Anwar Ibrahim: Ikhtibar dari Sejarah Melayu
March 15, 2009
Learn from Sejarah Melayu, says Anwar. Sembah Derhaka, not Derhaka, in Perak. Not Hang Tuah, not Hang Jebat, but Bendahara Paduka DiRaja Tun Perak. Enjoy this clip and hope we learn from history or we are damned to repeat it, first in Perak and where next? —Din Merican

Bro. Din,
I have to state again that I cannot agree with DSAI on his idea to revert to Bahasa Malayu for my children. I hope DSAI could understand the issue as presented by Tun Dr, Mahathir.
It is not that we don’t like Bahasa but I am of the view that English is the only language for my children to compete in this globalised world.
I just wonder if DSAI would dare to make the same statement if he is campaigning to multiracial in Petaling Jaya or Bangsar.

Tean,
That’s the game and the game plan among the Malays is who would better protect the Malay language. For as long as they play this zero-sum game with the country’s national language, we will continue to see the consequences as our students and future leaders lose their control of an international language like English. Americans today are taking a deep interest in the study and use of Mandarin. Why is that so??
We should stop politicising language and education.

Yes, Bean, the rich parents in China also sending their children to study English abroad. And here we have nationalist wanted our children to jadi katak bawah tempurung.

Ireland has been a favourite destination for foreign students who want to learn English as a second language. Most of these students come from as far as China, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia as well as many from Spain, France and Italy just to study English !
And the Ireland has benefited tremendously from this venture, not only in terms of revenue but she is also exporting Irish culture as well as establishing special links with these students who may one day be the future corporate citizens within their own countries.
It is therefore mind boggling that our government has refused to see the universal benefit of the English language !
