Thank You for Your Compassion and Generosity

By Din Merican

It is tough on Puan Marina Lee Abdullah-Petra and her children when Raja Petra Kamarudin goes to gaol in Sungei Buloh for refusing bail. This is because he felt that the whole episode leading to his incarceration was a set-up (see video by malaysiakini.tv) by certain elements in UMNO who were looking for a pretext to “get” him.

Those of us who are his friends and associates in the blogger community know that he is a rather uncompromising man on issues of principle. He wrote with such passion and conviction, without fear or favour. Yet few people know that Raja Petra comes from a proud aristocratic family in Selangor. His grandfather is the late Tun Raja Uda, former Governor of Penang and a distinguished civil servant with ties to the Selangor Royal Family.

His Royal Highness The Sultan of Selangor is, in fact, Raja Petra’s cousin. On that score alone, I would have expected that our master blogger would be treated with the usual courtesy and respect, befitting his status as a member of a very distinguished Royal Family. Not so, I am afraid.

The Police’s treatment of him, on the other hand, is crass and raises serious concerns about proper manners and common courtesy. After all, he is innocent unless proven guilty. So we hope that while in Sungei Buloh he will be treated with dignity. He is a decent citizen who believes in the dignity of man, freedom and justice, someone who happens not to agree with certain leaders in the present government.

I am pleased —and so is the Raja Petra family—that Malaysians and sympathisers abroad responded with compassion and generosity to our hurriedly launched campaign for Raja Petra. The local component of the donation (of RM1.00 per person) totalled RM24,500. That means 24,500 Malaysians of goodwill at very short notice responded to our campaign. More people were forthcoming but Puan Marina decided to end the campaign.

For all that, I thank you for helping out at one of Raja Petra’s most trying times. Although he has been through many challenges including being an ISA alumnus in the past, he is proud to know that we Malaysians are supportive of his efforts to promote democracy, justice and free media.

Fellow Malaysians, you have shown that we are a caring people and as Malaysians we are ready for change. We have very low tolerance for encroachment of our fundamental liberties. There is, therefore, room for optimism, although a lot of hard work lies ahead, as we together try to rebuild our much maligned society.

katataknak, thanks on behalf of Puan Marina. Raja Petra has made his point and should be persuaded to get out of gaol. Let us hope the bail is paid today for his release.—Din Merican

Hey Din, I just have one thing to say.

Lato Seli Najeep Nazak, you’re dead meat.

Thank you.

I am a avid fan of RPK and have just started to read his blog since before our general election of 08.03.08. I am a Malaysian based in London since 1979 and wish to balik pulang. Do send my regards to RPK and Kak Marina. I am proud to be associated with such an outstanding Malaysian who dares to stand for what is right and to fight the wrong and evil doers.

I guess the truth hurts. When people cannot handle or face the truth they will try to shut out the truth sayers. Jailing RPK is not going to work. The cat is already out of the bag.
_________
shrek, you are right but then this Badawi government is capable of doing the most stupid things.—Din Merican

is rpk’s safety guaranteed in sg buloh? i’ve watched a lot of movies about the lawlessness in prison and i’m kind of worry…

My prayers for you RPK.

Why is the Royalty still keeping quiet about this blatant treatment of RPK? Can the Royalty not fight for the right of its own kind who is innocent? Shouldn’t the Agong also jump as a savior of the innocents when the Govt of the Day is clearly abusing their powers? Or is the Royalties merely for ceremonial duties only?
_________
Caribenar, let us be fair to the Royals. I am sure they are concerned not only for Raja Petra but also for their subjects, but have to be careful about getting involved in the administration of justice. Our Rulers, however, have the means to whisper in the ears of power and other means to express their displeasure when the time is appropriate.—Din Merican

Ah Din Merican, you too are a hero in voicing your concern for justice as all should but hadn’t a voice.

Yes, RPK has real blue blood (a few drops as he puts it, so humble) and as he’d said in one of his ceramahs, if anybody has the RIGHT to wear the Kris, it is his type and not some wannabe champion of the Malays.

There’s been a lot of those wannabe Kris wearers in the past 50 years. As the religious would have it, these are the wannabe saviors or false prophets of doom.

RPK will go down in Malaysian history a Hero. I rather like to call him Hang Petra. A modern day Towering Malaysian. He had said that late Naza chief was a towering Malay if he hadn’t been crooked but I say Towering means PRINCIPLE not material wealth. Capitalism bred a lot of those after the latter, a dime a dozen. Those that hunger over principle and morality are the TRUE TOWERS of Society, as in MT and RPK, the True Twin Towers of Malaysia.

