Albar or Alblurr?

Hamid Albar the greatest national security threat

By Lim Kit Siang, Member of Parliament (www.litkitsiang.com)

Datuk Seri Syed Albar is a major security threat if the Home Minister is so gullible as to launch a massive three-day 1,600-personnel police operation to lock down Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley causing great financial losses and inconveniencing hundreds of thousands of people based on “rubbish” intelligence about a non-existent high-level Pakatan Rakyat leadership meeting, two speeches, two blogs and two SMS.

Hamid had promised Parliament on Tuesday to retract his allegation that DAP Secretary-General and Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, DAP National Vice Chairman and MP for Kepong, Dr. Tan Seng Giaw and I had attended a top leadership meeting of Pakatan Rakyat at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat headquarters on July 9 to plot a mass demonstration in or at Parliament last Monday to justify the deployment of 1,600 police personnel to create a three-day gridlock of the Federal capital and the Klang Valley.

Why is Hamid so conspicuously silent about his promise in Parliament in the past three days?

Is he still checking on whether he had been taken for a ride by his dishonest informers who had concocted such tall tale about a fictitious meeting of top Pakatan Rakyat leaders on July 9, purportedly attended by Guan Eng, Seng Giaw and myself – when it is just a pack of lies?

Hamid said yesterday that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not worry about giving his DNA samples if he were interested to seek the truth behind the sodomy allegations against him.

Anwar has said that he has no faith in the system as he is concerned about the fabrication of DNA test results.

If there is a national opinion poll, I believe the majority of Malaysians is behind Anwar in having grave doubts about the credibility and integrity of the institutions of government, particularly those headed by Hamid.

Hamid’s own conduct has given ammunition not only to justify Anwar’s lack of faith in the integrity of the system of police investigations and administration of justice, but also public skepticism that government institutions, whether the police, the judiciary or the Home Ministry could be fair, independent, impartial and professional in the handling of the latest sodomy allegation against Anwar.

If a Home Minister, the Numero Uno (No. 1 man) in charge of the Police force in the country, can so blatantly and without shame and impunity, purvey a lie about a non-existent top leadership meeting of Pakatan Rakyat on July 9 purportedly attended by Guan Eng, Seng Giaw and I to plot a non-existent demonstration in Parliament on July 14, using it as an excuse to launch a massive three-day police operation to lock down Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley, who could ever trust in the credibility and integrity of government institutions?

Hamid should stop advising Anwar or any Malaysian to trust in the integrity of national institutions, organs and agencies until and unless he is prepared to set the example of being a Home Minister who understands the meaning of honesty, credibility, impartiality and integrity.

Hamid had been doubly offensive when he had said that he wanted to check on our alibis to establish that the three DAP leaders were not present at the so-called July 9 Pakatan Rakyat leadership meeting.

It is not for Guan Eng, Seng Giaw and I to prove our alibis but for Hamid to prove that there was indeed a top Pakatan Rakyat leadership meeting on July 9 which was attended by the three of us.

Hamid should stop his double standards of applying the principle that Pakatan Rakyat leaders are guilty until proven innocent, while for Barisan Nasional the principle to be applied is that they are innocent unless proven guilty.

This was why I had asked in Parliament on Wednesday why Hamid had not launched police actions against the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and other Cabinet Ministers as there were so many blogs and SMS making serious allegations against them – if two speeches, two blogs and two SMS were sufficient to justify the launching of a three-day 1,600-personnel massive police operation to lock down Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley.

When is Hamid going to own up that the so-called July 9 top Pakatan Rakyat leadership meeting attended by Guan Eng, Seng Giaw and I is a pure figment of imagination and accept responsibility for the totally unnecessary and unjustified three-day inconveniencing of hundreds of thousands of people in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley by getting Cabinet approval to pay compensation to all those who suffered financial losses, whether major or minor?

