MACC has some serious explanation to make for death of Selangor State Exco’s Aide
July 16, 2009
Comment:
The stooge and instrument of the UMNO-Barisan Nasional government, which we know as MACC, in particular MACC Selangor has some serious explanation to make for the death of Teoh Beng Hock, a 30-year old Selangor State Exco’s aide, this afternoon, and its continued persecution of Pakatan Rakyat politicians. The public also wants to know why UMNO and Barisan Nasional politicians who are blatantly corrupt and who abuse power like Khir Toyol and others in the Federal and state governments like Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak, and those UMNO and MCA politicos involved in the PKFZ scandal and other corrupt activities, and Malaysians who have admitted that they have bribed politicians and public officials for business contracts have not been investigated and/or charged.
In stead, we see civil servants like Dato Dr. Aziz (formerly of the Ministry of Rural Development) who was later acquitted, and Dato Mirza Taiyab Beg of Tourism Malaysia have been humiliated and are made to face charges of corruption when their UMNO ministers are left scot free. I have been told by some people that the MACC would not touch government ministers. Why is that? What is the use then of having an agency to fight corruption when all it does is to take on opposition politicians and civil servants and other small fries-- Din Merican
Selangor State Exco’s aide plunges to death from MACC HQ
The aide of a Selangor state executive councillor plunged to his death from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Selangor headquarters in Shah Alam. Teo Beng Hock’s body was found on the rooftop of a building next to the towering block which houses the MACC headquarters.
The 30-year-old former journalist was DAP exco Ean Yong Hian Wah’s political secretary. He was believed to have jumped from the 14th floor of the Tower Block where the MACC Selangor office is located early this afternoon.
Yesterday, Teo was taken to the MACC headquarters for questioning in relation to a probe concerning several Pakatan assemblypersons.
When the news of his death broke, Pakatan leaders, including Ean, rushed to the building. Other DAP leaders at the MACC headquarters are Ronnie Liu, Teng Chang Khim and Tony Pua. Both Liu and Teng, who were at building for more than an hour, confirmed that Teo had died.
Earlier, Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar told Malaysiakini that the case was being investigated. Speaking to reporters later, the police chief said the deceased was found clad in a black jacket, blue shirt and white pants.
Lawyer: He looked happy
MACC investigation division director Shukri Abdull (right) told reporters that Teo was released at 3.45am but the deceased did not go home and was seen loitering in the building.
According to him,Teo had wanted to rest for a while at the pantry. He was seen still sleeping there at 6am. “Nobody saw him after that until his body was found at around 1.30pm,” he said. He repeatedly stressed that Teo was merely a witness in the investigation and not being probed.
Asked how they discovered the body, Shukri said they were alerted when they heard someone scream. His lawyer M Manoharan, who accompanied Teo to the MACC office yesterday, said the deceased looked normal and showed no signs of being under stress.
“He was happy and looked composed. I had advised him how to handle the interrogation since I was not allowed in during questioning,” he said.
Manoharan, who is the Kota Alam Shah assemblyperson, last saw Teo at around 7p.m. As of 6p.m. this evening, Teo’s body was still on the roof top of the building.
Teo’s laptop seized yesterday
Ean’s office was raided by the MACC yesterday where officers confiscated a laptop belonging to Teo as well as a desktop computer.
The MACC also raided the office of Kampung Tunku state assemblyperson Lau Weng San yesterday.Apart from Ean and Lau, six other Pakatan elected representatives are also under investigation – Teresa Kok (Kinrara), Hannah Yeoh (Subang), Elizabeth Wong (Bukit Lanjan), Dr Cheah Wing Yin (Damansara Utama) and Edward Lee (Bukit Gasing).
The commission had earlier quizzed several people, including the personal aides of five assemblypersons – Ean, Lau, Kok, Wong and Yeoh.
Selangor state representatives are given RM500,000 each every year to fund community programmes in their respective constituencies. MACC has alleged that the funds have been abused by the elected representatives.
R Sivarasa, who is Subang parliamentarian, said that the death was under very suspicious circumstances. “At this point, we are holding MACC responsible until we get a better explanation.”
Meanwhile, Kok asked why MACC took Teo away for interrogation at 5.40pm yesterday and thus forcing him to stay in the building overnight. Pua wondered why Teo would want to stay back after he was released by his interrogators. “Anyone who is asked for statements would be told to leave after the procedure is over.”
He lamented that Teo’s lawyer, Manoharan, was not allowed to be present during the interrogation. Halimah Ali, a PAS exco in the Selangor government, also revealed that Teo had his car in the MACC building. “There is no reason for him not to go home.”
We can safely assume that this is not the last of pre-arranged deaths by suicide or misadventure.