PDRM diperalatkan lagi ! DEATH BEFORE DISHONOUR !

I would be happy if Marina don’t stop the fund collection,

use the money to Post RPK pictures on Billboard at every streets or junctions in the States controlled by PR ’s Governement.

PR governmenet to post pictures of RPK at every State Government Dept. controlled by PR.

Caribenar,

The royalties, unfortunately, are as conniving as the Umnoputras. To them what matter most is their “periok nasi”. So jumping on the bandwagon for a free meal and a free ride come easy. It does not matter if one of their own is facing the firing squad so long as their bellies and coffers are filled. Period.

RPK is a brave and decent man. Just hope that they won’t harm him in jail. But I think RPK would be able to do more for Altantuya if he post bail and continue the “battle” outside jail. It would also be less stressful for Mrs RPK.
________
rakyat, I hope he can be persuaded to leave jail today (May 7) because we can never what desperate political leaders can do to save themselves. Raja Petra said he has “evidence” and that should be enough to scare would be abusers of power and their ilk. Thanks for your response.—Din Merican

You are right prof.

Its about time, these people realise that we, the rakyat, has had enough and we’re not gonna take their crap anymore.

Yesterday episod, I’m sure, would have shaken these people.

I must admit, Rm24,500 in less than 12 hrs…Live on Makkal Sakthi!!!

When a government is afraid of only one person whose only ‘weapon’ are words, then what is the use of purchasing guns, battleships, warplanes, submarines and c4?

Puan Marina, If you or the family needs any help, please do not hesitate to drop me a note to vindev@hotmail.com

Keep your chin up, RPK’s family is my family too.

God Bless

One swallow does not a summer make, dear Tok Cik. People are people and indeed members of royalty too as they are also human. Perhaps under the circumstances in ages past the malaysian royalty had been found wanting but we must uphold them as they are the authority that God has placed over our nation. Our motto should always be for God, King and Country.
Lately there had been members of royal households who had spoken out of turn against fairness and goodness. but we must not judge as all of us live in glasshouses. of course there have been exemplary members of royal households such as the Raja Muda of Perak.
And our greatest respect must be accorded to YAM RPK who is walking the talk which not many of us can embark on when push comes to shove.
So, be at peace with yourself and everyone. For we all answer ultimately to our Maker and in this there is no escape. Some people in authority lord over the rakyat like there is no tomorrow. indeed for them, there is no tomorrow because GOD is not mocked!
shalom.

I quote RPK…

“Is it seditious to influence people against corrupt leaders? There is nothing seditious,” he said. “Do you think I do not have evidence?”

You don’t screw around with a man of RPK’s stature. Do you think that RPK would have written that infamous article if he DID NOT have any evidence/proof. RPK is a very meticulious person. He is a man of honour. May god bless RPK and his family.
________
baronshah, you are right. Raja Petra is very thorough and has credible sources of information (he calls them “deep throats” ;) ) and good lawyers. He would not write if he has no evidence to substantiate his views. Who is lying? You and I know the answer!!—Din Merican

RPK point out the truth from reports already printed by MSM medias.

This make them restless, sleepless & confused.

It is indeed urgent to form the next new Federal Government now to put things in it correct perspective.

Syabas. Barisan Rakyat.

smallworld,
many Malaysians would rather stick with the so-called “tried and tested” BN, although they know that this party is corrupt and incompetent. That is why Badawi and gang are still in power today. Sometimes, there is such a thing as “tyranny of the majority”, especially when the majority in the Malaysian outback is without Internet and subjected to spins from the government controlled radio, tv and mainstream media.

There is also something wrong with our electoral process when leaders of Badawi’s calibre and character are chosen to lead our nation. As a result, we get a supporting cast of incompetent people who are chosen to be in the corridors of power to help make policies because they know to “butter” the boss, not because they are good.

Mediocrity, as it is often said, breeds more mediocrity. This is a natural process because a mediocre leader will not want competent and smart people hovering over his shoulder. —Din Merican

rpk is really something. he to me is in a small way, islam malaysia’s version of christianity’s st. paul. whereas st. paul is willing to be prosecuted in the defence of jesus christ, rpk too is willing to be persecuted in the defence of truth and justice. what a brave and principled royalty. GOD bless you rpk!

The way the authority handles this issue is not going to benefit them, and people at large begin to see that there is a need to change the present government. If changing doesn’t happen that soon, people are now keeping it in their chest. Its the way the leaders behave and the way their look at the whole Malaysian aspiration is a mist.Petty

see me at http://kadayanjournal.livejournal.com

I trust those with an anti-RPK agenda currently in the corridors of power can see the kind of populist support this man has. A man of uncompromising principle is rare, that he exists in Malaysia is rarer still; that he is in jail in Malaysia is however not surprising, for where else can he be in a country where noble principles went out of fashion over two decades ago. In its place came greed, corruption, arrogance, the patronage system and the demise of fair-mindedness and meritocracy. Justice for RPK!!

