When all things fail, there is THE ISA, says Zorro Unmasked.
Friday, September 12, 2008
Raja Petra Kamaruddin is detained under ISA at an undisclosed location. Please come to Kelana Jaya Stadium 8 p.m. September 15, 2008 to show solidarity for RPK’. Show your support for this blogger giant and web-master of www.malaysia-today. net, who took on the establishment in the name of Justice, Freedom and Democracy.
When Anwar was sent to goal in Sungai Buloh by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad in 1998, he launched the Free Anwar Campaign. Now, it is time that we start a Free Raja Petra Movement.
This September 15 meet will hopefully result in a nation wide campaign to Free Raja Petra and the not to be forgotten others who are now under ISA detention. I also appeal to Amnesty International and Journalists Without Borders, and other Human Rights Organisations around the world for their support and cooperation.
My Fellow Malaysians, we cannot be indifferent anymore. But in showing our concern, let us keep the peace and deny the present Badawi government, which is under siege of their own making, the chance to declare a state of emergency in order to save itself. Let us do whatever we can for Mdm Marina Petra and her children as they once again have to go through the ordeal.—Din Merican
The Zorro says:
A distraught Sarah (Pete’s youngest daughter) called to say that the police are in the house to arrest her Dad. Marina came on the line to confirm this. She said that they are arresting him under the ISA. Haris Ibrahim is currently in Pete’s house. As this go to post, the police have already taken Pete away. Stay around for the latest developments.
+++++
Allow me to quote again from the man who crafted the ISA,the late Reginald H Hicklings:
“I could not imagine then that the time would come when the power of detention, carefully and deliberately interlocked with Article 149 of the Constitution, would be used against political opponents, welfare workers and others dedicated to non-violent, peaceful activities.”
and
“Organised violence” was the key to the preamble of the ISA and that I had drafted to detain communist insurgents without trial, but in later years, a lot of people were being arrested who had nothing to do with organised violence (communist insurgencies) at all.”
+++++
Popular Opposition Leader, the late Tan Chee Khoon said about the ISA:
“This infernal and heinous instrument has been enacted by the Alliance Government at a time when the emergency was supposed to be over. Then it promptly proceeds to embody all the provisions of the Emergency Regulations which during the Emergency had to be re-enacted every year, but now it is written into the statute book ad infinitum…”
And what about this one:
Prior to becoming Prime Minister, Mahathir had also adhered to a critical view of the ISA. In 1966, when Mahathir spoke out in support of the Internal Security (Amendment) Bill 1966 as a backbencher, he stated that “no one in his right senses like[s] the ISA. It is, in fact, a negation of all the principles of democracy.”
After becoming Prime Minister however the Tun had little if any hesitation using the law to suppress what he termed racialism but was seen by some as a move against his political opponents, the most notable of events being the infamous Operasi Lalang in 1987. But Najib was left scot-free and he was the most guilty.
I will want to find out WHO signed the order to detain RPK because:
Prime Minister of Malaysia, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, went on the record in 1988 to state:
“If we want to save Malaysia and Umno, Dr Mahathir (then Prime Minister) must be removed. He uses draconian laws such as the Internal Security Act to silence his critics.”
The year before, he had also stated:
“Laws such as the Internal Security Act have no place in modern Malaysia. It is a draconian and barbaric law.”
YOU SAID THAT SIR, NOT US.
WILL YOUR GRANDCHILDREN BE PROUD OF YOU NOW?

RPK, ISA And The Rest Of Us
Malaysiakini reports that RPK has been detained by the police under the ISA. At the time of publication, the RPK was still at his house with police officers.
The news has spread fast. With it are concerns that a wider 1987 type crackdown is going to happen or that even worse, there is going to be chaos and racial violence.
We must remain calm. Reactionary behaviour and fear mongering is not going to make things any more sensible or easier. Things will unfold as they have to.
The Government must also do its part and explain clearly how RPK is a threat to national security and why he has been detained. He had presented himself everytime he was asked to at police stations and in court. He has been charged, has not attempted to flee the jurisdiction and has indicated his desire to defend himself in court. Access to Malaysia Today has been permitted. And though four police reports have recently been lodged against him by agencies linked to the Government, a consideration of those police reports in the bigger picture would reveal the unreasonableness of his being detained on the basis of what has been alleged in those reports. The Government must make the basis of its decision clear and why it is RPK cannot be tried in an open court.
And for the rest of us, let us stand united and firm in our belief in a better Malaysia.

How low can they go. Total injustice and this will be the last straw on the Rakyat’s back. Stand all ye Rakyat and be counted. Stand tall with YM RPK and we will win. We need DSAI at Putrajaya and LKS and Tok Guru NA to call upon the will of the Rakyat to stand with solidarity.
Our YM RPK a Towering Malaysian and a GIANT amongst the RAKYAT. We need the rakyat, in agreement with one of the commentators at MT, to stomr HEAVAN with PRAYERS.