Was it mere “interrogation” or “dehumanizing”?
B.H.Teo had no reason to die, he was to get married tomorrow. He was young, vital and brave.
Now he that he’s dead, long live Teo Beng Hock!!!
His spirit will now haunt his persecutors and that is not a jampi!

When Najib became the UMNO chief in Perak he plotted the downfall of Perak.
Then he replaced Muhammad Muhammad as the Selangor UMNO chief. And a plot to topple the Selangor state government was hatched. They tried to bring down the Selangor MB over the matter of cows and car; then they arrested Teresa Kok on Khir Toyo’s instigation. Now, the MACC, even before a police report has been made, was sent in to intimidate the Pakatan politicians in a heavy-handed manner. Not only were the DAP politicians being targetted but also the people who received the assistance.
This has become a new tactic of coercion by the BN goons. Anyone who is associated with the targetted victim – friends, lawyers and business associates – will be roughened up and intimidated. This insidious action was first started during Anwar’s 1st corruption-and-sodomy trial. Next, the lawyer, who was defending the Commercial crime division chief who was charged with corruption, was also being asked to submit his income statement and was man-handled [You can read this in RPK's blog]. Also the first few days of the MACC’s existence was also marked with the assault of one of the UMNO warlords from the opposite camp to admit his role in money politics.
This is sign that Najib wants to create a crisis and nail the Pakatan by any foul means. And he has the cooperation of certain Pakatan’s politicians to set the ball rolling. But unfortunately for him, the MACC has botched the job and committed a murder, and this has given a respite to Pakatan to put their house in order.
The MACC has now become a treacherous monster and a political hatchet outfit for Najib’s dirty jobs.

The situation is really getting deadly – Altan, Kugan, V.Paari’s sec, Teoh etc. Reminds one of the extrajudicial killings in Argentina, Chile etc. doesn’t it? Yes Bean, definitely a gomen ‘protection’ plan – intimidate and destroy.
The country is lurching from crises to crises – Catholics are outraged, Malaysian Indians are focused on a cow pasture, bro. Anwar is being re-sodomized, Chua the pornstar is being re-arraigned by his unmentionable party, Chua Jui Meng the ‘born again’ jumping ship to PKR and Manik Urai got massaged for all its worth!
But all in all, none beats the tragedy of BHTeoh – my profound condolences to his family and his bethrothed.

From 7 pm until 3.45 am. How many hours? He is merely a witness in the investigation and not being probed.
WHat say you Dr. Bean? Is that a form of torture?

He was interrogated!! Why , the need to interrogate witnesses??
And what do you know , the next thing he leaps of a building.
Houston , we have a problem!

The pointing game will now begin. The first salvo by the Anti Cow and Car Commission is to deny knowledge and pretend that it never happen at all. Then when hell breaks loose they will blame PR politicians for cooking up a story. This is an agency that has little to show in terms of professionalism but more in terms of carma (cari makan).

My wife and I have just returned from the site (MACC, Selangor) in Shah Alam where Teo Beng Hock died. Pakatan Rakyat supporters held a vigil in memory of our young man. His body was not removed from the place until 9.00 pm.
Three pathologists from the government side were doing the investigations and the family of the late Teo was given half an hour late in the day to find their own pathologist. Their lawyer, Gobind Singh Deo, MP, was not allowed to be with the brother of the deceased to witness the post mortem.
Strange dark forces (to quote my good friend Antares) including the Police are at work. I don’t think we will really know the truth behind the death of Teo. We have Altan, Kugan, and Teo, all dead under tragic circumstances. Najib has plenty to answer. Even in the worst of times under Mahathir, there was no political murder. After only 105 days into his administration someone under MACC custody died. MACC too must explain. I wonder what the Attorney-General, Gani Patail, will do. —Din Merican

The most corrupted agency is none other than the MACC if not why only the opposition. Those that are in UMNO who were investigated are dead wood which they want to get rid off. There is a link here between MACC Selangor Head and Toyol. Somewhere, please see what are the relationship of this two crows.

