Pakatan Rakyat’s Wahid is the right choice for P-36 Kuala Terengganu, come January 17, 2009
Does it really matter if Wan Farid is Badawi’s man or Najib’s choice or Badawi-Najib candidate for P-36 Kuala Terengganu? The reality is that he is an UMNO-BN man. He carries with him the baggage associated with the Badawi-Najib clique.
If Kuala Terengganu voters know–and they certainly do– UMNO-BN’s track record which is characterised by misuse of Terengganu’s oil royalties (the Monsoon Cup, Islam Hadhari theme park and Crystal Mosque, for example), corruption and abuse of power, and mismanagement of our national economy, they will vote for the Pakatan Rakyat candidate , Wahid, as he is the right choice to represent them in Parliament after January 17, 2009. —Din Merican

| BN candidate not Pak Lah’s man, says Najib |
| January 10, 2009 |
| The Barisan Nasional candidate for the Jan 17 Kuala Terengganu by-election is not Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s man as alleged by certain quarters.
Clearing the air on this today, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the candidate Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh was picked based on a collective decision.
“Why would we push aside a local man and a deputy minister? He holds an LLB,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama. Najib said he had to explain because many quarters made various assumptions regarding Wan Farid’s selection.”That is why I need to explain; because there are all sorts of assumptions in analytical pieces (in the media). This cannot go on, and our candidate has nothing do with Abdullah, me or (Terengganu Menteri Besar) Ahmad (Said),” he said. BN has learnt its lesson Nonetheless, he said, Wan Farid’s candidacy had to be connected to something – and that was BN’s role in handling national and state policies.
He also said BN was always committed to making changes including for the people’s well-being and comfort. The party had learnt its lesson from the 12th general election in March that it should listen to the people’s voices and do what they hoped it should do, he said. According to him, BN always made good its promises unlike the opposition who knew how to talk but failed to carry it through. |
“Some say Wan Farid is Abdullah’s man… he is not anybody’s man because the prime minister and I together chose him.
Therefore, he added, it was important for BN to ensure Wan Farid gets elected as the people’s representative for the parliamentary constituency.