Who signed the ISA order – Home Minister? Defence Minister or Prime Minister? So Raja Petra Kamaruddin is a national security threat and sure to destruct public order, what about Ahmad Ismail of Penang Umno Bukit Bendera who made racist slurs against Chinese citizens of Malaysia?
This umno-led government must GO!

This is the type of people we have in the government. They can manage the economy, couldn’t give a damn about civil liberty, justice etc. Please Pakatan Rakyat, take over the government. I have lost hope in the current government. Mahathir I hope you are happy now. Likewise all those responsbile today’s act I hope you too are happy. I don’t want to do this but I have no alternative. I CURSE THEM ALL. Sorry Din, I know I should be more civilised than that but I can’t. For sure, I will not fall into their trap to allow them to declare emergency or start a race riot. I want PK to taken over peacefully.

Never have I seen another’mahatma ghandi’ in the making, this time coming from a Malay and a Muslim.
How can any Muslim stand to watch ‘the so called Muslims from UMNO’ implement un-muslim actions to a Muslim during Ramadhan?
THIS IS NOT ISLAMIC, THIS IS MUNAFIK !!!!
awangkassim - September 12, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Beware and be calm..the UMNO Malays are at it again….creating racial tensions to pit Malays against Chinese/Indians.Will not be surprised, UMNO gangsters aggressively planning to incite and then watch the riots from ‘level 4′.
MALAYSIAN (not malays), DONT BE DUPED !!!!
awangkassim - September 12, 2008 at 12:20 pm
I am surprised they did not act against RPK earlier. Others were detained for much less valid reason.
Jong,
The Act allows the government to interpret anything it sees fit as a “threat to national security” merely by citing it as such.
A string of court cases since has shown that the courts were loath to intervene against the use of this executive power – unfettered though it was then except for the process of judicial review. The Act was amended in the mid 80s and did away with judicial review of the Minister’s decision.
No legal process exists that would allow us to challenge the decision to detain RPK. Writ of habeas corpus? That too has proven ineffective to secure the release of the ISA detainee.
The only means available to us is by way of extra-legal, extra-judicial, extra-constitutional means.
Mr Bean - September 12, 2008 at 12:29 pm
This is a government that is Hell bent in using all powers available to it to ensure its survival. That should have been clear to all of us for a while now. So are we prepared to act now that our fear has been realised?
Malaysians are a very docile lot and are so easily cowed by the first display of force. It is time we change. It is time we take it to the next level.
Mr Bean - September 12, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Oh my God!!! What horror is this! During the month of Ramadan! Dont they have a heart! Lets pray for Marina and the kids. May God bless RPK and his family, There is always this NATURAL LAW OF JUSTICE!!!
gandhi - September 12, 2008 at 12:44 pm
They cannot haul everybody into jail! They cannot even haul opposition leaders, political activists etc into jail. The arbitrariness of their detention would be obvious for the whole world to see.
Hence my call earlier to the military brass, the police not to allow themselves to be used like pawns in a power game. In times like this when the UMNO led government has lost all moral legitimacy to rule, their traditional subservience to civilian authority may have to be abandoned to protect our federal constitution.
Mr Bean - September 12, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Hello bro RPK, my heart sang when i read the MT.
Awangkassim well written:
“Never have I seen another’mahatma ghandi’ in the making, this time coming from a Malay and a Muslim”. It is true what you have written about RPK.

One option left is force a new general election so that we can eradicate all these nonsense forever. The current government has to go as they are incapable of managing fairly and equitably.
We need a new Malaysia where we can regain our lost pride.

I totally agree with you !
As a Muslim we should address ourselves as a Muslim.
However, if u really want-Lah, then address yourself as a Muslim-Malay not Malay-Muslim.
“Sekiranya kamu seorang MUSLIM;
Beza-KAN AGAMA dan BANGSA. Seorang Muslim ada peluang masuk Syurga, Kalau seorang Melayu tidak tentu lagi kecuali dia itu adalah seorang Muslim.”

I am disgusted with this total injustice, more barbaric than the barbarians UMNO-led government, they may look civilized but in fact they’re just a bunch of ignorant Keris-wielding racist, barbaric breed of provocateurs, ‘buncit’ with ‘wang rakyat’ & armed with C-4s. With these creatures running our government, It will be totally like the movie, Planet of the Apes.
Abolish ISA, annihilate BN!

I just couldn’t hold my tears back! Just had my pre-dawn meal and while waiting for my subuh prayer, I’m at the computer and another person, Teresa Kok had been arrested under ISA. I regard her as ‘an iron’ lady who fights for justice and the draconian law has put her in its mouth. I just have no words to say and am really disappointed, disgusted and full of hatred with our present rulers. In this holy month of Ramadhan, I guess Allah is testing us, the Muslims as well as the non-Muslims- the peace loving people of Malaysia, on our patience and submittance to him. So, it is my utmost hope that all of us, true Malaysians, just remain patient and calm for I believe there is ‘hikmah’ in whatever challenges He puts forward to us. Let us pray that all the ISA detainees and their families be guided by the Almighty, and the new dawn will be with them and us very soon, Insya’Allah.
