reported corruption cases, for those not in the know…
Corruption, for those unaware, is the most difficult case to prove in court.
MACC will only act based on clear evidence.
You will not find lock-up or some torture room in MACC office, especially when it is located in a landmark / public building in shah alam with a mall at the bottom and shares the building with other tenants.
It is freely visited by members of the public and I can’t imagine Teo or some other “tortured & threatened to be thrown out of the window” individuals sharing the common lift with other members of the public on the way out.
No way MACC will do such a thing knowing the suspect/witness will have to walk thru public areas on their way out. I have no knowledge of a secret passage used solely by MACC to ferry such person in and out.
MACC investigations are technical as these need to be presented in court.
MACC personnel are technical too and usually professionals ie lawyers, accountants, surveyors, engineers which is. They’re not the large biceps nor the thick mustache type.
So basically those accusing MACC are still clueless of what actually happened.
What is clear some parties of the underworld linked to DAP is at risk and will benefit from Teo’s death. Now that’s a motive….
What benefit can SPRM get from Teo’s death? Lost of witness and case closed?
Anyway, Kajang councillor Tan Boon Wah was one of the last person to have seen him at around 6am at the building…
mickey - July 22, 2009 at 11:05 am
Well, how about this?
You could rule out sleep walking because a witness confirmed Teoh was alive and in control of his faculties at 6.00 in the morning. He did not sleep walk and found an opening and thinking it was the door out he somehow ‘went out through the door’.
Mr Bean - July 22, 2009 at 8:21 pm
LKS has hatched this theory about the ‘flying corpse’. This is worth investigating. I mean it is not everyday that you see corpses fly.