“This tragic incident is another reminder of the recklessness of supposedly public institutions like the MACC in pursuing the goals of their political masters,” Assemblywoman Elizabeth Wong
Recklessness in pursuing the goals of their political masters?? What is this woman talking about?
Is she saying the scope of responsibilities of investigative bodies includes guaranteeing the safety of every person who has been called to give a Sec. 112 statement under the CPC? Even when nobody has been charged with a crime? How stupid is that?
The implication is that the deceased has information detrimental to the prosecution’s case. What is it that the deceased knew that is so detrimental to their case that called for his untimely demise? If the prosecution needs your testimony to help put their case together, wouldn’t it be more than odd that they want to put you away for good?
Is this assemblywoman (previously the subject of an investigation for her sexual peccadilloes with an UMNO mole) suggesting that there are DAP moles within this investigative body working to suppress evidence. How warped, convoluted is the reasoning?
“She (Elizabeth Wong) said the incident has prompted her not to allow her staff to be questioned by the MACC unless accompanied by legal counsel, adding the police should also seal the office for investigations.”
Don’t be stupid. Being an assemblywoman does not equip you with such powers. Don’t let power go to your head. You are behaving like those BN politicians you see in Parliament. That is the problem with some of the Pakatan lawmakers today. Power has made them arrogant. They forget that they are there to serve the people and not themselves.
Interviewing possible witnesses by Investigating Officers or IOs, reducing witness statements into writing is a routine procedure laid down in the Criminal Procedure Act. It is part of the investigative process. You have a right to a lawyer only if you are under arrest. Ask the IOs if you are under arrest, if not then you are free to walk.
In some jurisdictions, refusing to cooperate with the police in their investigations is sufficient without more for them to charge you with obstruction of justice.

“From 7 pm until 3.45 am. How many hours? He is merely a witness in the investigation and not being probed.” tean
Apparently he was just a witness in the investigation. Not yet a witness for the prosecution. Nobody has been charged. Usually two IOs would sweet talk you for a while, playing bad cop and good cop, the latter hoping to gain your confidence before he sits down with his typewriter (in the old days it was the typewriter).
Maybe they were fishing for information. Maybe they threatened to prosecute him with crimes he never committed believing erroneously that he was privy to information they needed in a case they are building up. Maybe they went too far. That could have pushed him over the edge.
He did go over the edge and landed on the roof top of an adjacent building. You were seen talking to me, then you were found dead next to my house. There’s not much to go on.
We need answers. However much we curse, growl and stomp and pull our hair, those answers will not come from MACC.
It looks set to be just another case of misadventure. He was walking feeling very tired and tripped and fell out of the window to his death.
This is not the country that I left decades earlier. This is certainly not the country that I could proudly say I came from.

THE TANK - July 17, 2009 at 3:54 am
Mr Bean,
YOur attack on Elizabeth Wong is totally unjustified. You totally misconstrue what she said and twisted it.
“This tragic incident is another reminder of the recklessness of supposedly public institutions like the MACC in pursuing the goals of their political masters,” Assemblywoman Elizabeth Wong
Recklessness in pursuing the goals of their political masters?? What is this woman talking about?
=== it is plain simple English. The implication is that MACC is selectively investigating all Selangor state assembly people/MPs and not investigating UMNO/MCA politicians. It’s too obvious that their political masters are these very people. Is that so difficult to catch, Dr Bean????
Is she saying the scope of responsibilities of investigative bodies includes guaranteeing the safety of every person who has been called to give a Sec. 112 statement under the CPC? Even when nobody has been charged with a crime? How stupid is that?
= Only you seem to be implying this from what she said. Look in the mirror before you call someone stupid. Did she ever imply that???
The implication is that the deceased has information detrimental to the prosecution’s case. What is it that the deceased knew that is so detrimental to their case that called for his untimely demise? If the prosecution needs your testimony to help put their case together, wouldn’t it be more than odd that they want to put you away for good?
= You mean your own interpretation of the implication? How stupid can this be? What prosecution are you talking about??? LIke you said, no one has been charged yet. If deceased had information detrimental to MACC or their political masters, then he could have made a police report. No one is suggesting this. Only the great Dr Bean.
Is this assemblywoman (previously the subject of an investigation for her sexual peccadilloes with an UMNO mole) suggesting that there are DAP moles within this investigative body working to suppress evidence. How warped, convoluted is the reasoning?
=== Again, only Dr bEan’s active mind has concocted this. No one said it, no one implied it, no one suggested this. Your active imagination is worthy of your blog – on fiction. BTW, do you have your own blog??? I would love to read about all your interpretations and suggestions and suggested implications.
“She (Elizabeth Wong) said the incident has prompted her not to allow her staff to be questioned by the MACC unless accompanied by legal counsel, adding the police should also seal the office for investigations.”
== Clearly, Elizabeth is suggesting there is foul play in the death of deceased. Which is why she would prefer it that all her staff be accompanied by lawyers before meeting the MACC people. Makes sense.
= Again, you talk with so much prejudice in your words. She is concerned with the safety of her staff. It’s only common sense that people will distrust an authority that just had one of its interviewees dying in mysterious circumstances. It’s a personal attack at Elizabeth. Mr BEan, you totally have no credibility. and I don’t know why Din Merican entertains you so much.
= Everything can be routine until a death comes up in mysterious circumstances. When that happens, you have to come up with ways to minimize similar occurences in the future. Safeguards must be put in place. The law is not black and white and does allow adjustments under externuating circumstances. You write like a fresh law graduate.
In some jurisdictions, refusing to cooperate with the police in their investigations is sufficient without more for them to charge you with obstruction of justice.
= is this a relevant statement here??
yty - July 17, 2009 at 4:57 am
Mr Bean,
for your info, pls read jelas.info on this matter esp all those comments. perhaps, that might clear up the haze in your brains. You have been thinking of too many warped and convoluted plots lately. You have made very clearly your utter disrespect for Elizabeth Wong. Why bring in her relationship with that Malay ex??? sexual pecadilos? so, are you the few per cent of Malaysians who hold such old fashioned views? I am utterly surprised you are not in some rural kampong somewhere in Malaysia, bcos your thinking is exactly like some country bumpkin from there. Your prejudice and warped interpretation of her statement reflect your own warped mind. Mr Bean, you should be cast into the BIN and thrown off MACC building from the 1st floor. Don’t worry, it won’t be fatal cos you have the BIN to protect you.