  1. Datuk Seri Syed Albar has been acting tough of late. From a boisterous diplomat, he has now become a compulsive and irresponsible Home Affairs Minister with a personal vendetta against Anwar Ibrahim after he was forced to give up his quest to be UMNO Youth Leader many years ago.

We can all be disappointed with his arrogance and overzealousness in the exercise of his ministerial power. But it is important to remember that he has been given a free rein because of the hands-off stance of the Prime Minister in all matters of state.

  2. This Pak Arab is a real threat not because he is smart but because he is stupid. Lee Kwan Yew hated his late father’s guts. It runs in the family.

Tok cik, a friend told me that he is from Hadramuat, not Saudi Arabia, Dubai or Qatar. His late father, Syed Jaafar Albar was once nicknamed “Singa UMNO”. Lee Kuan Yew sued him and appeal was made to Malaysian public at that time to contribute to a fund to pay his legal fees and costs (including damages to LKY). But Syed Jaafar was a nice man and a good UMNO leader of the Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Razak eras. Syed Hamid rose to prominence during the rule of Dr. Mahathir with a different brand of politics.—Din Merican

  3. isnt he the same guy who cause us to lose a whole island to our neighbour? in return, we get some piece of rocks.
what a great Minister he is, no?

Nothing can be more disconcerting than reading about a group of otherwise focused veteran politicians being duped into playing the game. In the military world of ‘point man’, ‘decoys’ and ‘diversions’, this maneuver by the country’s Minister in charge of public order, would no doubt in my mind qualify as a diversion.

We are we so determined to expose the lie and the Home Minister as a liar that we missed asking him why he is lying? Why have we so psyched ourselves up even driving us into a frenzy with the need to expose the ‘unprofessional conduct’ of our police officers each time the public has been inconvenienced, political leaders and political activists arrested, when the public would be better off with information about the conspiracy to derail the opposition effort at exposing corruption and the continuing abuse of power?

Apparently, Ramon Navaratnam of the Centre for Public Policy Studies with his piece on the traffic jam caused by the Home Minister who should know better, is one in the long list of coverts to this school of thought.

  6. ooops ‘converts’

  7. Isn’t this Albar Damnit looking after newspaper permits? Keadilan is supposed to have a permit for a Daily. What’s happening to that? And what’s Harakah’s “Daily” status?

RPK has nice juicy stories on the Damnit fellow. Good enough for another sizzling SD. But Damnit doesn’t deserve it. There are bigger sharks to fry! :)

Din badly needs some 5th Floor guys to piss down on the 4th floor people!

  8. This Home Minister has the cheek to demand he should be approached in a ‘nicer way’ if MPs want to get his apology for the big mess he had caused in KL/Selangor on 14 July 2008. See how arrogant, he has forgotten who is paying his big fat salary.

Those MPs are elected representatives of the people and the Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar must realise that unnecessary amount of money has been spent because of his failed “intelligence report”! Since he is so thick skinned as not to apologise, we demand that the PM give him the sack!

  9. Is it wrong for leaders from different political parties to meet? If so then the Home Monster oops Minister must also question the meeting when BN leaders meet. The Home Monster ooops there i go again must also call out the police and troop to ensure no unwanted incident happen. In the past BN have also organized demonstration especially led by the Sil KJ in front of the US Embassy.

  10. “See how arrogant, he has forgotten who is paying his big fat salary.” Jong

This is the flaw in the thinking under the BN led government. Have you wondered why they call themselves ‘government servants’ rather than
‘public servants’ or ‘public officials’? So too are the government MPs.

In the post-BN government I would like to see this thinking reversed – and their senior officers be made to attend ‘rehab’ and introduced to the concept of ‘civil service neutrality’. The civil service being an appendage of the BN political machinery is atrocious!

Ministers must be constantly reminded, and for their own good, that they are but elected reprsentatives of the people who elect them. If they don’t perform then expect to lose the confidence of those who slog hard to find the money to put them where they are today!

Shrek will have to take a boat trip across huge ponds and brave the winds!