Pls continue with the $$$ campaign , RPK needs it for legal fees , no ?
________
Raja Petra’s wishes and that of Marina must be respected. At the appropriate time, we can always re-launch it ,this time to collect $$$ for his legal defence expenses. Thanks, Chen Rong Lin

RM534.8 million commission for Scorpene submarines - why Perimekar?

Commission paid was under the guise of support and coordination services
by Richard Teo

The pathetic explanation given by the Defence Ministry regarding the purchase of the Sukhoi SU30MKM fighter and Scorpene submarines raises more suspicions than answers.

The public is not concerned with the laborious explanation regarding the negotiations carried out by the Defence Ministry neither are they interested in the approval levels and the checks by the technical and price committee.

What the tax paying public is interested is why was the contract awarded to Perimekar to prepare support and coordination services for six years. The contract value was 114.96 mil euros(RM534.8 mil) to be paid in stages according to the level of progress of the project.

What kind of support and coordination services that Perimekar can provide that the Defence Ministry is not capable of providing?

Altantuya, a multi-lingual translator working for Abdul Razak Baginda, is believed to have known “too much” about multi-billion Euro weapon deals, especially Malaysian government’s purchase of nuclear submarines from France in which Abdul Razak Baginda negotiated in between. Altantuya was last seen in front of Abdul Razak Baginda’s house, being pushed into a car and driven away. Her entrance records at the Malaysian immigration computer database were found deleted for unknown reason after she died.
Deputy Premier Najib Abdul Razak’s press secretary, Sariffuddm Tengku Ahmad, issued a statement on May 29 that neither the Malaysian deputy prime minister nor his wife, Rosmah Mansor, had anything to do with the murder of the Mongolian translator.

In the statement, the press secretary threatened legal action if allegations in the press and elsewhere of Najib’s involvement in the case continued. The statement also denied that Najib had anything to do with erasing the victim’s immigration records, or that he had ever met her.

repeat them, Jong, if you can. If not, write again. I do not delete anything because all the comments I get on this blog are good, although they may not support my position or point of view. That is okay because that is what discourse should be.—Din Merican

Bro Din;

Is it possible for us to Visit Our Beloved Hero. If possible, please guide us on the way to visit him.

Our Hearts bleed for him. Even my mom (74 years) is highly concerned & my little boy( 12 ) is worried for him.

Please take great care & may you ( RPK & all of the other Unsung Heroes ) be blessed & protected always.

Love & Prayers from All of Us

Bryan,

A vigil is being planned for Raja Petra who is now at Sungei Buloh Prison by some civil society groups. If I get more information, I will post it on this blog so you and my fellow Malaysians can be there to give our blogmaster the support and concern that he needs to sustain him. —Din Merican

[...] Thank You for Your Compassion and Generosity [...]

I think the government have shot themselves in the foot.UMNO will suffer the consequence of this action.

They have fired the first salvo to frighten other bloggers but it is not likely to work because many are doing what they do with strong conviction and do not fear incarceration.
__________
Hantu Laut, you are right. The days of scaring Malaysians are over. Malaysians that is those who identify themselves with Raja Petra’s struggle, today can think for themselves. Unlike my generation who are more compliant, they expect very high ethical standards from ther leaders.—Din Merican

My thoughts and prayers go to RPK, Marina and his family. I hope something can be done to convince RPK to agree bail to avoid the risks that can befall him in jail. To Marina…we are all behind you during this trying times. Do not hesitate to tell us if you need any assistance at all.

Thanks, chee kong for your concern and prayers.—-Din Merican

From Jong:

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A prominent Malaysian blogger was charged Tuesday with sedition for allegedly implying the deputy prime minister was involved in the sensational killing of a young Mongolian woman.”
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/05/06/malaysia.blogger.ap/index.html

This reflects badly on the Badawi government, definitely not good for Malaysia’s international image. One wonders if the government is serious to solve the murder, or all out to protect those in the corridors of power allegedly has vested interests and links to the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, said to have been murdered to silence her.

The manner and direction in which this murder trial is taking with not much breakthru for whatever reasons, followed by the arrest of Raja Petra Kamaruddin(RPK) on “sedition charge” to prevent further exposure? ..looks politically motivated and is suspect!

Now the question is WHO is protecting WHO?