Let’s face it, the existence of the MACC is solely to persecute people who are considered a threat to the BN, not the rakyat. Like the judiciary and the Police, they are shamelessly under the thumb of the BN. This is my personal perception and that of most Malaysians. Just look at their past record. I’m sure the military junta in Myamar would love to copy the BN successful suppressive system of democracy.

My heartfelt deepest condolences to the family of the late Teoh Beng Hock.
Teoh’s untimely death should not go in vain. Let this be a lesson to the Pakatan Rakyat component parties – PKR, PAS and DAP to stop bickering with each other. His death should make everyone understand that they cannot afford to stand divided any more.
UMNO will continuously conspire to break up all these parties with the help of MCA, MIC and Gerakan. They will continuously plot for the downfall of the PR government. They will instigate and bully and even murder to get back to total power.
How do you go about defending yourself from such a cruel, unjust and evil power? Only by standing united. The only way to combat them will be by working for the welfare of the people with the highest integrity and wisdom.
Purge yourself PR of your traitors and those who stab you from behind.
UNITY IS THE ONLY SOLUTION!

Looking at the blame game now, i guess the authorities’ conclusion to this case would be: “Misadventure due to Gravity.”
The ‘cacat’ but hardworking (overtime claims) officers who saw Teoh last, will also claim that a toyol was seen lurking in the corridors of macc offices and must have tripped him up, using the formula: F=ma.
We may not get to the ‘bottom’ of this, but i suggest that the pathologists involved look for anorectal injuries!
Menyalak-er - July 17, 2009 at 12:59 pm
I don’t blame anyone especially the MACC, or their division in Shah Alam. The office is within a shopping mall, maybe some lawyer offices, a mamak restaurant, or even Mr Toyol’s office!!! etc.
The only one to be blame is the current MB of Selangor. What did he do upon receiving this news??? Did he has tea with the Sultan !!! He arrived almost at 9 p.m,well groomed and he was there as if there was ribbon cutting ceremony!!! together with his goons. He also made a statement that was less than helpful, saying that he did not suspect foul play.
I am totally disappointed. Khalid can use and abuse his power and the party leadership is apparently unwilling to censure and remove him. Why was the body still lying there till 9 pm?? He could have instructed the Selangor Police chief and the state government or private pathologists to go to the location asap, dropped whatsoever he was doing and attended to this pressing matter. He showed no respect for the dead young man’s bereaved family and soon to be wife. I am not going to vote PR if they are going to put Menteri Besars and CMs that are asinine. My prayer goes to his fiancee and the Teoh family. May he rest in peace.

Mr Bean – July 17, 2009 at 7:00 am
=== There is such a thing called “Cover-up”. The police are very good at it. and I believe the MACC is catching up fast. One of the reasons why the body was still lying there a few hours after he “apparently” jumped was to dispel the coming accusations that they covered up the circumstances of the death. They could then say there was no cover-up becos the body was there all the time and they didn’t tamper with it!!!
