Haris Ibrahim reports from KT (No.2)
January 7, 2009
Haris Ibrahim in Kuala Terengganu reports:
DAP hosted a Chinese dinner last night and very kindly extended an invitation to the Barisan Rakyat blogger team.
600-strong crowd
The near 99 percent Chinese diners had an array of excellent speakers to prime them on the numerous reasons why they should not only vote for Pakatan, but also go out and take the same message to friends and relatives.
YB Janice
YB Leong
YB Liew
YB Ronnie
RPK
YB Tian Chua
YB Teresa
And of course, the man of the moment, Pakatan candidate Wahid, was there, humour and all. Strikes you as the kind of person that is easy to like immediately.
As he came in well after all the other speakers, it was good that he did not get into the same issues that other speakers had touched on. He just sort of bantered with the diners, giving them an opportunity to see a very likeable person.
RPK was powerful. He drove the point home that the Chinese had settled in Terengganu for more than 200 years. Well before UMNO and Dr. M were conceived. Enough, then, of the race politics that haspagued our nation for so long. Time to dump UMNO and BN into the South China Sea, he urged. You can imagine the ovation that RPK received.
Tian Chua, I thought, made a very important observation and one that I felt went down well with the audience.
What BN calls the bickering between the three parties in Pakatan, the bickering that BN claims hints at the impending collapse of Pakatan, in fact, discloses a healthy democratic process that prevails in Pakatan : the ability to articulate a disagreement with an equal partner.
This is something that we hardly ever saw in BN before 8th March last year and, of late, some in BN are trying to be seen to be doing, albeit rather tentatively.
Remember Najib’s ‘we are an Islamic state’ stance last year, and the total silence from the other BN component leaders to this irresponsible claim, with the exception of Dompok? See how UMNO has brushed off calls by PPP and Gerakan to amend / repeal the ISA? There are no equal partners in BN. Just one big bully and a bunch of ‘yes’ men.
Pakatan component parties may be seen as quarelling but in reality this is a healthy process in a democracy.Yes, democracy is alive in Pakatan.
Tian Chua also reminded those in the hall that this by-election was more than just about getting a new MP for Kuala Terengganu. It was about the people in this constituency continuing the trend of change that has started to sweep through the country. Their vote would not just decide the fate and the future of their fellow constituents, but that of every fellow Malaysian.
Wahid, understandably, could not stay long, but before leaving the dinner hall, he made a very sincere effort to get up close and personal with those in the audience.

Before we left the hall, RPK, too, took time out to shake hands and exchange thoughts with most of the 600 people at the dinner. In the course of this, he discovered that some of them were known to him from the days when he and Marina resided in Terengganu.

Way to go! Brave souls!
Make KT that first important step that will lead the way to Putrajaya!
Save the country, save the people of Malaysia from the last 30 years of lies, threats, abuses and corruption.
Robert Teh - January 7, 2009 at 11:07 am
We pray for one more victory on our road to real democracy in Malaysia. You folks are our trail-blazers. Our hearts are with you.

Malaysians especially Non Muslims should look more on MACRO picture rather than “continue to be cheated by BN”. With BN around, there is no way for Equality, No way for Democracy. Compare PAS with UMNO, PAS is very clean, very sincere, and have never “cheat” the Rakyat. How about UMNO? Why worry about “HUDUD”, this MAY BE one of the good way to tackle the “Poor Security” issues in Malaysia. Only way for Better, Fair Malaysia is to Vote out UMNO, there is no second way available.
__________
Dr. Tey, the hudud thing is not an issue. We need good and people centered government, not one that takes us all for granted and mismanages our economy and our public finances. We can be very much better than we as a country are today. Kuala Terengganu is yet another step en route to Putrajaya.—Din Merican
Dr. Tey - January 7, 2009 at 12:29 pm
EXCELLENT EFFORT!

Dear Bro,
We will continue to pray for a better Malaysia for all Malaysians and specifically for the KTians to vote in the PAS candidate to continue the process of finally electing in a PR govt in the 13th GE.
Thank you too for updating us from the ground.

Good picture and must be good dinner too. When you look at MAWE, no one can say no to him, he has the kind of attraction that people would want to make him as their representative in parliament.
So, come 17 Jan, vote for PAS and send a strong message to BN and UMNO that we don’t trust Najib to be Malaysia next Prime Minister!!!

I support the change even though not voting in KT. Beautiful moments

I pray to God every day until election day that KT voter will vote for PR candidate……..and DUMP the Unrecycleable UMNO candidate our into “LAUT CHINA SELATAN”.
________
Allentcw,
Like the people in Permatang Pauh did in August, 2008 their compatriots in Kuala Trengganu will reject the UMNO-BN candidate who is a Badawi crony and a close business associate of Patrick Badawi and Khairy Jamaluddin. Najib will also a liability. —Din Merican

To all peace loving Malaysian Muslims, let’s perform the Solat Hajat, either individually or in congregation tomorrow night, to seek Allah’s blessings for a smooth victory for the PAS/PR candidate, YB Abd Wahid Embong. Allahu Akbar!!
hanisma - January 7, 2009 at 5:47 pm
Love to be there last night…and share that lovely moment. Just remember that so many Malaysian like me outside, waiting for our victory to Putrajaya. And Abdul Wahid is my dear brother. Allahuakbar.

Hope you guys have comfortable shoes in your husting; I am with you, my kakis, every step of the way, even though I’m miles away.

There comes a time,
when we need a certain vote,
when Malaysians must come together as ONE!
There are people lying,
And it’s time to lend a hand to PAS
The greatest gift of all
We can’t go on,
Pretending day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of
God’s great big family
And the people’s power,
you know is all we need.

If you notice, there are two elements glaringly missing from the UMNO/BN’s psyche. One, is sense of shame. You can strip them naked in the streets and they can still walk around poker faced. The other, is compunction. They can fool you, rob you, jail you, kill you (or even bomb you)without feeling any remorse. Simply said, they are respecters of no law. They are your servants only when election is around the corner. Once declared winners you can rest assured they’ll make you their servants until the next election.
A wise man, they say, will not get bitten by a snake from the same hole more than once. We have had enough of this for more than half a century. So make this KT an opportunity to knock some sense into their heads and bring them down to size. Don’t miss it!

dear toaknaybear,
Tears flowed from your eyes when you see pictures of the candidate hugging those of other races. My tears flow reading your message and feeling your heart. Damn it …. I miss you, brother.
I miss Zaini, Nyet, Azmi, Khir and all my teman sekugiran (band boys), I miss Kamal, Roslan and all my teman sepasukan (hoki), I miss so many of you so much and I need to forgive the goverment for taking so many more of my soulmates away by holding them in some “elite” sekolah berasrama penuh and depriving me of the most wonderful friendship that could have blossomed. They were supposed to be my teman sesekolah, teman seperjuangan and definately sehati and sejiwa.
You think they are serious about Sekolah Wawasan when they have and are still systematically destroying us big time?
Chinese new year is coming. Do visit us and don’t ever ask what we put in our food or drinks because we WILL and definately know how to take care of you.
hugs…. brother and thank you for knowing that I, this cina tongsan misses you too.
Let us all try again, for a change!
Things may be tough, there will be missteps, but change we surely must.
To all Pakatan Rakyat leaders and people, this is ALL we can and must simply be – Teman Sepakat Membawa Berkat.

Brother, you are right.
We had one heck of a band and hockey team those days because we had each other.
Never underestimate what Malaysia can truly be.
